[Q] Stock browser issues after 4.2.1 Update - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

After installing OTA 4.2.1 update, andriod browser closes frequently. There is no dump option. Occurs intermittantly on multipe sites, not associated with specific actions. Will occasionally reoccur when page reloads on app restart. Almost like the home button is pushed.
Also noticing skewed text when scrolling. Maybe related to images on the page? It will be a rectangle of streched text occupying less than the whole column width. I'll post an image, if possible.
Anyone else experience this soft crash issue issue? Could it be related to the static nav buttons (which I do not like)?
Tried freeing up memory, to no avail. Thinking of trying a factory reset next; if I can figure out how to get the 5G of Fast Burst photos off the dang thing...
Thanks in advance!

It seems that is enough disable the JavaScript in the browser options
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

It's not only the stock browser.
The backtrace suggests the problem may be in
Code:
/system/lib/libchromium_net.so (net::HttpCache::Transaction::DoCacheReadData()+151
Since it is a segfault in WebViewCore it will appear in every app that uses it, including the stock browser and dolphin.

The bug appears on multiple devices, and also on JB 4.1:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40784

resolved..more or less
Thanks for the good information. Did not find anything about this in the mainstream media. Wonder how widespread, and if not for most, then what the difference is: build, app install, Google account settings, or something...
Unchecking "Enable JavaScript" under Browser Settings\Advanced seems to have solved this issue. Facebook mobile pages do not load *tear* Gmail also fails w/o java. That's a deal-breaker for me, as I use browser for some email tasks.
Using Chrome as second browser works, but having history, bookmarks in two places and two running apps/caches is not ideal. I would switch to Chrome, but I'd miss some of the Browser features, like save for offline reading feature.
Also no longer noticing the text rendering issue and the browsing seems snappier.

Facebook pictures

I have the new facebook app but for some reason i dont see any pictures, just gray squares, this happens on both the app and the stock browser and dolphin browser.
I have cleared Data and Cache, and it helped a little bit, i now can see the persons default pic but as for photos they have posted i still get gray squares.
does any one else have this issue? or know how to fix it?
No one else has this problem?

Everything is working fine on my phone, and I haven't seen any other reports of it. I suppose you could try re-installing the FB app, but if it's happening in the browser too, the issue probably lies elsewhere.
Do a full re-install of your ROM? It's silly for an issue like this, but I imagine the problem will be difficult to pinpoint.
Sometimes it's actually just the connection. Sometimes my 3G won't load the pics, and switching to WiFi immediately fixes it. Just my connection probably.
yea thats what i am thinking aswell... my signal has been really really slow latley

JB browser default zoom bug - HELP! :(

Hi guys,
I'm running stock 4.1.1 on unrooted, unmolested phone. The problem I am having is that the default browser resets to default zoom of "medium" on every page I go to. I can change it to far, which fixes that page I'm on, but the next page I go to renders in medium. Note that to experience this problem you need to visit a mobile site or just disable the "open pages in overview." This problem is highly annoying due to the gigantic text and images.
So, for example, I open browser and my homepage opens in medium zoom. So, if I got into settings and change it to "far" it then corrects itself and rendersthe page in 'far' mode. BUT, when I then go to any other page it displays it in medium zoom mode again. Everything becomes comparatively giant. If I goto the setting menu it still reports that 'far' mode is selected but the page is shown in medium. To change that page to 'far' I need to go into settings, select medium then go press 'back' 'back' so that I see the page, which hasn't changed because it was rendered in medium anyways. Then I need to go back into settings and select far, at which point it will render that page properly. Then, it resets again to medium when I go to the next page.
Does anyone else have this problem? I performed a factory reset today in hopes that it would fix this, but it does not.
How do I fix this without rooting or using another browser?
Any help would be appreciated, even if you could confirm that your GN doesn't have this problem.
I just unlocked my bootloader, wiped everything, reflashed everything and used a 4.0.4 factory image. ZOOM is fixed!!!
Then, I immediately get an OTA update for 4.1.1. Install the update. Now my zoom is broken again.
How can this not be a widespread problem? Why would the same bug happen to me twice?
Ran:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
Then, followed the instructions here for manual flash for everything: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777266
No apps are installed.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'll confirm the bug, on JB 4.1.1.
It's probably not widespread because few people use that feature... I suggest filing a bug report over at Google.

JavaScript is all screwed for me since the 4.1.1 update... i get an Orange highlight box come up over anything selected, i can't add text to text boxes and i cannot check tick boxes... disabling JavaScript fixes the problem but useless when the site requires JavaScript to load! ffs it worked fine in ics

I submitted the bug to Google which was extremely easy to do. Apparently its been assigned to someone to fix.
Disabling enhanced web accessibility in settings - accessibility also fixes the problem, i can have javascript enabled now

Stock ICS Browser deleting bookmarks...

Hi all, I'm running the stock ICS browser on my phone, as per this thread. Generally it works fine, beautiful; love the ICS browser over the TouchWiz one.
One weird thing though, ... if my phone powers down due to low battery, then the browser deletes all my Google bookmarks (deleting them also from my other devices), and then loses its link to my Google account. Then when I power back up I have to go through hoops to get it associated to my account again, and then recreate all my bookmarks.
Weirder still, this ONLY happens when the phone powers off from low battery. If I reboot the phone manually, this does NOT happen.
Anyone experienced similar things, or have any idea why this might happen or how I might fix it?
Thanks!
Holy crap thast weird. Use ICS browser + from the play store or better yet use chrome

Chrome / not remembering browser

Hey
Every time I open a web link the tab s keeps asking me to select which browser I wish to use even when I tell it to remember my selection, it doesn't.
I've installed the chrome samsung app but did nothing.
Seems to do it on both beta and the standard app.
Any ideas?
I think I saw that happen on a new tab s 10.5. If I can remember correctly it only happened when the browser was being launched from specific apps. This is on my sister's tablet which I was showing her how to use so I can't retest, sorry. I only noted the odd interaction because it happened that the browser was the first time that the dialogue with "Always" came up and we chose always for Chrome but it came up a second time and my sister asked why?
A theory is that multiple URL extensions ".html" and ".htm" and a variety of others (e.g. Streaming extensions) may all need to be added to the default app list. That is just a theory.

no as even if I go back to the original web link and click it a second time, its still asking which browser to use and whether I can to set as 'default' or 'use just once'.
After seeing a device on display in a shop, which didnt do this, I determined my device must have been fault so they exchanged it.
However the new one is doing exactly the same...!
Is no one else with a tab s having this issue?
I'm still having this issue.
It is not just chrome browser but any app where different options are available. On my other devices you can select which one to use as default or use an an 'just once'.
I fear my tablet has alzheimers.
Found it woo hoo. ...After 2 hours taking off app by app, it national express UK, anyone else having this problem try removing an app at a time after a factory reset. They've been informed!

A50 changes some apps back to defaults

Is anyone having issues with some apps getting pushed back to defaults.
Examples of this is when using Samsung browser(which is stock) every few days my home page reverts back to google as my home page
I also use Verizon's messenger, I set a back ground and change the text bubble colors and shapes and a few days later they revert back to default, it's driving me crazy. I exchanged my phone due to a faulty charging port and this is happening again on this one. Please notice if this is happening to you, I thinking it's an OS issue but it's really hard to tell. Thanks for any input into this issue.
So this happened to me on 2 different A50 phone, you telling me this is not happening to anyone else ?
well what can I say but, keep an eye on your Samsung browser home page if you don't use the google.com default. I'm sure it's not only me this is happening to

This was happening on android 9, now I got the android 10 update and the same thing happens on android 10. I use the Samsung browser and every other day my home page default changes back to Google. Com, this has been happening since the first day i used the phone. Is this happening to anyone else. I am gonna try using firefox to see if this still happens. Let me know if you are experiencing this. Thanks
Just use firefox or chrome

have you updated the apps?
I received the android 10 update, updated all apps. I am on the stock android 10 there should be no reason my Samsung browser should change my custom homepage back to Google default every 2 days or so.. There should be no reason to use chrome or firefox, i am using the default browser. This is the second A50 I have owned since September and they both did the same thing. I have a Samsung tablet also without this issue. So what's causing it any ideas? This is just Google embedding itself into every facet of our lives, Google, facebook, Twitter it's slowly taking over everything including sensoring everything that don't meet their political agenda... think about it. Social media is ruining our country. Thanks for your replies.
"This is because the browser default page and/or the bookmarks can be made persistent by the vendor configuration in the ROM. Unfortunately without rooting and tampering with the XML file, I am not sure how to fix this aside from using an alternate browser. "
