Sevice Reply on Dropped HOX with screen brightness problem - HTC One X

As some of you remember I dropped my HOX last week causing screen brightness problem.
I just got a reply from the service saying that the main board and battery has to be replaced(fortuntely they said this will not cost me anything as the phone is on warranty... )))) )
Do you think they are right considering that the phone appart from the screen brightness problem was working just fine?

Yes - not sure why you are even questioning it considering you are getting a virtually new phone out of it.

Just wondering because it doesnt seem very logic and it will take at least 2-3 weeks to fix as they have to order the main board.
Needless to say I am pretty happy with the service as they dont even try to charge me with anything.

They're unlikely to spend Warranty money doing unnecessary work, so just accept it.

You need to bear in mind, there are actually very few replaceable parts in these devices. There is the LCD, which tends to be basically one piece with everything sandwiched together (I know you can replace digitizers and surface glass separately, but the LCD unit comes as one pre-fab piece). There is the battery. And basically everything else is soldered to the mainboard.

Before one week they repleaced my HOX with new one. I have Black Screen of dead. They worked one month on the old phone and after 30 day they repleaced with new one and extend my warranty with 60 days. I am so happy naw with my new HOX. And this with stock rom and relocked bootloader. They did't say nothing for the relocked bootloader

Better be lucky to get a new battery on an old device.
I wish mine would have a new battery and not it's old, worn out one

My battery was worn out too so I cant say I am unhappy that I will be getting a new one and a new main board too.I do get that this is like getting a new phone but the wait to get it on my hands again is killing me.They said it will take max 3 weeks and that I might also get it next week.I do believe them...

One more thing to
add is that all this is cost free and the screen was replaced on May again cost free although I had ruined it spilling alocohol on it.All in all only the cover will be left from the device I purchased last November. One question though I asked for the cover to be replaced with the white one accepting the cost but they declined....Why is that you think?

Can't decide whether or not I should get a replacement

I bought my Nexus from Best Buy on Saturday... I love the phone, but it overheats really bad...I know people have been complaining about there's overheating but a Verizon rep told me that mine shouldn't get as hot as it does because it will swell... 2nd reason for taking it back is I have really bad signal.. and apparently verizon is now saying its imaginary... but again the rep told me she hadn't heard about anything that I have been reading on the internet and it was the second time I called and they tried the same thing twice to improve it...but it didn't work either time, so they think it is a faulty radio
Here is why I can't decide to take it back...I haven't dropped it at all but I am some how cursed by a few barely noticeable scratches and one noticeable one and I don't want Samsung to charge me full price for the phone.
I had to return my droid incredible 1 when I had it, and it had damage and they told me if HTC says anything they will have to charge full price.they never did, I was sent a replacement with no problem. However, that was HTC... this is Samsung and I don't know anything about them.
So what do you guys think?...will I have a problem returning it?

Unless you really beat the crap out of the phone, I'd be shocked if Best Buy gave you any problems.
You're still within the first 14 days so Verizon/Best Buy should replace your phone with a new one on the spot.
Get a battery temp measuring app, I use minimalistic widget so I don't know what app can, then see what it's at.
I think the thinness of the device lends itself to a more prominent temperature change - even though it's nothing different on other devices.
When my GN feels hot, it's around 42C, which is about what my previous phones reach.
I took it back with no problem...and my new phone seems to get a tad bit better signal...its not as spazmatic as my other one...my old one would fade in and out really badly...this one does, but it takes a little while for it to do it.
Also on my new one, for some reason the screen seems better...it seems to get better whites than my old one

Just cracked screen need HELP !

Ok so the one time i didn't put my phone in it's case typical lmao....
but there's what happened,
phone is fully functional, i'm guessing this is just the outer screen?
What do i do?
And how much should a phone repair shop be charging me?
It got closed on a car door, in mid-air
ouch that's awful!!!
the digitizer is busted.. but to make sure can you still turn your phone on? if yes, check the display if there are discolorations or break in image, and if none, then you're lucky the only thing busted is the digitizer..
OEM digitizer costs roughly above a 100 USD thru authorized SE service centers, in my experience, that is, when my digitizer suddenly cannot interpret touch input overnight..
PS, my Play's warranty was in HK, and I live in the philippines, so I had no choice but to pay for the replacement parts and labor..
oh yes it still turns on the touchscreen works 100% , everything works 100% , buttons, touch screen, volume , camera, sd card, sim services, internet, bluetooth lol and gamepad, also the phones not even a year old yet, if i brought it to 02 could they fix it for free lmao? I have no idea about this stuff, never broke a phone before
that'll depend on your warranty agreement from where you bought it.. and from the look of it, since it's less than a year old, i think you can take advantage of the warranty and pay for nothing..
as for me, my phone was still under warranty when its slider flex broke, but like i said i had no choice since i bought it in HK and I live in the PH..

You say everything works 100% now just wait, in a couple of months your screen will respond erratically and then not at all. I am going through the same thing. Also good luck getting a busted screen replaced through warranty, if you bought insurance then yeah your fine but phone warranty only covers defects not accidents, i.e. they won't replace your phone because you dropped it and the screen busted.

OP, if everything is working correctly just buy a new screen off Ebay as suggested. It should be straight forward enough to change.

Will it get worse? Screen Flex Issue

I got my One X over a month ago and all was good. My nephew dropped the phone last week and the phone screen got scratched quite a bit and the phone started playing up. WiFi kept dropping, software freezing. So since I still had insurance with my network I ordered a replacement. I received the replacement yesterday and when I pressed down the the sides of the phone I could see ripples all the way to the top of the screen. I called up and got a replacement for the replacement and it arrived today. Phone was completely drained in battery :S but I let it charge and then tested out the screen. Flex is still there but slightly less. This one is much more usable the the other but I was wondering, will it get worse? Do not remember this problem on my old one. Is it worth getting another replacement or should I stick with it?
Thank you
(1st was HT24, 2nd was SH24, 3rd is HT24)
And now I found a bright white pixel on the screen :crying: I'm seriously considering asking for another, but I'm dreading how bad that one will be.
I do also have a flex on my HOX. I own it already for 3 month. But it doesn't get worse. I think you should not worry about it.
I have no screen flex unroll I push really hard on ny screen and even then its only where I've pressed doesn't spread across the screen.
I would ask for a replacement but that's just me I take things back for the smallest of issues

See the thing is that the new one I received today shows the flex when I push on the side of the screen but but doesn't spread as much as the 2nd one. Seems to be fine with normal use. I'm just hoping it doesn't get worse as the screen is used more. I have 14 days to get this replacement replaced again so I will let you know how I get on.
Any more views would help!
Thank you

It doesn't affect it. You won't notice it with day to day use either as you won't be pushing that hard.

Quality of certified like new replacement from VZW?

Hey all,
Having some charging issue with my device that will likely necessitate a replacement device. I've been hesitant to make the move given the quality issues of CLNR with Verizon in the early months of the GNex existence.
For those who have recently received replacements, did you encounter much problem? It seemed like the issues were mainly related to the screen or reception issues. I had my Gnex since day 1 and never had any dropped calls or weak/fluctuating 4G signal. I'm hesitant to give it up!!
Thanks in advance!
I just got a replacement 2 weeks ago and mine has been great. No issues at all. But every device is different
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Its probably the charger cable, battery the USB port is broke. I suffered similar issues with a CLN HTC incredible. Try switching batteries cables or adapters. If all else fails take it back
I had similar issues with my original galaxy nexus after owning it for 8 months. The replacement they shipped me the ear piece on it didn't work. Sent that one back and the one after it I've had for almost 4 months now with no problems. A lot of it is just random bad luck, if I was you I'd send the old one in and hopefully your luck will hold up.

It might be a good time for a refurb, considering VZW just retired the phone.. Is it possible the remaining Gnex stock was pulled for refurbs?
About two weeks ago I got mine replaced by verizon due to my phone having charging issues as well. I went into the store, didn't call before hand.
I had flashed back to stock before i went in. Told the girl there that it wasnt charging right and i have multiple batteries and they all do the same. she went to look up on some database if others were reporting similar issues (there were none). after giving her my phone number and 5 minutes later she said a replacement is on the way and to mail my old one back in the same box (shipping was paid for)
I was very pleased by how quick and painless it all was. She never touched or looked at my phone at all and asked hardly any questions. my phone also had a chip in the screen (about 2 cm at the bottom right, no cracks though)
the replacement phone had a sticker saying "like new" replacement but it was absolutely pristine. absolutely 100% perfect cosmetically and works great as ever (screen colors seemed better than my original one imo).
Thanks for the heads up. Went ahead with the replacement. Will wait and see.

Just realiezd there's a scratch on the screen of the device I'm sending back... Any advice on what to do? I don't wanna get burn... I heard that VZW can charge an arm and a leg for returns that have damage...

Nothing to worry about. Mine also had a chip in the bottom right corner (about 1/4 in long and 1/8 in high) as well as light scratches near the top of the screen. Luckily the chip did not develop a crack, but none-the-less, the lady at the VZW store didnt say anything of it even when i pointed it out, and my return was accepted with no charges incurred.

Any battery replacement service?

My HTC 10 is going to be 2 years old. And probably see a degradation soon on battery performance. Since Apple has nation-wide local stores to offer $29 battery replacement to iPhones, I am wondering is there any certified battery replacement for HTC? I know BestBuy is doing battery replacement for Samsung phones, but you know HTC is NOT so mainstream as Samsung, is there any place I can have HTC 10 battery replaced? I am pretty sure HTC official support is going to be expensive on this.... wouldn't consider them anyway.
The DIY video kinda scares me away, as I tried to open a few phones several years ago, and there were dirts leaked into screen after I assembled the phone back. So if DIY is my last resort, I wouldn't bother replacing the battery... May consider buying a iPhone or Samsung due to their minimum maintenance efforts.

Com'on.. Not in that country.. If shipping to Slovakia is the only way, I'd risk dissembling the phone by myself.

Not sure where you are located, but you might give these guys a try:

I realize the HTC 10 isn't listed but it might be worth contacting them and see if they can help you with your issue.

tried to help... this is what you get when you ask for a repair service and exlude any information about your location... ?
OP:
- Contact the closest HTC you find, maybe you have to ship it to another country, but that is the easiest it will get.
- DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. I bought an OEM battery for my M7 from a "trusted seller". It's a big shop, and really, people trust them. Took me 2 days to disassemble the phone (obviously with breaks and work and all), it's extremely tedious and cumbersome. Then I put it together, but no charge. Turns out, the new battery was defective out of the box. Also, the repair process is so destructive, I do not think you can take the phone apart 2-3 times. Maybe once, twice if you are extremely careful. But it is almost beyond human - to be so careful and cautious. You have to look out for so many small cables, ribbons. Point is, if HTC messes up, they fix it / give you a new phone, whatever. If you mess up, bye-bye phone.
I called a local UBreakIFix shop, and they said that, since the screen must be removed and it's so thin, to replace the battery on the HTC 10, they would have to charge me for replacing the screen plus battery. About $130 for parts and labor.

Because they're a business, they're all about doing jobs quickly. The longer it takes, the more it costs them to complete it. As such, they can't be bothered with educating themselves on how to do the HTC 10 properly. There is a technique and it takes time. If it wasn't possible, nobody would be doing it with any reported success. The main thing is heating up the phone enough to soften the adhesive, and being gentle enough not to disturb the ribbon cable for the screen.
HTC really boned it on the HTC 10. If there was no battery issue, it would be a strong competitor for the Google Pixel. But they cut corners to keep manufacturing costs low, and sacrificed serviceablility. Coupling that with the common battery problem, they're left with frustrated customers who are destined to abandon the brand. It's a real shame because without the battery issue, the HTC 10 is pretty much about as good as the Google Pixel. I showed mine to a friend with the Pixel and we did a compare. Aside from the Pixel being a little lighter, the screen intensity of the HTC 10 was better and the case feels more solid.
yea HTC won't work on the 10 anymore.. EOL (in USA anyway) and UK won't take it
anyone willing to change my battery?
I will pay, PM me please.
on eBay, you can find brand new HTC 10 for about $110 and brand new HTC U11 for about $170. If your cost of repair is around $100, it would make more sense to purchase a brand new HTC 10 or a brand new HTC U11.

I agree. I do..
htc u11 doesnt work fully on verizon AFAIK, and I love the 10 anyway.
but for the new htc 10, my issue is that with ebay, some wont take returns, and lithium batteries degrade. new doesn't mean you're getting a new battery.
un-used, yes if new.
but if no returns, and it only has like 70% capacity, I'm where I am now and then stuck with 2 10s
but yes the ONLY place i could find was:
www.ubreakifix.com
they quoted me at $99 for the battery repair, and it includes:
new battery
new screen (if they break it)
new whatever if they break it
(meaning they cover everything for the $99)
and 90 day warranty
soooo. idk
theres literally like no phone im interested in.
and here in the us, at least what ive found is no one will touch it because they can't guarntee the screen not breaking, and once that happens, as you said, gets higher than phone is "worth"

I see that makes some sense. I am not familiar with the battery degradation of phones that haven't been used in 3 years, but it does sound like a brand new battery would be a good way to go to get maximum battery life. I also wish there was an easy way to replace the battery so that I wouldn't have to go through the route of looking for a new phone. I'm currently planning to get a new HTC U11 from eBay, but was certainly considering another HTC 10 before I discovered how cheap the U11 is from certain sellers.

Another thing I forgot about was root, duh lol.
Unlocked model can unlock bootloader, but I'm not sure about s-off app is still available for it. I'd pay the $25 no problem, but would need to refresh myself ifits an option.
I know there's Java cards and xtc clip but that's another investment really, would maybe need to fund someone that already has one
