A Plea to all Devs (have a Non-BEATS audio version of your ROMS)

All Devs I beg and plead with you to either have a Non-BEATS audio version of your ROMS or to have it as an optional add-on. I ask this because BEATS audio makes changes to all music you play and I for one along with many others do not like the changes it makes. It seems that every single new version of ROM that comes out has this built in. I have looked high and low and cannot find a way to remove it form the .zip file or even how to remove it after it is installed.
I deeply respect all the work that you do and am very thankful for everything you guys are doing to make our phones better. I understand many people are asking to have BEATS audio added and you are in turn abiding the request.
If anyone wants to know my reasons for not wanting BEATS audio I will be happy to fill you in or you can look at my post history.
One last Thank you to all the Devs for all your hard work and also thank you for even considering my plea, whether or not you are able to fulfill it.
Beats Audio is cool for people who swear by Skull Candy, I guess. Other than that... I'd rather have it optional please!
While everyone has their opinions, and yours is definitely valid, remember that these developers are developing roms based on what they want to make. If they want to put Beats in, its their choice.
Though I think it would be nice if someone would make the files/modifications needed to disable beats ourselves, its out of my knowledge to do so but that would be the proper thing to do rather than expecting developers to change their roms.

Master & Slave has that capability with his new rom paradox paradise. In order for you to activate beats audio, you need to use dsp manager. So there you go. Gotta love options
"Cocaine Is One Hell Of A Drug" You Know I Keep That White Girl
Team Kang probably won't incorporate Beats into their ROMs since they keep it close to stock but with common sense extras that appeal to everyone. As long as Juggernaut and its future releases are Beats-free, I don't see the need to flash anything else for myself.
And yes, Beats are for people with Skullcandy and lower tier phones/IEMs. I'm happy with my Panasonic HJE900K with Poweramp producing sound the way it should be.
What I don't get is why would you flash beats when volume + has beats emulation in it. It's not even all that great. Just really too much bass.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Beats Audio sounds terrible.
I agree. I flashed the zip without making a nandroid and now I'm wishing there was a zip to remove it. The only noticeable thing it does is increases the bass too much. I like bass but not to this level. Whenever I plug my phone into my car the bass is just overwhelming to the point where the treble is just muffled. Besides our sound card, if you can call it that, is already good as it is. In some sense its better than my 2022 MBP's output with the stock player.
I take it, Beats audio doesn't have the ability (in a system setting somewhere) to disable it? So you can go back to normal?
Download and run Darkside Digital Warfare. It does not have any of that extraneous crap baked into it. It will also be one of the best ROM's you will ever run as far as snappiness and battery life.
I have it running via dsp manager so u can enable and disable

So far it is my favorite ROM. I put this plea out because I still love trying out new ROMS from time to time and playing music from my device at work and in my car is a MUST HAVE, CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT feature. And Beats Auido ruins that for me. If only one ROM ends out not having Beats then that limits me to just one viable choice. As other have replied, I am not the only one that thinks this way.
But yes, thank you for the recommendation of Darkside, I have a Nandroid backup for that ROM that I will go back to if I don't find another Daily.
Not sure if SlickMod 3.4 has Beats but DSP Manager wasn't in the base install. Simply installing DSP Manager from the market doesn't work. I to like clean sound and found a workaround with Root Toolbox Pro which has the option to install Cyanogen's DSP Manager, apparently at the system level. The quality coming thru a Bluetooth FM transmitter to my car stereo is as clean as a CD played directly from the player.
A golden app worth mega bucks would be one that would raise and lower the volume depending on surrounding noise. A pink noise generator to set the eq for varied conditions. Hi-end Alpine car stereos started having that option in the mid 80's. The SGS2 has the hardware needed.
I found that if the CPU Freq was set low when first starting an audio file, DSP Manager would crash when trying to change a setting and I would have to reboot.

Why not just delete/disable the files that are required to make it work. Not the cleanest way to do things, but probably would kill the software from running, thus giving you what you want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440986
Scroll this page. There is one post with links. But instead of relying on a zip flash file, open up these files. Look inside specifically at what lib files or apk file in system are running and just delete them yourself.
Again, not the cleanest method of doing things. Or look for the references in build.prop. Most developers will annotate the build.prop file to specifically show some instances for the enhanced audio. Just simply try a quick edit and reboot to see that the audio is back to stock sound. Just a thought
Again, and I repeat this...Nandroid backup first. I don't need any blame on what I made you do

What This Mod Does:
Nexus devices have pitifully low volume. Previous fixes like the Volume+ app and Franco's app only increased the volume on music playback, or in the headphones, but did nothing for in-call volume or notifications.
This mod changes all that. It will increase ALL volume, across the entire phone: ringtone, music, notifications, loudspeaker sound, ear speaker sound, in-call volume, and headset.
Requirements:
-Rooted.
-Custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
-Jellybean Deodexed OR Odexed.
-Custom kernel with high quality audio tweak enabled is recommended (e.g. Franco or Trinity or AK).
-Nandroid Backup, I implore people to have at least one recent one as this method is faster.
Compatible With :
-Galaxy Nexus, Kindle Fire (reported), also Nexus 7.
-Universal for all kernels and ROMs.
-All major players, including: Google Music, Noozy, PowerAMP (see note below), Apollo, PlayerPRO.
Note on PowerAMP - To allow PowerAMP to be controlled by external DSP/EQ you must disable Direct Volume Control under Audio Tweaks in Settings.
Installation:
*Revert previously installed patch as necessary.
1. Copy zip to Internal Storage
2. Boot to custom recovery
3. Install zip from sdcard
4. Reboot
5. Choose EIZO ReWire PRO under Settings > Sound > Music Effects
Note: If you do not have the "Music Effects" submenu then EIZO should be enabled by default since it's the only DSP present.
FAQ:
What you should do:
Configure EIZO, Select it in Music Effects.
Refer to the Op for EIZO settings.
Practice tuning your own values. EVERY user has their own listening experience. What sounds good to one and not the other doesn't become the fault of the MOD.
Keep backups of your Alsa Mixer if you use call recording BEFORE flashing this MOD
Keep backups (The revert is safe) but I am not responsible for loops if you flash this on another device.
Flash the MOD after every ROM flash. Not necessarily kernel flash.
Search if your ROM has been mentioned. KEYWORDS are a must. Example is 'PA works' and the results will be displayed. If not feel free to ask and I shall assist you.
What you shouldn't do:
Test the loudness via Settings. There is an implemented system limiter so you can't tell the difference. Call yourself or sms yourself so you can know the difference.
Complain of distortion without testing your own values. I've set a recommend layout in the OP hoping it's to give you an idea.
Error 7, Error 7 is a halt procedure. Please debug the error and see what's written before saying Error 7 only.
Alternate flashing. (I know some of you prefer to flash the Gnexus mod on the N7 but doing so breaks the media codes, if you have the patience to swap the media codes in etc folder of the N7 then it's fine)
Don't use Noozy lockscreen controls, they're unreliable till a new app is remade.
Don't use compression in EIZO. Causes massive volume fluctuations as it was set to be an AVLS.

Reason for major swap from DSP+Apollo - Noozy
As much as I like giving the option to people on DSP and how they chose to listen to their choice of music, I did a poll over the N7 side, and collected all the data here, and about 70% don't use DSP but only 30% do. So inorder to satisfy both sides, I decided to integrate proper XLouder+Beats that work perfectly without issues, this would highly benefit the audiophiles and those who complain about bass and it's distortion. On another note I have tried my best to retain the loudness infact this build has a whooping 5% loudness, 7% with HTC enabled. And all this is safe.
Word to the wise when using Noozy do not max Psychoacoustic II, as the bass works best on 20-40% [And I repeat for this to work, Please invest on Class A/B/C Bass headphones, Also, Beats..Is class C :|, Most of you might think Beats was Class B or A but it's not. I've tested out this so called 5.1 Surround Sound and Razer Electa $60 headphones can output that and Beats can't] Just my 2 cents. Don't shoot the messenger LOL.
Noozy was the ULTIMATE choice as this cleared the headache of choosing which side do I lean on and which side would I end up screwing over. Bass+Loudness vs those who like baubly neat interfaces, and earlier today a friend of mine linked me Noozy and I tested it out and I was shocked as to how it abused EVERYTHING properly, This player was recommended to most HTC Beats Users but after enabling it on our build.prop it works just the same, Amazing, Crisp, Clean, Flawless! and the album artwork is GORGEOUS! Please do not forget to enable the options in Settings shown below to get the best feel of it. Also Lockscreen Controls are glitchy, but I'm sure the developer would work on a way to fix this.

Caution: Clear cache/data for all DSP's if you had saved values previously as 4.3 and 4.2.2 settings delete them as they are like 2 saucy women in a bar getting ready for a ghetto booty showdown.
Word to the wise, In order for the DSP's to kick in, 4.3 has made some security changes where it won't just run in the background, For EIZO & Beats to kick in, you need to launch the app manually after selecting it from Music->Effects, proceed to GMusic or App of choice, followed by going to the EQ settings from the music app, and change the settings. When changing DSP's from one to another, completely close out the app from the Multi-tasking menu, and notification bar (Best if you FC it from App Info) then change DSP in Music->Effects Settings and finally relaunch the app, making your changes in the EQ.

Highly agree, that would benefit me especially as I could add it to list of combinations that work. Besides I've set to a manner that it works on Stock/CROM's and should work on AOSP based roms.
Flashed this on my N7! Sounds way better and a lot louder than Stock on my beats headset as well as the external speaker!
Just installed this on my N7 with stock ROM and Motley kernel. Booted up. Showed "Android upgrading" all 89 steps which took about 90 seconds .
Amazing increase in volume!
Thanks,
Is there a particular DSP manager/app that you reccommend?
NEVER mind. I see that the MOD installed the DSP manager app. Very cool.

That question got me confused a bit
If you're asking about DSP, there's a DSP Manager included, I have included a script to remove any older versions and include the one that works best with all Beats presets. It should be in your App drawer DSP with a B logo.
If it's about what apps work well with DSP?
Not in particular as it works with both GMusic/Apollo, I've always liked Apollo anyways, Lightweight and works best with DSP.
now the sound dont work
try to install the rom stock
Happens the first time. Then it will restart and work again. It takes a while for the system to re catch and re scan the file system and load the modules.

Edit: On another note, Uploaded a new revision called NexusLouderAOSPTest.zip in the OP, kindly do try that and let me know, That should work for AOSP based ROM's. If it works and it's louder (Sorry I included Apollo to make sure it works) then let me know, then I will put out a Beta2 by tomorrow. The contents of the AOSPTest are what's supposed to be the main core of the audio patch. If that works, then ofcourse, I will work on stage 2.

Flashed on CM10.

Flashed but it seems to effect my games negatively.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
NexusLouderV1 didn't seem to do anything on CM10 Nightly 09/15, there is no option in the DSP manager for "beats boost". I enabled Bass Boost and set it to extreme and then enabled the Equalizer and set it to Acoustic and there was no difference in sound from Google Play Music. AOSP Test didn't do anything either and it removed DSP Manager so I couldn't do anything, am I missing something here?
edit: I just went back to stock and rooted, then flashed the first zip and everything gets copied over but DSP Manager doesn't get installed. It says that the APK is invalid. I checked the MD5 sum and it's the same as on my computer. I even re-downloaded it and the sums are the same.

[ROM] H2O ROM [MA5] 2/11/13 link up

H2O
Hi welcome to the H2O rom. This is one of my first roms. I have made many themes for many devices, and have recently started trying to make roms. THIS IS FOR THE "LK8" leak. I plan on doing many things with this rom, and plan on updating it as our phone updates, and as you the users come up with suggestions and ideas. I am in no way a control freak, and would like this to be an open project. If any real developers or members of the community want to contribute or help it is more than welcome and appreciated.
WHAT IS THIS? This is a modified stock rom of the recently leaked lk8 update. I have added many mods to this rom and themed it out.
DISCLAMER: Because i have to. me xda nor anyone here are responsible for anything that may or may not go wrong with your phone. Lets keep this forumn friendly and please be considerate. NO ETAS! I know this is a beta and we will work through everything together just be patient i have big plans for this rom. no flaming what so ever. lets make this a great rom together.
HOW TO FLASH: You can flash this in custom recovery just like any other rom here. CAUTION! this is for people that have updated to the lk8 firmware, and such files. I have not tried flashing this on old firmware versions. It more than likely wont work but you can try if you want but you have been warned! Other than that i would do a complete wipe factory reset before flashing, but if you are already on the updated rom you can flash over it will not erase data. but if you flash dirty do not post problems here thank you.
UPDATING OPTION: if you are currently on ljc you can flash the all in one ljc to lk8 update for the firmware and such. thenflash this rom. i had to flash the all in one twice for everything to update but it did work. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/kh1d22p5xt2ioqs/LJC-LK8-All-In-One.zip?dl=1 make sure to go to that thread and thank those guys.
THE GOODS:
LK8 android 4.1.2
deodexed
rooted
busybox
super user
initid
fully themed rom
touch wiz launcher thmed and rotation enabled
multivew apps unlimited mod and themed
4 in one boot menu

RC3 requires a fresh install if you are coming from another ROM.
Edit: WORKING WIFI in mods section download and install.
RC3 LINK: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390244042945593412
MA5 INSTRUCTIONSOk so what you need to do is if you are on lk8 firmware or another firmware download the all in one firmware upgrade zip, and MA5 ROM, next boot into recovery and flash the all in one firmware zip, next do a full wipe and then flash the rom. You should be good to go at this point. If you are on the ma5 firmware already but an lk8 or ljc rom then you will only need the new rom and to do a full wipe before flashing new rom. if you are on ma5 firmware already, and a ma5 deodexed rom, then you can maybe get away with a dirty flash but I don't recommend it.

HALO THEME
Instructions: Download both the Halo theme itself, and the Halo icon pack. Install the Halo theme in recovery like anything else. The icon pack is for people to use with apex, or any other custom home launcher, just download to desktop, and unzip file there and place on sdcard. This will give you the look of my screenshots. If you prefer to stay on touchwiz home you can edit the home dock icons with an app called desktop visualizer. Anyways a lot of work went into this so enjoy!

I really like the theme you've done here. Have to try it out!
I'd love to give this a go, but dropbox's saying they've deactivated your public links because you have too much traffic.
Thanks!

Im real sorry guys trying to find another file hosting site im going to put money on my credit card to buy a membership to mediafire so i can upload a file this size. i guess android file host does not care about you unless you are a recognized dev oh well didnt think this would take so long with them. will be a couple hours before link is back up.
uploading now
lmao so i went and paid for a premium mediafire account and started uploading and then my androidfilehost developer status got approved. oh well i guess thats what i get for being impatient. anyways it says 40 minutes left. since i got both hosting sites media fire and android file host. let me know if you have any idea which one is faster. and i will upload there for all updates.

Rom is sweet, I'm having an issue with the displayed battery percentage not being accurate. Do I need to wipe battery history?

This is the input im looking for guys keep up the good work.

[Q] ROM + Kernel suggestions for CallRecorder ?

I have an Xperia Arc that I unlocked months ago. It's currently running "Xperia Ultimate HD 2.0" with kernel version "2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1" - whatever that means. Frankly, I've forgotten how to go about flashing new firmware on the phone.
Recently, I've needed the ability to record phone calls - incoming & outgoing. The different apps I've tried all have the same problem - it can record my voice, but the other end is very quiet - I've tried everything; bluetooth headsets, speaker mode ... etc. None of the recordings are satisfactory.
So, I did some digging for a good app and came across CallRecorder in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441643
And what I understand is that I need a custom kernel to get it working. Fortunately, the Xperia Arc is listed as a supported phone. Can someone point me to a good ROM and kernel combination that works well for CallRecorder? Ideally, I would like some idiot-proof instructions, but links to the required threads should suffice. I've done it before, so it shouldn't be too hard to do it again; right?
Last question - I need some way to display extra information when receiving a call. In the notes section of my contacts I've mentioned "old professor from ABC University" or "coworker from XYZ office". Is there any way to display this on-screen when a call comes in? Helps me to recollect the person better. Too many people have identical first names and the beginning bits of conversation get awkward.

Maybe you can experiment? If it works on custom kernels then ot should work on most custom ROMs.

I am currently using the Vengeance kernel 1.35 with the custom ROM, Xperia Ultimate HD 3.0.2 running on top. It took me HOURS to get it working however - mostly because I goofed up the instructions. I'm thankful to Sony in this regard. If I did it with some other hardware, I might have permanently bricked it by now.
Anyway, I got the trial version of CallRecorder (link in OP) and have it running. Called family and had them call me back - the recording works like a charm! Both the incoming & outgoing voice streams. PERFECT!!! After a couple of weeks, I'll probably buy the app from the Play store.
Now, I have my own annoyances with the Ultimate HD 3.0.2 interface - specifically the pulldown notification bar. Its too cluttered for my tastes. BUT, the point of this thread was to find a working kernel+ROM combination that worked with CallRecorder. And the trial version of the app works.
If I get time to try other kernel+ROM combinations, I'll post the results back here - but don't expect much. Life's hectic for me right now and if it weren't for the fact that I absolutely NEEDED to record calls, I wouldn't have even bothered re-flashing my phone.

[Q] Bluetooth Killing Note II ? N7100

Hi Guys ,
I Have had my share of problems with the Note2 ,
Went a few roms (Tigra on a few versions) and since most of them were sluggish i recently updated to the Kitkat Asylum Rom.
I Have been dragging the following problem for a few months now and seeking the experts help or advice.
Galaxy Note 2 N7100 - Asylum rom + Stock kernel (that came with rom) or Devil kernel - Same exprience the same issue.
Once i connect the Bluetooth Earphone (Fully updated jawbone era) - i can output a call (sometimes two) - after which the Dialer dies and i cant recieve anymore calls - well - technically i can - but once i click ANSWER - the other side hears me , but i do not ear the other side - both on speaker , earphone or Bluetooth earpiece.
Before the Jawbone era i had plantronics - which gave me the same issues - thats why i changed it first.
It happend with most of the roms - maybe had LESS issues on TIGRA V4 as far as i remember - but all of the other roms - BAH.
Currently - Kitkat gives me the best exprience overall - but i cant mostly use my bluetooth...
Any suggestions ?
Thanks!!

Having read the 4.4 ROM threads, Bluetooth simply doesn't work properly. Some people have intermittent problems, others permanent problems.
I suggest you keep an eye on development waiting for a declared fix.
Good luck
