[Q] High Sensitivity Touchscreen Settings - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I used to use a Note 1 before and it had a touchscreen sensitivity setting in AOSP ROMS which enabled me to use floating touch like S4 and use pencil as stylus. I was fully expecting that to be on the Note 2, but was surprised it isn't there. Does anyone really know why this isn't implemented on Note 2 in AOSP roms? I'd be grateful if any devs can look into this.

Anyone?

Trackpad sensitivity

Hello there!
I've been using my Desire Z for a long time but found the trackpad pretty useless. This is because i found the sensitivity for it pretty low so if i want to scroll down on a page it's taking forever. I also noticed if i scroll using a piece of cloth (like my shirt) the scrolling is alot faster and usable. But it's not that nice using cloth all the time.
My girlfriend has just got an new phone the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro. It also has an optical trackpad which is alot faster and usable. Also in the settings there is an option to make the trackpad faster more sensitive.
Is there any kind of application or modification to make the trackpad faster sensitiver or so?
Please let me now .
Regards
Edit: whoops i forgot to add [Q] in the topics name and i have no idea how to edit this.
Finally a topic regarding this issue!
I noticed that using certain (mostly newer, modded - CM7 for example) ROMs, the trackpad responsivess is great.
However, recently I flashed to modded stock ROM (Virtuous G-Lite) and I also find the trackpad quite useless :/
Been searching the internet for reason or solution, but found nothing
Hope to find the answer!
So if the sensitivity differs in different ROMS it's editable in a file or so. So i think it would be possible for an smart developer to create an app that edit's the values in the file to change the sensitivity with a nice slider as GUI.
Hopes it will be there someday .
I could not agree more about the trackpad, it makes me want the responsiveness of my old G1 with the trackball (but that design is prone to fail because moisture/foreign objects can easily get underneath the ball).
Would love to see some sort of customization for trackpad sensitivity become mainstream for custom roms.
I've experienced the same problem with the following ROMs:
CM 7.1.0 Stable
Virtuous v2.0.0
Virtuous G-Lite 1.6
So it's happening on AOSP and Sense based ROMs.
Just flashed G2-Slim 1.2 (see my sig for link), which seems to be the same AOSP ROM as Virtuous G-lite, but the sensitivity responsiviness seems much better.
I have no idea how the hell can it be different..
Maybe different kernels affect this?
I'm also using the G-slim ROM for a couple of days now and besides I really like the ROM the trackpad is indeed faster. But still not as fast as I would like. Let's hope some dev. Check this thread out an can help us what makes the difference in sensitivity for the trackpad!
I remember before back on android 2.2 when using the trackpad through texts depending on how fast I swiped would determine how many letters or words it would move. But now especially with roms like cm7 no matter what it'll only move over 1 letter =/ a setting to adjust sensitivity in future roms would be amazing

That's exactly my problem! I don't want to move one letter if i like to i want to move 5 letters or scroll (fast) to the beginning with the trackpad. Just like it is on blackberry's or on the Samsung Galaxy Y PRO. My girlfriend get's the galaxy y pro on her birthday (27th of December) it runs gingerbread stock and has got an sensitivity option in the settings. Maybe i can break that functionality and put it in our phones. I don't know if it will work tho because the trackpad maybe differs. Still hoping a developer will look at this thread and help us out!

[Q] Best SPEN/Stock ROM?

Well I flashed my Note II before ever trying the SPEN out... I'd like to flash a ROM that supports the Samsung app store as well as the SPEN but I like some of the options that are offered in AOKP roms is there anything that is the best of both worlds or close?
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
Update: I found it!!
Hi all,
I think I've found my new all time favorite ROM and its stock!
The ROM is called: [ROM][2/15][N7105XXDMB3 ULTIMATE] Best International Stock ROM for i317 Variants
Located at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2016575
I like this ROM because of the following options:
- Custom Themes (the blue one is almost as nice as the Cobalt theme I was running on AOKP)
- S-Pen Support
- S-Note
- Samsung App's
- Dual Camera Apps (Samsung camera app and 4.2.1 Nexus camera with sphere mode)
- Call Recording (Baked in)
- Very nice installer (when flashing from a recovery)
- Tablet DPI (for split screen on email and settings also makes calendar show whats going on in month view rather than colored bars!)
- ~25 Toggles (for everything you could want imho better than 4.2.1's)
- Audio DSP's (EQ profiles)
- No Bluetooth bug like other custom ROM's!
- Every stock Samsung option is working (S-Beam, All-Share, One Handed Operation)
- ETC...
IMHO more options and settings than AOKP/CM/PA
This is just off the top of my head after using it for 2 days... Its a very impressive ROM to say the least I am also getting the best battery life yet! (~6hrs screen on 15hrs total) and that's heavy use Wi-Fi always on Bluetooth on GPS on and 3G when not connected to Wi-Fi)
I also did speed tests on my Nexus 4 using the same SIM at the same place and the N4 toped out around 4-6Mbps download and 1-1.2Mbps upload where has the Note II is getting 12-15Mbps down and 2-5Mbps up so why would i change to LTE? (these results were not a one day fluke thing it was a routine test over a week on both phones)
If anyone has tried this ROM and know of and even better more feature filled stock rom with s-pen support feel free to post below!

Most people will probably tell you to start trying them all out. Different people have different opinions and different views.
Current Devices: At&t Samsung Galaxy Note, Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Asus Google Nexus 7 Super Tablet
Current Roms: Skynote 7 (Note 2), AOKP (Galaxy Nexus), Nexus 7 Stock
I would start with CleanROM, gonna be as close to stock as possible.

Well from my experience, there is not a ROM that offers "the best of both", at least in regardsyou are looking for. The AOKP-ish rom that I tried, "JellyBam" still had the hover functionality of the SPen (without the hover marker), but not SNote, Quick Command, etc. I have never used the Samsung App Store, as it is redundant to me.
I am not sure what AOKP features that you are looking for in particular though.
All the roms here are solid. Just try them out and see which one you like.
OG Note ii running JDevil
I have cleanrom and only have lost the snote popup functionality that opens the actual app. I still get the standard snote popup so that i can write down a message if that makes any sense.

[Q] What is lost on a non-Samsung based ROM?

I used to install and tweak a new ROM almost every other week on my OG Evo 4G. Since I got a Verizon Galaxy Note 2, I've just kept it to Nova Launcher as my only "hack". I was looking at rooting and trying out some ROMs but I was wondering what functionality I would lose if I go with non-Samsung based ROMs like MIUI or AOKP (or whatever the latest fashion is).
Pen?
Pen hover cursor?
Multi-app functionality?
Etc...
You would lose all the touchwiz apps such as snote, smart rotation and smart stayon, Hover scroll and info, annoying touchwiz sounds and notifications, FM radio app, the ugly tw ui, and the excellent battery life.
With custom Aosp roms you would get 70percent of the battery life compared to touchwiz Rom, additional and easy modifications to the UI, faster and more fluid overall performance. The hover icon of the Spen can be enabled but you wouldn't get the same feedback when hovering over items in screen, as for the radio app you'll need to install 3rd party app such as Spirit Radio. These are just the few stuff you would gain I suggest you try it out.

Awesome thanks. I hardly use any S-Apps so that's not a big deal. Also, I charge every night but get 2 days worth of charge so battery life is fine by me. My big thing is when I'm doing a quick remote desktop connection for my job, I like to use the S-Pen to better hit small buttons and links on the screen. As long as that functionality is there (I know it's dependent on the ROM developer/port) I'm good to go.

Almost every aosp rom I've tried has the hover feature built in. I would suggest you try out Carbon Rom as its very stable and packed with a lot of neat features.

SM-P600 S-Pen and Lollipop question

Are there any of the Lollipop builds in which the S-Pen has functionality other than being just a regular stylus or pointing device?
First of all, the only function of the SPen is to work as a stylus(Active digitizer). Everything else is a rom feature/functionality implemented by an app, not the pen.
Answering your question; sadly, not completely:
- Even the acclaimed rayman cyangenmod cm12.1 still lacks pen functionalities as it doesn't recognizes the eraser on more professional wacom pens(even from Samsung ones dedicated to our tablet specifically).
- Temask Rom is doing a very good work adding some personalization to the possible pen gestures and behaviors but nothing as far as creating an stylus experience as Samsung does with all the apps Samsung brings to the table.
- As far as i know, only touchwiz based roms have those stylus dedicated apps you are searching for as part of the rom.
The thing is, installing Roms such as CM or Temask CM is done to get rid of the Samsung Touchwiz environment with all its gimicks and features. People that flash this kind of roms are searching for, at least for now, a nexus tablet that has a digitizer to draw/sketch. I get that some Samsung features are useful, but many of us think that the lot of them makes the device lagy and only a low percentage are worth it.
This said, there are only two options, your feature needs are covered by third party apps, which are very rare, or you have to stay with touchwiz based roms.
To give you a list of the third party apps that are available visit this thread:

Check if they cover your needs to see if changing roms is worth it for you. :good:
What we can hope for the feature:
If we can get an app on cyanogenmod source to add better API for the stylus(Attach/Detach Gestures, On/Off Digitizer, Hover+ButtonClick, Double Tap, Tap/Button Click, etc) developers would be able to make marvels out of it and make apps that compare and surpass Samsung implementation for features(Quicker, personalized and not making the device laggy); most importantly making it universal for any rom based on CM(Which are a lot). Currently we have CM SPen Addon: the downsides: you have to pay to get all the features and if you make an app out of it, the user would have to download 2 apps or more to make it work.
There is also a great project here in xda, beta status, that is trying to add some functionalities such as the action menu and screenshot noting. I dont know how it is going because i am not a beta tester of it but looks promising. The downside again, even if they do it incredibly well; the project doesn't add anything to the table for a "universal" API so it is not going to make more apps "pop up" for the device, you are stuck relying on them for more solutions. If anyone had the link, please post it.
I hope I took into perspective what non Touchwiz roms are at the moment, what they are going to be in the near future and what they can be if things play well. :good:
Thanks for all of the information. Definitely something to think about. The feature of the touchwiz roms that I use is the s-pen functionality. The rest of it I don't care for and I freeze as much as I can.

Yep, that i why i use cm. I would barely use touchwiz features and they would lag a lot when i did so i stopped using them. I changed to cm and i have never looked back. The only thing is that GPU is not optimized optimized at the moment so some things show graphical glitches and stuff. Don't know i that is going to get fixed soon, or ever for that matter. I use this tablet as a netflix-notebook machine and it works just fine.

There is also LiquidSmooth. It has the same S-Pen features as temasek ROM but it is based on Slim ROM which is very battery efficient. Only feature I miss from TW is multi window, but this is made better by the stylus gestures.

So pen presure sensitivity is not implied in such custom ROMS as it is in Touchwiz?
Pen accurate location detección on and over screen, tilt sensitivity and preassure sensitivity ranging from 1 to 0 are hardware-driver based. If the ROM got the drivers and your machine has the digitizer functioning correctly, it is going to work as well as it is intended to. Furthermore, your ROM could or could not implement OS-wide functions to make a better and seamless experience for you and complementing apps. And last but not least, your ROM(like touchwiz) could add unique apps to give a better or worse experience.
TL;DR: You can have a working spen without touchwiz.

Note 10.1 2014 rom port to note 8.0

Hi guys,
Did anyone heard about ported rom from Note 10.1 2014 edition to Note 8.0?
I love portability and handling of 8.0 so I won't to buy 10.1 as it is way too big.
Or at least any other good rom including Note 3 or Note 10.1 2014 software features. Now I own Note 8.0 and Note 3 phone so I want full software compatibility. Now I have different versions of S-Note apk so notes can't be trasferred.

I prefer a Tab4 port. Though i have done a bit of manual picking ported components to make my own customized RPM. The only thing I have as a gripe to customized ROMs is that even though they build on a stock base, they either don't bother with enabling hidden or disabled menus to allow some cool features stuck in various other models, but function on our stock ROMs with a little bit of adding libs or permissions. Like the Spen menu. I have had to install a Diamond ROM secsettings to enable colorblind, accessibility sharing, controls menu, and interaction control. Plus used a ported Neo ui and found it has a hidden feature within it to enable grey scale display in a hidden menu, by long pressing the power saving toggle.
