Notice: Flashables are divided into Post #1 and Post #2. Post #1 will contain all the information, misc & flashables for 4.1.2 and Post #2 will contain the flashables for 4.2.1/4.2.2, take note all the latest will be the most recent upload. All 4.2.2 builds start from V3B4
What This Mod Does:
Nexus devices have pitifully low volume. Previous fixes like the Volume+ app and Franco's app only increased the volume on music playback, or in the headphones, but did nothing for in-call volume or notifications.
This mod changes all that. It will increase ALL volume, across the entire phone: ringtone, music, notifications, loudspeaker sound, ear speaker sound, in-call volume, and headset.
Requirements:
-Rooted.
-Custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
-Jellybean Deodexed OR Odexed.
-Custom kernel with high quality audio tweak enabled is recommended (e.g. Franco or Trinity or AK).
-Nandroid Backup, I implore people to have at least one recent one as this method is faster.
Compatible With :
-Galaxy Nexus, Kindle Fire (reported), also Nexus 7.
-Universal for all kernels and ROMs.
-All major players, including: Google Music, Noozy, PowerAMP (see note below), Apollo, PlayerPRO.
Note on PowerAMP - To allow PowerAMP to be controlled by external DSP/EQ you must disable Direct Volume Control under Audio Tweaks in Settings.
Installation:
*Revert previously installed patch as necessary.
1. Copy zip to Internal Storage
2. Boot to custom recovery
3. Install zip from sdcard
4. Reboot
5. Choose EIZO ReWire PRO under Settings > Sound > Music Effects
Note: If you do not have the "Music Effects" submenu then EIZO should be enabled by default since it's the only DSP present.
FAQ:
What you should do:
Configure EIZO, Select it in Music Effects.
Refer to the Op for EIZO settings.
Practice tuning your own values. EVERY user has their own listening experience. What sounds good to one and not the other doesn't become the fault of the MOD.
Keep backups of your Alsa Mixer if you use call recording BEFORE flashing this MOD
Keep backups (The revert is safe) but I am not responsible for loops if you flash this on another device.
Flash the MOD after every ROM flash. Not necessarily kernel flash.
Search if your ROM has been mentioned. KEYWORDS are a must. Example is 'PA works' and the results will be displayed. If not feel free to ask and I shall assist you.
What you shouldn't do:
Test the loudness via Settings. There is an implemented system limiter so you can't tell the difference. Call yourself or sms yourself so you can know the difference.
Complain of distortion without testing your own values. I've set a recommend layout in the OP hoping it's to give you an idea.
Error 7, Error 7 is a halt procedure. Please debug the error and see what's written before saying Error 7 only.
Alternate flashing. (I know some of you prefer to flash the Gnexus mod on the N7 but doing so breaks the media codes, if you have the patience to swap the media codes in etc folder of the N7 then it's fine)
Don't use Noozy lockscreen controls, they're unreliable till a new app is remade.
Don't use compression in EIZO. Causes massive volume fluctuations as it was set to be an AVLS.

Reason for major swap from DSP+Apollo - Noozy
As much as I like giving the option to people on DSP and how they chose to listen to their choice of music, I did a poll over the N7 side, and collected all the data here, and about 70% don't use DSP but only 30% do. So inorder to satisfy both sides, I decided to integrate proper XLouder+Beats that work perfectly without issues, this would highly benefit the audiophiles and those who complain about bass and it's distortion. On another note I have tried my best to retain the loudness infact this build has a whooping 5% loudness, 7% with HTC enabled. And all this is safe.
Word to the wise when using Noozy do not max Psychoacoustic II, as the bass works best on 20-40% [And I repeat for this to work, Please invest on Class A/B/C Bass headphones, Also, Beats..Is class C :|, Most of you might think Beats was Class B or A but it's not. I've tested out this so called 5.1 Surround Sound and Razer Electa $60 headphones can output that and Beats can't] Just my 2 cents. Don't shoot the messenger LOL.
Noozy was the ULTIMATE choice as this cleared the headache of choosing which side do I lean on and which side would I end up screwing over. Bass+Loudness vs those who like baubly neat interfaces, and earlier today a friend of mine linked me Noozy and I tested it out and I was shocked as to how it abused EVERYTHING properly, This player was recommended to most HTC Beats Users but after enabling it on our build.prop it works just the same, Amazing, Crisp, Clean, Flawless! and the album artwork is GORGEOUS! Please do not forget to enable the options in Settings shown below to get the best feel of it. Also Lockscreen Controls are glitchy, but I'm sure the developer would work on a way to fix this.

Caution: Clear cache/data for all DSP's if you had saved values previously as 4.3 and 4.2.2 settings delete them as they are like 2 saucy women in a bar getting ready for a ghetto booty showdown.
Word to the wise, In order for the DSP's to kick in, 4.3 has made some security changes where it won't just run in the background, For EIZO & Beats to kick in, you need to launch the app manually after selecting it from Music->Effects, proceed to GMusic or App of choice, followed by going to the EQ settings from the music app, and change the settings. When changing DSP's from one to another, completely close out the app from the Multi-tasking menu, and notification bar (Best if you FC it from App Info) then change DSP in Music->Effects Settings and finally relaunch the app, making your changes in the EQ.

Highly agree, that would benefit me especially as I could add it to list of combinations that work. Besides I've set to a manner that it works on Stock/CROM's and should work on AOSP based roms.
Flashed this on my N7! Sounds way better and a lot louder than Stock on my beats headset as well as the external speaker!
Just installed this on my N7 with stock ROM and Motley kernel. Booted up. Showed "Android upgrading" all 89 steps which took about 90 seconds .
Amazing increase in volume!
Thanks,
Is there a particular DSP manager/app that you reccommend?
NEVER mind. I see that the MOD installed the DSP manager app. Very cool.

That question got me confused a bit
If you're asking about DSP, there's a DSP Manager included, I have included a script to remove any older versions and include the one that works best with all Beats presets. It should be in your App drawer DSP with a B logo.
If it's about what apps work well with DSP?
Not in particular as it works with both GMusic/Apollo, I've always liked Apollo anyways, Lightweight and works best with DSP.
now the sound dont work
try to install the rom stock
Happens the first time. Then it will restart and work again. It takes a while for the system to re catch and re scan the file system and load the modules.

Edit: On another note, Uploaded a new revision called NexusLouderAOSPTest.zip in the OP, kindly do try that and let me know, That should work for AOSP based ROM's. If it works and it's louder (Sorry I included Apollo to make sure it works) then let me know, then I will put out a Beta2 by tomorrow. The contents of the AOSPTest are what's supposed to be the main core of the audio patch. If that works, then ofcourse, I will work on stage 2.

Flashed on CM10.
Cant say i notice a differnce though?
after flashing on xenon and paranoid - sound bonks... had to reflash
It flashed on slimbean but it didn't seem to make any difference. I even tried the recommended dsp settings.

Flashed but it seems to effect my games negatively.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
NexusLouderV1 didn't seem to do anything on CM10 Nightly 09/15, there is no option in the DSP manager for "beats boost". I enabled Bass Boost and set it to extreme and then enabled the Equalizer and set it to Acoustic and there was no difference in sound from Google Play Music. AOSP Test didn't do anything either and it removed DSP Manager so I couldn't do anything, am I missing something here?
edit: I just went back to stock and rooted, then flashed the first zip and everything gets copied over but DSP Manager doesn't get installed. It says that the APK is invalid. I checked the MD5 sum and it's the same as on my computer. I even re-downloaded it and the sums are the same.

you might have know about megabassbeats. it's a mod to improve our sound quality created by dehumanized. in these past several days, I analized the files inside it and do several experiment to improve this mod. at first attempt, I found that we can modify the equalizer setting in eqfilter.txt. the result of this experiment could be found easily on themes and app section.
however, the result doesn't really satisfy me. I've made more modification for myself to improve this mod. even if this mod is based on beatbass, I've found that several files is missing from the file list. I've added those file into my latest work. I've also found that some of lib file inside this mod isn't loaded into system. by changing some configuration file, I've loaded those lib files and add several modification for sound effect improvement. for the last step, new framework files is added with more binary and lib files needed by system.
I need some tester before I release this mod to public. if anyone interested in this project, they can PM me. I'll wait till 9.00PM GMT+7 today.
i'm all set to test

Issues so far: DSP Manager Equalizer graphic not working.
For me the sound is better, using equalizer Rock, Bass Bost Enabled, Slight.
That´s because I only listen to Metalcore
Will revert back to first Bass Beats and see if theres differences.

baseband: DXKL2
kernel: merruk kernel 2.0 pre-final release
player: poweramp pro (equalizer off) no effects
settings:
dps manger= compression on, bass slight, treble booster + studio room
installation complete
felt some improvements on bass and background music seems to pop out more (became clearer)
issues: dsp manager's preset graphics doesn't seem to change <--- minor prob and can totally be ignored because presets can still be changed and still have their effects
ps: placebo effect?? felt some improvements though maybe due to my crappy earphones

Question and Answer
Q - How do i get this?
A- Simply download, copy it to your sd card, boot into twrp, and flash it. Don't have TWRP, FFF Bootloader, Or even a root? Download THIS.
Q - My Kindle is stuck in a bootloop (It means it wont get past the bootscreen)
A - This seems to be a common issue if you don't wipe your device completely. So wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system.
Q - What are those things that you can download on the second post?
A - Well those are called mods they add little tweaks and other things to your device if you flash them. I have screenshots posted so you can see each mod.
Q - How do i get those mods?
A - Simple just pick your choice, then flash the same way you did with the rom.
Q - I dont like this mod is there a way to remove it?
A - Some of the mods include a link to remove it just flash it. If a mod does not include a link to remove it just do this NOTE YOU WILL LOOSE ALL OTHER MODS. Get your glazed rom and flash that but only wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Q - Will this be getting Aroma Soon or Linaro?
A - I will inplement aroma as soon as we get the touchscreen working. I dont think this rom will ever get linaro due to some reason. Linaro is not fully stable and not fully developed for CM9. Linaro is very buggy and many apps will not work. According to gederom linaro does not make much difference in performance maybe just a little bit but not enough to change this whole rom. I might implement linaro later on whenever a fully functional linaro is released but for now NO LINARO.
Q - I hate this rom or i hate one of the things in it.
A - Well this is not the only rom if you want something changed you can either give me a suggestion or do it YOURSELF. There are many other roms out there. Maybe this is your favorite rom or maybe not it depends on what kind of view you look at this.
Q - How often will you be updating this.
A - Very frequently maybe twice a week.
Q - I love this rom so MUCH is there a way i can ever repay you?
A - Yes, by hitting that thanks button and giving me your user experience view on it. If you really would like to thank me you can do so by donating. That is the only thing keeping me going and making future developments.
Q - Do you have any other roms maybe a much simpler one?
A - Yes SIMPLE CM9, hence the name simple cm9.
Q - YOU F*CK*ED UP MY KINDLE.
A - Read the disclaimer, and i highly doubt this rom can mess up your device. Well only if you were messing with things your werent supposed to.
Q - I want to develop mods for this.
A - Everyone starts out as a noob you slowly learn more and more as you go, maybe you just are not ready for developing or maybe you are. If that is so you can make a mod and just post it or PM me and i will surely take a look at it and maybe put it in the mods section. Or you can just find a really cool tweak online or mod and JUST PM me ONLY and i might implement it or add it to the mod section.
Q - My device is slow after flashing.
A - The device is slow because it is building the cache just give it some time and reboot it should fix that issue.
Q - My problem is not on here?
A - Please do not start a new thread post it on here or PM me and you will surely find a solution.
I'll give this a try
you know i'm flashin' this in a few
Please test and let me know if there are Bad Bugs Lying around. Thanks.
ive been waiting for this as you can tell
Has anyone been able to get this to download. I keep getting download unsuccessful
sent from my Nokia 5110
So far, it's running great. Just two bugs I've noticed so far:
- The screen orientation when switching from landscape to portrait is a bit delayed. Same thing when opening apps.
- A LOT of apps are missing from the Play Market, including YouTube and Amazon Mobile. I tried modifying the build.prop file, but no luck.
Still, this ROM rocks! Great job!

For the market apps that are seen as not compatible (like YouTube), is there a reasonable way to get them working? Would sideloading the apk work?

Side loading would work but I'm sure we can find a way to fix that issue. I noticed that issue in the 6/8 build of simple CM9 but when he updated it on the tenth it was working again.

You can sideload .apk files just fine. I used Titanium Backup to restore my apps. The problem is, since so many are incompatible, they won't update.
Normally you can either modify or replace the build.prop file using Root Explorer (as I did), but it didn't resolve the missing-incompatible apps issue.

Always when switching orientation the device takes longer on all roms due to the fact that it first has to detect what position its being placed in and transition from there. Are you sure about when opening apps i stood up last night testing this rom like crazy and im pretty sure apps are snappy. Maybe try reflashing? Yeah i realized my mistake on the play store apps being fixed now.

Please refrain from asking about PowerAMP as it denies the use of third party DSP's which make PlayerPro a better alternative.

Missing :
- Since ROM's are still experimental, therefore these builds are considered experimental until proven stable.

Bugs:
- Raising the volume in-app (noozy) won't increase past 10/15, you need to tab out, raise the volume and accept to bypass the safety limit
- Bass needs retuning and so do some volume levels
- New codecs were added in 4.3, they need to be affected aswell and added to media_codecs.xml aswell as audio_config, atm they are't tuned
- Revert causes no audio, can be fixed by flashing your ROM again.
- Not compatible with PowerAMP yet.

Running fine on AOKP. Had to clear data for noozoxide for all the settings to work.
Can't say I know what I'm doing though..The in-app settings for Noozy seem to sound much better than anything done in Noozoxide. Similar with Beats+Play music, both Beats and in-app Noozy seem to do a lot better than anything with Noozoxide.
Also, any way to get Beats/Noozoxide working with Gonemad? I assume not. Never heard of Noozy before it's a beautiful app, very glad to see it, although not as practical while driving. Gonemad gesture/volume key for track change support is hard to beat while driving. Thanks for the addition, I'll be sure to keep playing around especially in the car/with speakers, I've only tested with MEEI cc51 in ears so far.
...and here we go!
Yep, as the guy above states: if some of EIZO's functions appear to do nothing, make sure first of all that EIZO is set as your default equalizer. Secondly, be sure to delete its app data and that fixed it for me.
I've tried JB Louder with Stock, AOSP and AOKP ROMs and it's works perfectly on all types (from the ROMs that I tested anyway). :cyclops:
Enjoy MisledZ's work, it will ROCK YOUR NEXUS! :good:
I noticed a better sound quality but it's not louder even if I set it to "strongest".
I also cleared the app cache. I pluggin in an AUX cable from my car stereo and have to turn up the volume too high, that if switching back to radio it blows my head off....
The best solution on my old gnex was to flash franco or trinity kernel and use francos app to increase the sound output.

- Since a long time i didn't post anything, i'm proud to present today a little work for all who need getting DSP Manager or "Equalizer" (from Google Play) working with PowerAMP or any other player in Google Play.
- Originally designed to work with Galaxy Nexus CM10.x roms. May works probably on any rooted device with 4.x.x android OS !
My settings are like this :
==================
* DSP Manager (Headset mode and Bluetooth device) >
.Dynamic Range Compression : disabled
.Bass Boost : enabled (moderate)
.Equalizer : enabled > 0 to all except "16K frequency" (+6)
.Virtual Room Effect : what you want
* PowerAMP >
.Bass : in the middle
.Treble : maximum
.Equalizer : untouched (Flat)
.Direct Volume Control : unchecked (PowerAMP>Settings>Audio>Advanced Tweaks)
- If you prefer using Apollo (on CM10.x), disable the DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) from DSP Manager menu.
- All credits goes to CyanogenMod for the original DSP Manager and library and Tytung from HD2 community !
This is it !
Thanks! I hope that will be suitable and for CM10.1. I don't use PowerAmp because of it. Maybe you will make and for CM 10.1? I am afraid of library different at 4.1 and 4.2 androids...
DSP Manager should work now better with PowerAMP (better than Voodoo or any other equalizer)
believe me !
I don't doubt it. Ok, I will try to make the test in CM10.1. Thanks!
The Package was updated with a modified DSPManager.apk (credits goes to CyanogenMod Team)
Yes..! Finally working dsp manager on poweramp.
Tested and working on Xylon stable 15 / Android version 4.2.1
Thank you so much..!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
enjoy it man !
Finally a fix that works with poweramp and CNA 3.8
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
In CM10.1 of effect isn't present. Change of parameters in DSP Manager doesn't influence sound change in any way...
- No need to choose the effect in general settings of the rom. Reflash the zip again and don't modify it please !
- Don't forget to uncheck "Direct Volume Control" in PowerAMP settings to get the DSP Manager working.
- I confirm, it works with both cm10 and cm10.1 builds ! Tested by my self this morning.
Confirmed works on xylon 15 stable maguro..and also works with beats xlouder
Finally my power amp have a great sound..thx
Sent From My Galaxy Nexus™ Using Xda HD Premium App
Wow! It's cool! Many very big thanks! I test... :good:
what r u waiting man ?
It is tested on CM10.1 - works! Now it is possible to return on a favourite player! I confirm, together with xLouder PowerAmp sounds even better! You are a genius...
Working brilliantly with AOKP.
Thnx a lot man.
My settings are like this :
==================
* DSP Manager (Headset mode and Bluetooth device) >
.Dynamic Range Compression : disabled
.Bass Boost : enabled (moderate)
.Equalizer : Acoustic
.Virtual Room Effect : Studio
* PowerAMP >
.Bass : in the middle
.Treble : half of Bass
.Equalizer : untouched (Flat)
.Direct Volume Control : unchecked (PowerAMP>Settings>Audio>Advanced Tweaks)
Ladys & Gent.
I'll be back soon for something new again !
c'mon mister supercurio, give a taste !
I also posted in the CM 10.1 thread.. but just in case you dont see it OP...

Your best bet is to submit to gerrit. I will tell you this tho, the /vendor/etc/audio_effects.conf that you pulled from the Mako, use devices specifics that the Tuna does not support. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but whatever DSPManager.apk that you have incuded is not freshly compiled. Not sure where you pulled it from, but it will break some of the newer implemented features of CM (ie: Launch music app on connect).

In order for this to be consider being included in CM you must first provide the code. You will need to submit the code to gerrit for the code to be reviewed and/or considered to be merged into CM . XDA is a forum, gerrit is for code review. I was just offering some advice to help you. Pulling files from different places and putting them into one package is not how you get something merged into CM. Breaking the functionality of CM is also not going to get it merged. I wasnt being brash in any kind of way. I was only offering some tips on things i noticed.

A lot of bloatware has been removed. I felt that there should be more stock-based ROMS to choose from, and more

Download and extract IRS files to <storage>/ViPER4Android/Kernel/<paste files here>

Download and place the IRS in the correct folder and then it can be loaded in V4A for even more sound options.
HERE are some IRS files I downloaded to test, thought you might like to get them from me. Check the link above for updates and new IRS files.

Seems spiffy so far.
Thanks for turning off the camera shutter sound in the build prop.
Maps 7. Coool.
One concern: during the initial boot, I waited about 5 minutes until I decided I'd reflash it. But, I didn't reflash it, because the moment I hit the power button, the home screen showed up.
Pertinently, I flashed Liberty 1.22 with the ROM.

You're dandy welcome.
Also of extremely minor concern: I think it flashed with both the LG Alarm/Clock and the AOSP style Clock. Woo.
EDIT: Speaking of which, if I try to edit either of the two alarms that are set as default in Clock, it crashes.
I am able to create new alarms though. ... Hope they work...
EDIT: That problem magically disappeared. Maybe I'll come back with some useful observations soon. Thanks.

I tried building this with Evolutionmods latest kernel, but ran into the extremely slow bootup so I went back to the stock kernel. I PMed him for help. With the stock kernel I timed the initial boot at about 2 min 10 sec.

I had old apps show up if I didn't wipe system before flashing.
I spent the last month tinkering with this to get it where it is at, I didn't want to post something terrible my first time out. Glad to see you guys trying and enjoying it.
Has anyone tried the viper4android effects? I thought I had it working the other night, but now I can't tell the difference with it on or off. I have been playing around with all the sound mods I can find and can't seem to get one with a noticeable difference. Either my LGOG came with great stock sound or I am doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Any of those kernels past 1.22 boots slow for me. 1.23 is where they get OC'd.
And insofar as the system app showing up when I didn't wipe system, that makes sense.

ihitcows - Let me know if you test out the sound mod. Also, are you experiencing any call problems? It might be because I use Google Voice, but my wife will call me and her phone will ring for 30 seconds and go to my GV VM and it won't even ring on my phone.

Sound mod confirmed working on speaker, headset and Bluetooth.
Though the effects are, generally, so slight on the speaker it's difficult to tell. But it does work.

Thanks, but is this sound mod better than AC!D or Beats? Like I said, I haven't noticed that much of a difference with any of them. I am still trying a couple of others, but I don't want to get rid of it if everyone likes it.

All righty. Since I was prompted to update the drivers for VIPER, and did, the headset hasn't worked. Haven't tried speaker and BT.
So, I'm gonna ditch it. But hey, it's sound. Hard to be more subjective than that!
All of the adjustments, for me, on both Beats and AC!D work, with one exception: the EQ on AC!D's Noozxoide. But I really dig its room-size adjustment.
And, dev, I appreciate the dark-themed Play Music, but I cant get it to show any content. Tried clearing data and rebooting and resyncing.

1. I think I messed up something with v4a and believe I can fix it. Fixed or new sound mod will be in the next update.
2. My player loads everything from my internal storage. It is not the same as Google play music, it is just a plain old school android music player with an updated theme. If you use Google play music you will need to download it.
I will be working on this more tomorrow and will hopefully have 1.1 tomorrow night maybe.

I'll give it a shot on the next build. Or whatever's out by the weekend. I got a stable setup I revert too but like trying new things....just need a driver for them business days.

Darndest thing just happened:
Seeing as how I still had the Alarm/Clock, etc., and notification bar and menu I had from LifeLess, I decided to reflash this ROM after wiping system. So,
I wipe data, dalvik/cache, and system, and boot into a several-minute long LG logo.
Better yet, my backup of this ROM nor of LifeLess would boot. Same thing.
... This may very well having to do with something outside the ROM that I've done. Just thought I'd mention.
EDIT: Formatted data, we're good.
Flashed it without Liberty kernel; initial boot was normal this time.
if you use evos kernel you can use faux sound to adjust sound settings and it works really well
