Lets just hope we get 4.3, which doesn't look like it may happen.

How doesn't it? We didn't get 4.2 because they announced they were skipping it to instead give us 4.3...
They officially announced it, while what you're saying is conjecture.
Watching Galaxy Gear Unpack event the guy said watch is not compatible with other devices at the moment except for Galaxy Note 3 (I might missed Galaxy S4), but wait till October and galaxy s3/note 2 will receive update. It could be 4.2 or 4.3.

I think what they said is that the Note 2 would be made to be compatible with Gear come October, but never said it would come in and update to 4.3. It could just be an app that is available to download from Samsungs app store.

From Telstras website..
The Galaxy Gear requires Bluetooth 4.0.
Bluetooth 4.0 is a feature of Android 4.3.
In October the Galaxy note 2 will receive an update that allows compatibility with the Galaxy Gear.
Simple deduction proves that we will have Android 4.3 next month.

It'll be ported quickly then, so not an issue.
Thankfully our phone is nearly identical, so the rom can actually be used as a base.
Not like most galaxy phones where the International and North American versions are vastly different
International releases always happen first ...
ATT in the US market is last ...if ever ..
Regardless ...once an international release is made our devs will hook us up...
Unless you want stock bloatware...then you'll wait ...g

And now it's back ...(getting my pills )....LOL

The only reason the early names were generic & not sponsored (just like everything else, every venue & arena) is because Android was still considered an unpolished "geek's" device. Until recently, no other company wanted their name associated with it. If the very first iteration of Android hade been as stable as ICS or JB, we would likely have already seen other sponsored names. Maybe honeycomb would have been Hot Tamale.

We can now consider the i747/M an outdated device after the 18-month Open Handset Alliance requirements. There is no incentive for Samsung or your carrier to roll-out firmware releases for our phones now that the S4 is the current flagship.
I agree. Unlikely and am pretty sure it will be S5 time by then anyway.
I really think that it's simply a naming thing. It's already been said that they didn't exchange any money for the deal. I really doubt that they'll be any other form of marketing except for kitkat's competition to win a few android products.

FYI October date if for international Touchwiz phones, not US carriers. Will be months later before US carriers accept what Sammy gives them, adds their files and then decides when it is a good time to push it.
To add to that^, I have a Galaxy S4, that I'm selling, but every other major carrier in the US, Canada, and really much of the world, has received an update so you can move apps to the SD card months ago.
T-Mobile? Not a single word about it.
It will be months after international gets 4.3 for the other 3 major carriers in the US. And likely months after that that T-Mobile sends it out.

Im with you that's why I stick to stock roms but tweak them to what I want, tired of flashing different roms to find one that is close to what I want but has extra crap I don't want either broken or its just like having the boatware the carrier installs. Yes the Developers do a great job here at xda over the cell phone carriers. I haven't found one that fits what I want( mostly get rid of bloatware and a few tweaks I like) and one thing is I don't complain and do give thanks, cause I don't develop.
To all you developers who read this you do amazing work. I'm not putting you down, I'm a select few who likes to take your mods and add them to my stock rom that's all

Maybe it's just this will be the third time I have gone through this. First with the behold 2, was promised to us that we would get froyo, which never happened. Second with vibrant, which was promised gingerbread, which also never happened. After that I went through nexus s, nexus s4g then galaxy nexus. Gnex was a bad daddy phone that still can hang with the newest. I was on the fence whether to get nexus 4(which my wife has) or the note. I decided that the screen and pen were more important to me then having newest software. I knew 100% what I was getting into. In the past I have complained to tmobile, signed petitions, complained to samsux, with null results. You may call me a corporate sheep, while I call myself an educated consumer.

And T-Mobile ain't bad seems like we get updates faster than the other US carriers. Although I am using At&t note on T-Mo. one scenario would be once samsung releases the final build -- cyanogenmod gets ahold of it and and puts together a tmobile port for it -- and they start charging for roms maybe. they are in business now to make money and their stable roms tend to be just that.. i'd pay a reasonable amount for a stable rom with all the bells and whistles. I said CM since they went public as a corp- other modders have great roms too

Doubt cm will port an OEM ROM, and especially now that they are technically a OEM. Their goal is to sell the cm experience. Now that they are a corporate they are now for profit. Now no one knows exactly how they are going to acneive that goal. Ads, teaming up with an OEM like Google does with lg and has done with Samsung and HTC. Maybe they will have their own app store. Maybe charge for the installer. Who knows

More like January or Feb, I'd say or maybe never...at least for the Sprint variant. It isn't in Sprint's interest to push updates unless the other carriers do. Of course Samsung wants to get these updates moving because they want the public to feel they'll be supported if they purchase a Samsung branded device but brand loyalty isn't in Sprints interests unless the brand is Sprint and that of course is usually maintained at the end of a very thin thread as it is.
As for the possibility of receiving the 4.3 update. I'm always excited about OTA updates because updates play a fairly big role in future versions of Android. The more updates there are the more well understood it is what the public wants/needs from future versions because of the broader spectrum of users providing feedback.
For my own personal device...I don't care. I run what I want on my device anyway regardless of whatever Samsung/Sprint/Google push. I don't give a rats ass about having a "pure" Android experience or being the first to get the latest version (no offense to the Nexus fans) either. I want my device dirty and nasty with a big moustache. I don't want be like one of those creeps that hangs around the strip clubs but never pays for a lap dance...I'm in the champaign room and let me tell you there is more going on in there than the song says. Why do you think I'm hanging around here? Trick it, brick it, fix it, trick it and brick it again...that's what it all about.

Yea don't really care because Google separated their core services from the operating system so most of the really great feature are now pushed through Google rather than being a part of a new os version.

I love how in this thread it's bunch of people complaining about how updates don't come fast enough and then when you look at the next thread in this section it's all about getting rid of the updater to stop those "pesky" notifications trying to get you to update... lol

Pretty sure that you're missing the point.
The updates that we all are anxious for are system updates that ROM devs can work with, make better ROMs for us all. Definitely worth "complaining" about.
That other thread is about a fault where the phone thinks it needs a software update, but not really, or the update in question is actually not desirable for whatever reason.
Welcome to XDA.

I've been thinking long n hard about that, as an option. I do love my Note2, with the exception of the plastic, it's a badass device. But I don't actually use the pen as much as I thought I would. So taking a long look at the HTC Mega (?), and hoping that it makes it to the US... I allow myself a new phone every year, it being a hobby I indulge myself in, and I always buy outright, no ETF charges...

HTC maxx, not mega
I'll never buy any Samsung or any other company's phone...I'll stick with googles' own phone, this way I can get updated ASAP.....have to wait until next year to get the Kitkat on my Note 2, and didn't even get the 4.3 yet...GOD what's wrong with Samsung..?
Does your phone not work with the current firmware? Did you purchase a license agreement with Samsung or your mobile carrier saying that your phone would ever receive more than bug fixes?
Hmm...

I love Samsung. Custom ROM makes everything better.

Couldn't have said it any better myself
Omfg... We're getting 4.3 in a few days. Calm down lol! First week of December. Not sure what's with all the whining. I agree... I'd rather wait a couple of months for 4.4 but still... Better than nothing!

Have fun with your small, non-removable battery and no SD card..
