[Request] A picture of your USB port on your One - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I know it's a random request, but I think mine might be bent/possibly in there a little twisted. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me or I'm a little paranoid with my brand new phone.
Either way, if you could take a moment and post up a picture, I'd appreciate it
Thank you!

Best I could get. Mine doesn't seem crooked. Hope this helps

Any chance you can get a close up? I'm talking about the metal port itself

That's really as close as I could get without it being really blurry. I tried to get closer but cell phone cameras aren't so good for macro photos

Here's some more, hopefully they help you out. My One is only about 3 days old as well so it's hardly had any charger use.
Hope that helps you.

Take a picture of yours and myself or someone else can tell you if something is wrong

Boom.
It's almost as if the metal part of the charging port isn't centered. I realize I might be splitting hairs here, but I don't want to deal with problems in the future and risk getting a refurb. On the other hand though if I exchange it now I risk getting one with gaps or a messed up camera.
I attached a few pictures. Sorry for the lack of quality, I did the best I could with the gfs 4s.

looks straight enough to me. But I don't go through my phone with a fine tooth comb looking for things to nitpick.

Looks like mine. I have a Sprint variant but it still works and fits just fine.

Honestly it looks just fine to me. And if it's working just fine charging and syncing, that's even better.

I think you should take it apart and visually inspect each and every solder point for symmetry and make sure the ribbon cables lay perfectly flat. If they don't, you should take off, and nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Mine looks the same way, doesn't bother me, personally.

the bottom part has a curve to it, if you look at the top of the port it is aligned straight across, but if you look at the bottom it appears it isn't centered because of the curved bottom.
case solved.
at lease IMO

Mine is kind of rough. Other issues with the sides/speaker grills nor being flush. I would have never noticed either if I hadn't read this forum. No dead pixels... Its all good.

[DIY] Those who are looking for inductive charging

I don't know if it has been posted but there has been a surge of DIY of inductive charging in order to get it to work with our phones.
Now I've checked out the back covers and mats that are coming out for our phones and no offense to anyone but they look awful. It takes away from the sleek design and feel of the phone.
Okay enough talking, check it out for yourself:
This one is for our phone, the Vibrant / i9000:
http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod/
This one is for the Epic 4G, which gives greater detail on how to do it:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ep...c-4g-touch-stone-mod-details-lots-photos.html
Hope this inspires some of you guys to get creative and have a cool unique Vibrant
UPDATE::: 9/30/11
For those who do not feel like reading through threads.
Here is a detailed guide on how to mod your vibrant or any other phone for that matter (without a metal back case) to have inductive charging.
http://youtu.be/0ga4N_Ih9GE
You're welcome.
Love it!
love it , but i also need a inductive charger to charge my inductively chargeable vibrant )
The first link has that. If you look at the video the guy uses a palm stone in order to do the charging. You would buy it as a set.
Sorry for the double post but here is another guide. This one is done all internally without the wires hanging out. In a little while there will be a video outlining the whole thing, if people want me to post that I can do that as well..
http://blog.qinyujie.net/2011/09/24/557/
Has anyone with a Vibrant tried this? I feel like they should and then I might...
The mod shown takes the microUSB slot so its unusable. Qian Qin is currently working on doing a mod which retains the microUSB intact and is all done inside the phone circuits. It will be more advanced and definitely require you to take the whole phone apart but the result should be far more awesome. I'm waiting for that one before doing it.
He finished his video today!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ga4N_Ih9GE&feature=player_embedded
This is what Alienz was talking about, having the inductive charger without interfering with the micro usb.
That video is SUPER detailed and easy to get. I just ordered all the parts. $23 total shipped.
Will be doing this mod next week. Will be awesome when I'm inductively charging my 1800mah genuine Samsung Galaxy SII Touch battery in my Vibrant
Will this mod work if I use a tpu case cover? or must be without anycase thanks.
That is so bad ass!!

Do you mean the self-adhesive copper foil? It's very affordable.
I'm definitely working on this next week already ordered everything I need. All in all - $20

I have a HP Touchpad and have the inductive charger for it.
The Touchpad is in a Leather case and even when I have the case open (that's 2 flaps of fat leather now), the inductive charging works just fine.
SO, I think it's safe to say that regardless of what case you have (unless it's some sort of metal of insulating one), charging will work just fine.
Man how are you guys getting the parts so cheap? I ordered mine off ebay and it was about $30 shipped.... Not that I'm complaining, it's still a good price but I feel like I'm missing something.

What guage of wire to use? is too thin going to be a issue with overheating?
Just tried the mod.
Nearly impossible to solder those wires without a microscope. I have a very good soldering iron and without a magnifying glass its just not a good idea to do. Pretty sure I ****ed my phone up cause I think I shorted 2 pins. :/
****.
^
You could put a razor blade between the pins to prevent bridging the pins.
Finally completed my inductive charging mod after many iterations. I took my phone apart 4 times because of quircks I thought may be due to the wire but in the end weren't.
By the end, I was such an expert it took me under 5 minutes to fully disassemble the phone. Sad I know.
But you only care about results right?
RESULTS:
PROS:
-Inductive charging just as shown in the video
CONS:
-HARD procedure. From taking the phone apart to figuring out exactly how everything is supposed to go. It's deceptively simple in the video but in practise will take you a while. For example, it is not shown that the inductive charging circuit makes the phone very hard to close using the original cover and hence, a lot of adjustments must be made.
-DOES NOT WORK WITH A CASE. That's right, this mod does not work with ANY case attached to it. The Pre touchstone is apparently too weak for that. That was the deal breaker for me. After getting it to fully work, I dismantled it angrily when I found no practical way of having a case on and using this.
-Costs money. Costs of 20-$30 depending on what you need and get.
-Expect to sink quite some time into this as well.
Overall, if you don't use a case with your phone, you can consider doing this mod. For the vast majority of users though, this is not practical. I will next try to incorporate this mod into a case and see if I can do that instead with a removable slim microUSB. I find the soldering wires on the inside and whole procedure to be a bit too risky.

Alcantara fit bag..... rubbish!

After paying £20 for this I was excited for it to arrive. I shouldn't have been. Positives are it fits well. That's about it. It is so awkward to get the phone in and out I actually don't think I will use it as I feel more likely to drop it now! Also, I expected it to keep the screen clean but it comes out still dirty and finger prints all over it still. I still have to clean the screen with the outside of the fit bag as the inside doesn't seem to clean the screen when pulled out. When I put my phone in top first I lost signal so have to put it in bottom first, I presume the antenna is at the top?
Very disappointed.

Sorry, see what you said now. Strange that as if I put upside down in case I lose wifi and better signal to been top facing up! Would have thought it would have been the other way round if antenna is at the bottom.

yea, I agree that's weird. Plus I don't see how alcantara can cause any kind of interference.
Curiously, how are you verifying this?
I should be getting mine by the end of the week (ordered last week), I'll let you know if mine suffers from the same issue
To be fair, its a very untechnical observation, just by my battery stats screen. Also, I always have a bad signal at work and was suffering with the volume bug and 2g/3g reception problem so it could also be something to do with this as I only got the update last night.
With reference to the fitbag I have found after half a days use, the phone goes in and out much easier when putting the top in first and leaving the fatter end facing out. The case has slackened off a little and is better now. It does clean the screen a little but doesn't clean finger prints.

Since the "fat end" is the one that has the USB, headphone jack, antenna, and speakers, it wouldn't make sense to insert it any other way, really...
Anyway, I'm interested in getting this pouch as well, so please do let us know what you think after a few more days use
Here's some pics of my pure suede one. I'm liking it so far. Seems to have a fair amount of give to get it in and out, but is tight enough that it doesn't slide out by itself.
BTW pics taken with my Nexus, and the flash makes the white dust light up, a bit like a UV light does in a night club! Normally it looks black and you can't see all that dust.
really can't belive that some leather is the problem of your signal loss.
if the singnal is so poor that you loss it with a case, you can't complain the case for it.

Mine fits perfectly. The end of the phone ends just halfway into the lip right at the end of the case - the bit where the leather is folder over underneath and double thickness.

Slight rattle noise

Does anyone else have a slight rattle noise coming from the camera area/back corner? You cant really hear it unless you tap on the back of the tablet lightly. My old(2012) nexus doesnt make this sound and not sure if this is normal on the new 1s or not.
i hear a tapping noise when i tap on it.
come on man, do you buy products to find problems? do not make this into the screen lifting issue with the first nexus 7. noone needs you exchanging yours a hundred times taking away possible purchases from other people.
Pretty sure it's normal. Same noise on my Nexus 4.
please dont start star the "screen lift" saga of 2012 with the 2013 model some people look for things wrong.. if you have buyers remorse take it back.
its the camera. you will notice that on a lot of devices with cameras. my Gnex does this, my wifes Droid Razr HD does this as well. my thunderbolt did it too. pretty sure it is something inside the camera housings.
dont tap there. its nothing to worry about.
i swear, the only time i find stuff wrong with my electronics is when OTHER people point them out.

My GNex doesnt make this particular sound, it makes a sound from the cover not being flush with the back tho.
Either way not a big deal, was just wondering if it was normal or not.
ridiculous mentality from some people here. A LOT of users, me included, go to forums like XDA to learn about potential build flaws because some of us actually care about getting quality controlled devices for our money. I actually didn't buy the Nexus 10 because of all the reports, both from forums and in reviews, about the bleeding, and I'm grateful for all those reports.
Just because you'd happily pay for a product with obvious defects and then defend the manufacturer to the bone like it was your employer doesn't mean everyone have that attitude. In the year 2012 gluing a screen to a bezel shouldn't have been a problem.
I'm not saying the OP has discovered a flaw here but any report of potential flaws is appreciated by someone like me and your overly defensive mentality is sad to see. Don't decide for others what a flaw is cause it is highly subjective.

i agree with that. its just some times (like the N7 screen lift saga) the defect isn't even noticeable until someone points it out to you.

my volume rocker is solid, definitely seems like its coming from the camera.
Its the camera lenses. Perfectly normal. All cameras do this to some extent.
My galaxy nexus doesn't.... But remember it having a 0 shutter lag. Maybe it has a unique camera or something. Most other cameras click when tapped.

I hear it even if i put if I put it down lightly.
example: flat on table with something soft under, pick up top area around 1cm and give it a little force pushing it down.
my first 1 was definitely louder than the replacement, i could hear it through the box. my replacement still does it when i place it on my lap or table, but its not as bad.
im pretty sure all of them do it. so if you dont have any of the other issues(dead pixel/QI not working etc) people are mentioning i would just keep it.

I am confused about this , i mean , my nexus 7 has the identical issue even it is a very very slight tap...
Is it similar to yours?
not only the camera area but also the upper part of back cover...
it seems to be a normal to make the noise from the camera lens. i wouldnt worry about it too much.
I am still confused why some others have said they dont have the sound tho.

Reasons to not buy the note 7?

Hi, lets put aside "lol it will blow your house" thing...
The main reason i want this phone is screen (well also having a samsung vr would be interesting)
What do u guys think besides that what reasons u guys wont recommend me to buy this phone?
thanks!
It's the best phone currently made, so really no reason not to get it. I think the main thing I don't like is the non-removable battery, which had Samsung put a removable battery in it then the whole recall thing would have been as simple as them sending us a new battery. But overall there is very little to complain about with the phone and a ton of things to like.
The lack of IR blaster is very disappointing.
The credibility of Samsung after the recall.
Question of future updates.
Light leak under the curved glass.
Saying all that I'm still waiting patently for my replacement..
Doesn't make wet coffee only dry. Makes a mess of washing my car.
BUY IT and love it......I have never been so black and white before. Just try and buy one, its hell!
Go go go and get the Note 7........

Anyone that lacks mental bandwidth to use a real phone. In that case I recommend that person to go buy an Iphone where it requires nothing more than swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe and press.
the only reason I can think about somebody not geting a note 7 is not having the money to do it.......
How common is this "light leak" issue? My note gets here tomorrow and I want to make sure it doesn't have any build quality issues. I went through 3 s6s and got stuck with one with a wobbly home button and asymmetrical screen.

My previous Note 7 had the gap (the same gap described as expansion in the user manual and did indeed leak light) Replacement does not have the expansion gap at all, in fact it is just like the S7 Edge in that it is bonded entirely. Very happy with my replacement.

So when I get the phone I just need to check the sides where it curves and make sure the glass is sealed tightly against the metal with no gap?

Also.. Anyone have any luck with a protector working with a case yet? I want the neo hybrid case.
Curved screen makes it almost impossible to get a good screen protector and especially a good screen protector/case combination that plays nice. No IR blaster, no removable battery, audio is pretty crappy (standard crappy, not particularly crappy compared to other phones that aren't enhanced like the HTC and LG flagships), curves on screen get annoying when using s-pen, probably will never get s-off... That's about all I can think of. Oh, and occasional lag which I don't think should happen in today's day and age with these processors and RAM amounts. It's probably just Samsung and their TouchWiz... I think the HTC 10 and LG V10 seem smoother, honestly. Not a huge deal though.

This is only reason I can really think of depending on what you are coming from. I had one before the recall and that one was even worse than this one. I get this with my Nexus 6P which is a year old. I love everything else about it, dunno what people are doing to get 4-5 hours of SOT differently than I am.
Its the best phone out bar none.
That said i find the edge screen useless and annoying...cant even use a glass screen protector. I would prefer a flat screen.
I would prefer a flat 6" screen actually lol.
Would be nice if it had front firing stereo speakers also....my nexus 6 and 6P kill the note in sound.
Other than that i couldnt think of anything else someone may not like about it.

Don't get the Note 7. You've already talked yourself into how terrible it is. In fact, don't get any phone, I don't think there is ever going to be one made that would keep you anywhere near glass half full stage.
The phone comes with screen protectosr preinstalled. Both back and front.
One main reason I can think of at least for me is sound quality. Sound quality is not the greatest by far. Hands cover the speaker a lot when holding it. Although it is because the phone is water resistant but still. There is a dual speaker mod though that I have yet to try that could help with this
i have the phone and i like it, but there are definitely reasons not to buy it.
1: you can get a OnePlus 3 for less than half the price, and the only areas the Note 7 "wins" in are subjective stuff like screen quality (i don't believe the human eye can see the difference between 1080p and quad HD) or "i like having a stylus". the Note 7 camera is better, but mostly in low light situation, and the gap isn't nearly as big as Android blogs (and Samsung owners) make it out to be.
2: TouchWiz has cleaned up but it's still not as smooth as just about every other OS out there. people hate on LG, well i'm using a LG V20 right now and it's definitely smoother and snappier than the Note 7. OnePlus 3 too, is smoother than the Note 7.
with that said, the phone IS beautiful to look at. the edge display give it a really cool bezel-less effect, but it's not practical (edge features are redundant) AND makes the phone more likely to break than "normal" phones.
if money is no issue or you are a gadget geek who just like to own the biggest, most hyped it product (i belong in the this group), then by all means, the Note 7 is a worthy purchase. but to the very average consumer, like, say my middle-aged mom? i wouldn't advise her to buy the note 7 for $850 when there are $400 phones that more than gets the job done for daily use.

plastic screen protector works, but yeah, no temper glass ones.
i've tried a few temper glass protectors, they either don't cover the sides, or cover the sides but lack adhesive in the middle, which makes the screen less responsive, especially when typing.
For me it would be the green battery icon All other things I can live with (facepalm)

Yeah I think you have talked yourself out of the phone before even trying it. I see you post on every thread and its something negative about it without even have used it.

It's the best phone currently made, so really no reason not to get it. I think the main thing I don't like is the non-removable battery, which had Samsung put a removable battery in it then the whole recall thing would have been as simple as them sending us a new battery. But overall there is very little to complain about with the phone and a ton of things to like.

goes to show, any cheap or non standard batteries (or even OE) from ebay can easily cause the same issues as samsung have faced.

have you tried the nano/liquid ones? I've given up with plastic and tempered glass crap. Its a better experience not using one at all.

light leak? should I return?

Just got my note 7 in the mail. Looks amazing. However I do see the light around the sides hitting the metal bezel and on the top right there's a bit more of a gap and I'm actually able to squeeze the screen closer to the bezel and close the gap. Is this normal? I can fit paper in between quite a bit too
Why won't this XDA app let me upload pics! Keeps saying network error.
The gap is a manufacturing intention according to the user manual, page 228. I guess it depends on your expectation and willingness to take the Note as it is. Mine is sealed on the replacement, I feel that Samsung made mention of the gap in the user manual to cover manufacturing tolerances this time around.
I think this because the S7 Edge and S6 Edge+ had wide ranging display fitments between identical models, in my experience.
Can you slide a piece of paper inside?
With the rush to get replacement units out, I expect the defect rate will be higher than usual. You should do an exchange, otherwise you'll have crap under that screen eventually.

I dont think that gap is normal, I'm looking at my device right now and I can tell you there shouldnt be a gap large enough for paper to get through, or that will be some low level IP68 rating...
God I'm pissed. Why can't I upload pics on here? Yes I can fit paper through all around. Only top right spot can I push the screen and close the gap a bit. I called Verizon and they won't ship me out a new one unless I pay $215 again. Upgrade crap. I can't afford another $215 our of my account and wait 10 days for a refund!
Ya that's BS. If that were to happen to me I'd walk into my retailer and demand a new unit especially when it's still under warranty. To me it would clearly be an imperfect device and when I'm paying that much money for it I expect the best it can be.

Yeah i can slide paper inside but it stops a few mm in and doesn't extend so I can see it under the screen or anything. Only the top right can I push the screen down and close the gap more. Everywhere else is tight but can still see light reflecting off bezel. Idk if that's normal or not. At this point idk what to do. I can't even upload pics on here.

I'm an hour and a half from any Verizon store...
Sounds like many others that had this on their devices. Not that i'm trying to erode your annoyance, it's your perception - but yeah, the gap is normal to a point in this Note version.

Good luck man hopefully all goes well and you get a device you're happy with. If they give you another one I'd inspect it in store too.
Why the hell can't I upload a pic of the gap...tried with the note and my s6... says network error.
Here is the original thread on the topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/help/please-check-phone-build-quality-issue-t3451813
Idk what to do at this point. I bet most of them have somewhat of a gap. Maybe I should just keep it.
Have a read of that thread, it's perfectly normal on some units and doesn't affect the device. If you're worried, give it a bath and take action in these early days. Enjoy your phone, it's stunning and I'm sure it's water resistant still.
Okay. Im feeling better about it after reading that thread.... the neo hybrid case I order will cover up the leaks anyway...
So I shouldnt worry that one spot of the gap(top right) I can pinch and see the gap decrease a bit? I cant do this to any other spot.
Just upload to an image host site and post a link...
I would try out the device in water, it's likely very well sealed but will give you peace of mind, if it fails, new device, otherwise it's a device you know is perfectly fine.
