[Q] Q: maps not opening from contacts - HTC One X

hy!
After new google maps update I can't open adress stored in any contact. When I tap on address nothing happened?
anione know the fix
tnx

Same here, and location history doesn´t work either..

Same here on the HTC One S. I believe it's since the latest Google Maps update. In my case it came up with a pre-installed navigation app instead of Google Maps that started normally. Disabling the pre-installed navigation app results in no navigatuin/map popping up at all.

Temporary work-around from droidforums.net:
Open contacts, scroll down to the person , Do NOT open their info. Just click on their picture, or icon, from the main contacts list. It will open up options to call, send email, open maps, and a few other things.
Click to collapse

The issue is fixed after installing the Google Maps update of 2013-08-16.

Facebook Sync VZW

I know google and Facebook don't get along when it come to contacts. But is there a work around since i don't see the option to sync in the app. I don't care too much about the photos but more the numbers.
You can download friendcaster from the market which will sync contacts and pictures.
If you are interested in rooting and custom roms, Paul from Modaco has it working with the gsm version (still in beta, but it works). There isn't a LTE version yet, but if you're patient, I'm sure he'll be able to get a LTE version of his rom eventually. In the meantime, people have confirmed friendcaster works for now.
No methods that I know of yet ( GSM Galaxy Nexus) however you can sync pictures with contacts by navigating to the picture and clicking the menu button (3 dots) and clicking set as
Edit: it think friend caster works too

I could have sworn that the official Facebook app allowed for contact syncing. I guess it just hasn't been integrated for the GN yet? I really don't want to have to text all my friends and tell them to send me a picture of themselves. lol
Just download "SyncMyPix" from the market. Takes like 30 seconds to sync all of your contacts with their Facebook pictures. You can even set it to sync like once per day if you wanted to. I just use it once a week or so and it works perfectly (at least I did on one of my other phones, and I will here).
Used it on the way home from the Verizon store this morning and it had them all synced up before I was on the highway.

The Nexus phones don't do this. The Nexus One did, but that was before Google changed their policy. Facebook refuses to update to a different API that Google created for contact syncing/management and, as such, Google turns off their ability to sync on official devices.
Facebook's just too damned stubborn to make the (SIMPLE) change.

Thanks for that elaborate response! This is my first Nexus phone so I am still learning all the ins and outs of this thing. I will check out SyncMyPix now.

Any phone with vanilla android will no longer have contact sync with Facebook. (Been this way since the Nexus S) Unless Facebook starts using the API's Google provided them, which Facebook refused to do, this feature will not work unless you have an android overlay like sense, touchwiz, blur, or a custom rom that has enabled this feature.
If you don't want a custom rom, you will have to settle for apps from the market like friendcaster and syncmypics to work around the problem that isn't resolved between Facebook and Google, for now at least.

New Galaxy Nexus - How to Import Facebook contacts/pictures?

Have the latest Nexus. Unable to add "Facebook" as contact account. I select Facebook after "add account" and it doesn't seem to add them in.
It's not allowed on ICS. I used FriendCaster and this worked perfectly! The only annoying thing is the low resolution of photos... But that's not a Friendcaster's problem...

With HaxSync, do you have the option to only sync with your existing contacts?
With Friendcaster, you can only sync all contacts, so all of your Facebook friends show up in your contacts.
I bought HaxSync and can say it blows. It often doesn't pair up phone contacts with Facebook contacts. This means having doubles.
Android 2.0.3 will resolve this issue and I would suggest waiting a few weeks

back up your original apk's before doing this manual mod. read comments, someone's phone got borked.
Borked is now a meme!
Can anyone confirm if 4.03 fixes this?
This is a pretty big omission. Wasnt social network updates in the people app was one of the major features announced with ics?
why not get an aftermarket rom that supports this???
Option B.. Friendcaster... IMO this is the best option.... i dont see a problem with my contacts.. i have 1324 fb friends.. all you gotta do is go to People.. Accounts... and just remove friendcaster from your contacts to be displayed and wallaaa.. you dont have a crapload of contacts in your list..
SyncMyPix > Haxsync
So there's SyncMyPix, HaxSync, and Friendcaster.
Which ones sync with existing contacts well so people don't get their huge facebook friend list in their contacts?
Which ones are able to deal with slight name changes for matching contacts and/or with/without middle name?
Which ones sync Hi Res pictures? (when I researched this a little while back, only HaxSync did this)

Another option is this

you run it on your desktop and it syncs facebook contacts to Gmail.

How to forward a contact ?

I am extremely frustrated that Google didn't improve this for ICS.
In my business we forward contacts to each other on a daily basis. Get new clients and have to share them with employees.
Anyways before the easiest way, was to text them. So let's says Mike needs Joe #, I would open text message to send Mike and click menu, and there should be an option to add contact, you scroll through your contacts list for Joe, click it and then it would attach to the text and be forwarded.
That was standard fair on my last five Android phones. But in ICS that option is not there. And here's the kicker, go into contact list of people, I thought OK we can forward from here. Nope. I click a contact name and the menu button and yes it does allow forwarding, but not to text only by Bluetooth and email.
Sire I know GO SMS does thus, but I like my ROM running pure stock no add ons.

This is something I would like to know aswell - I have just either been emailing or copy/pasting the phone number which is not ideal.
I have had it on all my other phones and never realised how much I would miss a small feature like this
personally i use barcode scanner to share contacts. It generates a QR code which then the other person can scan and add it to their contacts.
you are right about messaging being gone for sharing. very strange that they removed that.
Open your people app
Select the contact of choice and open it
Hit the setting button in the upper right hand of the screen and select share
Than you can email or text to someone else
Please hit the thanks button if I helped.

Pure MRA58K - Play Store doesn't list installed Apps

I have several brand new 16gb 2013 Nexus 7s that I need to set up for a project at work. I created a new Google account and updated both to Marshmallow according to the instructions here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en
I've done two so far and both are exhibiting the same strange behavior. The Play Store isn't listing the installed apps or automatically updating them. Under My Apps, both INSTALLED and ALL are completely empty.
Things I've tried:
Clearing Storage On Play Store
Reboot
Factory Wipe
I searched for gmail and found that it needed an update. I manually installed the update and now it's in the list.
Made a second new Google Account
I added new user and set up my personal Google Account in the device and it recognized all of the system and immediately started updating them.
I don't want to have to install my personal account on all of these tablets. Do anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my new Google accounts and how I could fix them?
Check out the top quality support I got from Google:

Hi! Thanks for getting in touch with Google. My name is Harry. How are you doing today?

I've noticed that you're experiencing issues with the Nexus 7. Is that correct?
me 11:41 AM
Yep
Harry 11:43 AM
Please don't worry. I'll help you resolving the issue for you.
Could you please elaborate the issue?
me 11:43 AM
Could you please explain what part you are having trouble understanding?
Harry 11:47 AM
If I understand correctly, the original account that was used while setting up the account doesn't download the apps automatically but when you add a new user in the device, all the associated apps get downloaded, is that correct?
me 11:49 AM
I created a new Google Account and with it the Play Store does not recognize the installed system apps on a brand new install. But when I set up an old, established Google Account as an additional user on the tablet, it recognized the system apps.
Harry 11:51 AM
Could give me the example of the system apps that aren't recognized with the new account?
Could you please give me the example of the system apps that aren't recognized with the new account?

Gmail, Hangouts, Maps, Google Plus, Drive, Chrome. All of the default Google Apps that are installed to the system partition.
Calendar, Keep, Clock, Calculator, Photos, Keyboard, YouTube, WEbView, Camera
Harry 11:54 AM
Thank you for the information.
Please give me a minute, let me check about this with my level 2 team.

Thanks for your patience. I'm still conversing with my team. It might take few more minutes. Please bear your time with me.
me 11:57 AM
No problem
Harry 12:04 PM
Thanks for waiting. I appreciate your patience.
Harry 12:08 PM
I've checked this with my level 2 team, it seems that the issue is because it is a modified device.
me 12:25 PM
What does that mean? It's brand new.
me 12:33 PM
Hello? Will you please answer me?
Are you kidding me? What kind of support is this?
I've seen this problem with many phones and brand new google profiles. Manually search for the apps and update them. You can also find them with appbrain.

HONOR 7 * EMUI 4.1 * Android Marshmallow * CONTACTS APP MISSING & NICE FEATURES*

The Honor 7 is a fantastic phone, but the contact management app is missing some features:
1. Manual Merge of the contacts. Even if has auto merge, this function doesn't catch all the duplicates, this is normal, but at that point should allow a fast merge or link of contacts.
2. Picture Sync. Management. There is a way to import pictures.... but some times take Skype, some times Whatsapp, some times facebook, there is not direct control.
3. General Layout Graphics Control. While for the other apps of contacts managemet you can see division by letter, the Huawei-Honor Emui lay-out is not separate, and letters and really small in the side.
I see these features are missing also in the last Huawei P9, I hope we can get an update with these ones.
The best ones:
1. Show the area where you dialed. Very useful when you have contacts that have phones in 2 different cities.
2. Lost calls in red
3. Possibility to call with any one of the linked apps from the contact list.
I think this apply to all EMUI 4 and EMUI 4.1 phones
Vote your missing and best features of contacts app
Aside from what you mentioned, nothing else
