[Q] CM 10.1.2 upgrade problems - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Please don't tear me apart if this is the wrong thread...
So I'm currently running CM 10.0 and I'm trying to upgrade (through CWM) to 10.1.2 stable, but I am running into a status 7 error. I have done the following (In no particular order)
-made backup and wiped phone (including cache and dalvik cache)
-flashed the latest bootloader
-double checked MD5 sum and it was a match
-upgraded to most recent CWM
-tried fixing the assertions (as highonandroid suggests)
So what am I doing wrong?

Do a search for status 7
Because you've updated your cwm than your bootloader is out of date.

What do you mean do a search for status 7? I've searched all I can, those were all the solutions I came up with. First I updated CWM, then I fixed the assertions, then I redownloaded it for a clean start and then flashed the latest bootloader, and none of that worked.

Well this is the issue. Status 7 is
Out of date recovery
Out of date bootloader
So you have no other options really...
So you can see my concern and attempt at grasping at straws to help.

Only other thing I can think of is you flashed the modem not the bootloader
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

Well my baseband changed when I flashed it (brace yourself for a potentially dumb question(s) ) so did I flash a bootloader or a modem? Also what's the difference?

You can have an old bootloader and have a newer modem.
Modem is your current baseband.
Here's an example. My bootloader is LK4 which is good for flashing and my modem (baseband) is MF1
Go in terminal emulator and type
su
getprop ro.bootloader
It'll tell you your bootloader if it's different than your baseband
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

And now is where I feel like an idiot...
The bootloader does not match my baseband, so since I am clearly incapable of flashing a new bootloader, can you provide me with a link that would help? Preferably one that could work with mobile Odin since access to a computer is limited for me right now

No custom kernel...I did play with recoveries before going to stock JB. I had CWM then TWRP, but now back to stock with Mobile ODIN.
I just flashed Stock LH1 with a full wipe, then flashed the leaked OTA JB thinking it would work the bug out, but its still there...

Try flashing a ROM or use odin to flash it totally back to stock. Try flashing the ROM first since you can always fix that with odin.
That way we can tell if the phone is having hardware issues or not.

Root should be fine. Its the custom recovery that'll prevent you from even being able to get the update.
You will lose root though unless you use voodoo rootkeeper or mobile odin pro.

You probably have a custom recovery causing it to fail.
Regardless of how you update you will possibly lose some settings. Its recommended, but not required to do a clean update anyway. But flashing with odin should preserve your settings as well as the ota would. Once they boot up it shouldn't matter as the resulting build is the same.

Depends if you've done anything to your current build.
Cwm will flash it, but I just don't care for it. Caused probs for quite a few people.
But you have to be full stock. No mods, no deodexing, no bloat removal, no modems flashed, etc.
Then you should be able to flash it in cwm.
Its preferred you do it through stock recovery. You can use voodoo rootkeeper to preserve root.

Question about d2att to d2bell/d2can

I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S III I747M through Bell, but am a bit lost with ROM flashing. I flashed to new ROM's quite frequently on my old Motorola Milestone, but I am a bit confused with the ROM's for the S III since there are so many variants.
My main question is, as a Bell user am I limited to only d2bell roms or can I change information in the build props or elsewhere to flash d2att roms? I am currently running rooted CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 and my have been unsuccessful so far in flashing ROMs.

I had the same problem but prefer twrp over cwm so all I did was change my build.prop in rom toolbox, then downloaded goo.im from the playstore. Does changing from a d2can to d1att version of twrp work the same way? I can just flash on top of the existing wihtout any uninstalls and im assuming the d2att can still load d2can backups?
I know twrp are backward compatible, but are they cross version compatible?

If you flash that recovery file it only changes your version of cwr.

I haven't tested it in CWM. All I have tested it in was TWRP. It may or may not work.

I have only tested through TWRP, so I don't know if it will work or not with CWM. I prefer you use TWRP.

The T999L is the Superior Cousin T999 never was. It has an LTE antenna that the T999 is missing. Practically all the Custom Roms will work fine from one to the other.
If you want to flash custom Recovery then use Goo Manager and hit Install Custom Recovery Script.
Yea already tried goo manager but it said no recovery scripts were found for your device

You need to use ODIN to flash that Version. There's plenty of Tutorials on How to use ODIN.
I know how to use it, I tried it last night but everything fails.

Could be your Bootloader is locked.
Are you absolutely sure you are successfully Rooted ? Please use Root Checker App if in doubt.
When you tried to flash the Recovery via ODIN, what was the error ? Can you post a screenshot ?
With due respect "Everything Fails" doesn't really tell me squat.
I'll do that when i get back home.

i tried it via odin again and it worked i have no idea what was wrong with it, thanks for finding those TWRP files for me.
Do a quick search before going any further. I have a T999L thread that answers most any question you may have.
