Hi everyone! I installed the stock google edition on my HTC ONE M8 last night using adb command. Then I get in TWRP recovery try to restore my previous backup that I made using TWRP. Then I got an "restore failed". So, I get in wipe, but I chose the advanced wipe instead of factory reset because my old defy+ is this. I'm so stupid.... I deleted the system. Now I have no OS installed on my phone. I googled earlier that people were saying that using ADB sideload will work. I get in recovery and pressed the sideload but the progress bar just keep going for like 8 hours straight !!! What should I do?
Also, my phone has unlocked boot loader and S-OFF. I rooted my phone before I did the wipe.
Use adb push <nameofrom>.zip /sdcard and then flash that

Okay. But when I connect my phone to my PC. It makes the notification sound but did not recognize it. And when I typed in "adb devices" there is no devices attached.
It'll only show when booted into TWRP (so flash that in fastboot if you have to), and that's when you push the file

I see now. Does it matter which rom I use? I will try that when I get home. Also, how to use the adb sideload. I stuck in process for about 8hours since last night I pressed the button.
When you flashed the GPe ROM was it just the ROM or the full RUU?

I believe it was RUU.
If it was the RUU then you'll have to flash the firmware package in post 2 of the RUU thread before flashing a Sense-based ROM but if you want the GPe ROM back just flash the RUU again as per the original thread...

Okay. When I tried to use TWRP install the zip file. It told me failed. Is that wrong or should I use adb?
Your backup probably failed because it didn't backup correctly. It's happened to me a couple of times wirh TWRP. You should always check your backup works before deleting anything. There are stock backups available on this forum.
The RUU has to be flashed in fastboot using the fastboot commands, so if you're trying to flash it in TWRP it will fail. To flash the RUU, you have to:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <nameofzip>.zip
First time WILL fail, so then run the same command again - fastboot flash zip <nameofzip>.zip
fastboot reboot
This is ONLY for the RUU ZIP file and not a normal TWRP-flashable ZIP

If you did want sense all you need to do is restore a stock backup and then flash firmware.
If you restore gpe ruu, just download a stock sense backup, the copy and paste the extracted folder it in the twrp folder and restore, then flash the firmware_splash.zip in RUU mode

You have to flash the FW package first THEN restore/flash a Sense ROM as TWRP won't mount the phone properly as the partitions are borked

Hello everyone.
I just rooted my phone using hasson2000 all in one tool kit, and everything works great.
I am in the UK, with network called Three. (currently waiting for the JB update)
I am currently running android 4.0.4 with sense 4.1.
My question to you folks is will be able to receive OTA updates?
I have heard having a unlocked boot loader prevents the phone from receiving OTA updates.... is this true ?
And will re-locking the bootloader mean I will be able to download OTA update?
I know this is a lot to ask, but as this is my first time I am still what you might call me a noob.
Any help would me much appreciated.
Regards,
Shaazzaarr.
If you did NOT make any changes to the rom, like deleting bloatware and system apps. Then you are still able to fully update the phone. Bootloader can stay unlocked and root too. Don't worry about that.
What you need is
1: stock rom (root is no problem)
2: stock boot.img
3: stock recovery

Hey thanks for the reply.
I'm using the stock rom, haven't touched anything. But i am not using the stock recovery - currently using twrp.
Will i still be able to receive ota updates with a custom recovery? or do I have to do the whole ruu thing?
No you can check and receive ota's you are just not able to actually update, you need to flash back the stock recovery to update. That's all

Say I decide to update my phone, can I just flash the stock factory recovery?
And does flashing stock recovery mean I lose super su and root previlages?
Hey, I appreciate all the help.
Thanks.
No you only lose the SU when you officially update the phone. Flashing back the stock recovery will not change the rom or root !

Shall I just flash it as I flashed the twrp recovery?
will this get rid of twrp recovery?

Yeah if you rename my file to

Then copy it to the fastboot folder on the pc, put the phone in fastboot usb mode and flash with commands
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Fastboot files as you wish

But isn't the tool capable of flashing a provided recovery ( like the stock i gave you ) ?
I never use tools
Place the files in a folder like this
C:\fastboot\*fastboot and adb files from my link*
From there you can run the command in a dosprompt so its looks like this
C:\fastboot\fastboot erase cache
And put the phone in bootloader menu before you run the command, hold the power button and the volume down button together until it restarts to the bootloader (you should see there the text *fastboot usb*)
Then you can flash ....

you will need to relock your bootloader and have more than 30% battery.

Lock the bootloader

Keep the phone in fastboot usb mode and run the RUU WITH admin rights (right click the ruu to choose it)

No you need the full 3.14.401.31ruu instead of the ota. The 3.14.401.27 will not work because that one contains the 1.36 hboot and you are on the 1.39 hboot, downgrade is impossible
Are u on a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery , then get your cid
Fastboot oem readcid
and download your matching nandroid here

That's the closest to stock you can get !
Hi,
Yes I am on unlocked bootloader with custom recovery
I've downloaded the file stock-nandroid-3.14.401.31.tar.bz2
I've managed to display the file contents
boot.emmc.win
boot.emmc.win.md5
data.ext3.win
data.ext3.win.md5
system.ext4.win
system.ext4.win.md5
would i be correct in saying i extract the boot.emmc.win from the file and then flash it
restore the nandroid from within twrp
flash boot-3.14.401.img
relock bootloader
would this then be suitable to send off to htc for repair?

thanks - i've installed CWM via fastboot and when attempt to restore get a md5 error
trying to get adb working on my machine so perform the md5sum check but always reports no devices - fastboot is fine
What i meant was that you can't restore a twrp backup with cwm at all, maybe there is a workaround but i don't know it, flash the twrp back and check in the backup collection thread if there is info about the twrp folders
Twrp backups are at /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/[device serial]/[backup name]/

Thank you cmlusco. Very greatful.
So 1) Download Ru 2.10.605.1
2) Go through the prompts
3) take OTA 4.4.2 (KitKat)
At this point, what does the Fastboot Flash Recovery, and Flash Superused thru recovery do?
Thank you very much!
Yes, and those roots the phone again. It flashes a custom recovery like twrp, so that u can flash superuser, roms, mods, and do backups. And the second flashes superuser, which well gives you superuser rights to modify files on the phone, use root apps, etc..

Yeah just do the ruu and you will be stock unlocked s-off JB. Then you can take the KK ota and all future ota's.

After downloading 2 different RUU's I can't find any Exe Executable files after unzipping.. What am I doing wrong?
You dont unzip them and there is no exe. You flash the zip as it is using fastboot. You need adb and fastboot + drivers installed on your pc. Place the zip in the same folder as adb.exe and fastboot.exe. Then open a cmd prompt on your pc so that the path is the same as where the files are. Then reboot the phone to the bootloader. In the cmd prompt type
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
The phone will go to a black screen, then type
Code:
fastboot flash zip name_of_file.zip
It may fail the first time with a message about flushing, this is normal. Just run the second cmd again
Code:
fastboot flash zip name_of_file.zip

Your Rom can be named whatever you want as long as you write the name the same in the command and Idk if there is an automatic way like that, I doubt it.
This cant be done with roms, only with ruu's and firmware images. You would need a usb-otg cable, a fat32 formated flash drive, and the correct name would be PN07IMG.zip

You can get the ruu's at the bottom of this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46506621
You can direct flash thru hboot as i explained earlier, or use

You do not sideload the zip to the phone, but put it on your pc in the same folder as fastboot.exe.

hmm thank you so much. and for some reason encrypted ruu doesn't work? but isn't that like how stock comes from the factory? I would like it to be factory stock to the max. then im gunna just debloat it.
For encrypted to work you must relock your bootloader. Either way you are getting the exact same thing. Encrypted / decrypted refer to the flashable file it self, not the files it contains or how they are put on the phone. Once you do the ruu and take the ota, you will be compleet stock other than being unlocked and s-off.

The easiest way for someone who doesn't want to take the time to learn how things work would be to download this Nougat RUU
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=241133
To flash RUU:
Rename the file to 2PS6IMG.zip
Place on Ex SD CARD
boot to download mode
Press vol up to flash.
RUU will erase internal storage. Once RUU has flashed boot your phone and take the OTA to OREO. After your phone has taken the OTA flash the latest twrp then flash leedroid Oreo ROM.
The reason I suggest this way instead of flashing firmware is because your going to have to wipe data anyway and by flashing an RUU you have a clean start.

Awesome okay, so I've booted in RUU mode however on the command prompt when I try to flash I'm met with target reported max download size of 157920000, invalid sparse file format at header magic. Can you advise?
Again thanks for the help
Edit: Screen grab of the error I'm met with https://imgur.com/a/WtP5wsq

You can't flash it with twrp. You can use htc_fastboot and flash from RUU mode.

Thank you for your help!
If anyone wants to know what I did to get back to stock so I could download Oreo
Downloaded Fastboot/ADB(Use this guide) https://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
Enabled USB debugging on the phone
Download HTC_Fastboot (Google it)
Download the Zip yldlj posted (Only if you are the same CID as me, the check this go onto the app store and find CID checker and then look on XDA for appropriate zip)
Put the download zip into the same folder as ADB/HTC_Fastboot/Fastboot folder. Rename it ota.zip
In the folder where you've extracted the ADB/Fastboot/ hold Ctrl Shift Right click open command window here
Connect your phone via USB
Set your phone onto download mode
From there I used the command htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once loaded into RUU Mode use the command htc_fastboot flash zip ota.zip
Once that was complete I was back to stock Android N which then enables me to update to Oreo
BANG
Fixed
Thank you everyone for your help. If you get stuck I'll try my best to help you

1: you need the ruu that matches your main version OS which can be found in the download mode
2: if you are on leedroid oreo means you have a oreo firmware and in that case you can not "just" flash a nougat ruu. Check the guides section, there is a downgrade dedicated thread with all the needed information
