Received my phone today: very slight cosmetic damage - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
Yes I do mean very slighly but I can be very OCD about such things. I'd value an opinion on whether this is acceptable or not so. Please see links
thanks:!

all I can say is that I did not had those
however, they don't look that bad

yeah, i prob would not be happy, u never know what could be wrong them with the phone or if it was just done during production, i would try to do an exchange before the return period is over

Yeah I hear you. 99% of the people wouldn't be bothered or wouldn't notice. Don't you just hate when this happens . I'll give it a day or two and then decide.

Complain. They might offer some money back or a free case or something. Lay it on thick

Free case aint enough. Tell them 20% off, as device looks like used/refurbished. If they don't agree, return it and order again.
Device that is new, should look as new, not used.

Those pics are terrible but I don't need them, have a similar problem. My antenna lines aren't perfect, there are some micro gouges and what looks like wear. Same on my OnePlus 5 that I returned. Mine is minor and I'll live with it but yours might be worse, can't see.

20%, you are a dreamer lol.

Getting mine delivered tomorrow, I really hope I don't run into issues like this one

I created a complaint so let's see what happens. I probably could live with it so I'd take some form of compensation over having to wait for a new unit. But it appears to be sold out...So replacing it might take a long time:crying:

My sides are gone

Got my replacement...guess what, now it is way worse. I hope they'll replace it again without much fuzz.

They inspect the one you send in first. If it is free of damage/passes inspection they will send out the replacement.

You are acting ridiculous over something that has no effect whatsoever on the performance of the phone, will not be seen by anyone with a case on and will be indistinguishable from actual wear and tear after a few days of ownership. It's $500-600 phone not a million dollar piece of artwork.
I too have OCD about certain things but this is just absurd.
Edit: Now if there was a real defect like the screen was damaged, the camera lens cover was scratched or something along those lines I would totally understand where you are coming from. But for something as trivial as a smudge I think you are just making a mountain out of a molehill and missing out on time you could be enjoying an awesome performing device. If you look hard enough, you'll always be able to find something wrong with everything. Im sure OnePlus wont keep sending you replacement after replacement so you'll either have to live with the smudges you will find on every device or they will refund your money, in which case you just gave them a nice interest free loan for over a month.

I'm with the OP, the marks may be very small but he paid for a new device. Mine was unmarked, theirs should be too. It's weird.

[Q] Faulty LTE Radio? (VZW) Which Part to Swap Out?

I received a CLNR replacement from VZW this weekend due to massive banding on my original device. Take it out inspect it for scratches, fire up the phone, check out the screen for banding etc. No scratches, screen has no banding/dead pixels and I assume all is well! Much to my dismay when I try to DL apps, surf the net or stream Netflix , make calls etc. the phone cannot keep a signal to save it's life. It has full 4G signal and after I access data or make a call, the bars are gone and there's a x in the signal bars. When this occurs, I cannot makes calls or access data etc etc. When I switch from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only I have a stable data connection, and calls can be made etc. Would I need to switch out the entire main motherboard or would I just need to swap out the antenna? I've been searching around for an answer and cannot seem to find one. Checked out a few tear downs and it seems simple enough to remove. I do have experience tearing apart and rebuilding so I do not see any issues. Thank you for any input!
If you got a CLNR and its faulty, get another replacement. Why would you try to open it and fix it, potentially breaking and voiding warranty, when you can just get it replaced for free?

Well I'm tired of playing the warranty exchange game and getting a crappier one. The screen on the one w/ the faulty radio is PERFECT. No banding, no discoloration etc. Besides I like to rip crap apart, if I break it I'll just buy another one . Plus I don't see any void warranty stickers in plain view ;o.

If you have ever gotten a Verizon CLNR you would know. I've received THREE Nexus' with scratched screens out of the box. I'm tired of the asshattery of their CLNR program. It might seem retarded to you, but after dealing w/ duds for 3-4 exchanges straight, see how you feel after that. Besides I will have fun opening it up. If it breaks I buy another one. I have the $$$ for it so who cares?

Well if you're so loaded, I'm surprised you dealt with CLNR in the first place... why not just buy a new phone every time you get a scratch on the screen there moneybags?
I dealt with it at Sprint and after 4 replacements I left my contract with them. I know it sucks, but seriously choosing to rip your phone apart and replace an antenna (which may or may not fix the problem) when you can have them replace the phone free makes absolutely no sense to me. CLNR sucks, but you're bound to get an acceptable one eventually, or you should be able to complain after so many replacements and get an actually new device.

Looks like someone drank some haterade this morning. Just cause you have it doesn't mean you need to spend it. Point is I'm bored and I want to try to fix it myself. Believe it or not, it can be fun. If you have nothing to add to this post besides trying to bash on someone that can afford extras.. Go back to your corner with your $30 a month T-mobile plan .

ok, so this a video of how not to put a screen on....overall really well job done, but its too many risk and the chances that u got lucky where 1 in a million which u got really lucky not to crack that screen. also on another note, u gotta work in a area where their really isnt much dust like a very well ventilated area or room. now not everyone might be able to pull it off, so its not recommended......prob not worth the 20 bucks to do it ureself unless ure very well experienced in this field....
once u break the inboard screen ure screwed and sammy or ure provider aint gonna fix it for u anymore due to voiding the warranty, ull have to invest in either buying the whole screen replacement for around 200 to 300$, agin not recommended buying on e-bay too many do's and but's there best amazon; Or buy a whole new phone.
This should be put as not recommended for everyone only for the experienced and knowledgable.

Im not a competitor nor i have any buisness of this type, if i did, i wouldnt make it clear here........but that fact of the matter is, if u dont know what ure doing things wont go well.......me personally dont got that much experience here but i do got experience with onboard chipping etc....and maybe i could pull this off, maybe not it just takes skills to be able to take the screen off without breaking the inner screen and ofcourse alot fo heat so that u dont force. Im not stopping anybody from doing this they can if they want, but once they break their screen dont come crying lolz
Ofcourse he did do the right thing to add a desclaimer and say he wont be responsible for any damage done more to the unit if their are F*C* Ups done by the user trying to follow this tutorial.

[Q] TMobile Shipped New Phone in a Worn Out Bubble Bag

I just got my brand new Note 2 in the mail from TMobile. It really bothered me... They packaged it in a single bubble wrap bag and the bubbles were all popped...so it was like just a flat bag. Is this normal for TMobile shipping? Ugh...should I worry that the phone might break later on from the early abuse of shipping with no protection?
Whoever was in charge of packaging was probably being a smartass and did it intentionally as a "joke". Wouldn't be so funny if it was his/her device. As long as everything works properly I wouldn't stress too much. Call TMO and have them note it just in case, better safe then sorry.

^^^ This... It's some stupid kid that doesn't take his job seriously. There are so many people out there that would kill for even a simple packer job at T-Mobile and this douche just spits on it. I've been laid off before (not T-Mobile but sprint/Nextel) and it sucked. People take sh!t for granted until it happens to them... Been there, done that. I might be a better person for it now but it can be very bad for a while.. As far as your phone, I'm sure its fine and I wouldn't worry about it unless you just wanna make a point. I'm not sure I'd send it back for that even out of spite but it might help out things. A letter or call sounds like a happy medium.. Good luck with this one lol! I'm still loving this phone even after almost a whole year which is rare for me

He bought it yesterday , so I'm really ****ed. I talked to him on the phone and he was somewhat crying as he was hardly able to afford this after selling his laptop , as it's in India and it's really expensive in India. He didn't buy it from Google, so no RMA there.
I dropped it, sides got scratched :crying:. The scratches isn't on the back cover or the display. It's on the very sides (between the screen and the back) I don't know what that part is called, it's a glossy black which is rounded on the screen, may as well be a part of the screen.(I hope not)
I can I think afford 30-40$ max to get his tablet fixed, not more than that unfortunately. He bought it for 390$(Indian price).
Please Please, help a fellow member out I was about to root this thing for him so he can have some goodies but sooo unfortunate of this event. It's 12AM right now and I will be meeting him at 11AM tomorrow and I really don't want him to get much worried(not that he already is) and he is my best friend so that can ruin our friendship aswell :crying::crying::crying:

Not sure how you're going to find that particular part for it, much less find it for 40 bucks or less, maybe buy him a fosman TPU case to cover up the markings.
Might be helpful if you posted a pic.

You can't repair the screen like that.
Full replacement or none at all.
Either he forgives you which is going to be hard, under the circumstances you mentioned or you sell your Nexus 5 and buy him a new Nexus.
Then, take his old Nexus, sell it and buy another phone for yourself.

T-a mobile gives me a hard time....

The first time I had the LG G3 I went to return it for an exchange at the last day (my 14th) day. As a result I got into an argument with the sales representative about the display. I told her that the digitizer is visible on mine and it bugs the crap out of me, and so I wanted to excersize my right for an exchange for another G3. Then she started spewing nonsense and saying things like "Well you can't really see it, so it's not a big deal", etc. Well it is a pretty big deal if you buy a $600 product.
We ended up exchanging the phone 2 times straight that day. The second G3 I got had an extremely visible digitizer and the screen had a bad yellow tint. The third G3 was the last they will give me and they made it very clear to me that no matter what it is they won't exchange it. Guess what? It still has a more visible digitizer than my original one and the color temperature was still allot warmer. My whites look...yellowish.
I'm sorry for the rant, but why would those employees give me such a hard time trying to exchange a product? Its rediculus. Now I'm stuck with one worse than the original when it comes to the screen...
Funny never ever ever had a problem returning a phone with in the 14 days
also they will do that if you returned it a time or 2 already it cost the store money each time you do and exchange
also if your a PITA customer lol they will give you a hard time just for the fun of it
It cost the store money end of the day its business
Yeah and I believe their personal statistics (or the store's) are marred due to returns and exchanges.

I've seen you post about this type of thing in a couple of different places. I think you're being too picky. I think it's very unlikely 3 G3s in a row had problems.

The first one had a minimal visible digitizer with a nice toned display. But it had backlight bleeds on the edge. The second one was just completely washed out with an extremely visible digitizer that it was just exchanged on the spot. The third one I had no choice but to keep, but the digitizer was not as visible and the display still had a yellow tint compared to the original.
If you ask me for $600 I have all the right to exchange the phones all the way until I final have a good one without any physical flaws.
Didn't you return your G3 for dust too? How many have you tried? Gosh you really are trying to break the record of some guy on G+ returning like 10 different G3's at T-Mobile and AT&T. Then he gets mad at T-Mobile for them having to mail him a check even though he paid cash. I think he did that twice. lmao Don't tell that's you? lol
This is more lg's problem. Perhaps you should take it up with them instead of the middle man I bet you would actually get somewhere.

That was the first one. The second one was exchanged again on the spot for an obvious faulty display.

This is more lg's problem. Perhaps you should take it up with them instead of the middle man I bet you would actually get somewhere.

What are my chances of actually getting a good phone with LG vs T-mobile?
I hate the fact that all the gray colors on my G3 have a yellow tint to them now. Man this kinda blows. Even with I use trickster mod.

If you tell them what happend at the tmobile store, complain politely and ask them to make sure its good before they send it I bet its a for sure thing

I can consider myself very lucky for owning a flawless unit then.
I know if you came in to my store and tried that you would have gotten turned way and told to take it up with LG since we would have allowed you 1 exchange NOT 2 or 3

Think you have to send your phone to LG so you would need another phone. I don't think it's a quick process and I doubt they look over the phone with a magnifying glass to see the slightest thing wrong if it's even wrong. I guess worth a shot. If it was me I would've just returned it and got a different phone or wait a month and try again.

Yeah it will take a week at the minimum to get the new phone more likely 2 - 3. I would have done the same thing as you and got the m8 or s5. Luckily I got a great phone and didn't need to.

Didn't you return your G3 for dust too? How many have you tried? Gosh you really are trying to break the record of some guy on G+ returning like 10 different G3's at T-Mobile and AT&T. Then he gets mad at T-Mobile for them having to mail him a check even though he paid cash. I think he did that twice. lmao Don't tell that's you? lol

Do you have the G+ link for that?

This thread reminds me about being on MacRumors and people talking about how they had returned like seven iPads until they got one that didn't have one of the several ridiculously impossible to notice defects.
This is why I'm glad I don't work retail any more. It made me wish there was a policy to be allowed to slap customers for being absurd.

I know if you tried to do that with me I would be sure to put you in a very very tough position when it comes to your job. If you sell me something, it better be as damn good as it was advertised. If you exchange a faulty product, it better be better and not WORSE than the one I just had.

Yes but the problem is that with LG I have to send in the phone. That's something I cannot afford to do since I have no spare phones. Can they not just send me a unit and then I ship mine back?

If you can not see the flaw, you must be blind. Sorry. But the display models and the first G3 I had where all cooler than the one I currently have...by a good margin. So no, its a very VISIBLE flaw. Well I wouldn't call it a flaw, but out of the ordinary characteristic.

Indecision on the definition of flaw? I think you need a new hobby...this phone thing doesn't seem to be working out for you.
