Hi.
I bought an tpu case for my new Nokia 1020 and it was really slack, so i searched for any way to tighten it up and found this video on youtube, and i followed it, i used 30 seconds in the boiling water and then into cold water and now my tpu case fits great
Be very careful with boiling water, i take no responsibility if you burn yourself.

SO,
I could take the peeling paint no longer, so I "fixed" it. Or at least I thought I had.
I took apart the unit, very timidly; everything came off but the buttons and what not. I used an old drywall (worn down) sponge, and kept it wet, sanding carefully. Cleaned often as I went, and wasn't too worried about surface scratches, as I was about to paint it.
BTW, the gold finish under that non slip coating is actually quite imressive.
Anyway, only the most advanced techniques, tools, and paint were used. See for yourself...
and yes, that is a roll of toilet paper!!!
Two days later, the rubber started to peel off. I used "Plasti-Dip" spray paint. I thought a rubber grip might be nice, since I work construction, and black is just plain cool. I tested the tool grip paint on a nokia 3595 dummy, and now I just can't get that **** off of it. I thought it would stick to my wallaby. Apparently, not. I used my fingernail to peel off a wear hole caused by my Al case, and just peeled off the rubber in a few large pieces. Anyway, I'm going to check into good primers soon. I think that the noslip coating that flakes off our units isn't the problem, but the foil finnish that just won't let anything adhere. Anyway, If you have a suggestion or comment, fire away. And sorry, the only digicams i have are a Sony T610 and a V300....
Thanks!
So I got bored the other nite and remembered a idea about shrinking silicone cases to make them fit better.
I gave it a try with a old otterbox commuter and got some amazing results.
All I did was
1. Throw the silicone in boiling water fully submerged for around 4 minutes but I think I should of done 3 minutes but I got lucky with 4.
2. Remove it and let it cool for a few minutes.
3. Dry it then wrap it around the OneX.
So after the boiling process the corners were amazingly snug and better than when it was new.
But here came the surprise, i removed the silicone and started rubbing the corners for grazes that have been there for a while, the silicone was wearing off. I rubbed all four corners down and eventually the residue stopped, it was like rubbing dead skin off. So guess what, brand new layer of silicone!
After that I washed the silicone in tap water and let it sit overnite. Used it the next day and it has been lookin new since.
The external caseing still fits great but a little teasing the first time to get it to form. I teased it right after I put the silicone on the OneX after the boiling process.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Hi all - what's the best way to clean the leather stitching at the back without damaging the leather skin and the stitching? I had placed this on top of a wet table earlier and now it's not looking to good. :cyclops:

What is it you're trying to clean off? I use alcohol swabs a couple times a day on my phone front and back and have for every phone in the past several years. I am a germaphobe though. It works really well. Never damaged anything before. I am sure it's not great for the leather, but I'll worry about that if I see any damage then.
I would not use alcohol, especially rubbing alcohol. (there are numerous different types of alcohol). Rubbing alcohol will dry out and crack the leather it may not happen right away but it will happen if used frequently. By the time you start to see any damage it will be too late. If you have a serious stain and are dead set in using alcohol buy some isopropyl alcohol and do a 50/50 mix of that and water.
I would use leather cleaner and moisturizer. My wife has been using Coach products on her leather Coach purses for years and her purses that are 20 years old still look like new:

I would also stay away from leather car seat cleaner as car seats are a bit more rugged than the leather used on the phones. (the only car seat product I would consider using is Leatherique, but it is insanely expensive).
Just my $.02 worth
I tend to be rough on my mobile devices, generally.
My old LG Optimus V is incredibly tough. It's survived everything I've dealt it from four foot drops to cement (battery flies out) to face-down falls from lap in car on gravel (scratched screen protector) to dunked in my cup of coffee (took apart, dried out, cleaned contacts, it now randomly loses touch with the vfat partition.)
I read the cases thread and Googled for a while but couldn't find a waterproof or otherwise supertough case to fit this toy.
Does anyone care to relate experiences, plus or minus, about drops, dunks, skids, kids, crushing, etc? I'd enjoy hearing about incidents and results.

Yeah , not a lot of cases for this phone so I went with a generic Amazon site hard rubber minimal case, no top or bottom cover but sides lipped up to give the screen some chance in a drop but what I did do is spend more then what I spent on the case and got that German companies glass screen protector. Can't think of the name off the top of my head so I'll just call it"expensive" for now since it cost twice what my case did.
As for drops I drop it all the time and it's fine but not on concrete yet so not a good judge there. I think it would do ok with this case but if it landed screen down I'm pretty sure the screen protector would catch some gravel with that thin lip and crack but that's why I got it. I just got tired of big bulky cases that I used to get on my older phones, 2 and 3 pieces, and finally just said "to hell with it" and went minimal mostly due to this bigger screen but I understand wanting the extra protection.
Thanks, good info. Like to hear it can bounce.
First thing I bought with this device was a tempered glass screen protector.
I found mention in the cases thread that the iphone6+ is a close fit dimensionally, found a $5 hard rubber Duracell case for the iphone6+ (only issue, misplaced power button) that I'm using until I can find (or hopefully print, soon) a waterproof case that actually fits.
Alright, after months of trying to nail this problem down I finally have a good solution!
I've tried a few different cases on my fold3 and none of them really held well on the top screen when folded and in my pocket. It would start sliding off. So I finally have a solution. Get yourself some good double sided tape (I suggest some type of 3m tape This for example) and measure you a piece of tape that is length of the case that touches the phone that isn't on the screen. Then take a sharp knife and cut a very thin strip of tape. Put that strip on your case and then put the case on the phone. Press hard and hold it there for a bit and then BAM it's not going anywhere again. If it's done right it will not be noticable (see pics I've attached) unless you look closely it's really clean and nice looking to me.
In the pictures you can see the black strip of tape that came with the case that wasn't super useful but what useful was my piece of tape.
I have been lucky in that my cases have not had this issue, but I agree, if you need too, there is no shame in using tape to keep this thing protected.
Just use good quality stuff.
This is the stuff I have and I LOVE IT... https://smile.amazon.com/25Meter-Double-Adhesive-Display-Housing/dp/B071D5CKCX
Good solution, just easy.
Unfortunetly fold series and other folded devices need specially cover.
I have fold 2 1,5 year and few covers:
Ringke slim. Good cover but even pieces of double tape after take off i saw particles of dust and sand.
Next i bought Spigen armor pro. Great protection but a lot of bulky and even mount with force for good fit after few weeks and take off i saw few white dots on the frame from probably few particles sand.
It was little frustrating because I always to take care my devices and carry without any other stuff in my pocket.
4 days ago i told "stop" covers with use tape for hold on the device.
Without case fold is really beautifull and touch metal in every time is really pleasant .
I read topics on reddit about "caseless fold devices" and a lot of people have enjoy use folds without case.
After that I use my device only with original leather back cover, without front cover.
Admittedly 2 days ago drop my fold from pocket on the floor. It drop edge front frame but after that is only scratch and rest device survive well
I have béen using a dab of clear silicone sealant. Holds well, and comes off by rubbing it with a cloth.
After a few months of searching, I just gave up and use whichever is the slimmest case without an adhesive. It made more than a few scratches on the side of my screen and I just decided not to give a crap about it, it doesn't go over the main screen anyway.
