Hi guys,
Tried to make a call the other morning, and now my microphone doesn't work. It's a 6502. When I try the service menu checks, the front mic doesn't respond, the secondary mic does. Finally, when I try to use something like Voice Search, it appears to not respond for a few seconds, then at the last moment it does (but can't recognize anything), sort of like the automatic gain control is ramping way up.
Hardware issue? Any possibility it's software before I go buy a new microphone section?
I did a total wipe and tried doomlord kernel, then loaded the eXistenZ ROM, no change.

Nobody knows whats the problem. Its with MOST of XPERIA ZL phones. i am facing the same issue. try unchecking noise suppression in call settings. works sometimes. suggest you take it to service center

I've tried that noise suppression fix but it didn't change anything.

I don't think mine's been in any contact with water and no I don't use any app that would abuse the mic like that. I've ordered a replacement mic section from eBay, I'll install that and see if it works. I found one example where the repair notes from sony indicated it was indeed a hardware problem.

But why u don't send your phone to Sony? It is under warranty.

I don't think Sony Canada is too likely to fix my European 6502 that I have no proof of purchase of. Am I wrong?

This has happened to me as well since Sunday. Nobody could hear me on a call. I was only heard a little when using the speaker, or using a headset. I've made a factory reset and disabled the noise reduction and now people can hear me but very very low ... ! Will try installing another rom or making a recovery trough PC Companion to see if it helps.
Ok guys, I replaced my microphone component with a part from eBay and it fixed the problem. Definitely a hardware issue in my case.

You should have sent the phone to Sony, it's still under warranty.

They would not fix it for free because it's in the wrong region. Mine is a C6502 which they don't support over here.

Did you make a video or something of the process ? May need to do the same. Mine seems to be working after a PC Companion repair, but very very low...

Hi, since two days, the external speaker, the one with which you listen to the music, he started to not work. Take to service. What rom are you using? If MIUI4 then this is normal, otherwise service only.

I'm using Sandvold's ICS for Desire Beta 0.15.0.1 with evervolv turba kernel.
So, I must fix this acting on hardware? Just to do one test, now i'll try to switch ROM, maybe a Gingerbread one.

Yep. I changed ROM, changed sound settings.. whatever I did it still don't work. I opened my phone, i gave two knock on the speaker.... and now it doesn't work at all .
Searching on the web, i found this: http://www.htcrepairparts.com/speaker-bigback-for-htc-desire-g7-p-3229.html and next week i'm going to try to replace with a new speaker by my own. I think is the only way ^^ (cannot take it to the service, warranty over).

The piece has just arrived at the post office. Tomorrow I'm going to retire, then I will see if I can replace it by myself, otherwise I will contact some friends

I've just replaced the speaker with the new one, but... nothing has changed.... the sound is exactly the same as before :|
I'm investigating further on the device right now, hoping to find something wrong around the speaker placement...

Nothing to do.... i check around the speaker, cleaned some parts.... but the sound remains the same. I'm going to download some app that can set maximum speaker output at about 80% (it seems that at this level the sound is pretty good).

Hello everybody,
my girlfriend have an a Sony xperia s and for awhile when she having a phone call
and put the phone against her ear the screen does not turning off the buttons are been pressed
by her cheek, this causes a lot of embarrassment when the call is disconnected in the middle of an important call,
most of the time the button just pressed and the other side just hearing an annoying tone.
this is annoying and i don't know how to help her with that.
is there any good solution for this problem?
i tried to look for this problem in the search engine of this forum
and all i found was the same problem but in HTC phone that runs Windows Mobile, that didn't helping me...

Try rebooting/resetting.
If problem persists then the proximity sensor may be faulty. Take it to Sony, coz it's a hardware problem.

Perhaps her phone is dirty, so the sensor won't work.. You know women, they don't care about technology.
Clean the screen left next to the Sony logo real good
My first opinion is hardware issue. It can be said that the proximity sensor is faulty. My second one is software. maybe she install a program that uses or control the proxomity switch that causes it to malfunction having a conflict with other programs. My third is that, as early as possible if its hardware issue, go now to sony service center for them to figure it out, use your warranty card, that may cause no additional problem right? Smile!
You could try re flash the firmware with flashtool

the phone is completely clean and safe, so most probably is it's something else.

i think that maybe it is an hardware issue,
she don't installing any application just by her self, and she don't have many apps.
i know almost every app on her phone (cause i have them also on my SGS4) and i don't think that the apps are the problem.
but i will look for an app problem anyway just to be sure before using the warranty.

UPDATE:
i've checked the phone sensor with the new app cpu-z and the app shows that the sensor is working and identifying my hand
when i covering it.
but still there is the problem that the screen does not turn off when she's holding the phone against her ear,
i've watched while she's talking in the phone and she's holding it as it should be.
but as i see the problem is not happening in every phone call but it is happening a lot.
any idea how to solve this problem?

when I call someone they can't hear me they said my voice very low or no voice .
but when I turn to speaker they can hear me!?!

edit: phone ship to Sony repair department and wait for like 20 days
they return to me without fixed and I called them sent it back to Sony again
and they said will send me new one in overnight on July 30 for replace but the funny thing
is until now I still waiting for my phone and I called 5 times already.every time said I ship it today you will get it tomorrow but never do

It's easy to relock the bootloader with Flastool, but unless you've done the proper TA Backup, you already lost forever the Bravia Engine and the DRM keys, so it's very easy for Sony to see that your bootloader has once been unlocked.
Maybe there's a chance to fix the call issue if (after relock the bootloader) you reflash the Stock ROM with full wipe option enabled... (remember to backup, of course).

Just call Sony today and ready to ship phone to Sony for repair. It is very strange

I sent my phone on July 10 and they said they will give me
replace new one but until now I still didn't get it
every time I call them they always said sorry always said will ship me

I had the same problem a few days ago and went to sony customer care. All they did was repair my software and gave back the phone in an hour. Everything was working fine and perfect. I was happy but then the very next day the first call and the problem started. I went to call settings and unchecked microphone suppression. And that solved the problem.

Yeah that's exactly what. We are speaking about. If other person can hear it I should yell. If noise suppression it's checked even that's not possible.

Hi, I recently Upgraded to kItkat & and now i notice that When i play a Video, sound is routed from Earpiece not from loudspeaker. When i restart & play the video again it is played on Loudspeaker. Same thing is also happening when i receive a Call. Ringtone is being played from earpiece not on the speaker, so its very hard to hear. Any Solution ??
I have the same problem. This is ridiculous for Sony. I have met this problem in youtube and Spotify as well.

Unfortunately z1 compact xda forum seems like a graveyard. Not a lot of active participations . It's better for somenone to look in Z and Z1 forums .
It happened to me once. Just as you said, i restarted the phone and it never happens again.

Until there is an update then there isn't a right lot you can do, sure it's frustrating but if you want a Phone that doesn't have issues, buy an iPhone or wait for an update.

hi to all,
i search everywhere and i flashed the phone around 15 times, just to see if its a rom problem.
i try all the cloudy'S stock rom but still the same.
so when i receive or i make a CALL i hear very well but the other person can't hear me,
to make it working i must activate the speaker option to communicate with the other person.
But as many people write here when we activate the speaker the second mic is activated but the lower mic is also in
good reception so maybe i must change something, somewhere???

Mine too... used to only be first call second would work... although now it is almost every call for me.
BTW, I have never had problems with bluetooth calls!
Although bluetooth works, it does not seem to be a hardware mic issue (like a dirty mic as some suggest), seems to be a codec bug. I'm pretty sure of it because I have call recording on my phone and my recorded voice (that no one can hear on my first call) is distorted like it is down converting my voice to only 4-12kbps.
I hope the ZVE update with HD voice will place a new codec in the phone dumping the buggy one.
Deciding to update to latest ZVE version to give it a try.... will try and let you know if it worked.
I've actually started having this problem as well, but I have never touched the software on the phone. Bone stock. I wonder if there is some systemic hardware issue with the mic.

Fyi I factory reset my phone and it seems to have fixed the mic. Heavy price to pay for a non-rooted phone but at least my phone works as a phone again.

Hi my friends, i have this problem too, i purchased it and tryed all, soft and hardware, i get change the flex complete and nothing, i really apreciatte if someone solved the problem and help me do it too.
