[Q] Galaxy Nexus Nexus MHL - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi there, I bought an MHL cable from Ebay and was trying to connect the phone with TV. I have connected the power cord and did all the setup as required. The phone was charging, but the TV was just showing 'No Signal' as it was not detecting the phone. The adapter looks like a Chinese import at 8$. I tried many suggestion as people have posted here including the connection order of TV, Phone etc and but with no luck. Can someone please help me out here? GNexus is not officially launched in India, but S2 is. So do you think buying the original Samsung S2 adapter will work for Nexus? Thanks in advance!

I have no luck with MHL on this phone. Broken on 99% if not 100% of custom ROM and kernels. Every time I sought support for it I was just told to "use stock ROM and kernel"
Even on doing that my screen glitches and boom. Reboot. Bootloops until I unplug it. I wish you good luck and if you figure out how to get it working, shoot me a pm

MHL cuts off the WIFI and Phone signal

hi.
i just got a MHL cable for my SGS2
when i plugged it to my tv, it cuts of the wifi and the phone signal... so i can't receive calls or surf the internet ...
i tried two different phones with different roms and different kernels and got the same result...
anyone had this problem and knows how to use MHL and have WIFI and phone signal?
thanks
What cable? Samsung's or generic?
Have you tried this on stock unrooted or rooted firmware?

i tried custom roms...
one of them is 2.3.5 and the other one is 2.3.4
the two devices are rooted
I have the OEM Samsung adapter and it used to make my phone do the same thing. I sold the phone ans ended up buying another one and the second phone works perfect with it.
I am running the leomar75 rom with the ragemod 1.1b kernel
so you say this is a problem with the device itself?
I also have a generic adapter but mine works for a few seconds and then blank.....not supported. sometimes it gives green screen on my tv. I've tried on stock and custom roms. If it's the phone than it should be addressed t Samsung.
update:
I have to put my phone in offline mode to be able to use it.....
i tried the same cable on other tv...
on the other tv the phone signal stayed on (and i even received a call without any problem) but i still had no WIFI...
maybe its important, but i tried the other tv away from home..
at my home the phone signal is weak all the time
i have a stock phone w/ generic POWERED mhl cable and the wifi cuts off when plugged in. wth?
still no fix for this issue?? i just got a MHL cable yesterday and is really annoying
I called samsung and they said that it is designed to cut off wifi. it may look like u r still connected, but u will be unable to surf the net. they said the reason this was done was to prevent fickering of the video if you were browsing the net or something.
so ,there's no hope than MHL work with wifi?

dont ask me. call samsung. just telling u what they told me. the way it is designed wifi is shut off when mhl cables are used.
would be interesting to see if anyone got wifi to work w/ mhl plugged in.

I have had WIFI working with MHL connected for months. I've could surf the web AND stream flash videos in a room with GPRS coverage ONLY (which rules out the "you were surfing through packet data" variable) while connected to my Samsung HD plasma with no problems.
So I certainly have no idea what your Sammy rep was talking about.
BTW, I'm using the official, korean spec MHL cables I got from ExportPrive. But I'm positive it should work the same with the international MHL cables.
Bought a non Samsung MHL cable today and it worked perfectly fine, it even worked when providing power via a microUSB cable connected from a spare USB socket in my nearby router.
Another user on a forum I frequent has similar issues with WiFi dropping and had this solution:

Another OcUK user
My MHL problem is fixed now, i tested it for 15 minutes and wifi and gsm signal were fine
I was just about to post it in this thread and then saw your post haha
IF anyone decides to mess about with chargers/adapters with higher currents then do it at your own risk and read up if its ok to do so with your phone etc..!
I try with my nokia N900 charger and still nothing, I'm using the official MHL cable

Rom/kernel issue?
I'm using a Nokia AC10X (1200ma charger) + original MHL cable + Siyah 2.1rc2 (at that time, now running 2.1.1) + VR2.4.2 (don't ask) = no connection issues what so ever while in HDMI out.
Either that or it's a hardware problem with the cable or your phone.

Galaxy Nexus Charging Issues

Hi everyone,
I'm just trying to get a gauge on how prolific this issue is/if anyone has found a solution. I am on my second Galaxy Nexus, and both devices, just over a week after getting them, have developed an issue where the phone will not charge or will not be recognized via USB. I have a tried a range of different solutions. from reboot, to battery pull,to trying different chargers/cables, to resetting battery stats in Clockwork Recovery to no avail.
I absolutely love this phone and don't want any phone BUT the Galaxy Nexus, but it sucks that there's this issue. Both devices have been yakjuux devices flashed to yakju for direct updates from Google.
Who else is having this problem, if you have had it, how long did onset take, and have you found any solutions? I've googled the **** out of this problem and have only been able to find a small number of forums with greatly varying responses on how to fix it (none of which have worked for me).
In the meantime, I have luckily been able to get a refund from the retailer I purchased through on Amazon. I would love to get another GN, but won't do so until I see some reason this is happening (Samsung is denying that there's a problem) or a way to fix it should it happen again.
Funny thing happened to me as well. There are certain chargers that will not work with this phone. I'm assuming that you are using the one that came with the phone and not another. I tried to use a charger and cable from my old Captivate and it would not charge.
This really seems to be a recurring issue on the GN. See http://code.google.com/p/android/is...ary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=23789#makechanges
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23319813
I had the same problem happen as well after a few weeks, and it seems to be a USB charging port defect. (Replacing it fixed it)
So, ALOT of people have seen this, but Samsung has yet to respond to this. The QA at Samsung have done a really bad job at this..
Please comment or star on the Google Issue tracker.
Thanks for the links to the other sites. It sucks that no one is taking responsibility or offering solutions for those affected by this, but I guess I'll keep an eye out and hope that some resolution is found quickly. In the meantime, I'll be using my mom's old iPhone 3GS. =/
I had this issue with my gnex not being recognized when connected via USB since day ONE. I ended up using another USB cable and now it works (a blackberry USB cable) its kinda sad actually.

Rebooting when MHL is Connected [Docomo SC-04D]

I first bought the Samsung brand MHL adapter, and the moment i plugged it into the phone, it simply reboot without displaying anything on the TV. I figured it might be the adapter, so I returned it and bought a 3rd party Menotek adapter only to find the same problem.
The power cable is connected to the adapter, and the adapter to the phone and HDMI cable. I even tried a different power cable, and wall charger and same problem occurs.
Is this a problem with anyone else, one that has a fix? If not I might have to exchange my phone, since this is a feature I really wanted.
Could it be perhaps that the Docomo (Japanese) version uses different electric current that it has to convert, but the adapter can't convert?
i have the exact same problem.
at first i thought it was the cable, so i exchanged for another one... it rebooted.
then i thought maybe it's the tv, so i tried a friend's tv... it rebooted as well.
so i figured it must be the phone. but then since everything else was working perfectly on my phone, i couldn't be bothered to go exchange it... i thought i'd hardly use the mhl if at all. guess you should go exchange yours while you still can though.
I'll contact newegg about it, see if I can get a hassle free exchange.
My biggest guess is that is has something to do with the 110v/220v electrical current that it either doesn't receive enough, or too much, causing it to restart.
I am not sure what a good solution is. At least I am not the only one.
hmm i doubt it's got anything to do with electric currents.
it's my understanding that standard usb power is 5v.
anyways japan uses 110v same as US, and i'm in asia 220v and we're having the same problem.
I had same problem as this but the jelly bean update fixed it....

110/220 is AC, which is converted to DC before it even gets to the usb cord, let alone to the phone. Most chargers will support 110 & 220, so there shouldn't be any issue there.
Are you rooted? Have you tried any other ROMs?

I9250 suffers from defect as well
I have problem. Using i9250 original international version. MHL worked once upon a time, jelly bean didn't fix it, started in 4.0.4, last worked in 4.0.2, dont care about downgrading just to examine, but going back to stock 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 might fix it

[Q] Nexus doesn't get power anymore when on

Hi guys,
Since yesterday my Gnex doesn't get power from the adapter anymore when it's turned on. Only if I shut it down, it will get power.
Also when I connect it to the computer, it says: "device is not recognized".
Can anyone help me?

i don't know, your phone is dying?
those of us who have never experienced that particular behaviour, we need something more.
please provide more information; ac/usb charging or both? other charger/cable? running stock, stock+custom kernel, custom rom? list the apps you have installed. fastcharge y/n? if you turn it on after it begins to charge, does it keep charging? have you tried another battery? how do the pins/usb port on the device look: dirty, bent, any kind of damage?
Before thiis happened, I didnt change much things at my nexus. I use AndroidHD rom for quite a while now, and didnt install any new apps.
I tried several chargers but nothing is working. Only of its off, but even then it says its charging but thats not the case all the time.

reflash stock images if you want, relock bootloader, turn it in for warranty, if you checked usb port state.

The problem is that my pc doesn't recognize the phone as a usb-device anymore, so it will be hard to change it back to stock and locked bootloader. Or do you think there is a way? I would like to here it
I also tried different chargers, but it doesn't change anything unfortunately.
Thnx for trying to help guys, it's appreciated.

I've looked at the post, re-locked the bootloader --> that worked.
Now I want to download the ODIN.tar files for de Odin Mobile app, but I can only find the .tar files voor Verizon models.. I however have a GSM model from a Dutch carrier.
Do you have a link for ODIN.tar file(s) for the GSM version of the GNex?
Mine just started doing this as well.

You're not on your own. I'm having the exact same problem with my Galaxy Nexus. since a couple of days.
Only way I can charge it is by turning the device off. Then while its rebooting plugging it in.
I also have the 3 dot connect docking station. Same problem with that way of charging... So I know it is not the USB thats faulty.
My device is rooted. with superuser permission. no special rom. only a different launcher,
never had any problems with it. and I did not change anything in my phone for 2 weeks.
I have no clue how to relock my bootloader without USB.
Casparovic i have a GSM model too. also from a Dutch carrier Vodafone.
Ill try Jubakuba his guide.
Well, I relocked the bootloader (without usb), but it's still not charging when turned on.
I can't figure out what it is. Also i can't send it to the carrier because it's rooted.
Can someone tell me how to go further?
I have the same issues, I just bought 3 spare batteries, and only 2 of them work on my Nexus. So basically I switch between the original battery and the extra battery I bought and charge them with wireless chargers. Very inconvenient, I hate samsungs absolute garbage quality, never again.... 6 years of a loyal HTC customer, guess this is what I get lol

Having the exact same problem. It won't charge when connected to the AC adapter as well as through USB. Computer doesn't always recognize it either.
It does charge however with my rocketfish car adapter and a BlackBerry ac adapter.
Not sure if this could related to the OS, currently running Cm10 v1.7. Or is it something else?

I have had the same problem running Jellybro and AOKP.
Only way to fix it for me was to go back to stock and wipe everything on the internal storage. Then unlock, root etc.. all the way back to whatever nightly I was running and put all my apps and data back on.
This has happened 3 times now in the past 2 months. I really panicked the first time!!
Also, sometimes I have had an issue with it showing that it was charging when nothing was plugged in! Same method to fix... oh well, the price for being a rom flash addict...
Mine randomly started working again. I've been on cm10 nightlies since they started, never changed the kernel. I also have 2 Hyperion 3800mah batteries and the stick battery. Everything charges like normal now.

Well I haven't been able to unroot my phone so I thought it just take my phone to my carrier and get it Fixed,
There the Tech guy Told me.. that you are alowed to root all nexus phone's. So basicly there is no need to be scared. just take your phone to your carrier and they will fix itt.:good:

[Q] Note 2 MHL / CWM 6

Hey all
Just bought the MHL adopter. I had omega v9.1 installed on my note 2 and the MHL did not work with that. Then I installed stock ROM and MHL started to work.
Then I rooted my phone with cwm 6 and now when I connect MHL, I only get a notification HDMI connected but no image. Is there anyone here who is using MHL adopter with note 2 and his/her phone is rooted or has a custom ROM. Any help would be appreciated.
My infuse didnt work after 2.2 with the hdmi adapter lol.
I douvt its cwm6 but rather your rom is most likely the culprit. But you say you're on stock.
Can you try a different tv? Since hdmi is a handshake thing.

Alot of issues with the mhl adapter. I just went to th3 sprint store to see a friend and get info about my phone and found out alot of mhl adapters are knock offs. Some say samsung and come from china but they dont work and if u place the product next to the real deal product ya see there r several differences. Some try to save a buck but end up with a headache due to the knock off not working.lol go to your local dealer or samsung and b happy

Some people have issues with the port on the phone from being rough and shoving plug in b gentle and it will work fine and last. To make sure its not the phone itself go to a store and have em look at it its free.if nothing wrong with the port u need the right mhl cord .sprint has the wireless adapter for note ii to connect to television

So the problem is the root...
I'm rooted with a mhl adapter and it works. This may sound crazy but have you tried resetting the ROM counter using triangle away?
