The Honor 7 is a fantastic phone, but the contact management app is missing some features:
1. Manual Merge of the contacts. Even if has auto merge, this function doesn't catch all the duplicates, this is normal, but at that point should allow a fast merge or link of contacts.
2. Picture Sync. Management. There is a way to import pictures.... but some times take Skype, some times Whatsapp, some times facebook, there is not direct control.
3. General Layout Graphics Control. While for the other apps of contacts managemet you can see division by letter, the Huawei-Honor Emui lay-out is not separate, and letters and really small in the side.
I see these features are missing also in the last Huawei P9, I hope we can get an update with these ones.
The best ones:
1. Show the area where you dialed. Very useful when you have contacts that have phones in 2 different cities.
2. Lost calls in red
3. Possibility to call with any one of the linked apps from the contact list.
I think this apply to all EMUI 4 and EMUI 4.1 phones
Vote your missing and best features of contacts app
Aside from what you mentioned, nothing else

I am extremely frustrated that Google didn't improve this for ICS.
In my business we forward contacts to each other on a daily basis. Get new clients and have to share them with employees.
Anyways before the easiest way, was to text them. So let's says Mike needs Joe #, I would open text message to send Mike and click menu, and there should be an option to add contact, you scroll through your contacts list for Joe, click it and then it would attach to the text and be forwarded.
That was standard fair on my last five Android phones. But in ICS that option is not there. And here's the kicker, go into contact list of people, I thought OK we can forward from here. Nope. I click a contact name and the menu button and yes it does allow forwarding, but not to text only by Bluetooth and email.
Sire I know GO SMS does thus, but I like my ROM running pure stock no add ons.

This is something I would like to know aswell - I have just either been emailing or copy/pasting the phone number which is not ideal.
I have had it on all my other phones and never realised how much I would miss a small feature like this
personally i use barcode scanner to share contacts. It generates a QR code which then the other person can scan and add it to their contacts.
you are right about messaging being gone for sharing. very strange that they removed that.
Open your people app
Select the contact of choice and open it
Hit the setting button in the upper right hand of the screen and select share
Than you can email or text to someone else
Please hit the thanks button if I helped.

Just thought I'd let you folks know about Contacts+ (previously called ContApps, I think), the contacts app I'm using on my stock N4.
It is totally packed with features (chiefly, integration with social networks, WhatsApp integration and smart ordering), looks absolutely lovely, and just elevates the Android experience when using a smartphone as, you know, a phone (which is something I feel that smartphones are getting less smart at doing..).
As an added bonus, it pimps out your SMS and call log appearance and functionality as well.
The team that build it are also really responsive and quite pleasant to interact with.
(I can't post links because I'm a few posts too short still, but it's easily enough found on the Play Store by searching for "Contacts+".)

Hey,
There should be a Whatsapp button in the left sidebar (next to the Facebook, messaging, etc) whenever you open a contact that has Whatsapp as well.
If this doesn't work properly, check the FAQ question "Does Contacts+ integrate with Whatsapp" at: Contacts+ settings > FAQ.
Or send us an error report via Contacts+ settings > feedback > report an issue.
Thanks!

I sure think so, but I'm biased
Contacts+ had been downloaded over 1 million times, and has a 4.4 rating, so I'd say it's worth a try...
Please let us know what you like/dislike about it, we listen closely to our users, and we try to release new improved versions every 1-2 weeks.
A new version was just released yesterday with a couple of new features like a new screen showing your recent messages with a specific contact.
You can suggest new features or report problems in Contacts+ settings > feedback.
Thanks

New themes are coming soon... stay tuned for lots of new features as well!
Does this contact manager support adding multiple nicknames to 1 contact? I have 2 nicknames that I want to assign to 1 of my contacts but the stock app only allows 1 nickname to be assigned. I would gladly use this app if it had that feature. Also does it still sync with my gmail account/gmail contacts?
will try this on my sensation.
will it uninstall ok ?

I'd be interested to hear what Contacts+ have to say about that too.
That said, GoSMS, GoContacts are free as are millions of others. Just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean they are harvesting data.
Contacts+ is nice, however it is constantly the highest battery drain on my phone, even above Screen.

Not better .. Keep is more Basic .. Evernote is a more mature app with Advanced features.
Keep has a prettier UI. Does the simpler jobs easily.
Also its integrated with Google Now .. or Google Voice commands. You can say "Note" or "Make a note" , "Note to self" and Google with take voice input and create a note for it.
sweet, thanks... i've been trying to follow this, but the drama behind it going from "coming soon" to "canceled" back to "coming soon" to, now released was getting annoying.

Nice and simple app. but missing an option to encrypt notes.
When I use google now voice option to "make a note" or "note", i am unable to pull them up in google keep app. Where does it save those notes?
FAQ on the speech-api in 'keep'... if you tap the mic icon and speak, it does realtime speech-to-text AND has a filesink for the Audio track. At the end of your session with speaking to the mike, there are 2 outputs ( mp3 file with the widget for playback/audio, the TextView w/ the text converted during your speech )...
that is a nice trick. Will that be in an intent or in the api? IMO the buffer that's filled by the mic is used to both send the FLAC stream to speech-recognizer-api and the buffer is encoded or saved for audio track that can be playback by the player widget.
Here is log on the event 'tap the mic icon to make new keep-note' ...

Didnt want to make a new thread for this but since we are talking about apps and stuff announced at Google I/O. New updates for Google Play music and Google search are in the play store. Google Play Music looks COMPLETELY different.
It tried to verify my number, but I think that's a WhatsApp style link for others to find you.
However, my SIM reports my number as something else entirely because I ported a number over. So it couldn't verify me. Trying to talk to my network now, they're not answering...

This is transitioning Talk into Hangouts so it may take a little time for everything to line up. At first I was being directed to "Hangouts (replaces Talk)" that just said "open" on my device, and it looked like Talk. But then, after a dozen impatient refreshes, "open" changed to "update". Now Talk is labeled Hangout and has the new UI, but the icon is still Talk. Messages I am sending in Hangout on my phone are appearing in Talk in gmail on my comp right now.

If I'm understanding you right, you're trying to access Hangouts via the Gmail web interface. The Chrome Hangouts plugin does NOT replace the Talk box in Gmail. It adds an extra app, which is accessed by clicking the Hangouts icon on your Chrome toolbar.
The Gmail web interface will be rolled out later and will be upgraded from within Gmail itself.

I use Hangouts, SMS only no Google Voice. Seems to work great. I see a lot of people like Textra.
Personally I'm a big fan of the new stock SMS "Messenger" app that comes with 5.0 Lollipop (you can easily sideload the APK); it works a bit more seamlessly with the watch in my opinion, and I like the app itself better than Hangouts. In terms of having the message marked "read" when you dismiss it, I haven't found one yet that has that functionality (not completely anyway) I've used the stock Samsung S5 Messaging app, Hangouts, and the new Lollipop Messenger app; usually they all behave the same way, when you read and dismiss it from your watch, it dismisses the notification on your phone, but when you go into the messaging app the message is still "unread" within the app.

The stock Messaging app on the Sony Z3 has the option to Mark as Read on one of the left swipes - and also to read the whole message thread, and Reply or Open on Phone. I actually prefer it this way, personally, as I might want to swipe away the clutter on the watch while also not losing track on the phone of any messages I need to return to later.
In some ways it's more like reading an expanded notifcation on the phone, then optionally tapping Mark as Read there if you don't care about it.
* Textra allows you to mark as read, and reply by voice only (not with WM, i.e. no Minuum support)
* EvolveSMS (I haven't tested this in three months) allows you to select up to three 'buttons' which then reflect as actions on your wearable
* Hangouts can reply with Minuum, and can view full conversation, but won't mark the conversation as read
Basically, in my opinion, there is no perfect Wear-compatible SMS app out there.
EvolveSMS allows mark as read and voice reply through android wear and has high definition contact photos.
I use it in combination with wear messenger to be able to view full conversation lists. However, it also works great by itself

Does it sync with contact photos that are taken from the Google contact joins? Or does it require the premium IAP to manage its own sync?

Yep contact photos will sync automatically with whatever photos you've got on your google contacts. I believe the IAPs are primarily for themes - haven't purchased any myself.

Thanks, I might give it another try. Last time I asked the developer, he said it wasn't possible (despite other apps being able to).

I use Textra. So far so good on all points.
I get to reply from the watch as well as mark as read.

I have that one, but was looking for a text app, with canned reply. I found Google messenger. It's a ripoff off Textra just with fewer options.
