Android 4.4 - kitkat apps and conversion thread - LG Optimus G (International)

As we all know, Android Kitkat 4.4 was launched today along with the Nexus 5. Google has also released the sourcecode for the new OS.
There are, however, a plethora of 4.4 applications that are supported by 4.3 -- just to keep you occupied till 4.4 comes out for our phones (unofficially, of course).
I've been dumping these applications that I've tested right here:
https://mega.co.nz/#F!yd9XyKRZ!OONKBzzngb8R2nmDIpxFFw
Of course, this is not at all officially supported however I've gotten the new launcher, keyboard, google search, hangouts (with SMS) and everything else working as well.
Enjoy!

Here you can find lot more..

I've installed Gmail and Hangouts in LG stock ROM (epsilon) and are working great!

I assume these don't work with stock 4.1.2 (no root), do they?

I miss my n4, there are at list 4 kitkat builds ready to download...
Someone is working with the sources?

you have to install google now from nexus 5 factory image, than it'll work. but no "ok google"-Voice search. This feature will only work with s800 cpus.

I have tryed camera also, fc when I switch to panorama or sphere. Optimus G 4.1.2 stock. Maybe something else is needed for that too?
Edit: Just tryed launcher on my phone ( LGOG stock rom), installed velvet.apk, prebuiltgmscore.apk and launcher but when I try to open it Google Search fc...

I'm getting "there's a problem parsing this package" error on Velvet.apk and GoogleHome.apk.
Any idea?

you're right. but it's not like on moto x, it only works when you are on one of the homescreens and google now, and only with us amarican language. for moto x functionality it would need a dedicated cpu-core.

Try using Utter if you want the "Ok Google" functionality on the LGOG. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brandall.nutter

No. Remote doesn't work, and even then I know back with sense its apps don't work without its framework. So a sense TV app wouldnt work with aosp

If you don't flash a Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean based rom you will find that most
all of those samsung jellybean apps will not install either.
Most every Samsung Touchwiz app like WatchON and all the others like Hangout,
S memo, S health, S translate, S voice, Samsung link, Voice search and others will
not work or install on any cm10/aosp/aokp roms.
Also as you most likely already know there is no wifi calling feature in any of those roms.
There's an app called Smart Remote for Galaxy S4 doesn't work either
IR sensor doesn't work yet. There is another thread for cm10.1

Hangouts is just an updated Google Talk.. it's not limited to TW only. Unless Hangout and Hangouts are two different apps.
The ir sensor didn't work on any aosp rom, it only works on touchwiz rooms

People really need to learn the difference between an AOSP ROM and TouchWiz ROMs before flashing and complaing TW apps do not work.

Actually, it's more correct to say they will not work on a non-Samsung kernel.
The IR blaster *works* in CM11, for example... But WatchOn is looking for the Samsung driver, and it's not there... Ergo, it runs (it is NOT touchwiz dependent) but it does not emit IR.
:/

I was using cyanogenmod 10 and watchon worked good...
Then i installed cm 11 nightlie and watchon stopped working
There a app called Samsung ir Universal remote that works.

WatchON does work on CM 10.2, I've used it as a remote with that ROM--it was the only Samsung app that came with the phone that I liked. With CM11 (a 4.4 ROM) it says it's not compatible.
Just tried Samsung WatchON v7.12.1.8 (apk downloaded from the web given that Google Play Store doesn't allow me to download it) on my Samsung S4 GT-i9505 (rooted) with CM11 (cm-11-20150316-NIGHTLY-jflte) and IT IS WORKING like it was with TW 4.4

Got it.
This sounds like a rule. If that's the case why don't we ask admins to set an auto-close option for threads that old? If the thread is still open I would assume it is still allowed to reply so, next time it will be someone else replying and you'll need to tell him the same thing.
Does it sound fair to you?
Ditto.
If it's such a nono then why don't these old ass threads close.
Oh, I know, maybe it'll help someone down the line, well then why chastise for adding to the thread?
Sometimes I think xda stands for something else.

Android 4.4 AOSP Camera Error

Can someone please help me, I can't take any photos on my N7 2013 with PA 4.4 AOSP ROM, the stock camera app comes up black with the ui and sometime disappears from the app drawer and any other third party app gives me an error message. I'm curious to know if this is because of the fact that Google haven't released the 4.4 binaries or its just me? Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Sent from my AOSP on Flo using Tapatalk
This is a binary issue. All of the 4.4 ROMs for the N7 have this problem.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Won't be fixed till Google releases binaries for our device. Known issue they even talk about in the 4.4 pa thread that you probably downloaded that rom from. Better reading next to time.
Good, then we shall fight in the shade!
Me too

Voice+

Has anyone been able to integrate this with our stock rooted 4.2.2?
Huge thank you to anyone who can and post instructions and maybe the built apk! Coming from a CM11 Nexus 4 and having ported my number to google voice I never realized how terrible google voice integration is until I had to use it with stock on my Moto G.

TIA
Check my signature. XVoice+ with Xposed framework.

[Q] Worth switching to a Google Play Edition ROM?

Hi all,
I want to use the Google Play launcher, mostly for the "OK Google" always on feature. Is it possible to flash my device to a Google Play edition ROM? Is it worth flashing to one of these ROMS (stability?) or is there another ROM which would be better suited for me? Basically I want to get back to a standard Android ROM / UI.
Thanks!

The GPE ROMs are not functional on the V500. The closest you'll come is CM11.

Thanks for this, I've been reading around and it's a shame to see the V500 and V510 have different hardware
If I move to CM11, would I be able to get the always on "OK Google" feature to work? Not too bothered about battery life I just wanted to try out the features for a project I will be working on.
Thanks,

The Google Now launcher can be downloaded from the Play store and will work with CM11. Also, I think I say something recently about it being included in CyanogenMod's Trebuchet launcher. You can do a little research.

As does Nova.
I don't see much advantage in switching. Several good ROMs available for V500 and you get to keep your SD card support.

I believe it is the calendar and calculator right now.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
The new "material" is in calculator and calendar as skiman10 said, the keyboard, settings app and the notification drawer are part of the new "material" too. We all were expecting more of it but we'll have to wait until the final release. There are no new apps for download, and i dont think google will change the UI of all gapps like gmail, maps and so on.

It's a preview, the apps will come.
L is not stable at the moment. It's meant for devs to be able to work on their apps. Expects unrecoverable FC's etc.

All of which won't stop dozens of people who don't know how flashing "L" today will benefit them from flashing anyway. They're the same people who have an urgent need to root their devices without knowing why they should root their devices.
Expecting the inevitable flood of "I 'bricked' my Nexus after flashing to 'L'" threads...

Expecting such is fine and all, but I can personally confirm that everything I do is fine generally. Just 2 games that I barely play anyway don't work, but it's a small price to pay
Should also note I'm not a dev, yet anyway. I just like new things
