Great find mate. I'd LOVE to see them try to argue that in court:
"well, your honor, the defendant found our secret software and then found our training manuals and posted mean stuff online."
"what exactly is the full scope of capabilities of your software? Do you have the ability to read private messages?"
"Umm, well, yes. Yes we can do that. But we have consent from the carriers!"
"but not from the people's whose information you are siphoning. Also, where did the defendant find these alleged manuals?"
"Umm well on our website."
"public website?"
"yes. Well... Yes. But we have since removed them so he is infringing on our copyright by still having them!"
"so he defendant discovered that your software spies on users without their consent, knowledge, or ability to stop it and then found on your website manuals that explained how your spyware works. Now you want the judicial system to punish him for exposing your company's illicit monitoring of the public? Not going to happen."

Companies like Carrier-IQ are a plague to our privacy.
It's one thing to create and provide (at a price) software to carriers that steals private information, but to try and threaten/ruin a person for talking about it shows a real "Big Brother" mentality IMO.
I hope this is the beginning of a major change in how the rights of the consumer are protected when it comes to the collection of information. We have the right to be informed as to what is being collected from our most private devices and to opt out should we choose (which most of us will..)
Carrier-IQ is the equivalent to digital theft, no question about it. It's happening without disclosure, without permission, and it's purposely hidden from the average consumer who would have no way to discover this for themselves.
Look at how upset Carrier-IQ is over what was PUBLIC information being "collected" from their website? Imagine if we were stealing the private data from their site/personal devices and being paid for doing it!

Just freeze it or uninstall it with Titanium Backup.
It's the app "System Manager" ironically. Check the process in your running services (Settings > Applications > Running Services)
You'll see "System Manager" and when you click on it, it will show you something like "com.tmobile.carrierIQ" (I forget exactly since I froze the app about a week ago.)
It does not affect the phone in any negative way, it actually runs slightly better now IMO
Wow, it never ceases to amaze me the stealthy things like this that software companies come up with, and then are outraged when everyone finds out and wants it gone.
We already have NOCIQ check in the developement section .

Just checked this path and in my running services I don't have this listed anywhere.
It would appear on my Telus variant (SGH-T989D) that there is no CIQ installed. Checked my running processes but also used the app TrevE made.
Freezing it doesn't work, the CarrierIQ process is still running in the background
Ran the app on Juggernaut 3.1 and Bullet kernel 2.7b and it found nothing.

I saw it running with System tuner, it disappeared when I deleted it altogether.
I ran the logging test app on the stock Telus ROM and it doesn't appear to have carrierIQ at all ... which is pretty good.
Was this on the stock rom ? I can't find it on running processes or on titanium by name or the process string (ie com.xxxxxxxxz)

It's called System Manager (even more shady), it should be there because it's definitely on the stock rom unless you have a slightly modified stock rom with the bloat removed.
Can please somebody explain to an idiot like me, how
can I remove Carrier IQ from my T-mobile T989 using stock everything, except for root and some frozen bloatware?
I looked around and couldn't find any results.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I assume you have Titanium Backup?
If so, uninstall or freeze the "System Manager" app
This will not completely remove all traces due to the fact it is embedded in the Kernel.. you can flash a custom kernal but it's really not necessary. Once you've frozen or uninstalled "System Manager" Carrier IQ can no longer effectively function
You can also use a file explorer and remove: system/lib/libiq_service_tmobile_2.2.so
Doing both will pretty much clean your phone of Carrier IQ, it will be unable to run.
Thank you for your help.
I have frozen the Manager (will it break something else?) and I have removed the '' lib iq.... ''.
The app Carrier IQ Detector stil tells me that I have it.
But I believe you that will be ineffectual now.
Thank you for your help.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
No, it will not break anything else. And yes, as I said it is embedded in the kernel so voodoo or other detectors will still show it present, but inactive.
And no problem, glad to help. Searching is a great way to find answers.. But I know sometimes it's easier to ask lol
Sent from my T989 hunting for Siri Connor
Please remember that a single update from the carrier will put it back into active and working status. I hope you didn't spend any money on that detector.
Sorry for the late reply.
Thank you for letting me know about the update
and I presume you are taking about ICS update and
not a minor one.
No I didn't pay anything for the detector, it is free

OK I can't delete system/lib/libiq_service_tmobile_2.2.so and I've tried it using a file explorer (with ROOT permission) and terminal using SU and I get the following message "rm failed for libiq_service_tmobile_2.2.so, Read-only file system"
Also I can't find System Manager. I do have an application I have frozen in Titanium called "System Manager Application 1.1" with a little pink gear icon. However apps like premiatul described still show carrier IQ listed but state "however it seems inactive". I'm concerned cause I'm still getting detection scores of 290 and 100 in the logcat information. Mind you I used to have a Nexus one and those numbers were all zero.
So the question is even though I can't delete the file like premiatul, and I have a different application listed frozen; am I still preventing that IQ garbage using my battery up?
You have to mount the folder read/write to delete the file, use root explorer. The option will be in the upper left corner when browsing system folder for the file
You will still show a score on voodoo but once you delete that file it will lower the score slightly. If you want you can uninstall system manager (and yes you froze the correct one) and it will lower the score significantly but you'll get continuous force closes until you reboot. No need IMO once frozen it cannot function regardless of how high your score is
Sent from my T989 hunting for Siri Connor
I highly doubt that removing of CarrierIQ is possible without gaining root because all files related to it are located in the system space which is read_only and protected from anyone but a root user.
You cannot run RootExplorer in system space unless it is run by a root.
In my experience cleaning IQ-tmobile-release-...apk and several associated files belonging to the carrierIQ removed running service and made it undetectable by the above mentioned app.

lemme know here where you'll be posting it... I'm super interested to get rid of CIQ, especially since it's a waste of battery life. I generally customize my ROMs with almost nothing left as far as background processes are concerned. My i9100 gets a 1-2 day battery life because of it, lol.
Not sure if this is the correct way but,
I rooted and installed root uninstaller..
Browsed tab where it says all programs.. looked through and found three programs starting with iQ...
I un installed all three.
when I did root checker after it said carrier iq was not detected on my device.
(previous to removal it said it WAS present on my device.
Hope this helps

I tried a number of apps on google play store that detect CarrierIQ and none detected CarrierIQ. Only one (Voodoo Carrier IQ Detector) said there maybe some elements of CarrierIQ but it was inactive. I believe that program produce a false positive since looking at comments it said everything has element of CarrierIQ. The programs I used are Carrier IQ Detector, Voodoo Carrier IQ Detector, Anti Carrier IQ, Bitdefender Carrier IQ Finder, TrustGo Carrier IQ Detector, Carrier IQ Scanner, and Carrier IQ Red Pill.

You're given the option to turn it off, and that's the best you've got, but I don't trust it.
Glad the same method still works. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I was going to suggest it..
Will unchecking it from Droid Wall do the trick temporarily?
Rooted and uninstalled these 3 in Titanium Backup:
"system manager toggle"
"system manager application"
"system manager notification"
Then I went to the /System/CSC/ folder in Root explorer and edited both the Feature.xml and Other.xml files
Using Root explorer you long press the on the filename until a menu comes up. Choose to open with Text editor.
The text is at the bottom.
<!-- CIQ -->
<CSCFeature_CIQ_BroadcastState>true</CSCFeature_CIQ_BroadcastState>
Change true to false in this section of BOTH of these files and save and reboot.
The old files before editing will be saved with a .bak extension.
Worked great for me.

Not worth it to me. Keep Greenify, and download a different calculator. (I personally don't use s-voice)
Mine's doing this too and I don't have Greenify installed. Went through accessibility settings and couldn't find anything that fixed it. I downloaded a new calculator, so it isn't a big deal. Still wondering if this is a bug, a setting, or a conflicting app.
Maybe if those that are experiencing this issue can post their a installed apps it may help?
I suspect that if accessibility is enabled for particular softwares like Keeper or LastPass the issue with the calculator pops up. I'm sure there are other apps that could cause it as well. Since I needed lastpass more than the stock calculator I installed calc+ and use that instead. I ran it through mw pen enabler to process its apk to support multi window mode.

for me, it was keeper. The thing about it was that I had "turned off" keeper so i couldn't access the settings. I had to turn it back on, go into the settings, change whatever it was that was causing the speech, then turn keeper back off. Then it was fine. So weird how you can turn off an app but the settings still apply.
This is NOT a bug.. per se.
These apps that are causing this to happen, are not even close to using Android as it was designed. They have found a back door to access certain functions in a way that used to require root. They use a work around, and that work around causes the speaking apps. They are definitely not using the accessibility services as they were designed to be used.
That said, those apps do extend the function of the device for a minimal negative impact. So as with all the things that make android great... its a personal decision on how to manage your device, and what you prioritize. Keep the functionality of these apps and work around the "bug" or uninstall the app and silence the calculator.
They will not fix the "bug" because it caused at the root level and the devs have no way to make changes there, and Google doesn't support these features using the accessibility services as a a backdoor way to automate the phone. Most likely they will close the loophole at some point.. the most definitely will not formalize it.

I couldn't find it either and using CarrierIQ Scanner and Bitdefender Carrier IQ Finder both stated "Carrier IQ not found".
However, Carrier IQ Red Pill comes back with "There is a Very Strong evidence of CarrierIQ being installed on this device." It listed 3 Active Processes - iqd, iqmsd, and iqbridged - with iqd as a "positive" test.
Haven't tried messing with deleting it yet, but it does seem Tmobile is trying to bury it a little deeper with Lollipop.
