We can now consider the i747/M an outdated device after the 18-month Open Handset Alliance requirements. There is no incentive for Samsung or your carrier to roll-out firmware releases for our phones now that the S4 is the current flagship.

I agree. Unlikely and am pretty sure it will be S5 time by then anyway.

I really think that it's simply a naming thing. It's already been said that they didn't exchange any money for the deal. I really doubt that they'll be any other form of marketing except for kitkat's competition to win a few android products.

Not only is the Open Handset Alliance dead, it was DOA.
That 18-months things was never enforced by any OEM.

Interesting that it says 8.94mm thickness, which is the correct thickness for the HSPA+ model, but according to unconfirmed reports from some Chinese sites the thickness of the LTE model should be 9.34mm. This could mean one of two things: RadioShack actually will have two models of the Galaxy Nexus, and they happen to list the HSPA+ model thickness; or like martonikaj said, just a poor copy-paste job from marketing material.

Yeah if they go to the "version a year" model that Apple has, then that will be quite some time from now. I agree: Android probably won't be around then.

Well they're already going 1 version a year and have said so. Guess we'll see. I just don't think that 5 years from now our phones will be running Android as we think of it today. Don't think this naming convention issue is something Google needs to worry about
I don't think we'll see Android live to make it to the letter Z...

The Galaxy Gear requires Bluetooth 4.0.
Bluetooth 4.0 is a feature of Android 4.3.
In October the Galaxy note 2 will receive an update that allows compatibility with the Galaxy Gear.
Simple deduction proves that we will have Android 4.3 next month.

Thankfully our phone is nearly identical, so the rom can actually be used as a base.
Not like most galaxy phones where the International and North American versions are vastly different
International releases always happen first ...
ATT in the US market is last ...if ever ..
Regardless ...once an international release is made our devs will hook us up...

I think it is more the opportunity to capitalize and advertise....
They could have picked a generic name, but that wouldn't get their logo and name on candy bar wrappers across the globe.
They are a business after all

Oh that makes sense. Good advertising I guess, but I would have preferred something more generic. I just hope this doesn't develop into a trend where the following updates are called Reese's or M&M's

Yeah, it mildly annoys me too, but as long as they don't start sideloading ads into the OS or something, I'll be happy.

Advertising isn't cheap ...and if it can be had for free ....well
It's just the principle of the thing for me anyway...
Ya gotta think somebody will sue over it....won't they ??

Sue? For what?
Both companies mutually agreed upon it

The only reason the early names were generic & not sponsored (just like everything else, every venue & arena) is because Android was still considered an unpolished "geek's" device. Until recently, no other company wanted their name associated with it. If the very first iteration of Android hade been as stable as ICS or JB, we would likely have already seen other sponsored names. Maybe honeycomb would have been Hot Tamale.
