I've been using Lookout for a while now, to my general satisfaction, but I tested the "Missing Device" feature the other day, and... it failed miserably.
The device was on, sitting next to me, connected to WiFi. I logged onto their website with a desktop machine, signed in, and asked it to find my device. It scanned for a while, but then said something along the lines of "Sorry, we couldn't find your device. Can you try again a little later?" Now this is an ideal situation, in real life scenario I would probably lose it somewhere where there is no WiFi. I don't have a data plan, so I don't know how the tracking would ever be able to find the device, unless it can work via GPS somehow.
So... if none of that bonus stuff works, can I turn it all off? Just use the virus scanner, which seems to have worked fine so far.
Take that app off your phone, upon boot it will drain your battery like hell, opt you in for a many anonymous statistics. Download latest CyanogenMod 10.2.2 + later nightlies are fine.

I recommend Cerberus for tracking and security. Excellent app. SeekDroid is good as well.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Is the Pro version worth the cost? It's on sale for ~11$ at the moment.

Why not avast? It's free and it has a firewall, etc.
I am personally not a fan of anti virus for Android. Never found real need for it. Maybe it's just me. I just use Cerberus for "find my phone" feature just in case.

Nope, its too high..free version is okay
It's an 'anti-theft' app, but the bastards had gone greedy and made nearly all the free features as paid. I'd recommend 'Cerberus' light and powerful anti-theft app and feature packed, if only it got more recognition.
^^^ definitely Cerberus is a must app!!

Lookout mobile security. Free from the market and seems to work well. I've used it for months and it doesn't impact on the phones performance either.
Posted telepathically. Oh yes.
already had a small discussion here last week or so you should have a read first, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978241
I think you will not really need a Anti virus, the chance you will get a virus is really small, unless you are downloading everything from the internet and installing it on your phone.
im not downloading anything but nothing will happened if i will be a little cautious
Just use common sense and don't install applications with a lot of permissions and you should be safe.
Look also who is developing and if you're not sure just google.

I wanted to buy Roam Control, but google pulled it from the market
I went to the Roam Control Website, and dl'ed the apk from the link the Dev provided, but it prompted for a license, and when I selected the "buy" option, it reported app not found, and I was unable to buy it
Any ideas on how to get this app bought and working?
Dev's note from website:
NOTE (11/29/2011): I received an email today from Google indicating that Roam Control was removed/suspended from the market. I did not receive any explanation, other than it was "due to a violation of the Developer Content Policy." I'm working on getting the app restored, however I've come to understand that Google is incredibly unresponsive in these situations. If I cannot reinstate the app, I will certainly make it available in some other fashion. To those who have already purchased the app, I certainly do not expect anyone to pay for it a second time. As a temporary measure, the latest version of the app can be downloaded here.

I put two new versions of Roam Control in the market...one free version that will work for users that previously purchased, and one new paid version. See here for details:

Very cool, thank you for this. I have to use this when I'm at the in-laws place or I'm hosed. Any chance there is anything new in the city of Chicago? I haven't tried this lately, but I frequent a place near O'Hare and Sprint doesn't get good reception inside the building. I would LOVE to be able to roam on VZW while here, but I know there was a note before that we can't roam in Chicago.

You sir, have made my day!!! Looking forward to any news you can provide.
And roam control is gone again??
http://sites.google.com/site/roamcontrol/
The developer says it got pulled again and that he's looking into alternative distribution methods. He has the .apks up for people who bought it in the market now.
At this point I would paypal him $5 for the app and license!!

Looking for the legit version. Bookmarking this page in hopes that someone or the dev comes up with a solution soon! Have my 11115 prl but it feels worthless without roam control...
I would share mine as I never use it... but its a paid app and that is frowned upon here... me and my wife both use the same apk though.. I bluetoothed the apk to her phone and it works fine for both of us...

I would like to have something working for now since it is not available for purchase at this point. I am really hurting without it. When im at work my signal is very bad to the point that i miss phone calls and texts come late. I could force roam and be able to have my signal back... If the dev does not want the app distributed at this point (while its not on the market) i guess i will have to respect that. It is his work afterall. I am hoping the dev can straighten this out soon or give us an answer. I am in great need of it.
You can download from the post above my last post and when the dev figures out when and where you can uninstall and buy the paid app. That's what I'm doing.

Thank you for the response. I read somewhere that the apps on there sometimes have undesired things packed into them (ie viruses, malware)... Do you have to download the applanet app to download from there? When i tried to view the site, it kept trying to download an applanet.apk... Seems fishy to me...
Normally when I get a new phone I root it and copy over the TB folder and restore my apps. I have some games and a podcast app and I like to keep the progress(in the games) and my podcasts I have downloaded. Since there isn't root yet on the One, is there any way without root to transfer this info?
This guide is a tad bit dated but the methods still function.

In addition I think Avast just released a back up app that ties into the Avast security platform that should also work however I haven't tried it out yet.
Almost forgot the new kid on the block Helium, its from the developer of ROM manger and does not require root. I have heard great things about it but haven't need it yet.

Helium Backup by Koushik Dutta (Koush of CWM fame) works on non rooted devices. It cannot allays restore the application itself (paid apps for example that block the restoration) - but once the app is downloaded from the PlayStore you should be able to restore data. I believe that the paid version even syncs data between devices.

I might look into Helium and get away from Titanium if the phone doesn't have root.
I also have that phone problem, went from Gnex->S3->Note 2->Maxx HD->S3->DNA-> maybe One. In all the other cases there was a root out when I got the phone (even the Maxx HD, had root, BL unlock came later) so I could just move the TB folder around.

I'm really sad because I love the camera features of Sense 5 (ie. the highlight video it makes of each day's photos). Anybody know of a 3rd party alternative that makes cool video mock-ups like that?

Bought the Gnex full retail. All the others have been Swappa. With the One I might go back to full retail. Thier 12 month payment plan isn't too bad. I just have a family plan with 1 extra line for the wife. Thought about getting another line to do a dumbphone swap, but I don't have a dumb phone and seems like a hassle to deal with.

There was Boot Manager in the play store but it hasn't been updated since April of 2012. Says they've started working on a update (November 7th) don't know if its last year or this year though.
There has not yet been a kernel and recovery made for our variant to do this.
When/if this does happen, I don't advise using it as a test bed for Roms to be quite honest.
It may have a select number of Rom combinations it would even work with.
Definitely isn't gonna just work with them all in a 100% reliable nature, as the Rom would under normal installation.
But I do see this becoming a possibility in the not too far off future.
As for Boot Manager.....great concept, but I'd rather have my 15 bucks back.

Ohh I didn't realize that a feature like that could be handled through an app, I assumed it would need lower level development outside the operating system. but I'm still new to this

Both apps are far from perfect. But even though I know Sense TV uses Peel technology, I prefer the layout and functionality of Sense TV over the Peel app.
In any case, its good for folks to have choices. I'll be sad to see Sense TV go.
I saw this on Android Central earlier: http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-shutting-down-sense-tv-app-moving-users-over-peel. IMHO, I found the Peel app to be useless to me. The transfer of my remote information must not have worked, as none of my remotes work. I've got a message in to Peet to see if they know of a fix.
I just got an update for the TV app (that I never use) today. Doubt it is discontinued. Perhaps regionally?

I got that update as well. That's what directed me to the Peel app. I still have them both available, but I by the end of April HTC plans to discontinue support. Maybe the app will continue to be available, but with no support. I think I'd almost take that as opposed to the Peel app.
I prefer HTC Sense TV, so I really hope I can continue to use the app even though HTC is switching over to Peel. Plus I decided to uninstall the app through Titanium Backup and do not feel like re-flashing the ROM just for a remote app. ?
