Okay, so here's the story. Fed up with my One V and needed to upgrade. Found a faulty One X on ebay, bought it for £110 or so thinking I could fix it. I couldn't. Rooting didn't help, was a hardware issue. Came on here and apparently only option is to send it back. Turns out the phone is still under warranty (well, if it wasn't rooted). Reflash to stock, send it to HTC (no proof of purchase!) and today I received it back! Good as new, and they even chucked in a free pair of headphones because it took them so long! So yeah, HTC rock.
Only issue is it's locked to a network because the ebay seller was a moron and listed it wrong/incorrectly. I tried 2 unlocking sites already but no luck, anyone have a link to one that they've used that worked? Ideally I'd like to do it via internet but I guess I'll take it to a shop and see if they can if its required.
Glad to hear that someone (else than myself) has good experience with the HTC Support!

As far as I know, it doesn't. On some mobile phones you can pretty easily network unlock your device when having root acces (by looking for some kind of code in a file that's in your root folder), but rooting doesn't do this automatically.
What's your carrier? From what I have read here on xda, if I'm not wrong, orange and Vodafone have changed the unlock codes and the codes from internet don't work. I'm on tmobike and I unlocked my phone to any network from online site without any problem.

To what network is your phone locked and will let you know for sure if it can be unlocked by code or not. As an alternative one x now can be unlock by cable ,so probably some unlock shops can do that for you also

Just received my desire from Devicewire, not on contract but sim free version. I noticed that there was no HTC seal on the bottom of the box, does this mean I have been given a returned phone? I also noticed there is a virgin media widget? Also homepage on the browser is virgin media?
Apart from a tiny bubble in the glass (bottom left, you can hardly notice it) and a back cover that doesn't fit snug, everything else is fine.
My concern is that I will have problems when upgrading the firmware due to some virgin media connection? For example will I only be able to upgrade the firmware with VM firmware?
if you look around on this site you'll see that the general consensus is that due to stock shortages, HTC shipped some phones that were meant to be locked by Virgin, but in fact are still unlocked phones. I don't have one myself, but you shouldn't have any issues with it
that being said, I'd be a bit off-put by that, couldn't stand looking at a branding if I didn't buy it that way in the first place. I mean, the phones are usually knocked down in price due to branding and contract deals..
I'd send it back and demand an unbranded one, but you may have to wait.

oh yeah, the seal...
sounds to me like someone opened your box for one reason it another, I'd find out why...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I got a completely unlocked unbraded one from superetrader.co.uk and it didn't have a seal on, but the seal was inside the box ready to be used. So don't worry about not having a seal
mine was also unbranded, etc... I had a seal on the box AS WELL as inside the box.
maybe just confusion in the HTC packing plant at the moment ...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
thanks guys for the info. It looks like they just didnt apply a seal at the factory, maybe they were destined for a carrier who adds some doc into the box and then applies their own seal.
I have one of the phones with Virgin branding, too, also from devicewire. I emailed them about it and they assured me it came direct from HTC themselves.
So I emailed HTC and they said it was a firmware bug, where using a sim on the t-mobile network, as virgin is, produces this branding. they assured me the phone is fully sim free and won't have any trouble being updated. I posted the email in the thread about the April 7th phones. i'll dig it up when I'm next on my pc.
I'm assuming you're on t-mobile?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Arrhhh, very interesting. Thanks for the heads up on that. I have used devicewire many times and never had a problem with them, so I thought it was a bit unusual for them.
Mine came without a seal aswell. The seal was in the box unused though.
yes I'm on T-Mobile

In case you hadn't seen it yet, here's my post from the other thread:
-----------
For anyone that is actually curious, I emailed HTC about the rogue Virgin Media branding on mine:
Hi,
I ordered a SIM free HTC Desire from devicewire.com, and while the phone itself is just fine, I noticed some branding for Virgin Media. There was a shortcut on the homescreen (I assume to the website but I deleted it), the browser's homepage was set to Virgin Media and there is a Virgin Media scene that I can't delete. Devicewire assure me that the phone is a SIM free unit delivered directly from HTC so I was wondering if you had any idea as to why this branding is there?
More importantly, I'd like to confirm that this branding won't affect my ability to update the phone with HTC supplied firmware upgrades.
I look forward to hearing your comments.

And here's their reply:
This is normal. There is a very minor bug in the generic rom in that whenever it sees a SIM from a netork that uses the T-mobile network (T-Mobile, Virgin, Fresh etc) it creates that virgin link and scene.
this will be fixed in the update so it is nothing to worry about. It is definitely a SIM free device you have.
Best regards,

When I bought my Touch HD from the carphone warehouse it was unbranded and didnt have the seal. That was in the box. I was told that is how HTC distribute them. It was/is so that networks can brand them and then apply the seal.
Im not sure if thats right or wrong but it was covered by warranty.
Hi all .. i had iphone 4s which i exchanged with someone via gumtree with one x. the phone was locked to three and was new. so i unlocked it today via unlocksaver.com
i entered the code they gave me and it searched for something then it said successful but when it restarted it is saying IMEI locked in the place where it shows carrier in notification tray. what does that mean? i dont understand is it blacklisted? or is it not unlocked properly? i noticed i tried to restart it 2 or three times and it did got a signal once then again it says imei locked
The only way a phone will get blocked is if the owner reports it being stolen/lost
You could be a victim of crime if bought on second hand market as the owner is probably doing insurance scam.
are u from denmark then post eng and danish
Not had the same issue but saw something in the forum. Try this:
Go to menu settings then power and untick fast boot. Restart phone and see what that does if it works tick fast boot back

Sometimes it just says no service but sometimes it says imei locked .. i am worried my phone has no signal does it has anything to do with that unlock code i purchased?
If the phone is blocked (the imei) from the carrier for being stolen or lost, your sim should work for like 5 minutes before it gets locked, this meens you can make phone calls or send sms in the first 5 minutes before it gets locked.it is how much time your phone needs to send the imei number to your carrier so they can check if it is ok or if it is been stolen/lost. You can go at this website http://www.amta.org.au/pages/amta/Check.the.Status.of.your.Handset and check the status of your imei, it is for Australia but try to find the service/website for your country.

My brand new sim free One X did this when I first tried to use it - called retailer to exchange it - they suggested a hard reset (keep power button held for 10 secs +) and that fixed the problem for me. Worth a try?

tbh if you have been stung by this person with a stolen handset i would return the favor and report the iphone stolen, but dont do it until you have comfermed that he has done this.
sounds like the typical insurance scam to me.

My One X had the exact same problem, took it back to the store i got it from and they changed it for a new one which worked fine.
Seems it may be a problem with the phone rather than a dodgy seller as mine came from Carphone Warehouse
What a cruel joke...after a week I get mine from expansys and I am getting IMEI locked contact customer care!!!! Aghhhh...
Please tell me there is another solution to resolve this aside from RMA and more waiting?
Damn...
Moderator Information,
I have closed this thread as we do not allow the discussion of changing or editing IMEI numbers. I am afraid the best thing you can do is try to find the person who sold you the phone and report the issue to them.
Many thanks,

Hi people.
Just bought myself a HTC One X locked onto T-Mobile network.
I want to use it on Orange UK.
Anyone know if the SIM unlock codes are available?
Every site I go to advise me that the codes aren't available yet.
Is there another way of being able to use my orange SIM with the HTC One X?
Thanks
There are people selling the codes on Ebay, and there is a Tread (closed though) of people who have successfully used these services: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613613&highlight=unlock+code
Check ebay though as they are some for as cheap as £4.
Nice one gaiden, I'll give it a go.
Thanks for help.
A novice like me needs all that I can get!!
Aaaah, just realised why I'm struggling. Apparently the phone has to be at least one month old for IMEI to be registered on server. That means the waiting game......
Cant you just phone tMobile and ask them for a subsidy pin ?
ermmm tmobile and orange are the same company.... is the card being rejected out right?, i can switch between orange and tmobile with no problems with my tmobile card, and my wife has a locked wildfire s to tmobile that happily runs a orange card.
Yeah tmo and orange are now the same network. You shouldnt need to unlock for this.

That is the exact reason why I bought the phone, thinking Orange & T-Mobile have merged into one.
The thing is they share their network coverage but they are still two seperate companies. This was confirmed by Orange UK. And T-Mobile won't deal with me because I don't have an account with them.
So I need to find someone who does have one, or set one up (which I don't want to do).
All the official HTC Unlock sites don't seem to have code available and give me a refund straight away. I'm going to try a couple from EBay this morning to see if they're any better.

T-Mobile will only unlock a handset that is registered to the account. I.e purchased with the number at the same time, as imei's are linked.

Unlock codes!?
Am I missing something,
If you flash an RUU rom surely that will unlock it?
I presume using Ebay Unlocking techniques also risk voiding warrenty?

Flashing a custom ROM does NOT SIM unlock the phone. Unlike unlocking/rooting, SIM unlocking does not void your warranty.
I've used HTC SIM Unlock before and they always been to work. They have a money back guarantee as well. Never trust those unlockers on eBay. I've been scammed too many times. http://www.htcsimunlock.com/#oid=1096_1
Your other option could be to get a PAYG sim card and call them from that. They might unlock it for you as you would have an account with them then?
I never thought of that, ie, getting a PAYG SIM card. Should have done that! Anyways, after many unsuccessful attempts in getting the phone unlocked (the number of refunds I got on my Paypal, I had numerous security checks on my card!), I eventually got hold of the person I bought the phone off. He's kindly got in touch with T-Mobile UK, and for £15-32, they'll unlock it for me. It will take between 10-28 days, so I'm expecting it to come through some time this week at the earliest. I know it may be dear, but I also know they will be able to unlock it, as its their network.
Anyways, thanks for all the help guys!
I just unlocked my one x at unlockcode4u.com and as I made a video they just refunded me, so eventually I didnt pay anything.
My HTC one X is the best phone ever
I bought a Sim network unlock code on ebay, 3 times, I got the same at all three of the seller, but dont work
What could be the problem???
1. - You're getting scammed
2. - Seller has bad/not working codes and is unaware of this
3. - You bought the wrong item
4. - For some reason they don't work because of something with your phone
5. - You're doing it wrong
6. - If it's none of those, blame unicorns. Always blame unicorns.
It's generally not the best idea to try it thrice with the same seller unless you're really confident they're reliable.

Are you running a custom ROM?
If you have 1 or both the unlock code won't work you need to o it on factory ruu as fare as I'm aware as it worked for me

Well at least you got your cash back. I think the best thing to do is to call your carrier and ask them to send you the code.
If it matches to the ones you got fro. I ebay then it norows it down to the phone and you can take it from there

T-Mobile Montenegro provider changes the codes on these phones therefore the codes from the HTC database is wrong.
This is not just with t-mob mont there are so many other networks like portuguese networks, t-mob croatia, voda and orange romania etc..
if the providers change the code, then cable is the only way to unlock these phones.

Hey, I own a HTC One X and my service provider is Virgin Mobile Australia.
My bootloader is unlocked and I wish to return my phone because of the WiFi adapter issues. WiFi signals are usually very weak unless I press my phone near the camera. So, I presume that there is a hardware fault. If I return my phone, will HTC/Virgin Mobile fix the problem free of cost?
I know I should restore my stock nandroid backup, flash stock recovery and re-lock the bootloader.
Still, when I go into the bootloader mode, it says re-locked and not locked. I have no doubts that HTC will know that I've tampered around with the phone. I've had this phone for about six months. Please, please, please help me out with this. I know that I'm a total noob.
Help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks,

i also have the one X (but it's on AT&T in the US), and want to unlock the bootloader to root it... it will always say relocked, and if i ever needed to return it, i would take that up with HTC, right? not AT&T?
