How much of the 3gb memory will be available for use? Nexus 10 announced to have 2gb, but after buying it I realized actual available memory is 1.1gb. So, the question is, will same do the same thing?

If yes, maybe 2.3-2.5...
For example, HTC One have 2 GB of ram, but you can use 1.5.
So, we have to see when the tablet is released
The purpose of having RAM in your phone/computer etc is to increase performance. You don't increase the performance by leaving the ram free. You use it.

i think most people here should understand that if you're not using your ram then it's wasted. but i think he wants to know how much is available to apps after the gpu and system take their share.
someone posted a screenshot in one of the threads and i thought it was somewhere around 2.3GB.

I tried searching for this one and couldn't come up with any good answers on here, but it's something that I've been wondering since I got the G2. I've noticed that no matter what rom I use, the total memory in settings>about phone never shows up more than 400mb. I can't be sure of the exact amount for all the roms I've tried in the past, but I remember thinking it peculiar, although thinking about the internal memory and the fact that it was advertised as 4gb and only registers as 1.2gb, I was thinking maybe this is a similar thing?

You buy a computer for 400 and in order to play crysis you need to have 2000 total dollars.
The 400 is for the computer, 50 of that is for crysis and the remaining 1550 is used to increase your computers everything just to freaking play that graphic hog game..

i think he's just saying that the OS is using up the other resources
compare it with a sony PSP.. since it doesn't run a lot of programs in the background, it can play graphics intensive games with such low clocked cpu and less ram compared to mobile phones
BTW i know you are talking about the physical memory but just wanted to bring it out there

This has *ABSOLUTELY NOTHING* to do with the "missing 2GB".
The question is about RAM, not storage.
Most relevant example;
You buy a new computer with an integrated video adapter. You go into the BIOS configuration program and it has an option to change the amount of RAM being allocated to the GPU -- 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, or 512 MB. You have 4 GB total and set the GPU to 512 MB. When you boot into your operating system, you only see 3.5 GB. Where is the missing 0.5 GB? Its allocated to the GPU.
In addition to allocating a whole bunch to the GPU, these phones are actually TWO COMPUTERS (with two separate CPUs) that run two different operating systems concurrently. The first one is the RADIO system, responsible for messing with the wireless. The second one is the APPLICATION system, which runs the user operating system and interface (Android). They share a common pool of RAM, so some of it is allocated to the RADIO, some is allocated to the GPU (and other media components), and only what remains is available to Android.

oopsie you're right.. i guess the PSP comparison is the one applicable then haha
he's absolutely right, the other ram is for the OS itself and the rest is for your other apps. this makes the phone silky smooth when running tasks unlike my touch pro 2 before, which has a very low ram plus all the "memory leakage" but it still has the best keyboard

Hey guys!
I noticed in the specifications of this phone, it claims to have 0.50gb of RAM (512mb) However all your kernels are around 370 of under?
Is this mistake in the specifications or are you lowering Ram for some strange reason unknown to me?
I'm using liquid smooth build#2 at the moment, but i'm only getting around 99mb free Ram.. I don't know why but it seems the Phone has less Ram then i initially thought.. However, i don't have any scripts going at the moment, i don't need battery, so any " and it's good on battery " will be respectively ignored.
I have looked around but not really found a decent enough set up for this phone yet.. Can someone please recommend me a kernel for 4.2.2 which is fast, and responsive, but also one with good Ram?
And can someone recommend some scripts worth using with this Phone? Again, don't go on about battery or SD life or phone life, idc about it, it's a spare phone..
Thanks in advance guys, could you provide me with links as well if it's not too much trouble? I prefer being directed straight to the point so i don't end up using the wrong Kernel/script..
Edit1: I'm not changing Rom. At all. unless you get an updated Carbon or 4.3.

Seems noone is willing to reply, but this probably because some searching and logical thinking would answer your questions. So since you are not willing to do it yourself others don´t mind replying to you.
So well I don´t use any scripts but regarding RAM size think about it. If you buy a PC with lets say 2GB installed RAM. Will you get also 2GB free ram by running an Operating System on it?

If you were to purchase 2gb of ram likelyhood is you will recieve 1.59+- usable Ram, free Ram would be totally different, however the way it was presented, and the way i portrayed it was thet the Ramdisk of the kernel was at 370+-, rather then 512.. I'm using a Desire C, which is running CM10 with 300mb free ram, with a 512mb ram disk, whereas with hurtskys kernel 3.0.x i get 99mb free? on 4.2.2 on my golfu i got 270mb free ram, and that was a Rom of 250mb+ and it's only at 767mhz.. yet seems smoother then the SGW? :s On paper it should be the other way around..
dun think u should worry about free ram.
android is based on linux, linux memory concept is different from other OS.
it something like " free memory is waste memory".
memory is always filled and hold so tat it wont waste time to reload.
if need more memory, system will free memory for other usage.

You should first read what a ramdisk is. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ramdisk
The 270+MB in hurtskys or my kernel is the real RAM aviable. The rest is reserved for the ROM, camera, drivers and processes to work correctly.

What is the current situation on the amount of free RAM available in the 2GB version of this phone? Does it still have only around 500MB available after cleaning the RAM, or has this been improved by software updates?
I'm thinking about getting the 2GB RAM version of the G3, but I'm concerned about the amount of RAM that's actually usable on this device for apps, and not system related stuff. I have read in previous threads that there is only around 500 MB of free RAM available on this phone after rebooting, which would be unacceptable for me as much older devices such as the Note 2 and the Nexus 5 have about 1.3GB RAM available for apps. Even my 3 year old Galaxy S3 has 300MB and it constantly gives me issues by closing apps while I'm multitasking and I don't want to relive that with the next phone.
Don't give me the "free ram is wasted ram" speech as I do intend on keeping the RAM full, but with apps that matter to me and my multitasking.

With greenify I have around 800mb free ram after reboot
Phone has been on for about 12 hours, I just closed all apps and I have around 600mb free.
On my rooted D855 running 10H, I usually have 450-500MB of RAM free (without me killing anything or using any greenify apps or such). I find even with "only" 2GB of RAM, my G3 can handle all the multitasking I throw at it. I don't find myself wishing that my phone had more RAM. It's not something to get too worried over.
VS985 here. Probably not the info you're looking for as my model comes with 3GB, but immediately after clearing RAM I had 1.2GB available. However, I've noticed over the past 9 days of owning this device I'm usually hovering between 500MB-800MB of free RAM after using it (and many different apps) for an extended period of time.

You do know that free ram isn't a factor on performance with Android right? Also get rid of your bloat. My L90 has almost 400 free all the time and i have a gig of ram.

But my xiaomi redmi 1s has 400mb free ram and my super expensive S6 EDGE only has 500mb left after I clear the RAM
And no ... bloatware removal and everything don't help
It makes my Chrome browser reload reload reload reload reload the page over and over and over and over again

First you tell him RAM no matter for performance - which is utter nonsense & one simple bit of proof on that is the fact since day 1 of the first Droid phone - 2009 - we have gone from 256 to 512 to 1gb to 2gb to 3gb & some are about to push 4gb RAM. If it's not a performance benefit why is that 1 spec that has & does continued to grow? Because it SERIOUSLY matters for performance.

Free ram does not matter as I was saying. if your phone is laggy the main reason for this will be the BLOAT that is installed by your carrier or the os itself. Ram works differently in android than it does on windows and other operating systems. so as I said FREE RAM. doesn't matter as long as you have enough on it for whatever programs you are running. 1 gig works just fine for everything I do. Then again I don't game on my phone, I do that on a computer or a console.

2. you did not answer my question as to why RAM numbers keep going up yearly and have since the first Droid? If it is of no value, why add cost by adding more? Of all the things a phone maker can and does do, why keep adding RAM and yet, for example, drop the MicroSD?
3. And, if bloat removal is the answer.. why? I will tell you why.. they are eating RAM. If it is not that, then why worry about bloat? Of course, you can worry about bloat if you are low on storage, but assume storage is fine (you have 20 of 32gb free for example). Ok, remove bloat and then what? How did it benefit you? It benefitted you by not having apps using RAM - simply put. Which pretty much is saying performance is impacted by bloat which impacts available RAM which impacts performance so cut out your bloatware and improve performance and... free up more RAM.
ps - I don't game either, I'll take more RAM any day.
Ok I have an LG G4 ATT. Fresh factory reset. All bloatware disabled or removed if able. Nothing installed at all yet. OS updated to current release. Straight simple stock phone. No accounts set for anything. phone uses 2.7g of RAM available. Phone turned on with brand new battery dies at 7% in 10min. 3batterys all new tested. Issue is the excessive amount of RAM being used. Android os alone shouldn't kill a phone. This is point blank fact. Phone stated battery life is trashed and is pointless of even mentioning if the RAM issue doesn't matter. Bottom line. Theirs a issue. Developers or manufacturers of these phones needs to quit worrying about making all this money just by adding more RAM. RAM is used in same way as a PC. (Random Access memory) not (ready available memory)
And just a say to these companies making new phones. Make the phones for the people that's buying them not to add money to ur pockets. A non removable battery? Why even think that will make things better? Batteries go bad. We all know this. Removing the micro SD slots. Blocking us from using the SD as a write disk. Oh i forgot. Companies making these phone want only our money. Got ya. GSM-Arena says the minimum RAM is 3 GB and the minimum storage is 32 GB, max is 4 GB and 128 GB and that's what I relied on. But then somewhere else I saw the specs you mentioned. I know Android hasn't used SD card memory well in the past. Music and apps and DRM-protected downloads were tied to internal memory and so 32 GB of internal memory was a minimum for me. But since Marshmallow those limits on SD storage are (supposedly) lifted and/or debugged.
So, I dunno. Try it, buying from a place that allows returns, and post what happens.

I saw a lot of post about Helium and Hydrogen but no one for the 2GB version. I am afraid to buy it and not be able to find a way to root it or flash a new rom (eg Cyanogen)...

I would go with the 32 GB version as youâ??ll get 1 extra gig of ram. Miui used quite a bit of it. I run mi max with miui 8 beta. Phone has been on for about a day. And I've got about 600 GB of ram free. I don't really use ram cleaner as it can mess with Androids memory managment. With two gigs of ram I think there will be more apps that get purged from memory i.e worse multitasking. Also the extra storage is kind of sweet.
I would not go for the snapdragon 652. Even though its a beast. Remember that its a bigLittle SoC. So during normal operation the 4x a53 cores will do most of the work. The two extra a72 cores wont really make that much of a difference. Games are still single threaded.. The only motivation is the 4gb of ram and the bigger e-penis.
