Submitting things online takes ages to finish... - HTC One X

Hi
Got my One X yesterday and the sim card is not activated yet.
When i'm using e.g Tapatalk or are trying to replying to facebook comments it takes ages to finish.
I can't use my SMS Backup+ to restore my SMS's...
This can't be because of the non activated sim-card....
Very bad i think!
I'm beginning to think it's my router... does it have restrictions with wifi in some way?

How slow is slow? Could you give us specific times?

Tapatalk for example kinda times out and never returns to screen. Just the small window on top saying working or something. I think something is wrong with tapatalk... I changed my WiFi channel yesterday and got a faster browsing experience, but tapa has problem here.
I've narrowed it down to my WiFi connection, because my device is faster on 3G data connection.
Someone else here who have a Netgear WNR2000 router? (longshot i know)
EDIT: Have now found out that this is a "known" issue and i have to wait for the fix!

And check if the 4th entry is set to "wcdma/gsm auto"

Have you got another device for checking? Put the SIM into another device for checking wether it goes there or not. Second, call your provider. Most of the time its something wrong with provider network.
Since your device is able to get mobile network in certain areas, it is most probably a provider problem.
I hope it helps!
Greetings

Got exact same problem here. Thought I was the only one. Weird enough only at my home. Inside a radius of 200 meters.
Factory reset doesn't work, New sim doesn't work, flashing custom rom doesn't work. APN settings checked and they were ok.
I contacted my provider to see if the problem on their side. Because I have the problem only at home.
Will keep you updated as soon I know more about it.
@edit:
When the problem first encountered here, I used a tool called "Shark" and "Shark Viewer" to capture my network traffic. Sites and apps are responding back, but the packets that I get were 0 in size. They were almost all empty, only the Google Talk app was able to send packets which actually contains data.
Today i will change my handset in a new one. Them i will test it again with the same simcard on the same place. I will update here.

Any news in this. I have the same problem, and im beginning to think my phone might be defect?
Same here, i woke up without data connection, simply turrning phone to fligt mode and back fixed it. But its weird really weird
I think this is some software issue not H/W , anyone with the same problem ?
Me too, this is weird, think its a bug or has anything to do with the new update that I didn't get?

If u have rooted ur phone u have a fix.
Otherwise u have to wait for HTC to bring a fix via OTA.
Chances are this problem always existed for you and others from the beginning but you just didn't notice it because it is very scenario-specific.
Phone must be OFF the charger and it only happens at night times (12am-7am or something like that) to BOTH wifi and mobile data...
Hope this helps some
Oh lol that happens on almost every phone Wtf. Just reboot... Really!

No WiFi issues here, I would say it is most likely the router playing up.

[Q] Gmail and Chrome Issue

So I finally jumped the gun and bought a UK LG G3 from Carphone Warehouse. I have to say I am very impressed with the phone and I am coming from SGS 4.
Three issues that I have encountered and was hoping someone can help -
1) Connecting to Wifi access point sometimes takes ages. Especially the first time. It goes from "connecting" to "saved" to "connecting". This was never an issue with my previous phone.
2) Gmail - Takes ages to open some emails. When I click on an email, it goes to the email screen but the screen is blank and it takes 15-20 seconds or more to bring the content. Again, I did a like for like comparison with my previous phone and there definitely seems to be an issue which I have not seen before.
3)Chrome - Sometimes chrome is very very slow in opening pages which open very fast on my previous phone. I am getting a lot of "webpage cannot be found".
Any help or insight into this would be great.
Cheers,
Vish

I thought this was a wifi issue too but I am having similar issues when using 4G data. Also, I tried speedtest and I was getting over 100MBps speed so internet speed on wifi was fine.
I thought maybe the issue is with CPU not coping sue to the QHD screen and was wondering if others had similar issues.

Hi all, I have a problem with Chrome. I'm using galaxy s5 and whenever I open the browser for the first time I get the message: Unable to access the network, but once I refresh the page it loads everything as it should. How do I fix it without having to constantly keep chrome in the RAM. Thanks

Wifi unstable

It appears that my wifi is very unstable. After transfering around 250mb, my connection stops working. Usually the connection requires me to cycle wifi in order to get it working once more.
I initialy thought that the issue could be fixed in the tmobile software update, but that was not the case. The issue persists after the update that took place last night.
Are any of you experiancing this? Any thoughts on how to resolve? I have setup a warranty replacement but id rather just send that back and keep my already setup device.

well i guess my search skills are lacking compared to yours. There is 1 post that is in the troubleshooting section that is titled with a [fix] tag. but that is not really a fix. it is simply a workaround by not using the 5ghz band. this makes it so that i cannot use my ac connection.
but since you are so much more in the know and your search skills are far better than mine. can you please point me to the threads about this issue?

i suggest you stop assuming anything and search yourself. Also stop being a ****, its unnecessary. But i am sure it helps you feel so much more knowledgeable and better to post a "lrn 2 search" reply.
my guess is that you seen wifi blah blah blah and were like "this is the same as wifi calling not working or wifi turning off after the screen turns off" or some other basic issue.
but hey you know, here is a great search http://bfy.tw/J57

I don't see how this thread is redundant, there's no need to police the forums.
OP's issue is something I've had - a factory reset, TheClefSLC, seemed to do something productive, though I still get drops when data is being transferred on a moderately large scale. As of now I think we'll have to either wait for a software/firmware update or, once the device is unlocked, experiment with ROM modifications...

I'm returning mine tomorrow.. this is unacceptable. Wifi just stops working.
I have 5ghz off on my router, so it is doing it on 2.4 too.
Try changing the channel on the router. I had about 8-10 instances over 24 hours where the phone just stopped transmitting data with the router. I had to toggle Wi-Fi to fix it. I changed the channel on my router and haven't had an issue in 48 hours or so now. Seems to have worked.

I think that this may just be the fix to our WiFi problems. I put my 2.4Ghz on channel 6 and my 5Ghz on 40. Seems to have done the trick, and my speeds seem faster on the 5Ghz on channel 40. well see how it goes over the next few days.

Well, it seems to put a band aid on the problem. It works fine for a little while, maybe a few hours. But after that the problems return. At least they did for me
I just tried the 2.4:6/5:40 setting with my Asus RT-AC68U. 2.4 ran a bit faster according to the Speedtest app, but 5 ran at pretty much the same speed (both were set to auto channel select beforehand). I am going to tinker around with it some more and see if I can improve upon it.
I have noticed the same issue on both 2.5 and 5ghz. I stream music thru chromecast and frequently experience lost connections. Very annoying. I hope this is an issue that is addressed soon in an update.

[SOLVED] M9 seems slow? [UPDATE] Wifi possibly my issue??

[SOLVED]
As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.
_______________________________
Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.
