Well, it was bound to happen eventually.... I have a bad phone it seems. A long story short is the wifi radio is kicking out my carrier signal, I have a yellow burn in on the bottom left hand corner of my screen... and my headphone jack is a HUGE hassle, to get it to acknowledge any headphones... it takes me anywhere from 20 seconds to 3 minutes to get it to work.... I did all the normal stuff, but I am certain most of it is hardware related.
Has anyone dealt with this before? I am sure I am in for a world of inconvenience.... however, I am not sure where I start (handtec, HTC UK, etc).... the phone is less then a month old, ordered April 22. I spoke with HTC in the US and they said I could send it there for repair... but I would be paying the shipping to there, dealing with border delays and awaiting repair.... (which might be better then shipping to the UK).... but I have never dealt with this before, so before I do anything... I thought I would check around and see what my best options are. I live in Canada and I ordered it from handtec UK.
Thanks in advance
My 2nd One X (bought in Australia, Optus handset) has no faults at all (fingers crossed).

Well, bad luck but it is a faulty unit it seems. Why don't you contact the guys where you bought it from and ask for a return?I guess they can replace your phone with a new one and it's much more simpler (and cheaper) than to wait that much to send it to US,get it repaired, pay the shippment..etc.
I did open a support ticket at handtec, but being a weekend.... I expect to wait until monday!
thx

Well i think this are the only solutions you have...even talk to handtec to give you a replacement,or you can talk to HTC,maybe they give you a replacement instead of repairing this one?I mean,i don't know how HTC does it but when i had a Nokia i send it to Finland and in a week they've send me a brand new one.
did handtec respond to you?

so the weird part of it all, my beats headphones work perfectly in other devices, each and every time.... however, if I use my apple headphones in the htc one x, it works each and every time.... makes no sense at all, it is like the design of the headphones and phone do not line up or something?!
Oh well, I also have to ship it to them, wait for them to repair and send it back.... but I still think this will be faster then dealing with the us/border delays. Anytime handtec ships me a phone, I get it in 2 days.
Does anyone know where I could get an original replacement back cover for my white galaxy s3? For some unknown reason My S3 has a black dot on the upper back side. It is very small, about a mm wide but it still nags me... As you can see from the attachment, the dot is underneath the hyperglaze layer as any amount of cleaning doesnt get rid of it...
Does anyone know what i could do?
If it's manufacturing defect you can get it replaced under warranty.
I have the same problem, same place as yours just opposite end. Already had 1 S3 replaced under warranty due to SIM card slot being faulty, not keen to try my luck with this.

I've sent an email to the customer services asking for a replacement, hopefully it will go through. I am not willing to send my phone to them, especially since this is faulty on a removable part of the phone...

I think this is unacceptable... The cover is part of the product, and when the product finish is not sufficient I am entitled to a replacement. I mean that was basically what the whole blue galaxy s3 delay was all about... another thing is the sites that they provided me do not have any sort of original back cover for sale..

I'd would definitely push for replacement if it is a manufacturing defect...if you are in the UK quote the sale of goods act and fit for the purpose etc .. Quick google wil give you the full terms .... State trading standards if they don except the above

Yeah, that is pretty unacceptable and one thing they need to change if they ever want to be Apple. They need to let their employees do what they want to please the customer.
After reading that again, it might be just a communication problem. Sounds like this person thinks that you are just asking for a spare cover when nothing is wrong with your old one.
You might have make sure they are aware that your cover is defective or they probably have the right to request that you send the defective cover in. Either way, keep *****ing and I am sure they will cave.
"Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.
In response to your query, please be advised that if the back of the handset came with any markings then you would need to contact the original retailer of purchase regarding this issue. The retailer would warranty the device for the intial 28 days of ownership. If it was sold to you in poor condition then they would be able to exchange the handset.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.

Your warranty is with the retailer. Besides the warranty, you have a right to reject the goods for a short time after purchase if there is any defect.
A lot of people think the manufacturer is responsible for warranty, this is *not* true unless you bought directly from the manufacturer. Samsung will dictate the terms of the warranty and may or may not provide the warranty service to or on behalf of the retailer. The legal responsibility is always with the retailer.
Did you buy it from a market stall or something?

If the cover is in good condition when the product is purchased then anything that "happens" to it would not be covered under warranty, as any "happenings" would be (accidental) damage. The only exception is if the cover had a pre-existing fault which was not obvious at the time of purchase; imagine trying to prove that!
You aren't dealing with a warranty issue, rather product quality and fitness for purpose. You need to reject the product, not claim under warranty. These are entirely separate issues!

So it would be just best to go in-store and return the phone and get a new one? I bought it from the Tesco phone shop. I am just worried that they will dismiss it saying it is not a significant issue... What arguments can I put forward?
The fault was always there from the beginning, It started to bug me lately and seeing how it costs £20 for a genuine replacement I am appalled..

Personally it wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't return it, however...
It's a £500 item which you would expect to be aesthetically perfect, there should be no issue returning the phone for a swap if it's done at the earliest opportunity. Rejecting goods in the UK does not have a legally defined time-scale, the law states that you have a "reasonable time" reject them; the time-scale varies depending on the nature of the product.

Unfortunately, they are technically right though. Particularly in regards to the Sale of Goods act. The contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. I'm quite surprised they haven't just replaced the cover as it must cost virtually nothing, but they are within their rights to refuse if it's not covered by the warranty. The retailer should replace it though.
ebay
I picked one up from ebay, worked perfect.
This thread will hopefully help anyone expecting a replacement Note 7 and distinguish the facts vs wild media 'grab articles'. Below are some gathered facts regarding replacements so far, including shared replacement experiences worldwide. Please add in your experience and any new facts.
The announcements by the media so far: (feel free to add in or correct this information in the thread, I will update anything that is confirmed)
• Samsung will block your devices from 30th September - (Unconfirmed)
• Samsung will force an OTA through carriers limiting your Note 7 to 60% charge - (Unconfirmed)
• Samsung is issuing refurbished devices - (False)
• Samsung have issued handsets only as a replacement without a box indicating a refurbished unit - (False)
• Samsung is indicating refurbished Note 7 devices (refurbished being recalled stock that is overhauled and reissued as the '2nd batch') via an 'RF' designation in front of the serial number - (False)
• Samsung have a black/blue Square on the replacement device boxes - (True)
• Samsung will have a blue 'S' on the boxes of new batch Note 7 devices - (Unconfirmed)
• Samsung will show a green battery icon via firmware on the new Note 7 batch - (True)
****What has been confirmed?****:
• The new devices have a black/blue square on the box
• Currently affected devices (at least in South Korea) will receive an OTA update to limit the charge capacity to 60% (Samsung have run newspaper ads)
• The serial number can start with 'RF', however, it is not indicative of a refurbished unit, Some of those who ordered directly from Samsung and received the very first units from the original batch had 'RF' beginning serial numbers. It doesn't indicate a refurbished device.
• From Tuesday 20/09/2016, affected devices in the UK will also receive a software update that limits the battery charge to 60% of its full capacity.
• Replacement batteries, some are still SDI, shown via the "batt_type" identification file on the new devices.
• Those who have reported in to XDA have all said that replacements were received in sealed boxes, a new device.
• Some users have been prompted with an error message affecting access to the Secure Folder and S Health. The error encountered on some replacement '2nd batch' Note 7 devices gives the following message:
Alert: Secure Folder cannot be setup because unauthorised software was installed on this device.
&
(S Health) Unable to open app: Your device has been compromised. Because of a new security policy introduced in version 5.0, Knox is not available on compromised devices.
If you're affected, XDA user @violet182 discovered that resetting the firmware using the 'Software update and initialisation setting' via SmartSwitch on a PC/Mac will resolve the issue.
What does this all mean? Well, it points to a frantic media running as many reports as they possibly can, greatly adding to the confusion as anything and everything is being reported without much investigation. Above are facts gathered from our very own community, by sharing first hand experience as Note 7 owners we can stay ahead of the rumour mill.
Firstly well done for this thread
• Samsung is indicating refurbished Note 7 devices (refurbished being recalled stock that is overhauled and reissued as the '2nd batch') via an 'RF' designation in front of the serial number
Explain this then to the idiot's in the media ...
My 1st Note which received on the 30th August 2016 had RF in from of the serial
My replacement which i received 12th September 2016 has RF in front of the serial
So my 1st which I ordered from Samsung UK direct and was in 1st 1000 was a refurbished model ??? say is as I still have it at home
Ok to share my experience for this thread...
Country of Purchase - UK
Phone Supplier - O2
Date original received - 30/08/16
Date Replacement Recieved - 12/09/16
Sticker on replacement box - Small black square
Serial Number Starting Letters (Original) - RF
Serial Number Starting Letters (Replacement) - RF
Manufacture Date of Replacement - 01/09/2016
Country of Manufacture - Vietnam
The whole RF being a refurb is bull how can my device be manufactured on the 1st of the month, be sent out, sold to a customer, returned to Samsung, refurbished, sent back out to the network provider and then sent to me within 11 days!
Received mine today (Canada). Original = 08/31/16, replacement = 09/15/16. Small black square on box, Made in China, serial number opening characters on both original and replacement = R28.
Also just set up Secure Folder and no problems there as I wanted to test that line in OP.
edit: This might be completely unrelated to the exchange program, but my original had the screen protector placed inaccurately, in that the lower half of the top speaker+lens+sensors were covered by it, letting it get some air underneath and struggle to stay on with my case (at the top). The replacement is placed perfectly, and I mean I just grabbed my measuring tape and checked like the huge nerd I am and it is precise, just perfect.

Thanks for this, I'm going to amend the line accordingly. I have noticed with my replacement that the reported expansion gap (present on my first device) is no longer present, no light bleed can be observed either.

I find the manufacturing info to be terribly inaccurate. My GS7 clearly states "MADE IN INDONESIA" on the box, but the app says China.
I'm in abu dhabi. Unit manufactured July 30, serial number starts with RF. Waiting for replacement. Is anyone there returned the unit with box incomplete accessories? They accept?

How can I see the batt_type for my note 7. I've tried the Phone INFO Samsung App?
Hello guys....not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question but will see what the mods do...
Recently, the digitizer cracked on my phone - everything worked fine but there was a hairline crack. Thought I would get it professionally replaced here in USA - but none of the "professionals" have even heard of Xiaomi! Damn, blame Samsung and Crapple for this! Anyways, finally located a "professional" who said he will replace the screen as long as I purchase the parts for him. I bought the LCD/Digitizer set and gave it to him who fixed it quite well. But sadly, the touch isn't working great. There are ghost touches and I am hardly able to use the phone. Professional blames the parts and I have contacted the seller on Ebay to get a refund or replacement.
Can you suggest a good place to purchase these parts from? Secondly, do you think it is a problem with the new parts that I replaced with? Or did the "professional" screw up?

Hi there,
today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken. The phone is still fully working. Touchscreen and everything else works without problems.
A couple of months ago I changed the front glass of a Samsung Galaxy S4 with all the necessary stuff, e.g. loca glue. For the first trial the result was acceptable. No reading the other threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3522863
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3592043
most of the posters don't recommend the replacement of the front glass. On ebay I can find both only the frontglass (about 10€) and the full suited display (about 135€). If I take an offer from china, the price would lower to 65€. Another option would be to send the phone to Oneplus and let those guys repair it.
Now the decisions I have to made:
Just buying the front glass: Would be an option, if it is the same difficulty like the Samsung phones. But I've found only one Youtube Tutorial. At 1:45 he puts something on the screen, but not sure if it's clue or just something to clean.
Buying a display from China: for about 65€ would be also ok. This can take up to 6 weeks of shipping. And in some forums I've read the quality should be much lower than the original parts from Oneplus. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Sending to Oneplus ist the last option. But this depends on the price. I opened a ticket and now I'm waiting for their offer.
What would you recommend? Has anybody changed the frontglass and can tell me about the success?

Open the ticket mate. No fuss. You'll get your device going in maximum 2 weeks. I tried replacing the glass myself and failed, I cracked the screen half way through...
Buying from eBay... Idk, but if people say they're not original, why Risk? Then again there's the struggle of doing it yourself.
The cheapest and safest is to send it to ONEPLUS.

today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken.

I have replaced hundreds of screens in devices and for the most part it is cheaper and far easier then anything else.
Im about to replace my USB port myself as soon as my tool kit gets here on Monday.
I would never send a device to the OEM to be fixed. It will cost you twice as much plus the time without a device is just stupid.
I have always trusted these people with all the stuff I need to repair. Never trust some random Youtube video.

You could find a cheaper knock off im sure but I hold a simple believe when it comes to electronics. You get what you pay for. You buy cheap and you get cheap.
The USB port was like 4 bucks with 25 dollars shipping lol.

That's been my general experience as well, with probably the exception of Intel CPUs. Got my 1700X and is better for building than a 7700K or 8700K for almost half the price.

Yeah sometimes you find a good deal. Rare as it maybe.
Got an answer from Oneplus:
Screen: EUR 57.20
Fingerprint Sensor: EUR 12.60
Labor: EUR 18.50
Vat: 23%
Total: EUR 108.61
Not sure, if there are any shippig costs to be added.

57 Euros doesn't sound bad actually especially if it's the regular screen.

What? It may suck to send your device away but why are you saying they charge you twice as much? That's misinformation. I sent mine and it only cost 80£ (labour and shipping included). Where can you buy an original display for 80 quid? Even the Knock offs from eBay cost more than that.

You are not adding in the cost of buying g another disposable device to use for the weeks your device is gone. That's for you. Do you know how much it would cost from the US for a repair?

Great! The price surprised me. When my LG V10 died I sent it in thinking it was going to be a free repair for the bootloop issue.. $400 USD to replace motherboard. **** that lol

That's the issue is being in the states. It will always be a lot more expencive coming from there then from anywhere in Europe.

Yep! Not gonna pay $400 to repair a device that is literally $100 something on Ebay or Swappa, and I am definitely not going to pay $400 for a device that is guaranteed going to bootloop again in only a years time. So I spent $300 and bought a new OP3. Originally got the V10 because as someone coming from IOS, I automatically thought all Android phones could be unlocked and rooted with ease, with some o them sweet custom ROMs. This guy didn't do his research and ended up with using LG's, horrible, horrible (I cannot stress this enough) software. Not to mention the extra thick layer of AT&T bloat behind it. I don't really care about the hardware in a phone, as long as its good enough to have the software run good.

I hear you there. I had a g2 for a while. Then moved to the nexus but the 6 had issues dealing with the cold. So got the 1+3 for a steal from a dev. To be honest. I wanted to hate it because the CEO is an idiot. But other then some crappy BT issues when on a weak wifi connection. (licensing issues I'm sure) and the fact it won't work with my smart watch. I really can't complain about about.
I replaced my Motherboard and Battery by sending it to Oneplus. I do live in the EU so that could be a big difference. But a DHL driver picked it up on Monday. And I got it back the same week on Friday fully repaired without additional costs. A screen replacement here costs about €100 which is not expensive at all.. The problem mainly is that original parts are very rare and mostly fake.

I used DHL for the first time Getting the USB port. Ordered it before Xmas and got it 2 weeks later. I was impressed with DHL as they went out of their way to make sure I got the package.
