Maybe you slide the phone too fast or you push it too strong . My advice is you hold the screen while sliding it , gently and slowly . It may sound cheeky but ... I've been doing that since I first got my phone . And I never had any problem with the flex cable .
thats hw i always do it but i think that this cable damaged by the amount of sliding i did because i changed my digitizer as well (complete with sensors installed) and the proximity gave me some problems
so i had to slide up and dwn when calling to keep my screen alive
i think that damaged my brand new middle slide plate complete with all cables installed (including flex )

Hello,
It seems that flat cable which connects the slide-out screen is broken: the touch-screen doesn't work, and there's a white lines all over the screen while opening the device.
I've made a call to my local service center and they said that I need to change the whole touch screen because the cable is glued to it.
Is it right? Is there another way to fix the device rather paying $300 for a new screen?
i have also the same problem For my PDA2K , my flat cable which is comming from the screen under the slider is broken ,, half of the cable , i have the orange cable ,, is there any way to fix it
Thanks
Hi dear developers!
I got a Touch Pro 2 from a friend, it's a GSM device he bought in Germany (O2). I changed a few parts but messed the main flex cable. The part from the power button is not connected anymore, a clean cut through, no repairs possible as far i think. So i bought a new one over ebay from Hong Kong. The seller told me it's for a GSM device BUT the cables do not look the same. The production date is 2008 and the damaged one was produced 2009. I built everything together and now the big surprise:
Phone boots normally but when the Home screen appears, it is always in landscape mode. No matter if the phone is closed or the keyboard open. I can only change the screen over advanced tools, but after soft reset again only landscape mode. The buttons for calling also do not work (those two down on the screen when you want to call someone or end a call ---> no reaction).
A hard reset and new ROM (energy) didn't change anything. By the way, the keyboard only fires up after pressing a button. Before it automatically lightened up after sliding.
What the hell is wrong now, did the send me a CDMA cable? Where is the difference ? Please help me i do not want to spent another 30 bucks again for a proper flex cable.
Edit: I disassembled the phone again and took a closer look on the flex cable: the lower part (with the LCD connection etc) looks quite same except for 3 or 4 transistors and their position on the PCB. The upper part with the earpice looks way different. The positioning of the single parts is not the same. But how can that interfere ? Guess there is no problem with the mainboard or the LCD (which is brand new).

OK, i solved the problem. The guy who sold the flex cable sent me a older one as I described. This thing was fully responsible for the errors. Bought a new one and everything works fine now^^ So if you ever want to change your Flex cable take good care which one you buy (especially on ebay!)
Btw: The display and the digitizer are glued and IF you want to replace any of those two, do yourself the favor and buy the complete bundle !!! I made the mistake and tried to replace the digitizer and cracked the display. There is no way as far as I can say, that you can manage this.
Bye
Can u post the seller info? Im in the same situation w a different phone... Thanks
Hi guys i have a problem
I can access different function through the MANUAL KEYS like settings, wireless , sound , display, and all the programs, but digitizer itself seems to be frozen. So i was wondering what is most common problem for that i presume flex cable or digitizer but digitizer is in good condition so what can it be ?
So cable 1 or 2?

Second one is analog touch cable.
To me digitizer doesnt work but analog works ?Which cable is that?
anyone?
whenever I slide out my gamepad my phone does not change the screen mode from portrait to landscape, neither does the xperia play launcher starts or the screen gets unlocked.
sometimes the screen automatically changes the screen mode from portrait to landscape as if the gamepad has been slid out when it isn't.
also games like PES 2012 don't detect the gamepad anymore used to work earlier.
what is the exact problem?
I asked a local mobile repair shop and he says strip of slider (flex cable) must be changed but it isn't available anywhere in my area. if this is correct then I may order the flex cable online.
what do you guys have to say?
To the OP:
My replacement glass+digitizer didn't have adhesive behind the connector like the original so every time the phone would take a hit the screen would go blank. I'd have to take it all apart and reseat the connector. Sometimes the cable that connects to it would twist out a little bit on its own during reassembly and I'd have to do it again. Not I use precisely cut tape or hot glue when I do one (careful of the slide rails). Though my problem usually manifested as a blank screen, twice it manifested as an unresponsive digitizer.
I'd check my connection first.

I responded to your PM. Yes, all the parts involved are available online. The slide board has two metal fingers inside a rail/slot that the bracket joining the two halves slides in. I don't know what the second one is for because all functions seem to react to the first one making or breaking a connection, but it could be causing the problem just as easily. These springy conductive fingers connect through the same flex cable as the switches that the face buttons press (Back, Home, Menu, Search) using some kind of conductive adhesive backing. That part is only a few bucks online, so it may be worth replacing just that to see. Unfortunately, the slider assembly is expensive (at least $20) but the slider + earpiece/camera + slide cable + switches is a comparative value at only a few bucks more.
Recently, I disassembled my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800at. I was replacing the housing and digitizer. All went smoothly until I missed an important step. There was a black tab that holds down the flex cable that connects to the digitizer. I forgot that step and my flex cable ripped.I have ordered another as a replacement. I understand that this will cause the digitizer to not work, but I have more issues, and I want to know if they are due to the missing cable.(the ripped flex cable.) I assembled the phone and the screen functions normally. As to be expected, I can't interact with the screen. However, Now my search button and settings buttons aren't functioning. My home and back buttons are working although. Also, My phone will not charge anymore. Is this due to the missing flex cable? I hope I didn't accidentally screw anything up. I was really careful, so I don't know why they won't function. I really hope that these issues are due to the missing cable. :silly:
Sorry, I am not allowed to post links. It has the camera and earpiece on it and is attached to the slider. :"(
How. Could u miss a step itsm really easy to take apart and put together its the flex cable garunteed

Tutorials
Most of the tutorials seem to be only of disassembly. Little to none are of reassembly. I wrote down a list and reversed the order, but as it got closer to assembly, I started to assemble it myself. Big mistake. I assumed the black tab was only there to hide the chips.
Charge Recognition
It actually can charge, but only when the phone is powered of. This must be due to the missing components. Maybe because some parts of the phone aren't connected, the phone will not recognize the charger when powered on. What a relief...
Just watch dissassembly in reverse

I got the replacement part. I even replaced the slider. I transferred the button cable to the new slider along with the main flex cable and the camera/earpiece flex cable. I am confused. I am inserting the flex cable into the digitizer slot, but it isn't working. I assumed there was a lock mechanism of some sort, but still no luck. I am not sure why it isn't going all the way in. Reversing the steps just isn't working. Placing the flex cable in is way harder than taking it out. Is there a certain way to place this cable in. What I am in need of is a picture of how a functioning digitizer's attachments look. Are you supposed to be able to see the golden tip of the flex cable?(Again, I am speaking of the flex cable with the black tab covering it. It is very small.)
:crying:
Lock.
There were locks for just aboul all the ZIF Connectors. Sony Ericsson's manual is the best!:good:
I tried again using the locks on the slots but it still wont work. Even with the manual, no luck... Now, it is charging normally, even while on. This indicates that something has changed. I wonder why the digitizer isn't working though. Maybe I should see what happens If I revert back to my old digitizer...
When I disassembled my xperia play for the first time,
the screen digitizer was damaged by my mistake.
I can't sure that, but I guess it can be.
At that time,
the bottom of screen (about 1/3?) didn't work.
So I bought the screen digitizer,
and replace it today.
But the problem hasn't been solved all the way.
If separate into 6 parts the screen from top.
(For example the top part is 1st part.
And beneath 1st part is 2nd part.)
5th parts doesn't work.
But the bottom 6th part works well.
I don't want to buy else new screen digitizer.
Please let me know how to use my xperia play with any problems.
Please help me.
Thanks about reading my thread.

Are you sure it's digitizer problem? Maybe it's flex
I had similiar problem, but in my case whole touchscreen didn't work and it happened randomly on reboot
It turns out that when i was repairing my usb port i somehow didn't place flex cable properly and it was bended over that metal part of slider.
Once i reopen it (only the part with motherboard on it) and place flex cable properly, touchscreen started to work normaly
How old is your Play? When you opened it, does flex cable looks damaged?
Where did you buy your digitizer? If it was from eBay, you could ask for a replacement from the seller you bought it from.
Like Bakisha, it could be the flex cable. If you know the digitizer is working, it usually is the flex cable.

In fact, the flex cable of my xperia play looks a bit little.
The black color had been painted on cable wear a little.
So do you recommend me to replace flex cable?

If I ask for sending normal item without any problem again, should I send to seller the screen digitizer ?

Well, you could open your Play and see if flex cable properly placed. Open slider and put that white plastic inside metal frame. Put back dpad part of phone back, but keep an eye on that white plastic, it have two holes in motherboard to go into, then screw those two screws on motherboard (so it will make flex cable plug in motherboard - look if jack is now properly inserted
Close it and try it.
If you again have problems with touchscreen, then you have two options. Replace flex or replace digitizer. It's hard to say wich is faulty...
