Hi guys,
I'm trying to unlock my AT&T 4.1.2 Note II, and from this thread, it says that unlocking is dependent on the version of baseband, and a UVALK8 baseband phone could be unlocked even if it's on 4.1.2.
Therefore, I'd like to know if there is a guide on how to restore baseband? My current baseband is UCAMC3, 4.1.2, non-rooted.
Much help appreciated!
You would need to push the radio image via Odin. ..
And the image must be signed properly or you will show a modified status and your flash counter will increase. ..(might anyway)
I'm not sure about the radio image your referring to. ..as it's not an ATT image obviously. ..
That being said. ..If you push that image. ..You will lose connection with ATT until you flash back to a proper image. .
And you need a network connection to perform the unlock I believe. ..
Otherwise. ..your going to get stuck. ..
We have 2 or 3 unlocking threads in the general section I think. ..and you should look at those in detail before proceeding. ..imho....g

Ok. You need to root it first to make it easier for you. That k8 your referring to nit sure what that's for. But you having mc3 then you have the latest AT&T modem.
The modem you need is here:
http://db.tt/YLhvhftM
This^^^^^ first modem release
https://copy.com/mdaZG
This^^^^^^ newest AT&T modem
And if you read that no need to downgrade the Rom to a 4.1.1 That's correct, all you needed to do is downgrade your modem/radio unlock the phone via*#197328640*# the flash back the newest modem and your done!!
If your UN SURE about ANY of this then you don't need to be performing none of these steps. Because like what he^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ said might want to read a lil More on this before you jump in two feet first. Because I've read some stories of, dead phone's. From trying to unlock them via the hidden MENU!! Fyi

Thanks guys.
So i can actually brick my phone trying to unlock?
Btw, is this the steps for restoring baseband:
1-root your phone if its not rooted
2-find a 4.1.1 modem suitable for your device (easy to find)
3-flash it via cwm
4-follow the rest of the unlocking guide
5*optional*-reflash a newer modem or an custom rom

If I remember right, once on 4.3 you can no longer use the free unlock method. You will have to buy a code online. If you have a T999, you can try flashing the 4.1.1 modem and see if you can do it though. You wont get any signal if you are on a 4.3 rom until you flash back to the 4.3 modem btw.

You dont need to be rooted, but you do need a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) in order to flash the modem. I never made any odin flashable packages for the modems, only recovery flashable.
Just so you know, flashing a custom recovery will void your warranty if its still valid and you care about that.
Thanks bro, I don't care about warranty.... So all I have to do now is flash a recovery then flash the modem, hmm wonder if anyone has ever got it to work like that before tho.... If it doesn't tho can u recommend a cheap unlocking site please

All I remember for sure is that on 4.1.2, samsung patched against this unlock method, but we were still able to flash the 4.1.1 modem and unlock. In 4.3, you cant use an older modem or youll get no signal, but Im just not sure if you can still use the free unlock method that way.
Ebay had several very cheap options at one point. Also, http://gsmliberty.net has/had(?) a promo where if you posted a video of yourself unlocking using their method they would refund you your money, essentially making it free. Not sure if that is still valid though.

There were several mentions of specific sellers that only charged a few bucks in the unlock thread if you want to dig in to find them.

Any 4.1.1 modem, as long as its one for your model device. If you wanted you could see if flashing a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom would make a difference, but as before, I kinda doubt it will.
When we were updated to 4.1.2, and found that the unlock method was patched, all we had to do was flash an older modem. Didnt matter what build it was from.
agree

Hello
I have SGH-M919. First, it had stock ROM, stock firmware, and it was SIM locked to T-Mobile, so I unlocked it with SRS server service (I live outside the US, so labs in my area didn't have the tools to unlock it, since it's only a US variant. Also, other methods of unlocking did not work for me, unfortunately).
In the unlocking process I had to flash custom modem file with Odin (it was required for SRS to work). After that, I flashed CWM and CM11 and everything worked fine except the GPS. It didn't work: no GPS satellites were found.
How can I resolve this issue? Thanks.
Go to the CyanogenMob forum. There are threads asking the same question regarding CM11

I will try there, thanks. Although I have to mention that I think that's the problem isn't with CM but the modem file/kernel/etc

If it might be the modem or kernel then you can try re flashing the modem or trying a new kernel. You'll see a lot of GPS issues being asked about in the CM threads, tho.

Just flash the stock modem since you said it was modified, unless its still needed.. However, many users have lost GPS after flashing aosp/cm.. The fix is simple. First make a nandroid backup, flash a touchwiz ROM, get a GPS lock, and then restore your nandroid.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I already tried flashing stock rom but GPS didn't work (it did work before the unlocking), so it has to be a modem problem. I couldn't find a stock modem file anywhere.
Currently I'm downloading another stock ROM, so I will be able to bring up lbstestmode which might fix my issue.
EDIT:
The new stock ROM works fine, and the GPS was able to find signal. So, I as ou suggested and recovered the Nandroid I made before through the recovery, but now I can't find GPS again. What can I do?
NB4 modem is posted in the general section

Is this a permanent fix for GPS?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have searched for stock modem and found this.
Unfortunately, I do have a KNOX counter in download mode so it doesn't fit.
This guide links to another modem file (that works with the KNOX bootloader), but it is for MK2, and I need BN4.. What can I do?
EDIT:
The issue is FIXED! The GPS works perfectly! Ultimately, I did install the MK2 modem and although I have 4.4.2 BN4 it works just fine.
Thanks for everyone who helped me.

I don't think I should, I have a bootloader with Knox (it was stated that it's only good for 4.2.2 bootloaders - ones without Knox. That's why I installed the MK2.

Still, the MK2 firmware just works better for me.
Also, if I can't flash the fixed NB4 firmware because the bootloader has Knox, how will it help me if I install the non-fixed version (which is included in the firmware)? I'd be stuck with the bad NB4! There's no way to install the fixed NB4 if I have bootloader with Knox, if I understand this whole thing correctly.
P.S I am not intending to argue or anything, I am just writing what happened to me. So, if someone has the same problem and he googles it he will be able to find some useful info that took me about 2 days to find (and your generous help in this thread, of course!

I noticed that I was getting bad cellular reception in an area that should have full mobile coverage. So I flashed the 4.4.2 fixed BN4 modem and the reception is way better (from one bar to 3 or 4), and the GPS is still working.
So, the BN4 modem did flash although I have bootloader with Knox (so it isn't supposed to work according the the modem thread)
P.S. I'm quite confused. Sorry for the noob question, but what's the difference between ROM and firmware? Is the firmware just a package which includes the ROM, bootloader and modem?
I recently sim unlocked my SGH-M919 and I'm using it on the AT&T network, but the phone still has T-Mobile software and apps and won't ota update, which is kinda frustrating lol. So is there a way to get everything switched to AT&T?
And if I were to factory reset the phone am I going to lose the sim unlock?
Reset or ROM flashing won't undo sim unlock. You can flash latest T-Mobile firmware via Odin. See links in General section. You can't actually run ATT firmware due to slightly different hardware platform. And their bootloaders are locked so you wouldn't want to! I recommend you flash latest firmware, then install debloated ROM and install just apps you wish.

What if i used regionlock app to unlock my phone (i had to root flash 4.2.2 modem and use regionlock app then flash back to 4.4.2 modem to do this) can i still update to latest firmware or flash roms and modems and will i still be able to keep my phone unlocked?
No issues here with unlocked (region away) device and roms. I stick mostly to i9505 roms and not tmobile ones.

I have not updated any firmware on the s4? Only flashed roms aosp/cm/stock bases. The s4 is my wifes phone so I only flashed about a dozen different roms ranging from 4.2-6.0.1 and never lost unlock.
The reason for this is that information used to lock/unlock is stored in a location untouched by roms and modems. I also own a note 2 which I unlocked and it only lost unlock once but that was due to playing with stuff even most advanced users dont mess with.
So feel free to explore and enjoy the range of roms out there but stick to tmobile only firmware (radios/bootloaders) and tmobile or i9505 roms. If you stray outside those two sections you could end up with major issues including bricks if you flash firmware that is not for tmobile.

Hey all, have the above mentioned phone, been wiped clean and factory reset, SD card blank. But when connected to internet it starts downloading an update from Att. Now I want to root, from what I've read bootloader is unlocked, and then twrp and ROM etc. Should I take the update then root or better to root and do incremental updates then ROM. Tremendous amount of info here and am still a little unsure which way to go. Thanks

The bootloader will remain unlocked regardless of whether you do or do not take the OTA updates.
If the phone is not sim unlocked and it is still running 4.1.2, downgrade the phone to 4.1.1 using the stock ROM from sammobile.com and use the free method to sim unlock before flashing or updating.
