Built-in browser - corrupted files - LG Optimus G Pro

Every few days when using the OGP's built-in browser it spontaneously closes and I'm left with a message stating something about the browser having corrupted files. I cannot duplicate the issue. It just happens when it wants to.
Is there some way for me to re-install the built-in browser, or some way to check and replace files? I guess I could just set the phone back to factory stock and start over, but I've got too much mods and other stuff there to want to go through it all again.
So, is there a simple way to just fix the browser?

HTC Sense Messages Application??

My wife's EVO is getting really slow when using the stock Sense Messages Application. She has thousands of texts... I've tried everything to try to delete them but the application keeps crashing in the process. I've even gone to the Applications menu item to the Messages Application and cleared data. It told me that all the data would be erased. I went back into the application and they are all still there.
I need to get this thing cleared out... Why is it so difficult? How do I delete them?
I'm thinking my only option is to do a factory data reset. I've searched google and this forum and haven't found any answers but a lot of people with the same problems.
I'm getting scared cause she came from an iPhone and she's starting to regret it.
Mine crashed also, at least it wouldn't let me open pictures.
Just for giggles try downloading handcent from the market and see if it will let you delete the messages.

try "sms Manager" from the market.. works great on my evo..
OK, I figured it out. There must be a timer that the application uses which alerts to forceclose because the app is not responding. However if I hit "wait" over and over it will eventually delete what I want.
I don't know why it's taking so long to delete a thread of texts... A thread of just 200 texts can take like 5 min to delete.
that is AOSP/Android as a whole is glaringly terrible. IOS and even my BB curve could delete months of texts extremely faster with terrible os and hardware

I would definitely disagree with android being "terrible". This problem could be directly related to htc sense/messaging app, or who knows what. I highly doubt this is related to the OS itself. I guess I could be wrong though.
try it on any AOSP rom, pretty sure its a function of the OS, could be wrong

I have the same issue on my evo, but if I just wait it out it eventually deletes them. My friend has a hero and it took him 4 hours to delete several thousand texts...I'm curious why it takes so long.
Also I was terribly annoyed by how laggy the stock messaging was, so I tried handcent, and that was just as laggy. Then I tried chompsms and it runs a bit faster. Plus it's customizable so you can make it look however you want it to
If her phone is rooted you can use this option.
The fastest way to delete messages granted this will delete every message you have but it works.
use root explorer or
es file explorer and in the setting go to root options and have root explorer checked. ( you need to have a rooted phone to do this.
go to the root of the phone you will have many folders called data, sys, system, etc.
navigate to
data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
in that folder you will see a
mmssms.db
this has MMS and SMS. now you can delete it or move it to the SD Card just make it so its not in that directory any more.
Now reboot the phone and every text and pic mail will be gone as if you deleted it.
Hope this can help some of you.
On another note this can also be away for you to restore all your messages. just take the old mmssms.db file and replace it and reboot the phone and all your texts will be restored.
Reason why it take so long is because it has to rewrite a database when each text is deleted so lets say you have 3 texts this is what it will do.
delete the first text
write a new database
delete next text
write a new database
delete last text
write a new database
it does that to every text.
hope this helps someone if not you all.
enjoy.

WOW. Thank you for all that information. Completely makes sense.

built in facebook app wont update

The facebook app that came with the phone doesnt want to work. it was a good 2 weeks behind then I read to delete the "facebook" file in the main directory of the phone. did that reloaded and everything was fine could load photos again and everything but it seems its back again. Is something going on. is there a way to fix it other than putting a band aid over it ane continually deleting that file?
Bump. still having an issue with this.
We have the same issue. Any thoughts on this?

Default application misbehavior

Because I googled almos everything now, I have to ask here.
Did anyone have a problem with constantly apearing question about which application would like you to use even when you checked "always" about hundred times before?
It seems to happen every time but some cases when you do something again and again. When you stop, wait a while or do something else and then do the same again, you will be prompted again which application to use.
it makes me CRAZY!!! It lasts about a month and I HATE MY PHONE because of this. Imagine this while driving! %^&*$
Anyone, please help me.
I'm running LeeDroid 3.3.3 GingerBread (stable one) and it seems not connected to the system coz it started much later than flashing occured. I suppose that one of installed apps could break something or even the bloody market (it often "stucks" while getting pages - reboot makes it working again - and I have no problems with network - nope).
Noone knows anything about it?
If you've installed a new app which does the same thing as an app you already had, you'll have to reset the defaults again (e.g. if you install Opera browser, you'll have to choose which browser to use the first time you click a link from any app (i.e. the first link you click from the browser, the first link you click from within an email, the first link you click from within Tweetdeck, the first link you click from the search tool, the first link you click from a text message, the first... you get the idea). But once you've selected 'Always' that default should persist until you clear defaults/uninstall the app/install another app that has the same functions.
However, a brief moment spent Googling has led to the suggestion that defaults only persist where the app is stored on the phone memory. Have you moved the apps in question to your SD card by any chance? Try moving them back and see if that helps.

Exactly. And that's what i need to achieve. Mine "always" is ignored almost always.

Did not moved any of them, I like them in the phone memory as long, as it's only 55% full yet.
I suppose the problem is in storing the default. Something resets it or storage isn't available in time I'm making decision. But WHY? Or HOW? I cannot even guess, because I don't know specifics about storing default programs values... where or how they are stored.

I am not sure what file it is either but it sounds like the file gets corrupted so it reverts to a default. This can be caused from restoring system files, not doing a full wipe before flashing, a corrupted rom flash and backup, and like you said an app resetting it. So many things ciuld have gone wrong. I would try and start from a clean base. It may be a long road but it is the only 100% way to find it for sure.

How about additional info: application called "Home Switcher" which is supposed to know either default and possibilities, displays possibilities but claims that there is no default set at all!
I think that you have right that many things may be broken, but I'm almost sure that if it's somewhere in database file then only this database file needs a "reset". Why? Because I run this system daily and I'm almost sure that nothing in global is broken. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
So, any informations how default apps are stored on the system would help.
Great, no help at all. I suppose I will have to flash new rom to get rid of this another google sh*t.

Stock ICS Browser deleting bookmarks...

Hi all, I'm running the stock ICS browser on my phone, as per this thread. Generally it works fine, beautiful; love the ICS browser over the TouchWiz one.
One weird thing though, ... if my phone powers down due to low battery, then the browser deletes all my Google bookmarks (deleting them also from my other devices), and then loses its link to my Google account. Then when I power back up I have to go through hoops to get it associated to my account again, and then recreate all my bookmarks.
Weirder still, this ONLY happens when the phone powers off from low battery. If I reboot the phone manually, this does NOT happen.
Anyone experienced similar things, or have any idea why this might happen or how I might fix it?
Thanks!
Holy crap thast weird. Use ICS browser + from the play store or better yet use chrome

constantly downloading file after 4.3 OTA update

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
I have stock Sprint Samsung Galaxy SIII
I got the Android 4.3 OTA over the weekend, ever since in my notification bar it constantly shows Download Complete of file
photo-jul-23-1-08-10-pm.jpg
if I clear the notification it will come back with a new timestamp. if I leave it, the timestamp will change.
I used ES File Explorer and the file is nowhere to be found. If I try to open it from the notification bar I get a media not found error and it disappears for a while, then comes back with a new timestamp.
Does not seem to have an ill effect on the phone, no shortened battery life or anything. just puzzling
Constant download of old files after 4.3 update
I too am having an issue with the repetitive downloading of files. Two of the files are old voicemails, and one other is an mp4 attachment from an old email. I will try deleting the voicemails via the voicemail app and see if that resolves those being downloaded and report back. For the other, I'd rather not delete it, but don't know how to stop it from downloading, (or if it is truly actually downloading, but an errant status that it has downloaded).
Try this
I was having the same issue after my OTA upgrade last night. I cleared my download history from the stock Downloads app/icon and restarted. That seems to have fixed it for me.

well "knock on wood" that seems to have done the trick for me also. have no idea where that file came from or what it was though..
probably my winning lottery ticket...
Thanks for posting this. I was having the same trouble and clearing the history seemed to fix it as well. :good:

I've noticed things like that happen when you try and force the update (clear data and force stop google services framework) it happened to me with the md4 update and i cleared the download history (and hard reset because im not a fan of ota updates)
