But if you get the results, I guess go for it :victory:

This. 100x this.
I hope it works for you though, OP.
You couldn't pay me to open up my htc one..
his attitude towards the phone is my exact reasoning for concern for Refurbishment phones.
Eh... that's an awful lot of work... risky work too since it isn't really designed to come apart.

I don't think that's the full back piece either. It's just the front. You would still have to get the entire back piece in red.
I can assure you that Verizon will likely not be refurbishing this device. Returns to HTC for Refurbishment, until about probably 6+ months then Verizon gets tech tools and guides to train personnel on disassembly and reassembly.
I used to be a technician at Sprint and this device does not open easily at all. Not compared to the DNA or 8x

so basically if you get a refurb after 6+ months, your probably getting a ****ty one?
and before that, it will be HTC that does the refurbishments?
that is reassuring as far as refurbs go, for the firsrt 5-6 months, but after that.

Are you sure all the screw holes on the red plate will be the same for the Verizon variant?

So, I bought the red case, it came in on Friday afternoon and I was about to get started. Then, I noticed that the black rubber was just a painted line that was rubbing off. WTF? Looks like I saved myself a lot of time and effort on this one.

I recently found someone who can S-OFF my VZW One for 60$ or so. Only problem is they have to open my phone and according to the email I got, there will be "signs of light scratches" on the aluminum due to how easy it is to scratch and "signs of entry" due to prying.
Should I bother sending my phone in and get it back scuffed up or just wait for a software based S-OFF?

sounds like they have to take the phone apart to get go some things.
(based upon S-OFF method on the Rezound using a paper clip_

I would do this if S-OFF doesn't come in like 4-6 months

I think what you should do is borrow the $60 from a friend and if you don'd like the job the guy did, or you don't like the phone itself, sell it with the S-OFF and pay your friend back and make a profit. That's what a friend of mine said he might do wile we were discussing this situation in a Skype call.

Anyway, he's had the phone for a bit you know, he likes it enough. What he's mainly concerned about is physical damage or paying and then having a free software tool released a week later.
I'm still thinking it's better to wait since you want a stock room anyway, and you know you can wait and save money, too.
Besides, the One is a great phone stock, anyway.

Only question is "when". Not even the S4 has an unlocked bootloader and that's been out for a while :/.
I was hoping that root bounty thread would at least bring a out of it but that died out quick.

The only thing is you have to think: is this really important to me? Will I ever regret this? The bloatware seems to be under control for the most part and the rooted apps you could get aren't life changing. To be honest, rooting is pretty lame. It's exciting until you do it. It's neat and all but I don't think it's worth $60...buyers remorse always sucks more than Verizon's ROM.

Its called Jtagging and is not new. Basically they are taking the phone apart, and reflashing it. Totally possible. Problem here is the htc one is notoriously hard to take apart without damage, expect damage to the device if you go this route.

Haha, I saw this. The review from iFixIt or whatever its called where they tear down the phone piece by piece and rate by repairability. It rated, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being easy to repair.....drumroll.........a 1, lol. Because of how hard it is to disassemble. Apparently HTC has this sucker bonded together quite well.
In any event, you have a HUGE factor to consider here with the jtagging. As much as I'm a proponent of s-off, it only benefits you if its a public s-off method that everyone has (being developers). Say you send in your phone, get s-off, then what? Nobody else is even unlocked, except very few of us. Its the same instance as we're in right now, a couple of us have unlocked devices, but there's only 2/3 devs, and only a handful of people who can use the roms. Snail racing, lolz.
Honestly, I'd wait till s-off becomes public through an exploit or something, otherwise you have nothing.
There's also the JavaCard S-Off exploit which has been mentioned a few times on the One forums. Haven't heard from anyone who has actually done it though, so not much else I can say on it.

What state are you in? If semi local I'd pay for the service and go to you.
I would in fact most likely buy one myself if you can direct me to this card.
Couldn't this theoretically mean a dev could run code through the SIM slot if it were programmed with the HTCDev unlock bin? I assume there must be a way for a user to program their own SIM code and unlock/S-off that way and revert back to signed code after the process. (I'm thinking in flow charts as I have yet to do any more than minor app development on Android, just trying to help)

He bought it yesterday , so I'm really ****ed. I talked to him on the phone and he was somewhat crying as he was hardly able to afford this after selling his laptop , as it's in India and it's really expensive in India. He didn't buy it from Google, so no RMA there.
I dropped it, sides got scratched :crying:. The scratches isn't on the back cover or the display. It's on the very sides (between the screen and the back) I don't know what that part is called, it's a glossy black which is rounded on the screen, may as well be a part of the screen.(I hope not)
I can I think afford 30-40$ max to get his tablet fixed, not more than that unfortunately. He bought it for 390$(Indian price).
Please Please, help a fellow member out I was about to root this thing for him so he can have some goodies but sooo unfortunate of this event. Not sure how you're going to find that particular part for it, much less find it for 40 bucks or less, maybe buy him a fosman TPU case to cover up the markings.
Might be helpful if you posted a pic.

You can't repair the screen like that.
Full replacement or none at all.
Either he forgives you which is going to be hard, under the circumstances you mentioned or you sell your Nexus 5 and buy him a new Nexus.
Then, take his old Nexus, sell it and buy another phone for yourself.

The first time I had the LG G3 I went to return it for an exchange at the last day (my 14th) day. As a result I got into an argument with the sales representative about the display. I told her that the digitizer is visible on mine and it bugs the crap out of me, and so I wanted to excersize my right for an exchange for another G3. Then she started spewing nonsense and saying things like "Well you can't really see it, so it's not a big deal", etc. Well it is a pretty big deal if you buy a $600 product.
We ended up exchanging the phone 2 times straight that day. The second G3 I got had an extremely visible digitizer and the screen had a bad yellow tint. The third G3 was the last they will give me and they made it very clear to me that no matter what it is they won't exchange it. Guess what? It still has a more visible digitizer than my original one and the color temperature was still allot warmer. My whites look...yellowish.
I'm sorry for the rant, but why would those employees give me such a hard time trying to exchange a product? Its rediculus. Now I'm stuck with one worse than the original when it comes to the screen...
Funny never ever ever had a problem returning a phone with in the 14 days
also they will do that if you returned it a time or 2 already it cost the store money each time you do and exchange
also if your a PITA customer lol they will give you a hard time just for the fun of it
It cost the store money end of the day its business
Yeah and I believe their personal statistics (or the store's) are marred due to returns and exchanges.

The first one had a minimal visible digitizer with a nice toned display. But it had backlight bleeds on the edge. The second one was just completely washed out with an extremely visible digitizer that it was just exchanged on the spot. The third one I had no choice but to keep, but the digitizer was not as visible and the display still had a yellow tint compared to the original.
If you ask me for $600 I have all the right to exchange the phones all the way until I final have a good one without any physical flaws.
Didn't you return your G3 for dust too? How many have you tried? Gosh you really are trying to break the record of some guy on G+ returning like 10 different G3's at T-Mobile and AT&T. Think you have to send your phone to LG so you would need another phone. I don't think it's a quick process and I doubt they look over the phone with a magnifying glass to see the slightest thing wrong if it's even wrong. I guess worth a shot. If it was me I would've just returned it and got a different phone or wait a month and try again.

If you can not see the flaw, you must be blind. Sorry. But the display models and the first G3 I had where all cooler than the one I currently have...by a good margin. So no, its a very VISIBLE flaw. Well I wouldn't call it a flaw, but out of the ordinary characteristic.

Got plenty of hobbies, and this phone thing worked out with me for 5 years just fine.
So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

nope i saw tons of M9 go and come back with no issues, except clicky speakers and the company in here is not covering that, even some iPhone units suffers from something similar
state your country please

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

That's all good and stuff. . but it's the hardware that is failing this device. All these defects. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone. However this is not okay for me and shouldn't be acceptable for anyone else.
I just want my phone to work as intended.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

Sounds like me. Hah
I wish I'd sent mine back. Horrid battery and camera experience with this one
If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Trust me. I did. Until I looked at the phone when it was dark. For now on I'm going to be running tests every time I get a phone.
Is the replacement with T-Mobile or asurion? Or another private insurance..I remember with my wifes note4 they gave us a new phone right there in the store..and it was past the 15 days return policy...but then again it was Verizon not T-Mobile

They do it from asurion for some reason?
Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).
Hi everyone,
Yes I do mean very slighly but I can be very OCD about such things. I'd value an opinion on whether this is acceptable or not so. Please see links
thanks:!
all I can say is that I did not had those
however, they don't look that bad
yeah, i prob would not be happy, u never know what could be wrong them with the phone or if it was just done during production, i would try to do an exchange before the return period is over

Yeah I hear you. 99% of the people wouldn't be bothered or wouldn't notice. Don't you just hate when this happens . I'll give it a day or two and then decide.

Complain. They might offer some money back or a free case or something. Lay it on thick
Free case aint enough. Tell them 20% off, as device looks like used/refurbished. If they don't agree, return it and order again.
Device that is new, should look as new, not used.
Those pics are terrible but I don't need them, have a similar problem. My antenna lines aren't perfect, there are some micro gouges and what looks like wear. Same on my OnePlus 5 that I returned. Mine is minor and I'll live with it but yours might be worse, can't see.

20%, you are a dreamer lol.
Getting mine delivered tomorrow, I really hope I don't run into issues like this one
I created a complaint so let's see what happens. I probably could live with it so I'd take some form of compensation over having to wait for a new unit. But it appears to be sold out...So replacing it might take a long time:crying:

Got my replacement...guess what, now it is way worse. I hope they'll replace it again without much fuzz.

They inspect the one you send in first. If it is free of damage/passes inspection they will send out the replacement.

You are acting ridiculous over something that has no effect whatsoever on the performance of the phone, will not be seen by anyone with a case on and will be indistinguishable from actual wear and tear after a few days of ownership. It's $500-600 phone not a million dollar piece of artwork.
I too have OCD about certain things but this is just absurd.
Edit: Now if there was a real defect like the screen was damaged, the camera lens cover was scratched or something along those lines I would totally understand where you are coming from. But for something as trivial as a smudge I think you are just making a mountain out of a molehill and missing out on time you could be enjoying an awesome performing device. If you look hard enough, you'll always be able to find something wrong with everything. Im sure OnePlus wont keep sending you replacement after replacement so you'll either have to live with the smudges you will find on every device or they will refund your money, in which case you just gave them a nice interest free loan for over a month.
I'm with the OP, the marks may be very small but he paid for a new device. Mine was unmarked, theirs should be too. It's weird.
