[Q] i747 can't flash any roms - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm on the i747 and alway getting an error when flashing ROMs: error executing updater binary in zip, status 7. I read somewhere that flashing an older version of TWRP sometimes works but it did not work for me. I went all the way down to 2.3 from 2.6 for d2att. I resorted to unrooting and flashing the stock ROM via Odin and still getting the errors. I've tried flashing CM10.1, Carbon 1.8, Liquidsmooth 2.9, etc. Anything will help at this point. I refuse to be stuck on freakin TouchWiz...

Ok, this is what I think it is. You have to be on the 4.1.1 bootloader to run aosp ROMS. But, 4.1.1 based roms will not run on the 4.1.2 bootloader.

I know I'm a noob but how do I verify my bootloader? I was able to flash an older version of Carbon via TWRP 2.3.

Is it a Tmobile phone? or Wind or Mobilicity variant?
Is it rooted? How did you root?
Did you try installing a different recovery manager to flash roms with?
Did you try Odin?
Did you bring it back to 100% factory to try fresh from scratch?

its a tmobile phone. i rooted with Samsung GS3 tool kit. yes i tried using twrp and cwmr and both give me an install fail.
Try using Mobile Odin to flash.
Also you could use MrRobinsons root66 UVALH2 with odin to go back to factory stock but rooted. Then install your recovery and try again.

I believe this happened because this line in build.prop was changed:
ro.product.device=d2tmo
It couldve been changed by the rom dev, a mod, or you may have changed it to gain compatibility for the play store, or other app.
If you see that again, look for that line in build.prop and make sure its d2tmo.
It could be something entirely different, as well. But thats the first place id look.

Rooting stock 4.1.2

I know I can flash any custom ROM I want now or the rooted/odexed version of the 4.1.2 OTA, but just for a little while I'd like to keep the flash counter at zero.
I'm still on 4.1.1 because I just got my phone 2 days ago, and I flashed the non-tripping stock root odin package before I even turned my phone on. But now I see there's an update for 4.1.2 (that someone said has multiview???) and I was wondering if there's a way to get to 4.1.2 and root it without tripping the flash counter.
Ideas?
Exynos abuse exploit. Google search it after you take the update. Download it and run it.

I'm not questioning you (thanks by the way), but I thought the 4.1.2 update was specifically to fix that issue. Was that not for the Note II?

Get the update.zip file and copy to your cache directory .
Go into recovery mode (vol up +home+power) → flash from cache. and done ...It won't wipe your data... . .and you will get you multiview.
From your previous comment. ..don't worry about custom rom count. .it can be easily rest via triangleaway.

Did. Still gave me the error when flashing in recovery. Also the root is like not working completely. Some apps don't ask for permission and so I can't give it to them.

[Q] CM 10.1.2 upgrade problems

Please don't tear me apart if this is the wrong thread...
So I'm currently running CM 10.0 and I'm trying to upgrade (through CWM) to 10.1.2 stable, but I am running into a status 7 error. I have done the following (In no particular order)
-made backup and wiped phone (including cache and dalvik cache)
-flashed the latest bootloader
-double checked MD5 sum and it was a match
-upgraded to most recent CWM
-tried fixing the assertions (as highonandroid suggests)
So what am I doing wrong?

Do a search for status 7
Because you've updated your cwm than your bootloader is out of date.

What do you mean do a search for status 7? I've searched all I can, those were all the solutions I came up with. First I updated CWM, then I fixed the assertions, then I redownloaded it for a clean start and then flashed the latest bootloader, and none of that worked.

You can have an old bootloader and have a newer modem.
Modem is your current baseband.
Here's an example. My bootloader is LK4 which is good for flashing and my modem (baseband) is MF1
Go in terminal emulator and type
su
getprop ro.bootloader
It'll tell you your bootloader if it's different than your baseband

And now is where I feel like an idiot...
The bootloader does not match my baseband, so since I am clearly incapable of flashing a new bootloader, can you provide me with a link that would help? Preferably one that could work with mobile Odin since access to a computer is limited for me right now

lol... that's hillarious actually. Bet it patches Motochopper 1.3 too...
Motorola's site still says "Future plan coming soon." so I wouldn't take this as a pro or a con on the update past 4.1.2 likelihood.
Pray that there is a loophole in this update...

Since the update hasn't been released yet, there is no guarantee of anything.
I would advice against updating until someone has it and there is a way to root it.

On a fresh phone no root or unlock. Motochop or motofail methods don't work. I included system info for version numbers.
Huh, I just today got 98.18.94, looks like they are almost the same. Yours has a build date one day later, and the same build number, but yours has a -1 on the end, everything else looks the same. I wonder what was wrong with my build that made them build you a newer one
I flashed on top of (Mostly) Stock Rooted, with TWRP, and TWRP managed to keep root intact for me, so it was all good. I had to tweak the zip, to remove the checking and updating of DeskClock and LatinIME, as I have the newer version of both installed, that's about all that isn't stock for me.
Cheers
Rich
