Any device you root VOIDS the warranty. Even if you flash back to stock a lot of devices has flash counters, which tell you how many times device has been flashed with custom roms. Make sure your device forum has the files to go back to stock and find out if your device does or does not have a flash counter. If you can go back to stock and reset counter then I would definitely root it.

Root Toolkit has the option to reset flash counter. But due to the risk of using it. Only use it if you have to.

Don't root at all. Note 2 is perfect
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.
Rooting requires reading, research, and knowledge. If you familiarize yourself with the proper process and procedures, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to return your device to a returnable/warrant-able state. Rooting isn't for everyone, and only you can decide if it's with the risk or not of possibly damaging your device. Proper research is essential.

THIS IS ONLY FOR SPH-L900!!!
First you need to download this on your pc:
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyNote2/rooting/GalaxyNote2RootSprint.zip
You find 4 files in it.
Put Odin and Odin.ini file in ONE map.
Connect your phone to your pc and copy the SUPERSU zip file to your sdcard > download map
(first you need to install your phone drivers, so you can copy files to your phone)
Disconnect the usb
Turn of your phone.
Go to download mode (volume down + home + power)
You get a warning screen, press: volume up.
Connect your phone to your pc
Open Odin
Now you see a yellow box: COM, with a random number, be sure its yellow.
You need to unzip openrecovery-twrp till its a TAR file (be sure its a TAR file otherwise you get brick)
Press: PDA
Select the TAR file
Press START
Now Odin will start, if you see PASS you can disconnect your phonr and turn it off.
After that go to Recovery Mode: volume up + home + power.
When in Recovery Mode, press:
INSTALL
Select your download map and select: SUPERSU.zip
After installing reboot your phone.
Its rooted now!
Ps. Im not responsepal for any damage at your phone if you do something wrong.

i'm holding off as well...
waiting to see what sort of custom roms appear in the coming weeks before i decide what to do with it...
aside from Titanium Backup, i don't really use a lot of root packages... changing the DPI would be nice, but i can live with it for the moment until the devs get coding
M
I'm holding off for now too, I really like having this phone stock at the moment but if Google wallet comes out for root then I will.
One idea if you afraid from raising flash counter.
Flash pre rooted rom
Use mobile odin to flash stock rom.
This won't raise flash counter.

You need to choose what you want:
1. Have root and forget about OTA`s and Kies and use CWM and PC/Mobile Odin or
2. Stay on stock firmware and forget about root all together.
You can`t have it both ways mate
You will never be able to install OTA`s if you are rooted as you have a custom recovery.

Hey guys so i rooted my phone using odin and was attempting to put on cyanogen mod 10.1 when it failed and i restored to factory settings. then i thought ill restore to my previously saved backup and it stayed at the samsung screen that lights up behind the white lettters. now i tried going into recovery mode and restoring to factory and also tried clear cache and delvik cache. only problem is it still got stuck at the samsung screen so i then tried to reroot it on obin but since there was a binary count of 1 it didnt work what can i dooo
binary count wouldn't stop anything from flashing. after flashing a stock rom with odin again, make sure to go directory into recovery to wipe data/factory reset and then boot up the phone.
I got it working then I tried to put cyanogen 10.1 on and it crashed again idno what the deal is I put it on sd card and loaded it with root manager

root manager? or rom manager?
sent from my I747
Don't use rom manager to flash a rom. Odin back to stock (Samsung devices are special that way) or use one of the root injected firmwares in one of the stickies in the development section. Once you get set up, download goo manager from the play store (you must be rooted to use it). From the menu of goo manager install recovery script, you will then have twrp recovery installed. Then follow the instructions in the op for the rom you want to flash. If this seems foreign to you then Odin back to stock and stay there. If you want to continue to modify your device read and read some more. Tony stark has a thread with all the information you need. Just Google search.

I'm used to my Galaxy S2 I guess. It never said custom. Tried Odin k0ane's stock file. Still says custom. I thought I was going to have to return the phone. It started using hotspot data for all data. I was almost to my 500 meg limit. A factory reset fixed it and Tmo gave me an extra 2gb hotspot data for this month only for free.

Official is all stock factory system. Custom means you altered the system and your warranty is probably void. That's why people try to flash back to stock if they need to get their phone repaired or replaced.

Take a look ant the N2 and S3 forums - they have threads on returning to stock and i am sure we will see one here - AS SOON as and only when an official Samsung TMo firmware is available.
If you break or brick your device before then you will have to wait before sending it in to Samsung or TMo.

From what I read yes. But there are certain internal alterations that techs can see if they looked deep enough. That guide should set you straight if you're simply attempting a warranty exchange. (Depending on where you purchased device)
