not only am I stupidly new to the android scene, this phones accessories are medieval at best. The screen protector they offer for this phone is basically a piece of plastic that doesn't cover the entire front end of the phone and instead barely covers the screen part... major fail (hopefully someone will post a link to an aftermarket one that does a better job covering the entire front end all the way up to the speaker). Furthermore, the default screenprotector you can buy is still glared up and smugable. If you get the G2 anti smuge/glare screen protector it actually fits and does a better job but still doesn't cover the entire front of the phone as I'd like.
the rubber band / gel case makes me squirm. I had an ottercase for my iphone and felt goooood about it. I really want someone to make a case that protects this phone and the camera on the back, at least with a screen protector for the cam as well because its huge and easily scratchable.
anyhow..
some one make us some good accessories PRONTO!
As far a screen protectors go...I have always used Phantomskinz.com Their products always have perfect fitment and last a long time. From what I understand, they should have some for our device sometime next week. You have to have some level of comfort to apply them though...like ghost armor, BSE and all the rest, you have to use water or a soapy solution to apply it.
As for cases...I have been keeping an eye on ebay. Like yourself...I think the floppy silicon cases are complete rubbish. I have used the "TPU" cases on several of my devices and have had nothing but great things to say about them. They offer some impact resistance and do not add to the bulk of the device hardly at all...plus they are usually about $5.00 shipped

I will only speak for the screen and say that a screen protector simply isn't needed. Every time someone asks me what screen protector I use on my Nexus I take out my keys, scratch the screen and tell them that I don't use any. Same goes for the MT4G. I've heard that it has Gorilla glass but it the screen is at least as good as the N1. For the record, I scratched it with my keys and it looks as good as it did out of the box. As far as the body goes, that's all you. I prefer my phones in their birthday suits if possible.
AFAIK no gorilla glass (pyrex) on the MT4G
i had protector on my g1, but my N1 was naked (sept for the cute little condom for it that came in the box). never had any issues... the screen (well protective screen cover) on both is pretty robust... the MT4G even has dimpling on it to prevent glare (examine carefully in the sun if you dont believe me)
the smudges on this phone have been making me squirm though...
My screen protector on my mytouch 4g covers the entire width and length of my phone... ffc is cut out tho..
You refer to the iPhone , as a previous iPhone 4 owner, i honestly feel the mt4g BLOWS THE IPHONE 4 COMPLETELY AWAY IN EVERY AREA AND ASPECT.....

@igni1ed:
Get yourself some Realook screen protectors and you'll be set. They are available on Amazon at $11 for a pack of 2. I used them on my Vibrant and just ordered a set for the MT4G. If you apply them correctly (i.e., without air bubbles or dust particles underneath), you won't even be able to tell that there's a screen protector on your phone.
Anyone else waiting for a viable alternative than the current screen protector available?
Flex HD and Zagg look good, but they have many drawbacks, and the adhesive protectors do not offer any full screen protection. I am aware that it is due to the curved nature of the gorilla glass but surely someone would be able to make an adhesive protector which simply curves around the edges? (the edges would be uniform on all S3's so I do not see a problem there)
Does anyone have news of any upcoming screen protectors?
I assume there is nothing to come then

wet apply screen protectors that cover the screen are going to be a soft material and hence more grippy and rubbery.
dry apply ones which are hard will only be able to cover the whole screen if they where made curved out of the factory to custom fit the S3. the cost for tooling and manufacture and for packaging will prob put off manufacturers making them. plus if they aren't the right curve or angle then it won't fit properly. so theoretically it is possible, but due to the complexity i doubt they will be produced.
forgive me if i am wrong but i think current screen protectors all come off one line when being made, then just cut to the specific shape for each phone. but if you were to make a custom curved one, then a whole production line would just be making those ones making it much more expensive.
I bought one from ebay...
XtremeGuard Screen Protector/Shield - Galaxy s3
I am not happy with the quality. I have ordered from them in the past and have had no issues. Now the material seems a lot thinner and my tpu case keeps pushing up the sides...So stay away if you are using a TPU case
I kind of asked similar question, but for now, there is none except for wet screen protector. If you are looking for a dry screen protector, SGP Ultra Nano Clear might be the best one. I saw this review, and it looks almost invisible because it's thin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741650
Had a Chat with Spigen, turns out they are in fact developing a new screen protector but as they are in talks with their manufacturer they cant give any solid details. Here is the Message they sent me:
"Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Spigen.com Customer Service Department.
Hi, my name is Diana from Spigen.com.
Thank you for your interest in our products! We are currently developing a new screen protector for the Galaxy S3, unfortunately, because nothing has been confirmed with the manufacturers at the moment, there is not much information we can provide as to what kind of screen protector it may be. However, please continue to check our website, facebook, and twitter pages for updates on all of our products from time to time.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Thank you.

Old thread lol but ill bump it up. I have the Xtremeguard from ebay ($2 shipped) and its pretty good, lot better that the zagg ive had in the past, and alot cheaper lol. Almost no orange peel look (very minimal). It is indeed kinda grippy at first but after usage it smooth outs enough. Feels good now, still slight grippy effect but smooth while texting or whatnot
How about one that offers more than scratch protection. How about one that can keep the screen from shattering when dropped on gravel from five feet face down!
DBA is a lesser-known company specializing in phone cases and screen protectors. One of their newer products, the "Just Like Glass®" screen protector promises to be the best screen protector you'll ever have.
Here's what Scott of DBA has to say about the screen protector:
We also had an independent third party test directly against ZAGG and destroyed them.
Testing with Laser Beams for distortion, regular glass of course had 0, Just Like Glass had 11.50, and Zagg had 666.
ZAGG doesn't even claim to increase the break resistance of the glass while ours has tested for an increase of near 40%.
In a wear test equivalent to putting it in and out of your pocket ZAGG showed wear after 345 times and our showed no wear even after 10,000.
ZAGG is more scratch resistant but at the cost of creating the distortion. And the difference isn't that great.
Just like glass screen protectors are stain proof. You can get makeup on the, dirt, oil, dye, etc... and you can wipe it off. ZAGG you can't. I personally tested ours with a black sharpie (not really the best decision looking back on it) and it did come off with a little elbow grease.
As far as being smoother than glass, if you use glass as the baseline Just Like Glass is 20% smoother while ZAGG was -147%. You can really feel it.
Ours don't have the orange peel effect that ZAGG does.
I wouldn't be doing this at all if I didn't have something that I would use and that was better than everything else.

It's a wet-application (like ZAGG), but the included application kit makes it easy. This protector covers the viewing area, allowing it to work with cases perfectly.
It looks very promising and costs only $13.50 (by comparison, the ZAGG protector is $14.99).
Here's the site: DBA "Just Like Glass®"
I had a heck of a time getting it out of the plastic and in the process it got dimples from trying to pull it out. I contacted them to see if they will get a replacement sent out what a bad experience because they decided to make the plastic bag it comes in too damn tight with no leeway at all. The other con I noticed is it says to use a hard card but it does not come with one so I used the squeeze I have from Skinomi that I used on the Transformer Prime tablet.
Now I do have to admit it does feel like glass and not the soft rubbery feel I am use to with my mothers Skinomi. I always hate how the Skinomi drags on the tablet but this no drag at all. I will let you know how customer support is like after contacting them for a replacement for this one that got dimpled getting it out of the too tight plastic bag. Next time I will use a knife to cut the bag instead of trying to pull it out.
Oh and one more thing no sensitivity decrease at all that I can tell. I will try to get some pictures of it with my mothers camera to post but just to let you know it just a few mm larger than the screen so only covers the screen so great for cases.
I also tested the permanent marker on a piece of the excess plastic that I pulled it from and the marker after drying wiped right off so definitely appears to hold up to the claim of stain proof.
I guarantee you they will have issues calling it glass. You guys have no idea how dumb people are when it comes to these things.
Now I'm curious.
How was the fit on the screen? Full to the edge coverage? Custom cutouts or just a chunk cut out?
I'm interested in this. Anyone else who bought willing to share?
Ok here is the pictures I promised. BTW I was not able to attach the pictures here got a security token was missing error.. any idea why? I was only able to attach picture by uploading from a picture site like Photobucket. Anyways I think I did a pretty good job of these pictures and you will see the 3 blemishes/dimples I caused pulling the protector out of the plastic but it came out better than I thought it would for only my second wet application install.
The fit is just about 1-2 mm larger than the screen so it only covers the screen and really works well with my case. The case is quite narrow for one with a kickstand and been very happy with the $10 purchase for it.

Everyone in every retail setting will tell you customers are dumb. Letting those customers know on a forum is a bad thing for your business.
From the DBA website, it appears that this is a fairly new company; a start-up by one individual. Do we have any independent evaluation of his claims regarding his screen protector and cases?
So this only covers the screen area and not the full frontal glass?

Yes just like the pictures show. You can see the edges on the top down view of the phone. It's the area I was worried about and it is not rubbery or tacky like on my mothers Skinomi.

Just Like Glass Screen Protectors
Hey all,
I'm not really new but I tend to post on other forums. I come here for the good stuff on rooting.
I'm the CEO of DBA Cases, Inc.
I did start the company, however I had several investors. After having an Original Droid, a Bionic, and a Galaxy Nexus I had a very good idea of what people liked.
Personally I hated screen protectors and was not going to sell one until we came up with this. I have it on my phone and love it. It protects against breaks as well - my photographer asked me why I went into making cases so I took the phone out of the case and it squirted out of my hand - hit the wall and then our tile floor. No damage at all to the phone but a very small micro scratch on the Just Like Glass Protector. It probably would have shattered. I've found that the most you can do is give it micro scratches - you can't feel them or see them with the screen on. That's what I got from the fall and it doesn't bother me at all.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I completely understand. I wanted to put a kickstand on the Ultra but it would have been too bulky. Also the cost of adding a kickstand is nearly the same amount as making the mold for the case.
I have a different solution I use.
I'm planning on making my own stand but I have them wherever I may need it.

The Ultra and the Thin Grip
Please ignore the mess behind them.
The case does not look that much skinnier than the Amaze I am using which does have a kickstand.
Promising
Looks pretty cool. How does it keep your screen safe? doest it last well?
SSHGuru said:
How can you tell how thin the cases are from my picture
Stands must be made out of polycarbonate or abs in order to hold the case up. That means some bulk. It doesn't have to be a ton but I looked into a ton of stands and didn't decide to do it.
I wanted to - in fact I was going to make a stand of the same material they use in snap watches would would be made of TPU. Press a button and the stand comes out and can bend.
Problem is that it increases the cost of the case by at least $10,000. In fact I was talking to the CEO of another case company last week and he said it took three molds to make his stand. That's a ton of money.
Since I had a budget I decided to do without - some day.
Both of my cases could not be any thinner than they are.

I was looking at the depth where the camera lens is. Yes it is a thinner but I was just commenting not that much thinner considering that the Amaze is a bit thicker with the kickstand. I really am impressed how thin the Amaze is with a kickstand as most are bulky considerably with a kickstand. The sides look the same almost in width as yours but the back is probably about twice as thick as yours due to the kickstand. It may not be a very strong kickstand but strong enough for regular use as long as don't drop it with it out as it has the really skinny piece of support plastic that holds it open the other part of the kickstand is quite thick. The stand itself is about 2mm thick and the plastic support is only I would say about 1mm thick.
Now the screwdriver portion was not that impressive as there is no way to tell how much force is being used each time. But the screwdriver and rotary was quite impressive as there was no getting around how hard the screen was being hit by that key. The only thing I notice is the oil from my hands tends to smudge the screen more than the glass but for the protection I can live with that but would be nice if they found a way to eliminate some of the smudges with it. Other than that really happy with the screen and registering on the site for the replacement so I can get this one replaced without the 4 dimple spots. BTW a video installing it would be a good idea I used the shower method in bathroom for dust and lint.

We are going to do a video soon for installing but the instructions on the site are the newest versions. Doing it in the shower is the safest method but if I suggest it people probably will freak out about how hard it is when it's really pretty easy.
In the video that was a glass puncher. I know it's hard to tell how hard it's being pushed but it's the same force. One is done on the film which stops the force and one on the glass which does not. The key test was pretty intense and then taking the rotary to it was cool. (if people are wondering it's on the Facebook page).
Samsung with the Galaxy Nexus and the S3 have made great glass that doesn't pick up prints. The one irritation about the protector I have is that it does. Not terribly but I'm used to not worrying about it. We are working on a way to get rid of the micro scratches and the fingerprints. The problem is if we add a layer it makes it feel more plastic and ruins the visibility. It has to be a chemistry solution and I didn't take chemistry in college so I just ask them to try...

I wonder how these screen protectors compare to the ZAGG EXTREME
Ok - so I've had the total equipment coverage from verizon on all my phones for years. Never had a single claim. We're now on our 3rd S3 in 2 months - it seems when it drops it really likes to drop on it screen and shatter.
Any ideas on accessories to help protect it better??
I had the xgear case/gorilla glass cover (4mm), but that didn't seem to last either - and I thought that was one of the more durable options. I'm not that clumsy (as evidenced by years of droids, blackberries, etc. and never breaking one...ever!) - so I'm frustrated and trying to figure out what can I do to better protect my device from drops.
It may just be a row of bad luck, but I really don't want to have to drop more money on replacement phones.
Any suggestions are welcome & thanks in advance!
I don't know what the "xgear case/gorilla glass cover" is. Is it a skin? If not, I recommend getting a screen skin. My assumption is that it helps hold the glass together - if that makes sense? Of course, that's an assumption. Maybe it spreads out the force of the impact. Not a scientist here but ... my screen is intact and I have dropped the phone.
well.... the biggest thing that makes the S3 seem really prone to shattering is that it's pretty much as "edge to edge" as the glass can get. On the vast majority of other phones, there was always a bit of a bezel around the glass that would also absorb some impact... but on the S3, the glass curves at the edge and basically starts the bezel before the plastic bits. So when you drop it, there's a slightly higher chance of it hitting the glass first.
For protection options... i'm not really sure to be honest, as i've never really had an issue with dropping my phones. cheap eBay TPU cases are usually the thickest i use. I'm even tempted to go completely naked with my S3... but it does help to have a little bit of a grippyness to the phone.

Well from a quick google search the case you were using a a bumper case which is pretty much useless against drops imho. Here is the deal, you have to choose what you want, a thick as case that will protect the phone or a slim case that makes the phone look pretty and does little to protect it.
From reading what you posted it seems like you need a thick ass case.

It depends on how careful you are with your phone, but I would definitely recommend a case and screen protector to avoid getting scratches, if nothing else.

That depends on how much protection you want and if you mind covering up the back of the phone (it's nicer than most phones so some people rather not).

I never have much issue with screen scratches (usually) but I'd still err on the side of caution and do at the very least a screen protector. I'm going to replace my ZAGG (which I'm hoping is just scratched and not a crack on the screen ) with one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors with the rounded edges.

TPU skin is good enough if you have good reflexes.
While it is falling, you'll probably break its fall by hitting it up. Plus you can find absolutely clear TPU skins.
A case is a must, screen protector is not.
What I do is whenever I get a brand new phone, I always start with a good protective case and a screen protector. After a few months, I gradually get thinner cases and usually end up with those 0.3-0.5mm thin cases that makes the phone feel nice and less bulky. If you plan to rock the phone naked, I'd recommend a phone pouch.

Thank you very much for the quick response I'm still searching for a good frame or case, is it true that the origin HTC bi color case leaves scratches on the phone I won't believe it .....?! I also hope that the black version is scratch resistant some people said not......I just talked with a Vodafone assistant to change the black against the silver but he said to me that himself have the black one and I looks quite better and after two month usage without any case he have no scratches. I'll take the black one, it comes next week and I will give you a first impression.

Its not REALLY a must IMO. The phone actually holds up very well. Yesterday i purposefully put the phone in the same pocket with a bunch of coins and it scratched the aluminum but the scratches wiped right off. If you drop things than that would be a different story at aluminum can easily dent :good:
That was my point also ... it looks a little exaggerated to say that a case is a must.
I intend to use the phone "naked" indoors. Any case will practically ruin the nice feeling of the phone itself. Of course, if you drop it then there are chances to ruin the nice finish.
I'm also using the phone outdoors, fr sports. For that purpose I ordered a trident kraken ams ... I hope it will do the job.
P.S.: I saw that a OEM housing is "only" 50 bucks, free shipping ... I guess I'll buy one just in case .
I would say that if you carry your phone in your pocket a case is a must. I generally like to go case-less (especially with a phone this pretty), but after having my One slip out of my pocket on a couple of occasions, I ended up getting a case (Poetic Atmosphere; the rubberized edges keep it from slipping out). If you intend on getting a pouch of some sort, I think case-free is fine.
Also, I don't have a screen protector and have no scratches, though I tend to be pretty gentle with my phones.

On Etradesupply, the OEM housing is only like 30 bucks.
I say a TPU case is a must because:
1) You WILL drop it at some point, it's anodized AL, not grippy plastic.
2) The case provides a lip, so if you put your phone face down, the screen won't touch the surface & scratch from w/e dirt is there.
3) The case will also keep the camera lens (or the anodized back) from touching any surfaces.
4) I wear a ring, and if I don't put a case on, the ring scratches ONTO the phone. That's not good.
If you're REALLY careful, then none of these matter. but it's hard to be perfect.
Besides, when I'm in bed, I can just quickly remove the case for a little bit. It feels nice.
This phone is just too good looking to cover up, IMO. I've been going naked since day one I don't have a single scratch on it. The aluminum housing is solid and whatever glass HTC used really resists scratching. My One X screen got covered in microscratches pretty quickly, but I haven't seen anything on this phone.
Just treat it with care and you can forget the case. CNET tried to destroy their test phone and couldn't do it.
I have a double dip case bought at once with the phone. Well .. the feeling simply does not compare with the case on. It just loos cheap and plastic'ish ... is worse than galaxy S4 actually. So, with all the risks involved I will go "naked" while in normal use and I will use the kraken ams for outdoors. That's all ...
I only like corner protection. I don't care about the back.
I used to have a screen protector on this but I don't like it, it doesn't make the display look as nice. I have since taken it off and have not gotten any scratches, not even micro ones. I think this display is more tough than previous GG2 screens. I had the ONE X+ and it scratched easily.
