So laggy..please help. - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I just got the tab 3 8.0, and I like most part of it but the performance is seriously bad..I have already restored all my apps from Google server. While running apps and switching between them, I can't take all the lags it has. I just got it today so I can return it if I want but I'm wondering if rooting this device actually gains much performance improvements. I used to have a galaxy s2x, which has a similar if not worse spec than this tablet, and I don't know if It was because I running rooted version of touchwiz or not but the performance was pretty good. This tablet is much worse. A simple reboot fixes the lag but after a few hours, as I use it, I notice the stutters while using it. I just had a serious lag in Google plus app, it was stuttering so bad, but it came back to smooth after 5 seconds.
So will installing the custom Rom available for tab 3 8.0 improve the performance significantly? I know there are not many ROMs for tab 3 8.0, so any user of this device just rooted the tab and tweak it themselves to gain performance improvements? Not just little bit, but a lot.
Thanks!

One thread is enough, you don't have to post the same question in multiple sections.
As I said on your other thread, stop blaming the device and look at your apps. My 8.0 isn't laggy at all. In fact it's pretty zippy. Chances are one of your apps is causing the issue or you have too much stuff filling your memory. Do a factory reset. If the lag stays gone add your apps back a couple at a time till you find the one that's not playing nice. How much free space/memory do you have left? The fact that the lag goes away when you reboot points to it being an app problem.

go to developers options and turn off all animations,
also disable CPU power saving option in power saving mode,
then check if you feel any difference

Thanks for replies guys!
So I believe it was ram issue. Too little ram left when it was stuttering really bad. However, I'm wondering why this device was not releasing ram by closing open apps for the forgoing app to run well. This is the android way of managing ram isn't it? But when I checked the ram manager in the task manager app that came with the tab, there was very little ram left, less than 100mb I believe.
After I have been using it for more now, I also rooted it, and I deleted almost all the unnecessary bloatware. I think I see a huge improvement in performance after I did this, deleting bloatware.
The tablet runs pretty well now.
Although..I still see some stutters in animations, where the animation has dropped frame rates. Is this just due to Touchwiz? It doesn't happen every time, but sometime when opening app, or switching between apps in recent apps panel. The animations sometimes are pretty choppy. It is not a huge deal, but I just remember that my S2X was much smoother. Maybe it's because I was running a custom rom which was heavily tweaked by deviant development.
Any info would be great!
Thanks for your help again guys.

Hmmm, i have no problem at all, the tab 3 runs pretty smooth, stock. Now I have set the animations to 0.5 in developer options and it runs even smoother. Ok, it's not as fast as the Note 2, but it runs very nice. Very happy with it. (Using Nova launcher)
(I also disabled some if the apps that come with it, SNS Samsung Facebook, Samsung widgets, flipboard an the lot)

I see. Mine is running pretty nice right now but I'm feel kind of afraid as I use it thinking "will this animation be choppy?" As I long press the home button or something. Lol I really don't like choppiness.
So you don't notice ANY choppiness in animation? I want to know if it's only my device so that I can figure out what's the cause. I'm using nova launcher as well btw.
Thanks!

I really love my Nexus but...

I really love my Nexus. Gorgeous, perfectly sized 720p display, super sleek black curved display with NO carrier branding or capacitive buttons, nice loud speakerphone & ICS is fantastic. Great things to love about the Nexus!
But this phone Laaaaaaaaaaaaaags. And please don't tell me i got a bad one, or I need to reflash yada yada. If you don't agree about the lag, then you are in denial.
I'm currently running AKOP 4 & Francos 3rd Milestone + oc'd to 1.35.
I'll admit, his latest kernel sped it up again, but it seems like its only temporary. With every flash, it always starts out fast, but then after 2 weeks - it starts to slow down again.
Where do I notice it? Well lets see, try pulling down your status bar from the lock screen and see if there sometimes isn't a 1 or 2 sec delay. Is this due to the phone just waking up from being asleep at 300 mhz?
But its not just there. Opening text messages, call log, emails - its just slow.
I just kinda got used to the general lag in the system, but then I played with a Stock Galaxy s2 on GB the other day & I was amazed at how fast that phone was. It ran circles around my nexus.
So I got to thinking, on older computers with slower processors - if you try and run youtube at 720p @ full screen, it gets super choppy and laggy. Then I compared that to the nexus. Its trying to push ALOT of pixels. Is a 1.35 ghz processor enough for the resolution it runs?
Would a 1.5 or 1.7 ghz phone run it normally?
Whats with the Lag???
Franco milestones are stock gpu values so overclocking your CPU isn't doing much. I'm running the latest trinity and it's got a heavy gpu overclock and this phone is the smoothest Android GUI I've ever experienced and I've experienced a lot.
So yes yadayada, reflash, etc etc

Thanks for this. I was on the fence between this or waiting for the gs3, currently running stock gb with adw pro on an exynos gs2, guess I'll just keep saving for the unlocked gs3 and hope Google Play carries it.

This, also, maybe try running something other than AOKP for a while. Though its really customisable, it isn't exactly the snappiest ROM.

Hmm well I have never tried the Trinity kernel, just thought everyone raves about franco so why switch? Didn't know the GPU would effect general performance. Always thought it was just for gaming. Trinity can be OC'd?

Ya man, never been a huge fan of the S2 due to the general design of the phone + I hate touchwiz and odin.
Yesterday I was fed up & Just put in an order for an HTC One S but then cancelled it today when I heard the speakerphone and saw how amplified the dots of the pixels really can get when you run Super Amoled on a 960 x 540 res.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Stock ICS.
Learn to clean out your recent apps menu. Google integrated a task manager into the recent apps menu for a reason.
Your phone lags because it's running low on memory, and 99% of developers suck at memory management. Just because you don't have a taskbar at the bottom of the screen telling you how many apps you have open doesn't mean there probably isn't something that you left open, hogging your system resources. The same thing has happened on desktop computers for years, what makes you think your phone is going to act any different?
I just know that I run stock 4.0.4 + root, and it works just fine, no lag whatsoever... But, since you say your phone has a loud speakerphone, it must not be the Galaxy Nexus lol... At least not an Ok one, because it surely has one of the worst speakerphone I have ever heard... And don't call me Shirley!

You could be right on this. I dont ever restart my phone and I always just Go home when I'm done. Any way to have it auto kill after about an Hour or so?
Im surprised Thats not something Google would have implemented in ICS just for performance?

i have a SG2...getting my nexus delivered tomorrow so i started browsing the nexus section...
for starters on any android you shouldnt press home unless you are leaving the app for a brief moment and are planning on going back to it...home will keep the app running...you have to use the back key to close out of many apps (especially the ones that dont have a designated exit button)
app management is very crucial but auto killing isnt good for the system...android will close apps on its own as space is needed...however there are certain apps that are service hogs and eat up ram...i am somewhat of an app hoarder but i know which apps to keep and which to get rid of...normally if you have like 120mb of free ram or so a dual core phone shouldnt ever lag...if it lags its not due to memory
on my SG2 i have like 200+ apps but almost always have like 250mb ram free (even without a reboot for several days)...on the rare occasions that i feel it lag i check and sometimes i will see that it dropped down to like 80mb free...a quick reboot fixes it
its also good to reboot your phone every few days
I'm reading a bone stock sprint galaxy nexus. I have no lag at all. And I'm coming from an epic touch. In my experience custom rom's slow down after a while. Which is why I usually stay stock with root.

You want to try to avoid automated task killers because they can lead to stability issues if they're too aggressive, and as an additional background process they have the potential to eat your battery life. The safest way to kill apps is just by swiping them away with the recent apps menu.
Google tries really hard to implement a good system of memory management in Android, the problem is just that developers don't really utilize it. You can clearly see the difference especially if you like to run alternative browsers or old games. All of the stock Google apps work great and I can keep them open forever, but if I leave StumbleUpon or Plants Vs. Zombies open in the background long enough my phone will start to chug.

Is the GNex, seriously, this slow?

I’ve had the GNex since the day it came out. Unlocked bootloader, flashed a new rom and did everything from there.
I’ve noticed that with every new nightly build, there was always a bug here and there which made it felt like this phone was never really solid.
Don’t get me wrong. I love this phone and it has served me well.
Recently, I bought the nexus 5 for my wife. Instantly, it felt a billion times faster right out of the box compared to my custom GNex.
It got me thinking, was the GNex always been THIS SLOW and LAGGY? Or is it the wrong ROM I’ve been using all this time? I’ve went from PA to AOKP to Slim and now Liquid. I’ve used the latest Kitkat on all and there’s ALWAYS this super bad lag after using it for a few days.
It got to the point where I did a FULL DATA WIPE on every new nightly that came out.
I’ve always done the following when installing a new ROM:
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik
4. Reboot into recovery again. Repeat 1-3 then install new ROM, then gapps.
5. Reboot phone one last time to finalize.
The new ROM always feels smooth/fast in the beginning, but after a while, it feels like $H*t.
I've also tried this with different combination of kernels such as Franco, Dirty V and with ART enable and disabled.
Any difference is negligible and doesn't seem to vastly improve performance.
I don’t have many apps. In fact, 95% of the apps I use are google apps (gmail, etc) Then I have pandora, evernote and a couple of other productive apps and that’s about it.
So what’s really slowing down my GNex? Too many flashes in the past 2-years? Bad ROM? Bad installation?
Or has it always been like this and I just haven’t noticed how slow/laggy it was?
Your help would be appreciated. I really don’t want to jump onto a new phone quite yet.
First of all dont even try to compare it to the Nexus 5. Its just a newer phone.. Of course its faster. My phone is flying. Things age over time. Soaybe your device is just aging. And with the right kernel and settings you can make your phone really fast. I never had lag but I had faster and slower roms or kernels.. Its what you make of it and what you think is lag..

In that case, please share your every details. I'd love to try them out and give new life to my GNex.
Which ROM, which kernel, performance, every main settings etc...
Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 5 are just different generations of the family, they ought to have differences. In my opinion, no matter how you optimize our Galaxy Nexus, it can run nicely, the animations can be mostly smooth, but it just couldn't catch up to a Nexus 5, mostly in apps' loading speed and other things that requires sheer CPU power. Sure, it doesn't even catch up to my properly optimized Nexus 4.

GNex 5 is not comparable to Nexus 5.I have tried GNex earlier and i am quite dissatisfied from it.Now i switched to Nexus 5 and there no hanging problem in nexus 5 at all and provide good memory usage.

Have you gave Vanir a try? If you haven't already well maybe you should because this is by far the smoothest/fastest ROM available for the Gnex. It may lag here and there but it is certainly tolerable given that this a 2+ year old phone.
Comparing the gnex to any current flagship phone is kind of silly considering they all contain the latest and greatest in CPU's/GPU's + more ram . So obviously there will be significant differences in terms of performance...not sure why you would expect anything else.
Give vanir a try and see if your Gnex runs a little better. PA AOKP and CM11 are noticeably laggier than Vanir...don't know why but they just are. If Vanir doesn't make your Gnex experience any better well just deal with it until you buy a new phone.

It's just that I don't recall the phone being THIS SLOW compared last year or a few months ago when JB was around.
It definitely feels so much more laggier these days.
Has it been a global change in all the ROMs that infected all gnex roms?
Compared to newer phones our Galaxy Nexus is slower i think. I got my Mum the Motorola Moto G and it does seem a lot more responsive than my Galaxy Nexus running the CM11 M4 Build.
However i do have a lot of apps running in the background such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Push Email and so on, the Moto G was a fresh phone with nothing on.
I do feel the Galaxy Nexus is significantly faster with a 4.4 rom, compared to 4.3 or 4.2, however its not as snappy as a newer device, which considering the phone is 2 and a half years old i dont think you can expect it to be.
I think also apps get more demanding, i mean WhatsApp is getting huge now and using more ram, as are other apps you likely use on a daily basis.
I dont have lag.. Maybe you can share your setup/settings with us? And the Moto G is a newer phone with F2FS this makes it faster.. Also please dont use the facebook app. It slows your device and eats battery and ram. Probably all developers here will tell you the app should be banned from google play.

I've noticed that my navigation bar always consists of 5 items: Google Now, Back, Home, Recents and Last app.
I used those very frequently. To each one of those, I've also assigned a long press action to them: Bookmark#1, #2, Voice Command, Calculator and app drawer.
My nav ring has 5 item as well, with each their own long press.
I tend to launch each app not using the recents button, but rather the shortcuts that I've assigned them. That way, all apps I frequently access is only a single press or swipe away. The more buttons I press, the more I am annoyed.
^^ Could this be the reason why my phone laggs so much?
My ram shows that I have 176MB using dirty V RSR. And less )~60MB) with the others. But regardless, 176MB still feels like 60MB. Laggg..

Goodness sake.
1. If you compare the Galaxy Nexus with the Nexus 5, you're trying to compare a ferrari 599 GTO with a Ferrari 360 spyder. -_- dafuq.
Yes spyder is fast, but the freaking technology advanced by 3 years.
2. Performance is not completely comprimised. It's by how much you make the ROM lean, and how efficient each custom kernel runs on your device.
3. Make sure the KERNEL you use has the optimizations you want.
Cheers.

I've noticed the most lag when I use the Google Chrome Browser.
I tend to always have at lest 2 tabs going.
What kernel or kernel optimization should I be looking for in order to maximize the Galaxy Nexus for this particular task?
I started using Chrome Beta instead of regular Chrome few weeks ago. For me, it feels a liitle smoother

[Q] Improve the Tab Pro like the Tab S?

I have a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520.
i just tried the new Tab S 10.5 and it is way smoother than the Tab Pro 10.1, has anyone else noticed this?
Now because these devices are pretty much identical except for the extra 1gb of RAM in the Tab S, so if I increase the RAM in my Tab Pro using Roehsoft Ram Expander could I expect my Tab Pro 10.1 will become smoother?
Also would I be able to flash the Tab S ROM on my Tab Pro? would it work without any problems? In case it has more optimized software?
Kind feel gipped that both devices are essentially the same yet the Tab S is miles smoother.
Thanks Guys
Both Tab S and Tab Pro have 3gb ram don't they.
I have the 12.2 Tab Pro and that says it as 3gb ram
Only the 12.2.

10.1 has 2 GB.
Sent telepathically to my SM-T520
bought the 10.1 at BB on release day and have been there several times lately looking at the S and besides tthe screen size and improved screen (this doesnt mean that much to me) i am very pleased with the 10.1 and they seem to behave the same with all my looking.
i dont think having their rom would change anything and honeslty my 10.1 isnt laggy and has replaced my laptop for everything but for work.
i am certain that we will see some kind of S Pro or something hit later this year when the holidays hit and i will jump then.
i turned on Developer Options and set animations to 0 as i always do on everything and mine runs smooth.
Sammy has just this week firgured out how to actually get 6 of the 8 cores working together at once and we havent seen that update and probabaly wont for some time and that will make a huge difference.
also if like me you are on the web a lot with all that white background you will get better battery life on 10.1 but if your a video person with all the black background time you gain with the S.
I think all new android devices run the smoothest when they are new. As you download apps u can't help but have stuff running in the background. Android devices tend to slow down the longer you have them based on my experience.
I imagine demo mode is probably meant to run as fast as possible so that buyers aren't turned off by lag etc. If you have lag on your pro it has to have something to do with an app pulling too much ram. However, that extra 1gb of ram probably makes a difference. I know it did with my note 3 vs every other Samsung device I've owned. My pro 8.4 doesn't lag but it doesn't feel as fast as my note 2014 did while I had it. Software optimization has never been Samsung's strong suit.

To be honest the best thing you can do to fight lag on the tab pro is dump the horrible Magazine UX launcher. Samsung really sucks as a software company and it really shows with Magazine UX. Google OTOH makes some of the best software and it shows with the Google Now Launcher.
BTW I tried really hard to force myself to use magazine ux for 6 weeks after I got my tab pro. What a waste of time. I was wondering why my battery always ran down fast, and the app drawer was laggy etc. But it turned out it was the god-awful Touchwiz/Magazine UX bullsht the whole time. Switched to GNL and it was like i had a new tablet (again!)
Seriously if anyone is complaining about lag and is still using Touchwiz, I'd say that the solution is right in front of their nose, lol
What should I do if I want to switch to GNL..just install it from play store ?
Do I have to uninstall the Touchwiz as well ?
Can I go back to Touchwiz if don't like the GNL at a later time ?
Thanks

no, u can only install it from the play store if you have a Nexus device. for Galaxy Tab devices, you need to sideload the apk.
see here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-drive-google-now-launcher-and-play-services/
No need to uninstall Touchwiz. it stays on your device, but it won't be always running if you switch to GNL.
of course you can switch back later if you want. btw if u decide to switch to GNL, i suggest removing all icons/widgets from your Touchwiz home screens and re-adding them to your GNL home screens.
Thanks and will try soon..
I can only speak of the Tab Pro 8.4. But it was laggy on TouchWiz, and going to a CM based ROM made it much smoother. Honestly, I don't see any of the TouchWiz features (with exception of MultiWindow) to be of any added value; and I'm hardly missing TouchWiz one bit (again, MW is all I miss).

personally i use All Share, Hancom Widget, WatchON, love Samsung Calendar, SideSync, love the Email, and a few others i am sure i am forgetting. i use to despise TW and all layovers but TW has grown on me. like my Note 3 i will take the custom TW based Roms and use Root and Xposed to customize it the way i like versus trying to force back CM like Roms to give me the TW features back i like which never works right when going that direction.

Yup, I completely recognize its a matter of personal taste, how you use your device, etc. I kinda had a love/hate relationship with WatchON. The rest, I either didn't have much use for, or didn't like them. I actually stayed stock on my Note 8 for the year I used it (broke the screen), but I am the opposite of you on the Tab Pro (how TouchWiz grew on you), I was fine with TouchWiz before and for whatever reason now I can't stand it. I was using CleanROM for a couple months. But now I'm on Codename Lungo (CM based) and can't imagine going back to a TouchWiz ROM.

Tab S 10.5 lag

I've had the Tab S 10.5 for about a month now and the lag while using everyday apps is driving me crazy. My top three offenders are:
1. Chrome
2. Play Newsstand
3. Play Store
I've done the following to help improve things:
- Changed launcher to Nova.
- Disabled bloatware (everything I can without rooting).
- Installed Chrome Samsung support library.
3D heavy games seem to run fine. My last tablet was a HP touchpad running CM11 so I am used to dealing with a few quirks. I stepped up to the Tab S to get away from some of that though. I know Android is infamous for scroll stutter, but it seems to me that a flagship tablet should easily beat out a bootleg touchpad.
Is this on par? Also, does anyone else's tab s get really hot around the touch screen near the Samsung logo? Maybe the Nexus 9 is worth another look. :silly:
Thanks for your comments.
Edit: I've read similar posts on lag. It seems like the argument boils down to: 1. Personal perception or 2. A mysterious "bad batch" of hardware.
i did the same steps,my tab is full of apps and games but i have 0 lag and the browsing is also fcking smooth. In the settings i also turned of features like dual window.
Are you sure you turned off fully power saving mode? About heating,if i play a game like gta or hearthstone i can also feel a warm area under samsung logo but is not hot and pretty common if you play games.
edith and use chrome beta instead of the standard chrome
Chrome lags on the tab s. Happens to most people. To fix over heating i installed a custom kernel that would optimise and prevent heating. Some big games do lag aswell.

can you upload a video to see the lag we are talking about?
I want to buy this tablet, and Ive read many posts about lag... but actually, is it very annoying? is there any video to see it?

Only on certain apps. Chrome and a few others. On some games it just lags on loading screen but not during gameplay. Watch a veiw reviews on youtube. Theres some videos talking about the lag. Touchwiz launcher also has lag but can be fixed.

I think it depends on your perception of lag and what apps you mainly use. In my case, Chrome and Newsstand are always up so I see the lag constantly. I wish I had a Nexus 9 side by side for comparison. If I get a chance I'll take a video, but it might be hard to see. I played with a demo model at Best Buy and it seemed faster than mine as well.
I came from a iPad mini 2 (last year's model) to this tablet. As smooth as my iPad was I have to say I have very little if any lag on mine. It's runs beautifully for me. I'm OCD, any bit of lag would drive me up the wall. I really don't notice hardly anything. I'm still running bone stock everything minus using Nova launcher. Don't even feel like I need to root or flash anything. Although I'm going to once there is a root released for my model. Maybe I'm just lucky I don't know. Have had zero issues.
I'm used to an overloaded gs3 so this looks ultra smooth to me [emoji3]
It lags more with multiple user logged in, always reboot of you don't need the additional user

For example, this thread's website lags a great deal in chrome beta when scrolling. Other sites aren't too bad. Newsstand is the worst though. Are you using the stock broswer?
This site does lag a little when scrolling. That I do have to admit. For whatever reason it doesn't really bother me however. I've never noticed any scroll stutter on stock android so I attribute it to touchwiz. This thing debloated or running a custom rom probably flys. I imagine any scroll stutter would be gone at that point.
I use the stock browser. I was never a fan of chrome. I know that on touchwiz your going to get the best performance from the stock browser unless there's a fix I'm unaware of which could be a possibility. Newsstand I actually haven't used so I can't speak for it. TouchWiz is just eating up so much ram. I'm like always at 1.5 to 2 gigs of ram with nothing running (other then the tons of unnecessary system apps I can't terminate) That is pretty ridiculous to me. Is touchwiz smooth as stock android? Definitely not. But I really have little to no lag other then scroll stutter on certain sites. I'm still going to root and debloat this thing when it's available for my model so I can truly experience the power of this tablet.
Lol, chrome sucks
It's about time Samsung optimised their flagship device. Had 3 since July and they all lag, stutter when scrolling and render pics poorly. Nova didnt fix the problems and changing some apps like using chrome beta marginally helped.
About time they fixed this via an update rather than just forget about the device and launch more/different models. Samsung will always fail unless it focuses on a core product set and spend the time making the hardware work properly with the software.
I was attacked when I first got my first device for stating lag. Whether an first time user or someone who doesn't want to root (glad I didn't after having 3 replacements), I shouldn't have to kill apps, install different roms and root.
Certain other OS fix problems like these quickly. Where's support from Samsung??
I have the note 4, their es8000 led TV, fridge freezer and various other bits so I'm not a Samsung hater by any means, just someone who expects upgrades to fix problems.
It's hard to determine how much lag is there until you run the same apps side by side with another tablet.
Over Xmas I got a chance to do just that. Ran S 10.5 side by side with my sister's nexus 7 2013. Both running kit kat (hers is 4.4.3 instead of 4.4.2).
Play Store and chrome both run smoother on hers, less jerking and stopping when scrolling. Tapatalk about same. She has Google now launcher, feels faster and smoother than nova launcher on mine. Overall, every thing just feels a little smoother and more fluid.
Granted, the nexus is 1920x1200 so it's pushing fewer pixels around, but the nexus is one year older and I paid $179 for it vs $379 for the S.
I think Samsung slapped on the OLED display and said heh, good enough. Which is true because I bought it
Custom Rom?
I made a rom that is all stock, just a few optimisations. Better performance, better batterylife and so on, here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107
I'd use only stock browser, if it had a full screen option and some gestures, but nope.
My alternative browser is maxthon pioneer, it has everything but stutters a lot
I've had my S 10 since August....I don't like chrome, never have, but after reading all this I opened chrome and came to this forum and I see no issues at all. NONE, other than I don't like chrome
I'm stock not rooted or ROMed. I have Apex launcher installed since day one and disabled all the Samsung and google bloat I could disable.
I have no issues with this tablet other than posting on some forums is a little quirky but that's just the way things are. I normally use Dolphin with the Jetpack or Boat Browser for tablet.
I love this tablet! Sure beats the stuffing out of my Asus TF700T! What a total POC that is!

I just throw in a wipe cache once every few days, and stock browser experience is very smooth, even with the second account logged on, with Facebook, dropbox, carousel and plenty other services in background
Don't worry about the Lag
This lag on Tab S is only temporarily, the Android 5.0 will get rid of 90% of the lag. I know this for fact because I have Note 3 with Touch-wiz it lags often, after installing Android 5.0 I have NOT ONCE run into lag after 1 month of using it.
As of now, the Tab S is supporting android 5.0 cm 12 which there should definitely be no lag but again its unofficial ROM as of now, there are still things they are working on. Samsung's android 5.0 will get rid significant amount of lag, because Android 5.0 have 60 fps animation smoothness, and efficient RAM usage.
I've also heard rumors Samsung is working to refreshing their Touchwiz Interface with slim amount of lag. So, the future is promising.
As of now, if you really can't stand the lag, Install the Android 5.0 ROM for Cm 12, there are afew things not working in their such as Camera, NFC or something else, but the usage should show NO LAG!!!

Tab S lag?

Hi guys,
I am planning to buy the Tab S with the Exynos processor in the Netherlands, but 50% of the people says it lags like hell, and the other 50% says it is really smooth and the best thing you can buy!
I can't decide whether it is good or not ( it has Android L).
Please help me out!

Your question will not get you a clear answer as you need to match your specific user profile and previous devices with those saying the device is laggy. I do not find my Tab S 10.5 laggy on stock, rooted 5.0.2. I'm not a gamer and mainly use the device for media consumption (reading news, YouTube, Netflix and email), none of which is too taxing. I replaced the stock launcher with Nova Prime launcher and used Titanium Backup to freeze the majority of bloat wear which reduced the start times and memory used. My previous devices are a Nexus 5 phone and a Nexus 10 tablet.
Using this kind of analysis you may be able to determine if this tablet is "laggy" for your personal usage profile.

Root?
Thanks for the reply,
May I ask why you rooted it? Didn't you like the bloatware, or was it kinda not responsive?
I'm not sure where and when this lag occurs, but I've never experienced it.
However I'm not a gamer.
It doesn't lag in games in my experience. However, IMO it lags when you are switching between apps and launching apps, which is weird because I often use the multiwindow feature and the tablet is clearly capable of running two apps at the same time.
Btw, the reason why some people think it doesn't lag is because lag is a very subjective issue. What I consider lag may be totally acceptable to others.

Well I compare it to my htc m8 which is a powerful device in its own right and it compares admirably most of the time.
I think it's mostly down to TouchWiz not the hardware. Just too much bumpf under the hood.
Samsung need to learn that most people don't want all that baggage and to provide a more minimal experience. They can always offer the extras as optional downloads.
However I must say things like Web browsing have improved with lollipop and the stock browser. Its about the smoothest experience of all the available browsers.

Oh yes. Having used a Nexus 4 I know how smooth stock android can be. Samsung installs way too much crap on their devices, but I like the multi window feature too much to give up touchwiz. Last I heard the multiwindow feature still hasn't been implemented in AOSP Marshmallow.
Stock browser is amazing. I used to use chrome but it lagged like crazy. Not sure how Google can screw up chrome that badly, but then again chrome is a resource hog even on Windows.
NEver be a gamer on tablet, i always use it for media comsumption.
but, yeah, it's kinda laggy because my tablets installed with pre installed apps + full google apps.
And it's kinda lag sometime.
If you have Root, install Kernel Aduitor (free). The only thing you need to change is the Min CPU freq, 250 mhz is pretty slow.
450 or 650 mhz get things snappy.

I rooted for a few reasons. Proper device backups with Titanium Backups, superior audio with Viper4Android, Stickmount and immersion mode with GDM Gesture Control plus it's customized gestures. I use those root apps on all my devices.
I froze apps as several were being automatically started at boot time slowing down startup and unnecessarily using memory. I wanted a cleaner experience. The unwanted apps also clutter up your app menu, making it slightly more difficult to find the app you wanted to start. In general I freeze over removing as you cannot use that much of the freed up space except for SuperSU, Viper4Androis and Busybox. There are a few more but far less than the space freed by removing bloat wear.
I also dark themed TW settings and the notification bar as I cannot stand white backgrounds with black text but that was secondary to the root reasons listed above.
Due to the ability to root without tripping KNOX I could root without loosing my warranty. Without that I would have waited for a year until the warranty expired.
