su application provide an option in sittings to unroot, i used it.

ok, to answer your original question, no you don't need to relock.
what about the command "fastboot erase cache" before and after flashing boot.img and recovery?

next, did you disable any apps?. the ota checks the system integrity, the reason for unrooting, and if there are any changes the ota will fail. so re-enable any apps you may have turned off.
perhaps do a factory reset from recovery if the above does not work, or delete the ota from the the sdcard and try to download it again as it could be a bad download

no bro, i do not disable any apps, i did full wipe including sdcard, i tried factory reset from recovery and redowloaded, and it is not working.

Manually check system/bin and system/xbin folders to make sure there are no su files left. Just in case it hasn't been unrooted correctly. And get an app from play store to check for root

done all that, even flashed a clean stock nandroid backup, not working also.

i also tried to use the newly flashed recovery [stock] to wipe the phone, gives red triangle, and downloaded anothe file for the correct version and it is the same.

hey guys, i am still trying to get this to work, any help will be appreciated.

finally managed to get this done, it looks like my stock rom had somthing wrong so i used a clean nandroid backup from @arabmed and thats it.

Is it the 3.16.415.4 that arabmed uploaded here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140

yes, make sure your CID is j_15 and your current ROM is the last one.

get the outcome of
fastboot getvar version-main
compare that number with the nandroid, they have to be the same !

It is wise to save the OTA.zip somwhere before you proceed the updating process. The stock boot & recovery img inside the firmware.zip inside the OTA.zip will helps you later on if the updating process is stuck in between.
And importantly, make a nandroid backup for the newly updated software version in case you need to revert to stock and there is no RUU available.
Now you just have to flash stock recovery

As you said, you already have a CWM recovery, then you need a stock recovery flashed first. The next question is which stock recovery ? The one that listed on that thread is 1.56 version which is meant for hboot 1.16. So check what is you hboot now ? If it is still 1.16, then you can use that recovery. If it is 1.17, you need a 1.58 or 2.09 recovery.

thank you.
There is none for 2.09.720.1 available in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748684
So the best bet that I can suggest is save the OTA.zip as I mentioned earlier and use the recovery that comes with the OTA.
Or you can try 2.09.707.1 that I posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30809441&postcount=11 but not so sure whether it will work or not but it should.

[Q] Update to 3.14.161.27 (4.1.1)

Hi there,
i dont know what to do...
I have a german htc one x from Vodafone.
I tried TWRP and CWM Recovery to install the new Update to 3.14.161.27 but i always get "Error 7" and the installation aborts.
System info:
Adroid: 4.0.4
Software: 2.17.161.4
CID: VODAP102
HBOOT: 1.12.0000
Recovery: TWRP 5.8.4.0
Can you help me and tell me how to fix my Problem.
King regards
Peter
What do you mean, are you on stock rom and tried to do the official update with the custom recovery ?
If you have 100% stock rom, stock boot.img and stock recovery you can update
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
Flash this one and try again. Keep the bootloader unlocked .... Its no problem
I tried your Recovery but it didnt worked..
I have stock rom, stock recovery (now) and i think i have stock boot.img.
if my boot.img is the prob how can i change it?
i used the Hasoon200 tool to root my phone nothing else was done
very big thanks for your help
If you are really sure you have the nandroid backup of your original stock rom the stock boot.img should be inside that nandroid backup folder !
If you made any changes to the stock rom like deleting system apps or any other bloatware then the update will also fail

[Q] No OS installed on HTC ONE M8! Plz HELP!

Hi everyone! I installed the stock google edition on my HTC ONE M8 last night using adb command. Then I get in TWRP recovery try to restore my previous backup that I made using TWRP. Then I got an "restore failed". So, I get in wipe, but I chose the advanced wipe instead of factory reset because my old defy+ is this. I'm so stupid.... I deleted the system. Now I have no OS installed on my phone. I googled earlier that people were saying that using ADB sideload will work. I get in recovery and pressed the sideload but the progress bar just keep going for like 8 hours straight !!! What should I do?
Also, my phone has unlocked boot loader and S-OFF. I rooted my phone before I did the wipe.

It'll only show when booted into TWRP (so flash that in fastboot if you have to), and that's when you push the file

Okay. When I tried to use TWRP install the zip file. It told me failed. Is that wrong or should I use adb?
Your backup probably failed because it didn't backup correctly. It's happened to me a couple of times wirh TWRP. You should always check your backup works before deleting anything. There are stock backups available on this forum.
The RUU has to be flashed in fastboot using the fastboot commands, so if you're trying to flash it in TWRP it will fail. To flash the RUU, you have to:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <nameofzip>.zip
First time WILL fail, so then run the same command again - fastboot flash zip <nameofzip>.zip
fastboot reboot
This is ONLY for the RUU ZIP file and not a normal TWRP-flashable ZIP

If you did want sense all you need to do is restore a stock backup and then flash firmware.
If you restore gpe ruu, just download a stock sense backup, the copy and paste the extracted folder it in the twrp folder and restore, then flash the firmware_splash.zip in RUU mode

nbd. You should be able to use htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader Or you can go the s-off way(which I recommend) use the sunshine app for s-off(if your device is capable of s-off now) an if it is sunshine will s-off an unlock for you an then do what I said above post. Those r really your only 2 choices.
FYI you will need to be on either of the latest two twrp versions to install su binaries properly if you have issues. Sunshine wouldn't work for me but its really easy to unlock bootloader and install twrp and su
If i'm s-off already I should be able to run the latest RUU to get me up to date with the firmware and then flash TWRP and then a rom correct?

You could do that yes. Or just flash the firmware zip an then flash twrp an flash updated ROM an you r up to date....if you run ruu it will wipe your device so backup your stuff to a PC or external an then proceed with ruu an flashing twrp then ROM. After you flash twrp I recommend strongly to make a backup of stock before you wipe to flash new ROM.

I guess i'm confused because of my Hboot being on 3.19. I've been wondering if there is a need to run a higher Hboot that probably came out with the new OTA, but the VenonRom 4.2 has been running with no problems. So i guess what I am really trying to achieve is upgrading HBoot and Radio.

Yes you should be able to fastboot flash in ruu mode the firmware zip. If it ask to reflush immediately just re flash rt then an it will start the process. You know how to flash in ruu mode or ?

Is there a need to return to a Stock Rom? I am currently on Viper.

Can't load my rooted htc one m8 after OTA update

I had rooted htc one m8 with twrp. To be able to install OTA update I have flashed 4.20.531.4. It successfully loaded so I started update. However after reboot it did not go further than htc one sign on white screen. After that I tried following actions without any progress: flash twrp back, delete supersu, factory reset from both stock image and twrp, install previous builds. I can get to bootloader, but my pc does not see it throw windows explorer nor from htc sync manger. I'm stock and don't know what else can I do. Did I actually bricked my phone?

If the screen still comes on, no.
Did you install stock recovery before trying to OTA?
Yes I have installed stocked recovery from t mobile. I changed my cid to super cid. Could that course me a problem? And is there a possibility for me to use nandroid recovery?

Some folks have said SuperCID interferes with OTA; others contradict this. So I'm not sure.

Do you mean restore a nandroid backup?
Yes, but it sounds like you already restored a stock 4.20.531.4 ROM, so I don't see how a nandroid backup would make a difference.
Are you trying to issue fastboot commands while in bootloader-fastboot mode? And no response?
