Thanks for the suggestion, but...
I have the same issue. The path to the settings on mly phone does not exist as typed above. I do find:
Settings>Device>Accessibililty>Vision>Talkback.
Talkback is off, still having the issue.
I've looked through the other menus (only at main level), and do not find a Personalization option.

If you really want for the calculator to stop talking:
Settings - Device - Accessibility then under Services switch off Keeper Fastfill
I use Keeper a lot for auto login so switching this off is not an option for me.

INteresting. Doesn't turn it off for me. I had Keeper disabled. So I re-enabled it, turned off Keeper Fast Fill, still get numbers announced.

Disable calculator and download the one in play store called calcu far nicer than stock.

Actually I have already downloaded one. Calcu looks very nice. I was thinking it didn't have a memory , but, the pull down looks like it will serve for that.
For some reason I can't disable the stock calculator. But it's no big deal.

I use nova launcher which gives me the option to hide apps from drawer. Like I use ex dialer too so I hide the phone and contacts.

Do you have greenify installed by any chance? That was causing the issue for me and uninstalling fixed it.

Also, two other calculator i recommend: mobicalc and myscript calculator.

Yes what mdemirha said. It was greenify making it speak. Greenify also turned off s voice talk back for my phone. Uninstalled and both went back to normal

Not worth it to me. Keep Greenify, and download a different calculator. (I personally don't use s-voice)

Mine's doing this too and I don't have Greenify installed. Went through accessibility settings and couldn't find anything that fixed it. I downloaded a new calculator, so it isn't a big deal. Still wondering if this is a bug, a setting, or a conflicting app.

Maybe if those that are experiencing this issue can post their a installed apps it may help?

I suspect that if accessibility is enabled for particular softwares like Keeper or LastPass the issue with the calculator pops up. I'm sure there are other apps that could cause it as well. Since I needed lastpass more than the stock calculator I installed calc+ and use that instead. I ran it through mw pen enabler to process its apk to support multi window mode.

for me, it was keeper. The thing about it was that I had "turned off" keeper so i couldn't access the settings. I had to turn it back on, go into the settings, change whatever it was that was causing the speech, then turn keeper back off. Then it was fine. So weird how you can turn off an app but the settings still apply.

This is NOT a bug.. per se.
These apps that are causing this to happen, are not even close to using Android as it was designed. They have found a back door to access certain functions in a way that used to require root. They use a work around, and that work around causes the speaking apps. They are definitely not using the accessibility services as they were designed to be used.
That said, those apps do extend the function of the device for a minimal negative impact. So as with all the things that make android great... its a personal decision on how to manage your device, and what you prioritize. Keep the functionality of these apps and work around the "bug" or uninstall the app and silence the calculator.
They will not fix the "bug" because it caused at the root level and the devs have no way to make changes there, and Google doesn't support these features using the accessibility services as a a backdoor way to automate the phone. Most likely they will close the loophole at some point.. the most definitely will not formalize it.

Unfortunately neither of those things work. going to settings then accounts and sync and Google just opens up the normal Google now settings.
Also uninstalling Google now has royally screwed up my phone so I would not recommend anyone else do this.

thats why I installed a custom rom as soon as I got the phone out of the box
backup with htc cloud, shouldn't take long to recover everything back to normal
I really don't want to install a custom rom. They are too unstable for me and the stock rom has great battery life and is well designed. Xposed modules can allow me to make any changes necessary without the bugs you get with custom roms.
Bumping this again. I have uninstalled, wiped data of the app, and done everything I can think of. Also updated to the latest one and no success. I have no apps modifying google now or any touch interfaces of any kind. Any idea for a fix?
So what are you actually wanting to change? What Google Now cards are shown? If so, you open Google Now and then click the magic wand you can then add/remove which cards are shown

Imho he means the settings screen where you can access e.g. the Offline Voice Packs...
A couple of us have been trying to figure this out forever. Custom ROM won't help. Something else is breaking it. In my case, I think it was when I installed a clear themed gnow from tbo. The only way I ever got it back was when I accidentally wiped my internal storage. I broke it again with clear gnow. Restoring a nand doesn't help. Clean flash doesn't help. This leads me to believe something is being left in internal SD that's messing with it. Another of us has not installed anything themed and still it's happening to him. Very elusive.
Here's a workaround that was just found. I'm pasting it from the tho thread I just posted it in. Op, maybe add to your op for people who stumble upon this thread with the same problem.
Pasted: Just want to keep you abreast of my discoveries. My problem, and a friends, of settings not working clearly start when I install clear gnow however I have found a couple people who have this problem and did not theme anything. Someone found a work around. This may or may not shed some more light. If you install gnow launcher you can access the settings from there. If you switch back to sense it stays until reboot but then if you need to adjust you can switch back to g launcher to do it. I'm just keeping gnow launcher installed for that purpose.

Battery drain fix

After updating to kitkat my battery went downhill.
Someone suggested turning off location services and that fixed it.
Got to researching more and found someone saying to deny location services from Google search
So I used the app "app ops" from the play store then gave it root rights from in there it will list all apps that use location services and you can disable their permissions one by one to decide which ones are necessary.
Really not sure how we survive without this app.
Hope this helps.

Good find! There are several apps by that name tho... Which one in particular are you using? I'm keen to try
Cheers

It is a simple program that lets you take back permissions
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
Well I'm not sure why, but this app just won't run on my phone....CM11 m7. I am running ART, but other people say that is compatible. I just get the same thing a small minority of users get, press install & reboot, but the app doesn't install to system. oh well :/
Did you grant it root access?
I don't think it matters for you though cm 11 has this program built in
Go to settings then privacy then privacy guard then the three dots for settings click advanced now you can change permissions
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes I did grant it root access. But like you said CM11 has it built in & I didn't know that until now, so thanks. It even has a counter there with the number of location access, and the stand out one is 'google play services' with a count of over 300,000. Going to have a play around with that and see if disabling location access for play services has any negative effects.

[Q] Besides recent apps, a quick way to switch between current and most recent?

While I study for the GRE, I do a lot of switching between OneNote and some other app ( eg dictionary ). Considering the slowness of loading recent apps, it gets a bit annoying considering the number of times I need to switch between the two. Hoping for a way to switch between the two most recent apps without actually going into recent apps.
Can either app work in multi view?
Onenote is for reading so would rather avoid having a split view

You could try MW enabler (Search for it in the play store) It doesn't require root, and it would allow you to take one (or both) of the apps and shrink them down into a bubble, that you could easily open and close and hide. In your situation it might be an option.
There are some limitations due to it not needing root... the 2 biggest are that it has to uninstall and reinstall the app... you will lose whatever you have unless you have it backed up somewhere (wouldn't think its a big deal for a dictionary) and you need to turn OFF auto updating for those apps, because if they update from the play store you will lose the multi window/bubble feature until you re-activate it.
Yeah not sure if I like that option thanks for the info. If it irritates me enough the next few days I will likely reconsider

Give switchr a try. l set it up in "Flow" mode and use a right side edge trigger. Seems to work well for switching between applications.
Umm just drag your finger down and in from the top right corner of the screen while in app. Then you can minimize it to a bubble or have multiple apps open at once on the screen.
right you can windowize the app... then all apps that are windowed can be iconized by pressing the home key.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Battery Saving Tips

A phone even with killer looks and amazing features still needs a descent battery backup to support it all. In past we've seen that a few tricks here and there always tend to increase battery life. Usually that includes disabling a few apps or features. This thread is for specifically targeting such tips & tricks and sharing it all so that S6 Edge+ can live upto its expectations..
1. To start with, lets get to the list of bloatwares that can be safely disabled.
If any of you own the AT&T version, here's a list you can disable:-
AT&T Apps:-
AT&T FamilyMap
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Live
AT&T Locker
AT&T Mail
AT&T Mobile Locate
AT&T Mobile Transfer
AT&T Navigator
AT&T Ready2Go
AT&T Smart Wi-Fi
Drive Mode
Caller Name ID
Mobile TV
Plenti
Smart Limits
Yp (Yellow Pages)
Other Apps:-
S Voice
Amazon (I prefer the playstore version for frequent updates)
Amazon Kindle
Device Help
Live Weather (Yahoo)
Lookout
Theme Store
Visual Voicemail
2. Refrain from using any free application that has embedded advertisements. They tend to run threads in background to load adds and thus degrade the app performance and used data (so naturally consume more power too). Either buy add-free version or find an alternate app for same purpose and without adds.
3. Disable notifications from social media/news apps like Facebook, Twitter, Tapatalk, etc. Although, the phone wouldn't be that smart if all the notifications are disabled, however, keep them at bare minimum. Not everybody would be interested in notifications from all the apps, so spend some time analyzing through all the installed apps and their settings to turn off the notifications for the apps you do not need to get notifications for. There are several apps that keep sending notifications and running a thread in background which again checks internet to load the notification content. An example would be games like Candy Crush or Clash Of Clans.
4. Turn off "Send Usage Statistics" or "Help Improve the app performance", "Participate in improvement" etc settings from the app which sends data from your device from time to time which acts as a survey to improve the performance of the app. Although this is a necessary option for a developer, however, if you do not care about your granular contribution towards further development of the app, try deselecting such options while setting up new apps.
5. Refrain from using external Memory Management Apps and RAM Cleaners. They tend to run heavy background services to detect memory usage and kill applications. Trust me, you would be better without them.
6. Try using black wallpaper and lock screen. Also, always select Dark Mode if any app has theme section. This makes the pixels produce less brightness and considerably save more battery.
7. Keep GPS Location off when not using any navigational/location based apps. When the GPS is ON, there are some apps that tend to acquire a GPS Lock even though they can work without it. Keeping GPS Off will not allow such apps to request for GPS Lock. GPS Locking is a battery draining process.
8. You can use certain tools like Greenify, WiFi Automatic, etc. to automatically manage application states or phone wireless to save some additional battery. Use these only if you are lazy like me. Otherwise you can always manually turn on/off wifi/bluetooth/nfc etc etc. Also, there are tools (like Juice Defender) which can enable/disable data connective at a frequent interval which results in really good power conservation without loosing push notification.
With applying most of these settings, I'm getting 6-7 hrs of screen on time very easily even when I've downloaded 1+ GB data and 40 minutes of video chat (hangout). Not to mention the usual gaming and application usage.:cyclops:
I hope that helps. I'll keep adding if I get any (without root).
Reserved for future use!

Please tell me a solution if any one knows:
I open facebook and after some time i close this application by click on list tasks soft key and close it. Immediately when I go into setting > application manager > running apps I still see a facebook process running. Technically i guess this should be gone i guess and hence any idea how to clean these which i guess can improve battery life.
Update: If I have notifications turned on in facebook then yes it can still run some process even after I close it in Apps Tab but I see the same with Samsung Music Player i.e after I close it I still see a thread in "Running" Apps.

These kind of apps do tend to run a background process to check for updates. Closing the app doesn't necessarily mean that the processes will close. And I'm not even sure even if you turn off all the notification services of an app, all the related processes will close for sure, it depends. Also, if you are using apps like facebook etc, do not worry much about the battery life if you have turned off the background data usage and notification services. It will have very minimal impact, almost negligible!

How Can I Turn Off Lock Screen Ads?

Hello,
Every once in a while I get the Yelp! sponsored ad on the lock screen. I've tried turning it off from the Settings of the Blinkfeed (as I saw it supposedly worked with previous HTCs) but it doesn't on the 10. Anyone know the answer to my question?
Thanks,

I've never once had ads on my lockscreen. You must have some bad app that's sending you ads via notifications.

Not sure if you have it but es file explorer will cause ads on the lock screen with its own quick charge screen. Haven't had any since I uninstalled it.
I already turned off 'interest based ads' from Settings>Personalize>Manage Ads. By the way, I use the Google Now Launcher, so the Manage Ads option only shows when I have Sense Home selected as the default launcher. I'm still getting yelp ads in the lock screen.

That app recently had an update that had some lock screen bs included. Had a battery icon on it and all.
There's another app I had a couple months back that did the same thing too. If you have sense apps ads disabled , it's likely an app that turned spammy.
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
Its definitely not from the stock software. My wife had the same thing happen last week on her note. It took a while but found out it was PIP software for taking selfies. Here is a great article that should help get rid of them. http://www.slashgear.com/android-ads-on-your-lockscreen-and-how-to-destroy-them-05438921/. It lists some common sources for these ads:
• Amber Weather Widget
• ES App Locker
• GO apps (of note: GO Weather, GO SMS, GO Keyboard, Next Browser)
• Kingo Root
• KittyPlay Wallpapers, Ringtones
• TouchPal apps (TouchPal makes multiple keyboard apps)
• Xender (file transfer app)
• Zero Team apps (of note: Z Camera)
The yelp and restaurant ads are because you enabled personalization in sense home. It's tracking your location and usually offering restaurants nearby.

I figured it out, no thanks to Verizon IT. It's a google ad. Go to your chrome browser. Click on the three dots, Settings, Site Settings, Cookies, uncheck "allow third-party cookies" box. BOOM!
I just started getting the exact same kind of ads! Cannot find any information on the Internet about how to eliminate them.
Some flashlight apps throw ads like that, have you got a flashlight app?

I've been using Solid Explorer since ES started with all of that junk, maybe a year ago or so...? I did try the Chrome suggestion from above (the third party cookies tick box) and so far so good. Thanks to all for all of the posts! Much appreciated!
