[Q] Moving app data from DNA to One without root? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Normally when I get a new phone I root it and copy over the TB folder and restore my apps. I have some games and a podcast app and I like to keep the progress(in the games) and my podcasts I have downloaded. Since there isn't root yet on the One, is there any way without root to transfer this info?

This guide is a tad bit dated but the methods still function.
http://lifehacker.com/5843206/how-to-upgrade-to-a-new-android-phone-and-take-everything-with-you
In addition I think Avast just released a back up app that ties into the Avast security platform that should also work however I haven't tried it out yet.
Almost forgot the new kid on the block Helium, its from the developer of ROM manger and does not require root. I have heard great things about it but haven't need it yet.

Helium Backup by Koushik Dutta (Koush of CWM fame) works on non rooted devices. It cannot allays restore the application itself (paid apps for example that block the restoration) - but once the app is downloaded from the PlayStore you should be able to restore data. I believe that the paid version even syncs data between devices.

+1 for phone problems. In the last couple of months I went from Gnex, Galaxy Note2, GS4, to the One. Now I am considering Dev Edition MotoX.

I might look into Helium and get away from Titanium if the phone doesn't have root.
I also have that phone problem, went from Gnex->S3->Note 2->Maxx HD->S3->DNA-> maybe One. In all the other cases there was a root out when I got the phone (even the Maxx HD, had root, BL unlock came later) so I could just move the TB folder around.

haha, i wish. I'm on a 5+ line family plan, but everyone wants their upgrade for their next iPhones. I went Gnex->DNA->S4->One and now probably Moto X since I'm having 4g issues on the one in my area
I'm really sad because I love the camera features of Sense 5 (ie. the highlight video it makes of each day's photos). Anybody know of a 3rd party alternative that makes cool video mock-ups like that?

Bought the Gnex full retail. All the others have been Swappa. With the One I might go back to full retail. Thier 12 month payment plan isn't too bad. I just have a family plan with 1 extra line for the wife. Thought about getting another line to do a dumbphone swap, but I don't have a dumb phone and seems like a hassle to deal with.

Does Lookout actually do anything other than virus protection?

I've been using Lookout for a while now, to my general satisfaction, but I tested the "Missing Device" feature the other day, and... it failed miserably.
The device was on, sitting next to me, connected to WiFi. I logged onto their website with a desktop machine, signed in, and asked it to find my device. It scanned for a while, but then said something along the lines of "Sorry, we couldn't find your device. Can you try again a little later?" Now this is an ideal situation, in real life scenario I would probably lose it somewhere where there is no WiFi. I don't have a data plan, so I don't know how the tracking would ever be able to find the device, unless it can work via GPS somehow.
So... if none of that bonus stuff works, can I turn it all off? Just use the virus scanner, which seems to have worked fine so far.
Take that app off your phone, upon boot it will drain your battery like hell, opt you in for a many anonymous statistics. Download latest CyanogenMod 10.2.2 + later nightlies are fine.

Why not avast? It's free and it has a firewall, etc.
I am personally not a fan of anti virus for Android. Never found real need for it. Maybe it's just me. I just use Cerberus for "find my phone" feature just in case.

It's an 'anti-theft' app, but the bastards had gone greedy and made nearly all the free features as paid. I'd recommend 'Cerberus' light and powerful anti-theft app and feature packed, if only it got more recognition.

I bet by the end of this week. Root will be easy, bootloader will not be broken though. I just want my Titanium Backup and Root Explorer so root is all need.
I called a few att stores in my area and each of them said they have them in stock, but cannot sell them... How'd you pull this off?

You'll never have CM11 on it. Never. But you can use exposed and do other mods. Just no ROMS.

I was surprised when it happened because samsung phones were always so open. Nexus 6 looks good but it's just a big phone with no feature that I know of at least to take advantage if that screen. At least they finally went above 32gb now. But I don't think I'll ever buy an AT&T phone ever again.
I did the same. Walked into an AT&T near me during lunch and got a white Note 4. I wasn't expecting to be able to get one but they are selling them here in Milwaukee.
Much like some of you here, I don't need anything more than root to run titanium and a couple other things. I never understood the idea of getting a note device to throw an AOSP rom on it that negates the S Pen functionality and other Note qualities. Why not just get any other big phone?

Why do you say that? Root and bootloader are two completely different things.
Root should be easy and we should get it. Custom recovery on the other hand, probably not.
I'm in Pa and just called my local store, they have them in as well and the guy said I can come get one now. I'M on my way to pick up note 4 also. I'm with u guys just want root for titanium backup and xposed , I really don't flash roms to often anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these custom ROMS don't support the S Pen. If that is true, what use is the ROMS if you can't use the S Pen. That is one major point of the whole note.

The S Pen was never a real selling point for me. HTCs have bad cameras, LGs have have horrible reliability from mine/my buddies experience with the G2 and the Note is still the spec king. I could definitely get behind a Nexus though.

Which store did you go to? I tried at the Greenfield store on 76th and Layton but they said they will start selling it on the 17th.
I don't mind touchwiz myself and if you haven't played with a note 4 in store you might be pretty happy with touchwiz this time around, its snappy and actually doesn't look nearly as bad as it used to. Can just install nova or google now launcher if it is that bothersome though from a UI perspective. Setting wise I think Samsung offers more a better features than aosp.

I got the Note 4 in Pasadena, they had 5 white and 2 black. They are technically not suppose to sell them until Friday, but all the corp stores got them. It took a bit of effort to get them to admit they had them, and I pulled the corporate partner card on them so they went ahead with it.
Now what sucks is I can't transfer any of my data with titanium backup, I am wondering when root will be available.
I also agree with others here, if you don't need or care for the S-Pen the Nexus 6 is probably the device you want...
So who will be first to release a root?
Hopefully we can get root for now... Maybe we should check out the G3 forum as they got root with the bootloader locked...

Chainfire comments on root and future Android

Chainfire posted a long writeup of what the future holds for root on Android phones including Lollipop. It's an interesting read.
"As stated above, it seems for now that modifications to the kernel package are required to have root, we cannot attain it with only modifications to the system partition.
Combine that with a locked bootloader (and optionally dm-verity) and a device becomes nigh unrootable - exactly as intended by the security guys.
Exploit-based roots are already harder to do thanks to SELinux, and now because of the kernel requirements for persistent root, these exploits will need to be run at every boot. Exploits that make the system unstable (as many do) are thus out as well.
It is now thus more important than ever to buy unlocked devices if you want root."
Edit: Tikerz beat me to it. His post is here. Mods delete if you want.
No real surprise to me. It was only a matter of time before it got locked down to the point of no easy exploit. I'm surprised it took this long, actually.

man locking bootloaders is one thing.. but root??!?
its not even a poormans route anymore to get a carrier phone over a factory one, you need to choose between functionality or reception..
i wonder if Xposed is responsible for crazy bootloader security moving over to root.

The lack of root in the foreseeable future really ruined my excitement for this phone I have gotten so used to all the nice features of root (in addition to custom ROMs) like Ti Backup, AdAway, customization, etc. that I do not want to fork out the money for a phone that doesn't feel truly mine.
That said, I'm confident the devs will find a solution. Just like every iPhone has been jailbroken there will be root for the Note 4!
There is a root for the note 4.....just not ours ...as intended...if we want root we bought the wrong device...I got it the day before it came out in the mail and was excited I wasn't aware that it was going to be so neglected...I was at least hoping for a safestrap like the note 3 I had that I don't anymore because it shattered and they gave me this as a replacement...now I can't get root...way too sleezy...they got me!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
I certainly don't see it as 'sleezy', as the devices were always known to be locked. It isnt like AT&T were endorsing root or safe strap in the first place... Or secretly locked it at the last minute without telling anyone.
But opinions on morality aside, it is disappointing that root may take a while. Though I'm still optimistic that it will happen eventually.

Yeah, if you can afford it, for the rest of us though, it sounds like we'll be out of luck.
Maybe we need to start looking at hardware hacks, like when chipping a console?
Maybe an insecure boot.img can root this phone.
Focus on the boot loader. If it gets unlocked we will be fine with root.

nice having posts like this just right up front.... I come to xda for the modding and mainly rooting of my phones.... att releases a totally locked down note 4 and already people are speaking out about its probably not going to get an unlock like the s5... I give up all hope of seeing a subsidized note 4 and start waiting on a nexus 6 to see if the bootloader is still unlockable.
So within 3 posts and less than 15 minutes I learned abandon the att n4... quick and easy... ty xda :highfive:

Dual window picking up other apps.

OK any LG g4 owner knows how much it sucks to have such an awesome feature as dual window just to be chained down to a few boring stock apps. Well if you're able to root then no problem just use the g3 dual window mod or change the build prop line yourself. But if you're like me and have no way to get root access atm then you are very frustrated like me. Then I noticed several icon packs showing up in the dual window list and function as good as stock, but... They are icon packs.. WTF is that all about?! Almost pisses me off more after the utter hell this phone has been even after replacing it a week after I got it cuz of course the screen which still randomly screws with me. If anyone has seen this and can possibly find a way to replicate this for other apps without root mods it would make slot of pissed g4 owners feel better.

Lol I know that, that's not what I'm saying, I just wanna know how/why those couple apps (materialstik, kaip, belle Ui, Marshmallow, crystal round&square, and Tigad) icon packs, all of them are in my dual window list. What about Viper audio? Is that possible without root? I just ordered a S8+ the unlocked version and am a bit concerned not seeing much on root. I see there are bounties out there for it and a lot of work being done towards root and possible BL unlocking, but who knows when it will come available. I did the incredible trade deal, hard to pass up, trading in a old note 3. But I need tethering out of the box, want Viper audio and use TiBu all the time. This needs to get rooted ASAP! I will keep my rooted Moto X Pure just ordered a Note 4 to play with. There is no phone that great for me to use unrooted...
It sucks to not have root. Haven't had root since my Dev edition Note 4. Have had root on every phone previous since my original HTC Incredible smartphone way back when.
I do miss Titanium backup. And Ad Away. Those two things are by far the two that I miss the most. Helium worked well enough on my Note 7 and S7 Edge once I migrated to that from the banned Note & (that I held on to until the very last I could - into February). But Helium does NOT work worth a crap on the S8+. Quite a few apps would not migrate at all with any data, so I lost data on some apps. I found work arounds for most of them, but not all of them. And I use Adhell, but it's not nearly as good as Ad Away. But again, it's not a real big deal overall. Would love root but not expecting it to happen.
Totally agree with you guys!!!! Regret trading in my ROOTED s7 to get the s8+, Now if that's not a ****ing tool of a move I don't kno what is!!!!
I miss adaway, EXTREMELY BAD, I miss patched YouTube apps "no ads" & I ESPICIALLY, prob most of all over adaway I miss Arise
