From what ive read the Nitro and the spectrum are nearly the same, id like to know if ts possible to run nitro roms on the spectrum? cdma isnt important to me i use the gsm capabilities of the spectrum but unfortunately there isnt much development
I heard the partitions are different, so no, it would most likely result in a brick.

I have done some rummaging around these forums and, correct me if I am mistaken, found that they are the same thing, except they are running different "Roms" or "kernels" ( I don't know the right terminology)
If that is true, and if the hardware is exactly identical, does that mean I can go to the Desire Z part of the XDA forums and download and install anything from there, including ROMS?
And if that is the case, why make two separate forum groups for practically the same phone?

I would believe they are the same but I think the Desire Z has the 4GB internal. That us G2 owners were promised
If you did a search several threads like this already exists.
But to answer your question they are basically the same phone.
Before root and s-off they run on different setup's
G2 - runs on Vanilla android and as a result has a smaller /system partition as vanilla is smalelr
Z - runs on htc sense, this takes a lot of apk's and as a result the phone has a larger /system partition.
They both have slightly different key layouts on the hardkeys
after s-off they are theoretically the exact same device as all differences can be changed.
Custom roms will work on both and kernels will work on both etc etc

Good question. Apparently the mods are looking into it. Basically the main differences are ROM differences, not hardware. So just like with any different device you can get ROM incompatiblity issues. But that's no reason to keep the forums separate though, other devices don't have separate forums for separate ROMs.

Not true. The DZ and G2 have exactly the same memory. 4 GB in theory but setup from the factory to present 2 GB to the rest of the hardware. Just advertised somewhat misleadingly by T-Mobile.
Another major difference is the UMTS band support. The G2 only supports 1700/2100. The Desire Z only supports 900/2100. The Desire Z NAM (or Bell version) only supports 850/1900.
Though I guess this shouldn't affect the use of custom ROMs (though as stated earlier, the differing partition sizes might).

but after s-off you can amend the partition sizes anyway if you have to
Can flashing a new ROM edit the partition table for you? (Though a computer engineer by trade, I'm a recent changeover from the world of WinMo phones and am still learning Android-specific stuff.)
If not, I'd imagine users who are not so carefeul simply flashing ROMs without knowing if it'll fit in their system partition (like a G2 user trying to flash a stock Sense from the Desire Z or something like that). Though as you said, easily avoidable with a little research.

well stock sense ruu's won't flash and won't fit on a g2
however I believe currently all custom sense roms do fit on the g2's partition table anyway.
But yes you can build a rom that will change the partition table, although no one has for the G2 yet.
only difference i see is stock android vs sense android. I think this is an advantage as most people like switching between the two from time to time.
I don't understand, there are 3 different version of this phone, if not more. The I9100 is what? The international version? This is obviously the T-Mobile version, but are we able to use ROM's from any of the other versions of these phones? Maybe with some simple porting?
I don't have this phone yet, but will most likely get it in the next few weeks, and would like to know my options before upgrading...
TIA!
Firstly, I9100 and tmo (T989) have different chipsets and cpus. I9100 uses Enyxos cpus while t989 uses snapdragon. Their roms are very different and would not work with each other because of the chipset and cpus.
I do not believe I have seen a i9100 rom ported to t989. The skyrocket (another sgs2 variant), I have read that their roms can be used with the t989 but the auto rotation is a bit messed up. The safest thing to do is stick to the t989 roms and kernels.
does nitro HD have one?
never saw this but found a link

No, it doesn't. That site is also wrong about FM radio (it doesn't have one) and gyroscope sensor (it does have one).

That whole comparison is kinda strange. They really ding the Nitro for slower download and upload speeds, but both the Nitro and Skyrocket use the same Qualcomm SoC, which includes the cellular radio. They should be almost exactly the same if tested at the same time, on the same network, connected to the same tower. I think whatever testing was done wasn't exactly scientific. The battery life was a odd too, it looks like they took the time straight from LG (probably underestimated) and Samsung (probably overestimated) specifications directly. They also give the edge in display to the Skyrocket, even with its much lower resolution and PPI.
Anyways, on the original topic, the Nitro might have an FM transmitter. Someone asked about the P903s FM radio on Ricardo Cerqueira's Google+...
Hem Acharya - Thanks a lot. Just a quick query. By any chance is p930 going to have fm radio functionality discovered and enabled?
Ricardo Cerqueira - No idea, and it's not a priority...
FWIW, CM9 doesn't currently support FM at all, and even in CM7 we don't have FM support for the bcm4330 chip the p930 has.

They're probably talking about FM radio reception and not transmission but either way, even if the hardware is there, there doesn't like any software support coming in the near future.
it's a good news? lg6200 can flash lg spectrum (vs920) boot/recovery image ,because same hardware configuration, and into lg home success, sensor is ok , but has some problems: wifi is fail, telephone quality is bad, communication with hands-free each other can't hear voice, usb storage is invalid, these should be kernel driver problems. The above test information for your reference...
lg6200 already had ics engineer version.it means 3.0.8 kernel had.
only difference network(4G vs GSM/WCDMA/LTE).any good suggest?

There looks to be a few hardware differences according to this.
http://www.mobilesmspk.net/compare/lg-optimus-lte-lu6200/lg-spectrum-vs920
It looks like they use different LTE bands and the 6200 supports HSDPA+ while the Spectrum does not.

Difference in 3G/4G band support doesn't really matter as far as ROMs are concerned.
I don't know if these two phones are the same, but I wouldn't base my conclusion on that site you linked to. Sites like that are useful for basic comparisons but often have some of the specific details wrong.
I recently purchase a epic 4g, and to my surprise look on phonearena.com to compare it to the nexus S. I found this is what the have in common:
Same processor clocked at same speed
Same screen(epic 4g is slightly bigger)
Same cameras(front and back)
And everything else
Only difference:
Epic 4g's hard keyboard
My questions is, will nexus s roms also work on it, has anyone tried? Thanks

umadbro? In your theory too many HTC phones would have universal ROMs...
Frankly speaking, never. Differences lie in where you can't usually see, like touch panel controller chip, SD card support, baseband (Nexus S is strictly a GSM/HSPA phone, while E4G is CDMA/WiMAX), storage size and partition table, etc... No devices are the same or, say, near-identical enough to make ROMs universal (that is, with the exception of some "unbranded" phones that are shipped to different manufacturers just to make their shells, so hardware could be identical)
However, based on this similarity across all phones with S5PC110 CPU ("aries" board), ROM codes can be shared to a certain extent, and some ROMs can be easily ported from Nexus S 4G to E4G or vice versa.
Satisfied?

Thanks, guess I'll get to porting. I just thought that it might be possible because you can use samsung fasicanate roms on the samsung mesmerize.

No, these are almost identical phones actually (look at the shape and model number). Mesmerize is just a re-carrier-branded Fascinate with (minor) baseband difference.
