I have decided to hold back on root at the moment due to the flash counter and OTA break issue.
Its killing me though to have to live with such high lcd density atm
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
i'm holding off as well...
waiting to see what sort of custom roms appear in the coming weeks before i decide what to do with it...
aside from Titanium Backup, i don't really use a lot of root packages... changing the DPI would be nice, but i can live with it for the moment until the devs get coding
M
I'm holding off for now too, I really like having this phone stock at the moment but if Google wallet comes out for root then I will.
One idea if you afraid from raising flash counter.
Flash pre rooted rom
Use mobile odin to flash stock rom.
This won't raise flash counter.

Warranty will be voids.
Though soon triangle away application will get support for note2, then it can be reset.
Edit
Just looked your sign
PS : any special reason for asking? As you have already used sgs3,note and difficult to believe you don't know it.

You need to choose what you want:
1. Have root and forget about OTA`s and Kies and use CWM and PC/Mobile Odin or
2. Stay on stock firmware and forget about root all together.
You can`t have it both ways mate
You will never be able to install OTA`s if you are rooted as you have a custom recovery.
ok still some what a new bee im looking to get note 2 unlock and run it on att..i have a gs3 on att..
i like rooting to get rid of my crap ware on att..but unlock is nice pure TW and i like it..so if i root and theres a update do i just flash the new update ? coming from a rooted stock TW?
thanks
ROOT!
Then u can clean bloatware, like gmaps, g+, ChatOn etc.
Hi Ketan, i have a question for you, i want to install the rooted rom but before doing that i would want to take the nandroid backup of the stock rom. Can you please give me step by step guide as to how i should go ahead wih it . Thanks and await your reply.
Without root you can't do nandroid backup.

Here you can download a pre-rooted stock rom`s without raising the binary counter http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386. Read the OP well as there are different rom`s to download.
Will it do full wipe or not thx

Why not just use Odin to push the recovery Once you have cwm, rooting is almost pointless. Just flash a full Rom / Kernel via zip

At a minimum though, I'd flash a rooted deodexed/zipaligned/CIQ free stock release ;-)

The previous answers cover it. I went back to stock on my S 3 for the last official ICS update, but was really a WOT. Don't have to ODIN back to stock unless you want to run on stock.
You would probably see an Odin update (which will install the firmware and and Modem when a simple ROM flash would not) pretty soon after it is OTA'd, and you could use this and not have to have the hassle of going back to stock to get it. If it is not a complete ROM, you will have to be sure you are already updated to the firmware that the OTA would be updating.

Hey guys so i rooted my phone using odin and was attempting to put on cyanogen mod 10.1 when it failed and i restored to factory settings. then i thought ill restore to my previously saved backup and it stayed at the samsung screen that lights up behind the white lettters. now i tried going into recovery mode and restoring to factory and also tried clear cache and delvik cache. only problem is it still got stuck at the samsung screen so i then tried to reroot it on obin but since there was a binary count of 1 it didnt work what can i dooo
binary count wouldn't stop anything from flashing. after flashing a stock rom with odin again, make sure to go directory into recovery to wipe data/factory reset and then boot up the phone.
I got it working then I tried to put cyanogen 10.1 on and it crashed again idno what the deal is I put it on sd card and loaded it with root manager

root manager? or rom manager?
sent from my I747
Don't use rom manager to flash a rom. Odin back to stock (Samsung devices are special that way) or use one of the root injected firmwares in one of the stickies in the development section. Once you get set up, download goo manager from the play store (you must be rooted to use it). From the menu of goo manager install recovery script, you will then have twrp recovery installed. Then follow the instructions in the op for the rom you want to flash. If this seems foreign to you then Odin back to stock and stay there. If you want to continue to modify your device read and read some more. Tony stark has a thread with all the information you need. Just Google search.

Entirely up to you, honestly it isn't that hard to make a backup of all your apps with 'Helium' and restore onto the stock rom, etc. It's the challenge everyone faces when flashing ROMs. I would wait until there's an update and see what changes it brings before reverting. But you will want to download the stock .tar for instances you need to go back to stock.
Is there a way to root the device again and still maintain having all blotware removed? Or will it add back all carrier and third party apps?

All official updates are complete with bloat, the only way is to install the update and remove the bloat afterwards or wait for someone to release a debloated rooted build.

Just wait. When an official update is released a debloated version usually appears on the forums that is prerooted and ready for CWM/TWRP.

It's because we rooted, but uninstalling it won't reset it because of the ticker, anything installed after the factory condition will show it as custom.

But if your rooted in the first place why does it matter you can install any firmware/software updates yourself

Just remember... that if you root without triggering the Knox flag...
Can I flash custom recovery/kernel/rom without tripping KNOX flags?
No, Flashing a custom ROM will trip the flag
No, Flashing a custom Kernel will trip the flag
No, Flashing a custom Recovery will trip the flag
If the knox flag doesn't mean anything to you then you can do just about anything you want to do.... except reset the Knox flag that is.
I don't really care about the Knox flag thinking about rooting. It today with auto root

NOTE 3
Man, can someone give me the safest step by step instructions that are SAFE. I'm reading around ALOT of people complaining note 3 is a hassle, lots of bricks phone not turning on. Lost of data just naming a few. What is the best most safest obsolete way? That I will not mess up by phone. I read and follow carefully but seems it just happens to the unfortunate?
Note tres
Hell yeah its worth it. Ive rooted 2 note 3's. Flash the cf file and whatever recovery you want to use. I prefer twrp on this phone. Takes 10 minutes tops to do both and the phone and process is idiot proof.

Ok, I'm rooted! But tried to install twrp via goo and nothing read that trwp manager app from app store will install the recovery but I open it and all it is, IS the recovery where is the option to install and stuff. Installing a rom while phone is on is imposible idk how people saying it works? If odin is the way. Then which file do I download? Notice the first one is a .tar file. I don't think they'll check that deep into the phones to see if the knox is tripped. My Note 3 is rooted using the "root de la vega method"
This method doesn't trip the knox and I have also flashed it back to stock and reflash the steps just to verify knox status and it's still intact..until I can find a ROM that can quench my flash addiction. . . this is my safe bet . . . in 6months i'll JUMP if a better phablet comes to T-MO. . . .
