I’ve read about the wifi issues but was wondering is anyone may have some input. My Ouya is nearly worthless at holding a wifi signal and at local file access. The strange thing is that is seems to mostly effect the download speeds. I side-loaded speed test and can get between 2 to 3.5mbps upload speed most of the time. I am stuck getting .5 to .75mbps down. I realize this is internet speeds but the local network is even slower. It is so slow I am unable to stream off a local network location. I have not had similar problems with other android devices and my 3 year old Motorola phone can get better download speeds off wifi.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

You're not alone. I get the same thing. After a factory reset, the speed pushes to ~1Mbps down, ~4Mbps up, which is still pathetic. There's threads about this problem all over the place.
Same here. Maybe a limit in some config?

Being too lazy to try at the moment and not having the time to attempt it, Has anyone with this issue seen if it goes away with CM10?
If i can get some time this weekend i can try to see if i can boot CM10 non destructively and see if the wifi issues still exist.
When i have some spare time i will skimm sources and configs see what the reason might be. Maybe even kernel related?

Personally I think it is an artifact of using a OS written for mobile devices and power saving on an always on device. I am thinking drivers and or configs are the culprit. In the small amount of looking I did i see WiFi issues are common with JB in general. I have seen a couple threads about similar problems and fixes but they have mixed results at best.
It looks like there are more recent versions of the stock drivers for the BCM4330 chip available
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/hardware/broadcom/wlan/+/master/bcmdhd/firmware/bcm4330
From looking at the bin files from the most recent Ouya OTA it looks like the version there is Version: 5.90.195.89 CRC: 2303bcd6
then again.... i may be reading that wrong, that has happened more then once.

After looking some more i think the next appropriate step would be to upgrade the drivers to the newest version to see if that helps. I cant find a reference to the version in the OTA anywhere but a few snippets form pastebin about the RasPi running jellybean.
I've got a gaggle of kids to watch tonight but may get time to play with it tomorrow. If anyone else wants to take the plunge as well please post how ti goes.

I updated the drivers. The good news is the system still booted and worked fine. The bad news is that is did not seem to make any difference in the wifi signal strength or speed.
EDIT:
More followup. I put iwconfig on the Ouya and messed with the txpower setting. It has zero effect. it said 1496 once and it said 1 once but the wifi strength never really moved and the down and up speeds were still poor.

Hi
Got my One X yesterday and the sim card is not activated yet.
When i'm using e.g Tapatalk or are trying to replying to facebook comments it takes ages to finish.
I can't use my SMS Backup+ to restore my SMS's...
This can't be because of the non activated sim-card....
Very bad i think!
I'm beginning to think it's my router... does it have restrictions with wifi in some way?

Tapatalk for example kinda times out and never returns to screen. Just the small window on top saying working or something. I think something is wrong with tapatalk... I changed my WiFi channel yesterday and got a faster browsing experience, but tapa has problem here.
I've narrowed it down to my WiFi connection, because my device is faster on 3G data connection.
Someone else here who have a Netgear WNR2000 router? (longshot i know)
EDIT: Have now found out that this is a "known" issue and i have to wait for the fix!

Hey guys I managed to fix my GPS I changed my GPS.conf file with TopNTP to my local state (Germany) and now it takes one or two SECONDS for the GPS to find my location. And Google Maps finds me now also, one or two seconds (location setting is to only device) and its very accurate. You can try it at your own.

Doesn't work on omni rom
This wont help at all in overall performance. I think all we need is to change our gps pool to a country/region specific one. Horribly inaccurate tracking after i tried this. Makes loops etc.
OK. After testing stock settings again, you really can say that this improves GPS. It doesnt matter that its more inaccurate than on stock because stock gets a lock for 1-2kms on 10km bike rides. Sometimes it doesnt get it at all, and sometimes it tracks the whole route. My Nokia 6220classic had perfect gps... I guess Huawei doesnt like to pay for patents. I use sports tracker, but Maps has the same problems with GPS navigation.
Do I just have to accept that I just have managed to buy a no-gps android-phone again? My last one was GS, which had flawed design considering gps - although it still has way better gps with Cyanogen mod than p6. Navigation unusable on both, but GS had good enough reception for sports tracking apps.
I was having slow and unstable GPS lock on T-mobile USA, but using the default settings in TopNTP I'm getting much better GPS performance. I think it's highly dependent on what country you're in.
Its way better but still horrible compared to G2 (or old 6220c). Applied it again and got rid of the loop issue.
TopNTP didn't work for me, unfortunately. I still have to wait a considerable amount of time for GPS to fix location.
The GPS is incredibly even worse than on Samsung Galaxy S i9000. And on top of that theres a software glitch which makes the GPS to go off until reboot. Today I had to do a factory reset to get it work on maps and other apps as it just wouldnt turn on. On the plus side, now i got a fix on every attempt when i was outside in under 20s.
Im just angry because not one review mentioned this poor gps-performance. And that means no reviewer is to be trusted. Galaxy s gets a fix inside my apartment and it has a well know hardware issue with gps-antenna. Why did they have to copy every aspect of iphone4? Just copy the looks and fix antenna issues. If the HTC one lookalike from Huawei has the same problems as the original, i'd really look into the possibility of corporate espionage .

As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.

Now for my original post - below.

I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.

this one looks good. maybe i will also make a mod, but first of all, i need to send my P8000 back to the seller, because i have a "clouding" effect on my screen.
My WiFi signal is actually stronger than my galaxy s3 but suffers from the DNS issue(if that indeed is the real cause) so I lose connection from time to time though it still shows as connected.

Do you loose the Internet connection only in your phone or also other Internet devices? You think the DNS issue is caused by your Internet provider or its a Problem from the P8000?
What exacly do you mean with loose connection? If the phone is in the sleep mode, then the frequency of the sync is pretty low, a good example is whatsapp web service. Sometimes its needed to turn the P8000 on and off. But this is a normal scenario.

A good example is the gaming, when i'm in playing with clash of clans, the signal go down and i must do the reconnection to have it again.
I have an Asus memo pad 7" that never lost the signal in the same conditions, so i think the problem is in the P8000 not in my wifi

Thats for a Galaxy phone the last thing you want to do is put pieces of foil or copper in your phone, with the potential of shorting it out.
Unless you no what your doing is safe.

Hi there all!
Since the update on the MIUI 10.3.1.0 PEEMIXM my GPS isn't working at all. Every GPS fix app I tried so far simply doesn't see any satellites in the sky. Google maps not working. It never finds any GPS whatsoever.
Anyone has similar issues?
Googled a bit but not with much info. I tried to reflash through OTA the last build without any different effect. Remove all updates from Google maps also did not solve the problem.
Any ideas?
Best regards,
David
PS: Device is a Mi Mix 3 Global version.
Something could've gotten borked in the vendor image. I would try a full fastboot. Just don't wipe data.

Yes, in the overall menu at the top (what's it called btw?) the GPS Icon is marked as blue, so "on". And in the settings it's on high precision (GPS+wifi+network).
But you're right, it behaves like it isn't on at all.
I don't have any issues with my Chinese device running Global Stable 10.3.1.0. I use Microsoft's Here maps though, which works perfectly fine.

Is there a easy way of rollbacking to the last version? Wanna check if the issue is still there on another version... Without voiding the guarantee.
