[Q] Time zone/DST issues - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just woke up and noticed that my phone rolled back 2 hours with the end of DST. I went into the date and time settings and "use network settings" is checked but I noticed the grayed out time zone field says mountain -7 when I'm in central -6. Is this a rom issue, sprint issue, local tower issue, or something else? I'm on SFR1.2 and EF02 radio if it makes a difference.

And it just resolved itself... Weird.

It is clearly Sprint. I manually set it to Eastern time and then click to us network settings (sprint) and it goes back to Central. I am glad today wasn't a work day. I would have been an hour late....Thanks Sprint morons! If they can't handle a simple time change no wonder they can't do an OTA for GB!

Edit: It will correct after a reboot...again Stupid incompetent Sprint!

Wrong Time/Location

i noticed today after my alarm failed to go off and there for making my wife late for work that the time is wrong on my evo.the weather/clock widget displays the correct time but the clock in the top right corner is 11-12 hrs off! if i click the clock and goto current city it shows im in Singapore! im pretty sure im sitting in charlotte, NC. i have turned the gps off and back on and did the same for the automatic switch under date & time. if i reboot the phone it temporarily fixes it but it switches back to wrong city. the widget shows the correct city. any ideas?
Are you rooted?

well i attempted to root using unrevoked but it failed as im using a brand new phone with a unsupported hboot
Had the same problem, turned off the airave.after the time change it stopped working.if not turn off auto update time on phone.
it's could be a problem with your local cell tower, happened to me when I had my Hero, my phone though it was in Seoul, South Korea, when it really was in San Juan. Puerto Rico... problem solved itself a couple of days later

Exact same issue. Just got my Evo yesterday and attempted to root... and no dice. Started acting strange after that. It insists that I'm in Kaisertal.
I assure you, I am most certainly not in Kaisertal.
i did a factory reset shortly after creating this thread yesterday and all seemed great until this morning. it was telling me i was in some country i have never heard of again and almost making me late for work. i turned the auto update off and the location seems correct now. Kinda stupid i have to do this in order for the correct COUNTRY to be selected.
Well, first, I would stop using your Evo as you and your wife's alarm clock if it's making you both late for work! Lol that's no good!
Next, how old is it? Are you within the exchange period?

I had the same issue the day after my EVO upgraded with the OTA update. Happened 2-3x that day.
It "appeared" to fix itself as (knock on wood) it has not happened since.

Could having "Allow Mock Locations" checked be causing it?

nope, just checked and it wasnt checked
I knew I shouldn't have said anything. It happened again today. It jumped to 6 hours ahead of what it really was, but it did display the correct city that I was in.
And, for the first time, it rebooted on it's own today too.
WTH is going on with my EVO since the update?

i ended up just turning off autosync time and setting it manually. seems to work fine now, im hesitant to turn it back on though, i got a feeling it will do the same thing as before
mine has been doing this for two days... I spoke with Sprint and they have no answers except to uncheck automatic setting..
Mine now immediately tells me I am on Eastern European Time vice Eastern Standard Time...
This sucks...
Call up Sprint and Google. The issue is with the cellular tower ID. Also, turn on WiFi, GPS, and Google Maps for a while each day to let it get the location.
Happened again to me today, so I turned off the option to sync it with the network and just manually set it.
It is a cell tower issue... Nothing is wrong with your phones. Relax... Sprint will get it fixed soon enough... In the meantime.... Use a real alarm clock.
I have the same problem. Location was set to Minsk in the time zone of Eastern Europe. I am actually located in Southern NJ near Philadelphia. Turning off auto sync fixes the time but the location stays with regard to the sense weather app for a while. Why would multiple sprint towers in different areas all start reporting that they are in Eastern Europe? Never had the problem before the latest ota...

Russian hackers are attacking Sprint's and the FCC's networks, changing the GPS coordinates of where cell towers are registered to.

[Q] Missing Texts and/or Incorrect datestamps

Alright so I have a Samsung Epic running the ACS 1.1.0 rom with ext4 w/ journaling enabled, EC05 Modem with PRL version at 60676.
Problem is that for a while now I've noticed that texts would randomly show the wrong date stamp ie usually ahead a few hours OR I might not just get them at all. I've looked around seen that you should update your PRL and profile to fix that problem, but I've done so and it hasn't seemed to resolve itself. I was running the phone on a PRL 60675 before and didn't see a change. I did run the update of the profile but it doesn't give any sort of success message or indicate anything. Sometimes it'll give a network connection failed or similar type message.
Any ideas at to what this could be. I'm tempted to flash the phone back to stock and run with that, but I really like the ACS rom and have no other ideas what I can do.
When im roaming, and i get a text message, the timestamp is always 6 hours ahead. Its a roaming problem, and im stock unrooted.
[sig]Typed by restless thumbs, that are too tired to help hold my bacon sammiches[sig]
pretty sure this is a tower issue and not a phone issue. that used to happen to me on AT&T, and it was always roaming.
Yeah at this point it seems to be an issue with not the rom. I just flashed to the newest stock gingerbread release from ACS and I just got a text message timestamped 4 hours in the future ;|
Best option is to what? Call sprint? Is it more of an issue with reception in my area or something like that? I'm in the middle of the DFW and I fail to see how I can be roaming unless I'm 4 floors under a parking garage.
I would definitely let sprint know. Sounds like there may be a cell site with a bad timezone setting.

error code 128 data call failure

This has been happening to me for the last couple of days. Out of the blue my phone will pop this error: Data call failure. Error code 128. Unable to establish wireless data connection. I have done some research on this error message and most of the things I found had to do with using the phone as a hot spot. I am not using that feature. I am using a custom rom that I have had on for a couple of months now. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have tried updating the prl and then updating the profile. I have pulled the battery and left it off for half an hour. None of the other phones on my account have this issue. It is particular to my phone only. Is it this something I can call sprint about and they can reset or do I need to flash my radio again or take it in to sprint?
Had the same thing happen to me today. Called sprint and they said there was a data issue going on in my area. I say its rubbish but whatever.

That's been happening to me all day today. I thought it was maybe the kernel I installed today (more freedom) but after seeing this maybe it was the earthquake on the east coast causing problems with the network?
I have been getting these errors all day today as well.
i've been getting it all day... I thought it was kernel
I keep getting that error to. Thought i messed up my phone. Guess it was the earth quake, That **** was crazy though, never felt one before. Anyway after it happened i lost service on my phone for like 2 hours, kept getting beeping noises when i would try to make a call.
Sorry to hear others having this problem as well but I am glad that it probably isn't my phone. I would hate to get my evo replaced with a newer one that can't be rooted.
I know running CM7 right now and getting no 3g speeds right. Lame. But I got wifi though.

It can be rooted! These Dev's don't let us down, come-on man.
This started happening to me after the earthquake. In NYC
you mean Virgina? But yes, the last few days especially today after the quake. Ivebeen getting it alot.
I just had to reinstall synergy because it started freakingout saying that my andriod process had stop working, and a media process stopped working. was driving me insane.
Yeah know issue with Sprint call tech and do ctms ticket and maybe prl update or maybe * 18. The issue may be cleared by now .
Just the last couple days? I been getting these errors on and off for months now... before I rooted, and bricked my phone, so I'd say it has something to do with sprint not having enough bandwidth... or something like that anyway....
data call failure error 128
My Evo 4G started getting this Data Call Failure Error 128 last week (Wed), also only when I unlock... It is only a message, but everything works fine afterwards. It would happen about 5 times a day.
Then I went to Mexico for the weekend (3 days) and was roaming over there. Not once did the message pop up. Everything was fine, roaming data, text messages, phone calls. Thought everything was fixed. Came back on Monday and once I was on the Sprint network, started receiving the messages again on unlock.
I updated PRL and Profile and everything. That didn't stop it. Tried changing from Sprint to automatic roaming and that didn't really do anything. I thought it was a couple of apps i had (like Green Power that turns off data and turns it back on) but uninstalled it and the messages kept popping up. Tried enabling always-on data and that seems to work but that drains the battery faster than usual. Been searching all android forums looking for others in this situation and it seems like only a Sprint/HTC issue (Evo 4G, 3D and Shift). This is getting very annoying. It happens about 5 times a day.
My wife thinks that it's Sprint fixing and adjusting their network getting ready for the iPhone rush.
Wow, glad to know that I'm not the only one. I think that I had somehow did something wrong with my phone. I keep on getting these Data Call Failure - Error Code 128 messages several times a day. I tried reflashing a new rom, then doing it again. Must not be the rom, but Sprint. Annoying!!!!
it was just a sprint issues
Also cannot call the *2 or the *4 automated lines to sprint, get a busy signal and pop up saying "network is busy try again later", but can get through to sprint on a landline just fine. Apparently I cannot connect to what the sprint tech says is the "automated lines". I continue to get the error code 128 repeatedly, whether on wifi, 3g or 4g, and Sprints only "remedy" is to do a factory re-set which I have read has not affect.

Phone keeps losing signal

I am on GleanGB 1.1.2 with the EL30 modem.
Yesterday I was out and noticed I kept getting dropped calls. I did not think much about it. Today I am at home where I generally get 6 bars and have no trouble. I am in an excellent sprint area. Today the calls either drop after a few minutes, or I get an error message "Signal Lost".
I have not added any new programs on the phone. I have tried turning the phone off and on, and also bulled the battery.
I do not know if this matters, but Text messages have been fine, I can send them and receive them.
Probably is network maintenance on your area. If it don't clear up in a few days try odining to stock EL30 and see if that makes a difference.

I've had horrible data speeds etc since i switched to the EL30 modem, so I went to FB15 last night and so far, better over all for me. Who knows if any other modem will work better for you, but EL30 just wasn't cutting it for me.
Can I switch to other modems on CleanGB?
That happened to me .. I called sprint and the said they were doing maintenance .. they lady said it would be fixed in a few hours but it actually took a few days!

You can change to any modem you want and it won't impact your rom at all.

[Q] VERY strange problem, signal dies while sending SMS

I am having a weird radio issue with my E4GT. I am running a FI27 ICS build, with the FI27 modem and everytime I send an SMS, it starts to send, the signal meter drops to 0 bars (from usually 4 or 5) and it takes a very long time to send the text (about 15 seconds or longer), either that or it just says it "failed" but I check google voice inbox or ask the recipient and they usually get them fine. I updated my profile and prl the other day, and I think that may be the culprit, can anyone please provide some insight? is there a way to roll back PRL or something? Should I try a new modem? I receive SMS just fine btw.
This may or may not be related, but within the same time frame, I have also been experiencing clock sync issues, my time zone is Eastern, so now it is GMT -4 hours, but every so often, before I changed my clock setting to from automatic network time to manual, my phone clock would jump 4 hours ahead. So I am guessing it is part of the same radio issues. any and all help is much appreciated.
I have that since I got this phone back on gingerbread. Also on my previous phones like the Evo4G and OG Epic. I think that's just Sprint network for you. Doesn't happen much when you're on 4G and Wifi. Sending messages steals from your reception since they both are ran by the 2G network. At least that's how I always saw it.
Edit: Also take into consideration that Sprint is upgrading their towers. Might be the reason you're experiencing it more often. And yes even though sometimes it says failed they do go through. I always hit resend and get a complain about double texting from the other person lol
