Sent to Samsung for repair, am I rooted? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Ok I paid out of pocket to have samsung repair glass. I sent it in rooted and unlocked. Am I still rooted and unlocked? I find it annoying that they felt the need to delete my rom that I had and refreshed my phone to stock when all I wanted was the glass replaced. Btw they did not send back a refurbished phone.
1) Do I still have my recovery and am I rooted?
2) If not, do I have to go through steps again?
3) If so, do I need to be unlocked to root?

I have decided to hold back on root at the moment due to the flash counter and OTA break issue.
Its killing me though to have to live with such high lcd density atm
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
i'm holding off as well...
waiting to see what sort of custom roms appear in the coming weeks before i decide what to do with it...
aside from Titanium Backup, i don't really use a lot of root packages... changing the DPI would be nice, but i can live with it for the moment until the devs get coding
M
I'm holding off for now too, I really like having this phone stock at the moment but if Google wallet comes out for root then I will.
One idea if you afraid from raising flash counter.
Flash pre rooted rom
Use mobile odin to flash stock rom.
This won't raise flash counter.

Warranty will be voids.
Though soon triangle away application will get support for note2, then it can be reset.
Edit
Just looked your sign
PS : any special reason for asking? As you have already used sgs3,note and difficult to believe you don't know it.

Any ideas if the break OTA problems can be fixed that comes with rooting?

I don't think it can be fixed as recovery is custom.
But let's hope it can get fixed.

You need to choose what you want:
1. Have root and forget about OTA`s and Kies and use CWM and PC/Mobile Odin or
2. Stay on stock firmware and forget about root all together.
You can`t have it both ways mate
You will never be able to install OTA`s if you are rooted as you have a custom recovery.
ok still some what a new bee im looking to get note 2 unlock and run it on att..i have a gs3 on att..
i like rooting to get rid of my crap ware on att..but unlock is nice pure TW and i like it..so if i root and theres a update do i just flash the new update ? coming from a rooted stock TW?

ROOT!
Then u can clean bloatware, like gmaps, g+, ChatOn etc.
Hi Ketan, i have a question for you, i want to install the rooted rom but before doing that i would want to take the nandroid backup of the stock rom. Can you please give me step by step guide as to how i should go ahead wih it . Thanks and await your reply.
Without root you can't do nandroid backup.

Here you can download a pre-rooted stock rom`s without raising the binary counter http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386. Read the OP well as there are different rom`s to download.
Will it do full wipe or not thx

Q) should I root my note 2?? Or does it avoid warranty?

I want to root my note2 but worried if I do so. N phone messes up. Will insurance on it get me a new one? Even if device Is rooted? Thanks. Im a new comer.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Any device you root VOIDS the warranty. Even if you flash back to stock a lot of devices has flash counters, which tell you how many times device has been flashed with custom roms. Make sure your device forum has the files to go back to stock and find out if your device does or does not have a flash counter. If you can go back to stock and reset counter then I would definitely root it.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Root Toolkit has the option to reset flash counter. But due to the risk of using it. Only use it if you have to.

Don't root at all. Note 2 is perfect
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.
Rooting requires reading, research, and knowledge. If you familiarize yourself with the proper process and procedures, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to return your device to a returnable/warrant-able state. Rooting isn't for everyone, and only you can decide if it's with the risk or not of possibly damaging your device. Proper research is essential.

THIS IS ONLY FOR SPH-L900!!!
First you need to download this on your pc:
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyNote2/rooting/GalaxyNote2RootSprint.zip
You find 4 files in it.
Put Odin and Odin.ini file in ONE map.
Connect your phone to your pc and copy the SUPERSU zip file to your sdcard > download map
(first you need to install your phone drivers, so you can copy files to your phone)
Disconnect the usb
Turn of your phone.
Go to download mode (volume down + home + power)
You get a warning screen, press: volume up.
Connect your phone to your pc
Open Odin
Now you see a yellow box: COM, with a random number, be sure its yellow.
You need to unzip openrecovery-twrp till its a TAR file (be sure its a TAR file otherwise you get brick)
Press: PDA
Select the TAR file
Press START
Now Odin will start, if you see PASS you can disconnect your phonr and turn it off.
After that go to Recovery Mode: volume up + home + power.
When in Recovery Mode, press:
INSTALL
Select your download map and select: SUPERSU.zip
After installing reboot your phone.
Its rooted now!
Ps. Im not responsepal for any damage at your phone if you do something wrong.

[urgent] Checking whether Warranty has been void!

I bought a Galaxy Note II off a friend's friend yesterday. Loving it, but there's one issue. If I try to update it via Settings->About, I get the error "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". And the device's status is 'Modified' in Settings->About.
What can be the cause of this? I got this phone in factory resetted condition, and I've factory resetted it myself as well. So it's unrooted now. I'm not sure if it was unrooted before I got it, or about any other modifications actually.
Can you guys help me here, I just want to check whether my warranty still exists or not. Or did the guy I buy it from do something to void the warranty? There must be some way to check. Because this error is still a mystery according to this 10 page thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947305), and I'm probably going to visit the service center.
Did you ever root it ?
If not it can't be factory rooted under any conditions.
Go into download mode and check there.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
No I didn't root it, but the guy I bought it from might have rooted it and then factory resetted it before giving it to me.

What does this mean? It can't be factory rooted? And what is download mode?
Was it sealed when you got it ?
Also many people report this issue.
And if it was some official store then 1% chance that you received it rooted.
If it was not some official store then return it to the guy you got it from. He'll know what to do.

No as I mentioned I got it from a friend's friend, it's around 10-15 days used. So if he rooted it, and then factory resetted it to hide it, my warranty would be void? No way to undo it?

Yep everything seems official, it looks like this one:
http://galaxynote2root.com/wp-conte...nary-counter-rooted-galaxynote2-8-690x366.jpg
So my warranty is intact? What else could be causing this issue of status coming as 'Custom' in the Settings->About?
Some modifications to system partition.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Here's what you do:
You boot into download mode (volume down+home+power) and check. Check every stat and tell them to us. Here are the ones for a 100% unmodified device: CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO, CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL, SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICIAL (in your case, system status is likely to not be normal)
Factory reset then flash stock rom then factory reset.

Help with stock rom please!

I bought a galaxy note 2 off a bloke he said it was unlocked turns out it was rooted! I want to go back to stock but not sure what the original stock rom was I know it's definitely UK but not sure if it's factory unlocked or on a specific network! I've downloaded the UK international stock rom think it's btu or something like that! What's the dangers please will it brick my phone! Have tried to ring him but his phones off and has been all week any help be much appreciated

From what I read yes. But there are certain internal alterations that techs can see if they looked deep enough. That guide should set you straight if you're simply attempting a warranty exchange. (Depending on where you purchased device)
Thanks I also asked square trade and rooting does not void a warranty
