[Q] Arc s microphone problem! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have Arc S for 8 Months and it was great until today, when i'm on the phone , people say that they can't hear me. and when i yell at them on the bottom of my phone, they can hardly hear me. i have tried the option to turn off noise suppression , my microphone still sounds quiet . i have also tried the phones hardware testing function and it still sounds the same.I have unlocked bootloader so its out of warranty. Is there anything i can do to regain my mics performance?
currently i am on Stock GB(latest).
I really need your help. Thanks

In the dialer enter:
*#*#7378423#*#*
Then appears a service menu where you can test (at least it says so) some if not all the equipment including both microphones.
I guess that if no problems shows you have to flash your rom again or test another and see if the issue its still there.
If your microphone is broken then you should take it to service $
Sorry if i cant be of more help

it seems secondary mic is ok but main mic is not. now how can i fix it?

I still have this problem and i don't know what to do! which part of the phone to replace? please help...

Obviously, if microphone fails in every method, it is the main microphone, which you have to replace.

Arc S Microphone Problem

Hi, i've had my Arc S for 3 Months and my microphone has been playing up for the last few days, when i'm on the phone , people say that they can hardly hear me, and it sounds like i'm on the other side of the room. i have tried the option to turn off noise suppression and although it makes it slightly better, my microphone still sounds quiet and muffled. i have also tried the phones hardware testing fuction and it still sounds the same.
I have used the sony site to unlock my bootloader so i don't think sony will do a warranty repair
What should i do? Is this a hardware problem in need of a repair or if there is a software tweak that will help.
Please help!

A friend of mine had a very similar, if not the same, issue as yours in the galaxy s2. You have to replace a certain part in your phone because it's a hardware problem.
Good luck!

[Help] No sound in Ear Piece Speaker

Well I have made a mistake to buy a refurbished Wildfire S and after a few days of use I have come to know that sometimes earphone speaker doesn't work. It does work occasionally but it randomly stops working in calls. There isn't any HTC authorized service center near my location. There is only one technician with good knowledge of mobile phones and he said its a faulty earphone speaker but I didn't allow him to take apart my phone to replace the speaker. In my opinion it can be a problem with the contacts of the speaker and I can take it apart to look into that but first I need help from you guys. I have tried to flash different ROMs including EQDKP and SpeedDroid and then back to stock but the problem occurs in each of them. My phone is S-OFF. What do you guys think?
Edit: I can hear the sound when I switch to loud speaker.

Yeah you are right but its too difficult for me to spare some time in weekdays as authorized service centers are closed on weekends. I was thinking to take it apart myself just to see whether there are some loose contacts.

yeah do what you think its right.but sometimes its just not working.you have to replace this part.good luck anyways.
Day before yesterday, I talked to the same local technician who told me that sometimes the problem occurs due to loose screws as the earpiece just touches the main board and is not connected by any solder etc. So I checked the upper two screws and found out that both were loose. So I tightened them and after that problem was gone. Earpiece is working good. I'll check it for one or two more days then update.

haha that sucks man.might you reallly check out your phone with htc guys.
i have very good cum bad experience with service center.
5 times PCB change,2 times display,1 time speakers and all,1 time UI buttons,3 times battery.
all things came up in warranty to thank god.or it ll cost me upto INR 30,000+
but last time when i changed my PCB then after i flashed around 200+ times still no problem.:good:
PS when you get free time go to service center our phone has deeper hardware than just bunch of loose wires.

You are right but I took the risk by replacing the earpiece from that local technician and now its working fine. It was very difficult for me to drive 3 hrs to islamabad (where HTC service center is located) and give them my phone to hear that they'll return it after one week. I'm praying now that it wont bother me again...
Hope so..
For me service center is near to my home around 5 kms..and great news is they wont see ur bootloader state..they just need stock rom with stock recovery.

[q] Poor call clarity D855----earpiece crackles during call

Im using d855 , from the beginning the call clarity is very poor, calls are having distortion like broken voices
while talking with the phone ear piece. The other end ie the person receiving call is having no issues at all.
Headphone and loudspeaker clarity is better.
Is it a faulty ear piece or a some software problem.
Is there any one else facing the same problem.
Please help.
Maybe faulty, have you tried rebooting and seeing if that helps?
I have to say my G3 is much better than my previous note 3 or Htc one for call clarity

Thanks for your suggestions.
Great to hear that you getting good clarity on G3 than other devices.
Tried rebooting and resetting the device but no luck.
My intention is to make sure whether its a software bug or hard ware fault before handing over to the
service center.

Hi @mpt123
I have the same problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/poor-call-quality-distortion-noise-t2808530
But, I can't consistently reproduce it - last evening it was consistently terrible, this morning it is consistently fine. I haven't rebooted in-between so I can't work out what is going on.
One thing is - I do frequently connect and disconnect from Bluetooth headset in my car - and I wonder whether this has any influence. Do you use a BT headset?
Also, do you find it is ALWAYS bad, or is it inconsistent like mine?

Hi, this problem is consistent for me all the time.
I'm using it with my headset, speaker mode and bluetooth , all of these worked well without any problem.
I have given this to LG service center and they confirmed it is due to the faulty earpiece.
They asked me to wait for 3 days to do the repairing . I took it back given to the showroom where i purchased
it, the manager promised me tomorrow they will get it replaced with a new one as my demand.
Also for your information in my case i did reset my mob, flashed it with the European firmware to make sure that the
problem is with hardware.
Hope this information will be useful for you at some time.

Yes I had the same problem with my earpiece. I went to CPW and got it exchanged, which was a bit of a hassle because I had to set the phone up again. Although I do have to say the LG Backup software is actually rather good. Backed up my homescreen layout and settings so not too bad.
However I now have a brand new phone and it has exactly the same issues with crackling and vibration. Almost like the speaker is too loud for itself but it really is not that loud or clear.
Do you think I should try to get another replacement?

I'm interested to know what network you are on? And does the crackling always happen, or is it only if you're in bad coverage area? Or some other cause/factor?
Tonight my phone behaves fine, but I'm worried there is some problem.

I am with Vodafone. I had the same thought just this afternoon and I think maybe it might be a signal problem. It seems to be worse when I am at home where I have full 4G coverage. I am going to turn off 4G tomorrow and do some testing just using 3G and see the difference.
Will keep you posted!

Hi I made a post on the other thread as I have the same problem. I'm also on Vodafone. I'm only in a 3g area not 4g but as I'm using a Three network handset I have no option to just switch to GSM.
I have however tried Skype through wifi and data and the earpiece is crystal clear so I agree this appears to be either software or network related.
Will keep you posted!

I called CPW today and they were great. Took it to my local outlet and they swapped it out for a new handset without any hassle at all. They have a 28 day exchange policy which they totally seem to honour.
Not had a lot of chance to test the replacement, but the calls I have made have been crystal clear with no noise, crackling, or distortion. Will update again after a few days.
To re-cap: I had crackling and distortion on the majority of calls but only when using the earpiece - sometime it was worse than other times. It was always fine when in speaker mode or using bluetooth. New handset doesn't seem to have this problem.

the weird thing is that when using skype its always crystal clear. its just GSM calls, so surely can't be hardware issue can it.

I had my phone replacement yesterday with a new one ,the earpiece is very clear though is not that that loud but iam very happy
with it bcz the earpiece on the previous one was so noisy with crackling sounds and i had to use my headphones all the time.
I have seen many reviews with excellent results on call clarity and all , so its shouldnt be a common problem with the phone.
Try to switch the network and compare the clarity , if the results are same then go for replacement.
I have exactly the same problem... All the way here in HK!
There may be a Faulty production batch. Unfortunately the retailers in HK only do 10 Days Swaps so will have to hit the LG Service Center... hopefully it is covered by the Warranty!

Got the replacement already! I've tested out the earpiece and definitely no crackle and its loud.

LG G3 Earpiece Noise Problem
Unfortunately before buying this handset I have not checked about the problems that already exists. I also got G3 with same earpiece digital noise/ buzzing noise problem which usually comes when it first try to connect after dialing the number and then it comes during the call also.
I got 1 phone replaced in Bangalore Sangeetha within 2 days of purchase and the 2nd phone also have the same problem. It seems some batch problem. This is my first LG phone and hopefully the last one.
I have given 2nd phone back to Sangeetha although they suggested me to go to LG center. I don't know where this phone will take me, preparing for a customer court :crying:
I've got this problem with my D850 in the UK on Three, I hear a crack or pop a few times during a call. Has anyone tried turning off noise suppression and voice enhancement in call settings to see if that makes any difference?
I turned off voice enhancement and call quality has improved so far.

[Q] Voice Call Microphone Issues

I just bought this HTC from a buying service, and a trusted one. But when I got the phone. I noticed that the phone was 100% working except the Microphone. I tried using video recording, and I got loud static. I tried a voice call and the person on the other end got static. But not on speakerphone. I found that weird because the mic didn't work on video or a non-speaker voice call.
I wanna know if it's a hardware or software issue and if hardware, how people have repaired it.
Thanks.
P.S. The "Main Mic" Is broken. The 2nd Mic is perfectly Working. From the Main Mic, All I get is static

Happened to me after I dropped my One on concrete floor from 5 feet. Regional (Minnesota) repair shop fixed for $75 +/- but I had to call around because many shops would not attempt the repair due to difficulty and likely damage in opening the One. Not an easy phone to take apart. Believe the microphone and charging port where on same board. Maybe unrelated but soon after my phone started developing the purple camera tint. Possibly due to disturbing the heat shield during repair?

Where I live, all we have are iOS repair shops. And a really far shop for any phone in general. HTC Said the repair could vary from 90 to 200 dollars. But the phone shows no sign of high drops nor water damage. I already tried a small dosage of compressed air. But it didn't have any effect. I'm starting to think this is a software issue.
Is the device you have s off and unlocked? If it is, the problem might be that it needs to have the firmware updated.
I wish it was S-Off and Unlocked.. It would've been if it didn't cost money (I.E. Sunshine)
All I know is that the recovery is corrupted. But I'm not sure if I can Re-Flash stock recovery while its locked..

Have you tried running the encrypted RUU that @dottat posted? That should reformat all the partitions.
Will it Re-Flash the recovery? Because I had CWM and something happened and the boot loader re-locked and now its S-On again. The recovery just shows a phone with an exclaination mark. Says error in yellow text, and reboots as normal.

The ruu flashes the phone like it was new again. I would definitely try that before I sent it to HTC. I would also recommend that if it fixes your phone to never use cwm. It is complete crap nowdays and I don't even understand how it could have done what you said.
The only recovery I actually liked was the AmonRA recovery for the EVO 4G and the Incredible. Do you have a link to the thread with the RUU?

Yeah but if you flashed the GSM version of cwm that might be what caused the corrupted recovery.
That's probably what did it. But I'll wait until sunshine becomes free. Otherwise, I have no phone as of now and I cannot return it. And I'm also out $125. I will either have to find a non-root method of disabling noise cancellation, repair the phone myself somehow (I'm only 14. So I'd probably end up breaking it.) , find a free way to root it, or something else. Because without any of those. I have definitely wasted my money.
Lesson Learned; Don't buy things off of eBay.
But you certainly helped at least to some extent. Sorry if I caused you any trouble. Thanks for all your help.

Question looking for a way to increase mics sensitivity

I was wondering if there is anyway to increase the phone microphones sensitivity. When I'm talking on the phone if I move the phone away from my mouth even a little people can't hear me never had this problem on any other phone. I have to keep the bottom of the phone tight against my mouth for anyone to hear me it's really annoying. Is it something that all g3s have that problem? And it there a way to fix it?

I never heard that before. Please check that whether it is hardware issue or software. Record your voice in recorder then listen. It may help you to confirm the problem. If it's software problem, you can flash it. But if it's hardware then you need to repair it.
