Hi all, I'm running the stock ICS browser on my phone, as per this thread. Generally it works fine, beautiful; love the ICS browser over the TouchWiz one.
One weird thing though, ... if my phone powers down due to low battery, then the browser deletes all my Google bookmarks (deleting them also from my other devices), and then loses its link to my Google account. Then when I power back up I have to go through hoops to get it associated to my account again, and then recreate all my bookmarks.
Weirder still, this ONLY happens when the phone powers off from low battery. If I reboot the phone manually, this does NOT happen.
Anyone experienced similar things, or have any idea why this might happen or how I might fix it?
Thanks!
Holy crap thast weird. Use ICS browser + from the play store or better yet use chrome

Ok, I know this has nothing to do with the Epic Touch but I value all of your opinions about technology stuff.
I recently switched my primary email to be my Gmail account and since I did that I was going to try using pretty much all of Google's products since it makes things very streamlined.
In doing so, I switched from Firefox to Chrome on my computers. It's a great browser: love the themes, controls, add-ons; pretty much everything (especially once chrome on android gets ironed out and bookmarks, tabs, etc. are fluid between desktop and devices).
Unfortunately, there's a major kink in the armor I've found since starting to use Chrome. Google's own websites are acting wonky! Not all of them, but Google search & Google maps (two I use constantly for work) are acting erratically. See screenshot attached as far as the search problem. Maps is just really, really unreliable and slow. It will take 10-20 tries to get it to find an address, if it ever does. I'll open Firefox and it will find it the very first time, very quickly...same with the google search. It never shows the page I screenshot and is very quick and reliable on FF.
I'm confused and just looking for some insight from ya'll smart mofos.
Is it just those two sites, or are other Google sites affected as well?
Make sure you're using the Stable release of Chrome. (Settings -> About Google Chrome and make sure dev or beta is not after the version number.)
Have you tried swapping out your DNS servers? I tend to use Google's DNS servers. http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ (Let me know if you can;t get to that, lol.)
Something might be messed up in your registry.
I had to change to Google Chrome from Firefox about 6 months ago because the Reg was all messed up and causing Firefox not to play any video, and a few other things. Yet when I started Chrome everything worked. Instead of trying to figure it out I just kept using Chrome. Haven't had any problems since. Although you may be using a Beta version also and don't even know it.
It took me awhile to find a decent program for checking the reg, so I would do a search on www.download.com for registry or registry checker.
ps I hate it when cheerios goes down the wrong side of your throat. cough cough cough
Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I downloaded CCleaner and that got rid of a bunch of stuff, helped with google search a lot. Maps is still sucky though, but I am considering trying out the DNS suggestion at home first as a guinea pig then here at my office pc. I'll let you know what comes of it.
I'm having a problem getting to cyanogen mod Nightlies as well. Those pages just won't load! IE9 would find. Also AVG keeps blocking those sites and wont let me unblock them!
I use chrome as well, and sometimes when i go to fb, chrome wont load the feed. then i reload and it works. this happened on every fb page i would go to. go to firefox or IE and it al worked fine so i knew it was on Chromes side, maybe the way the script was wrote. anyways, this did this for about 2 months. i kinda got used to it. but then it updated and it doesnt do it anymore. BUT, since i installed linux and chrome for linux, now the chrome on linux does it again. was wondering if anyone else had this problem. i know this is about google services not working right, thought i would throw that out there. dont know if it will help or not (leaning towards the not). just my 2 cents.
After installing OTA 4.2.1 update, andriod browser closes frequently. There is no dump option. Occurs intermittantly on multipe sites, not associated with specific actions. Will occasionally reoccur when page reloads on app restart. Almost like the home button is pushed.
Also noticing skewed text when scrolling. Maybe related to images on the page? It will be a rectangle of streched text occupying less than the whole column width. I'll post an image, if possible.
Anyone else experience this soft crash issue issue? Could it be related to the static nav buttons (which I do not like)?
Tried freeing up memory, to no avail. Thinking of trying a factory reset next; if I can figure out how to get the 5G of Fast Burst photos off the dang thing...
Thanks in advance!

It seems that is enough disable the JavaScript in the browser options
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It's not only the stock browser.
The backtrace suggests the problem may be in
Code:
/system/lib/libchromium_net.so (net::HttpCache::Transaction::DoCacheReadData()+151
Since it is a segfault in WebViewCore it will appear in every app that uses it, including the stock browser and dolphin.
The bug appears on multiple devices, and also on JB 4.1:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40784
resolved..more or less
Thanks for the good information. Did not find anything about this in the mainstream media. Wonder how widespread, and if not for most, then what the difference is: build, app install, Google account settings, or something...
Unchecking "Enable JavaScript" under Browser Settings\Advanced seems to have solved this issue. Facebook mobile pages do not load *tear* Gmail also fails w/o java. That's a deal-breaker for me, as I use browser for some email tasks.
Using Chrome as second browser works, but having history, bookmarks in two places and two running apps/caches is not ideal. I would switch to Chrome, but I'd miss some of the Browser features, like save for offline reading feature.
Also no longer noticing the text rendering issue and the browsing seems snappier.
Every few days when using the OGP's built-in browser it spontaneously closes and I'm left with a message stating something about the browser having corrupted files. I cannot duplicate the issue. It just happens when it wants to.
Is there some way for me to re-install the built-in browser, or some way to check and replace files? I guess I could just set the phone back to factory stock and start over, but I've got too much mods and other stuff there to want to go through it all again.
So, is there a simple way to just fix the browser?
Is anyone else's contacts app excruciatingly slow? I find that I will touch the icon, then wait almost 5 seconds before thinking that I must've not hit it the first time so I hit it again, only to find that I'm now accidentally calling the last contact I viewed. This has happened since I got my XL in December, on both stock and Pure Nexus while I was using that, and now again while on stock 7.1.2.
Mine is buttery smooth and quick even when I clear it out of recent apps. Stock 7.1.2 no root not unlocked.

Occasionally mine seems smooth, but more often it will sit for between 3 and t seconds before it will open. It's extremely frustrating.
I am having the same issue in accessing my Google calendar. I've tried clearing data & clearing cache then rebooting the phone
(Something you should try Neilrl79) but my problem never goes away. it might clear up the slow issue for like 5 minutes but the problem comes back again! Very frustrating!!
I've since downloaded another calendar and the issue goes away (while i use the different calendar)

yyyeeeessssss... me too! I was going to say similiar problem with google calendar for me.
Maybe we should start a Google Calendar thread?
I've tried uninstalling and i even wiped my phone ( As well as clearing the cache & data). All no good because the problem always comes back!
Contacts and Google Calendar are lightning fast here. Maybe it has to do with the amount of contacts or events you have? Around 110 contacts here, most with pictures synced from Facebook or Google Photos.
Setup is in my signature.
@murphdsurf I've tried the same things.. I do not understand at all.
Right now I'm going through my calendar and deleting old stuff to see if that helps?
Same here
I have the same issue - very slow contacts. Slow to load, slow to search and also very slow to save a new contact. I hit save on a contact and it takes 5-10 seconds to register the tap and save the contact. I do have ~1600 contacts but have always had loads and my previous Android phones worked fine so I can't imagine that a Pixel XL shouldn't be able to cope!
Is anyone having issues with some apps getting pushed back to defaults.
Examples of this is when using Samsung browser(which is stock) every few days my home page reverts back to google as my home page
I also use Verizon's messenger, I set a back ground and change the text bubble colors and shapes and a few days later they revert back to default, it's driving me crazy. I exchanged my phone due to a faulty charging port and this is happening again on this one. Please notice if this is happening to you, I thinking it's an OS issue but it's really hard to tell. Thanks for any input into this issue.
So this happened to me on 2 different A50 phone, you telling me this is not happening to anyone else ?
well what can I say but, keep an eye on your Samsung browser home page if you don't use the google.com default. I'm sure it's not only me this is happening to

This was happening on android 9, now I got the android 10 update and the same thing happens on android 10. I use the Samsung browser and every other day my home page default changes back to Google. Com, this has been happening since the first day i used the phone. Is this happening to anyone else. I am gonna try using firefox to see if this still happens. Let me know if you are experiencing this. Thanks
Just use firefox or chrome

have you updated the apps?
I received the android 10 update, updated all apps. I am on the stock android 10 there should be no reason my Samsung browser should change my custom homepage back to Google default every 2 days or so.. There should be no reason to use chrome or firefox, i am using the default browser. This is the second A50 I have owned since September and they both did the same thing. I have a Samsung tablet also without this issue. So what's causing it any ideas? This is just Google embedding itself into every facet of our lives, Google, facebook, Twitter it's slowly taking over everything including sensoring everything that don't meet their political agenda... think about it. Social media is ruining our country. Thanks for your replies.
"This is because the browser default page and/or the bookmarks can be made persistent by the vendor configuration in the ROM. Unfortunately without rooting and tampering with the XML file, I am not sure how to fix this aside from using an alternate browser. "

Thank you, then why give the option to change it to your "custom" home page. Don't make sense, yea i use to root every device I had haven't in a while been very careful not to brick my devices. Not sure if i can with the 505u from Xfinity
