I've noticed that there is no automatic time zone option with the current version of 4.3. As a result, when you travel to a different time zone the system clock remains the time zone in which it was set. This appears to be an oversight and causes a problem if automatic time option is on.
I guess no one travels with their n7 to other time zones to realize the problem.
I just figured it was since it was WiFi only it wouldn't automatically update... Though I would think it could use location services to update it. Was on east coast for a couple days last week, on WiFi but it never changed. Use my phone as the alarm so want a huge deal to me.
I can confirm the problem, it's not really convenient

I was beginning to think I was the only one traveling and finding this to be a problem.

i noticed today after my alarm failed to go off and there for making my wife late for work that the time is wrong on my evo.the weather/clock widget displays the correct time but the clock in the top right corner is 11-12 hrs off! if i click the clock and goto current city it shows im in Singapore! im pretty sure im sitting in charlotte, NC. i have turned the gps off and back on and did the same for the automatic switch under date & time. if i reboot the phone it temporarily fixes it but it switches back to wrong city. the widget shows the correct city. any ideas?
Are you rooted?

well i attempted to root using unrevoked but it failed as im using a brand new phone with a unsupported hboot
Had the same problem, turned off the airave.after the time change it stopped working.if not turn off auto update time on phone.
it's could be a problem with your local cell tower, happened to me when I had my Hero, my phone though it was in Seoul, South Korea, when it really was in San Juan. Puerto Rico... problem solved itself a couple of days later

Exact same issue. Just got my Evo yesterday and attempted to root... and no dice. Started acting strange after that. It insists that I'm in Kaisertal.
I assure you, I am most certainly not in Kaisertal.
i did a factory reset shortly after creating this thread yesterday and all seemed great until this morning. it was telling me i was in some country i have never heard of again and almost making me late for work. i turned the auto update off and the location seems correct now. Kinda stupid i have to do this in order for the correct COUNTRY to be selected.
Well, first, I would stop using your Evo as you and your wife's alarm clock if it's making you both late for work! Lol that's no good!
Next, how old is it? Are you within the exchange period?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G.
under a week old
I had the same issue the day after my EVO upgraded with the OTA update. Happened 2-3x that day.
It "appeared" to fix itself as (knock on wood) it has not happened since.

Could having "Allow Mock Locations" checked be causing it?

nope, just checked and it wasnt checked
I knew I shouldn't have said anything. It happened again today. It jumped to 6 hours ahead of what it really was, but it did display the correct city that I was in.
And, for the first time, it rebooted on it's own today too.
WTH is going on with my EVO since the update?

i ended up just turning off autosync time and setting it manually. seems to work fine now, im hesitant to turn it back on though, i got a feeling it will do the same thing as before
mine has been doing this for two days... I spoke with Sprint and they have no answers except to uncheck automatic setting..
Mine now immediately tells me I am on Eastern European Time vice Eastern Standard Time...
This sucks...
Call up Sprint and Google. The issue is with the cellular tower ID. Also, turn on WiFi, GPS, and Google Maps for a while each day to let it get the location.
Happened again to me today, so I turned off the option to sync it with the network and just manually set it.
It is a cell tower issue... Nothing is wrong with your phones. Relax... Sprint will get it fixed soon enough... In the meantime.... Use a real alarm clock.
I have the same problem. Location was set to Minsk in the time zone of Eastern Europe. I am actually located in Southern NJ near Philadelphia. Turning off auto sync fixes the time but the location stays with regard to the sense weather app for a while. Why would multiple sprint towers in different areas all start reporting that they are in Eastern Europe? Never had the problem before the latest ota...

Russian hackers are attacking Sprint's and the FCC's networks, changing the GPS coordinates of where cell towers are registered to.
When I set my Date & Time to Automatic from the network provider, it seems to jump ahead by 10 mins every now and again.
If I uncheck the the Automatic option and the recheck it, the time corrects itself but will them jump by 10 mins after a while.
I have only noticed this since upgrading to 2.3.3.
I am on the Orange network and have an unbranded handset.
Has anyone else noticed this issue? I'm not sure if it is network or 2.3.3 related so would appreciate any info from
It will fix itself eventually. I fixed it by having the wifi on for a while. Turning it off, waiting and then turning it back on again. Seems like a local server issue so just wait it out and keep it connected to wifi for a while and see what happens.

I will give it a try. I usually have my wifi on all the time when i am in the house. I'll monitor it over the next few days and see how it goes.
I have had the same problem since the gingerbread update on my Vodafone Desire HD. I have Wi-fi on all day at home and work and only thing that corrects the time is turning the automatic setting off and on again. Definitely a bug in there somewhere.

That's good to know. Looks like it may not be a network issue then.
Do you have an unbranded handset?
Same here in Australia, but only started to happen last night. I can trigger it by going to the weather app and manually updating the weather. Updating again restores the time to normal.
I have sent a email off to HTC about the issue. Lets see what they say about it.
They seem to be quite active on Facebook these days so I think I'll leave a comment on their page also.
Hopefully will get a reply soon to say it's a bug or that they are investigating it. With past experience in contacting their customer service dept, I'm not holding my breath.
OK people it looks like it's a known issue and HTC are currently working on it. They sent me the following reply on Facebook :
Hi scotia_rfc, it's not an issue caused by the Gingerbread update, we've seen that some handsets are showing the time 10 minutes ahead. We would like to reassure you that we are currently working to rectify this and will have an update for you shortly. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may be causing.

I haven't had this issue. My phone alarm is what gets me up for work, so that would be a big problem.
I have had the same issue since updating to 2.3.3
Definitely seems like it is update related to me - I have a couple of phones synced to an Exchange server so I would have noticed before the update if the clocks were out of sync by 10 minutes as the alarms and reminders would have been going off at different times on the two phones, but since I updated yesterday they go off at different times. If you turn off the automatic update, correct the time and re-enable automatic update then it will sometimes roll on an extra 10 minutes within a few minutes. Seems to roll on more rapidly when moving about so perhaps related to cellular location updates?
Phones are HTC Incredible S (unbranded, s710e from Taiwan), Nokia E5 (not my choice - work phone!)
This may be just a little problem waiting for a fix. I only noticed today that it shows me weird time, but it was automatically updated after a few minutes.

Same here and I'm on o2-UK. I have also found by having WiFi on it corrects itself but surely there is a proper fix ?

If your rooted I'd recommend ClockSync. It works wonders for me. Keeps my time synced with 0.uk.pool.npt.org . You can use any timeserver local to you using http://www.pool.ntp.org/ . Be sure to turn off Automatic in "Time & Date".
Same problem here: Vodafone RO, unbranded DHD on stock 2.3. Strange thing though is that I've only noticed it after rooting my phone a couple of days ago. I don't remember having this issue before rooting.
I found this today! Thought I was going to be late but turned out I was on time but my time was over 20 min ahead of it's self!!!
Un-checking and then checking the automatic time update sorted it out
Global NTP servers are out of sync, so HTC cannot fix that. It will get fixed in no time.

Same, but worse
I have the same issue, so deactivate the automatic update.
But since I upgraded to 2.3.3, I loose both Wifi and phone networks (3G/edge/simple phone) if the device has not been used for about 2 hours. I must switch off "Data" and "Wifi", and switch on again.
Has anyone the same problem ?

Hm. Then why does unticking and reticking the automatic sync fix this problem? I mean, it always gets the time right when doing this, doesn't it mean the servers are fine?
I think i had this problem before i updated.
NOw it asks if i want to automatically update time everytime i reboot
I just woke up and noticed that my phone rolled back 2 hours with the end of DST. I went into the date and time settings and "use network settings" is checked but I noticed the grayed out time zone field says mountain -7 when I'm in central -6. Is this a rom issue, sprint issue, local tower issue, or something else? I'm on SFR1.2 and EF02 radio if it makes a difference.
And it just resolved itself... Weird.
It is clearly Sprint. I manually set it to Eastern time and then click to us network settings (sprint) and it goes back to Central. I am glad today wasn't a work day. I would have been an hour late....Thanks Sprint morons! If they can't handle a simple time change no wonder they can't do an OTA for GB!

Edit: It will correct after a reboot...again Stupid incompetent Sprint!
Since I started using my Wonder I've had the clock set to use network values. Yesterday after battery pull it went out of sync and failed to correct the date and time. I can't seem to get it to sync. Tried several reboots, cleared caches and fix permissions, flight mode nothing works. Any ideas?

Best to set the time n timezone manually then only set to synch. network values...can't really rely on the Telco's value.
In my country my Telco's time is very similar to our Satellite TV provider...so been following it ever since.
The sync. may not be accurate and I sometime believe it is a GB bug coz I had faced it before using CM7 on my HTC Tattoo.
But on the W so far had not faced it...maybe a few minutes of variance.
Why dun you try to remove the battery and let the phone be totally out of power for about ten minutes or so like using a BBerry..
Power back on and let it self auto sync.
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda premium
Tried pulling the battery and leaving it out for several minutes but still couldn't sync properly. It put me 2 days earlier and 3hrs late. I can't seem to force it to sync with the network.

the best solution (tested and approved to work)
clocksync from playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.org.amip.ClockSync&feature=search_result
and its great plug-in "TimeZoneDB for ClockSync"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.org.amip.timezoneservice&feature=search_result
P.S. needs root access
Dont 4gt to hit the thanks button
I am having problems with my new Tmo S3 with the date and time changing on me on a couple of occasions, which is dangerous! I who rely on time so much! Would an app be causing that? I haven't gotten any apps that would do such a thing that I know... Any body out there has experienced the same issue? It changed/reset it to January 1st 2012.
On settings/date and time; I have automatic date and time (Use network-provided time), Automatic time zone (unchecked)...
Even if it wasn't connected to the network, my phone should be resetting the time everytime it wasn't on 3g or wifi! I never experienced this before even on my ATT Galaxy S2. I have a rooted, Stock ICS and Kernel.
