[Q] K9 send Mail using alias stopped working? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There seems to be a new "bug" or whatever, in these later "upgraded" versions of K9. My home internet/email provider doesn't allow using their smtp while on another network. So far, it hasn't been a problem, since K9 allows sending via smtp of choice, with as many aliases as you want. Now, suddenly, no other smtp seem to accept sending email via alias. So far, I've tested Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail & Mail.com. Same result - "server doesn't allow aliases", or else it works, but the smtp change sender email back. What gives? Have all smtp providers suddenly stopped accepting this? Hard to believe. I suppose it must have something to do with the later versions of K9. Anybody else experience something similar? Any input would be appreciated....

Am I really the only one using K9 aliases/other smtp:s here? Or does it work for everybody else?

Exchange SP2 Push Mail Providers

Hi all,
Just upgrading to new Imate ROM. Now it seems that Universal has push email can anyone recommend an Exchange SP2 direct push email provider for consumer market? Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Tom C (UK)
The onlyone I know for the moment is 4smartphone.net - if you find any better (means cheaper), let me know!
Some report are saying 4smartphone.net takes 30 seconds to push an email to your device, rather than 5 seconds or less that others are getting via their own exchange servers.
Its worth asking these website exchange account providers what frequency they run the push 'heartbeat' at - you might end up with a big bill if they haven't set the Exchange/firewall to a reasonable rate.
Device SMS Address
I've just signed up for the 4smartphone trial, but Orange are completely unable to tell me what the Device SMS Address should be. They don't have a clue what this is about. I was guessing [email protected], but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what it should be?

If you're using the aku2 rom then you don't need an sms address. The MSFP/Direct Push works via http not sms. Waaaaaay better!
Settings
I think it is that version. I'm using the new ROM version 1.30.68 with Radio version 1.09.00. I can see the push mail icon in Comm Manager, but it's greyed out, so I'm not sure where to go from here. The 4smartphone support pages are not exactly informative.
Can anyone point me to a website about setting this up? My searches are not getting me far.
Thanks.

Got it working
Just need to ignore the instructions on the 4smartphone web page about SMS Device.
From the moment of clicking send on my Desktop to the email arriving in my device inbox the time taken is about 25 secs, which includes gmail forwarding it to the 4smartphone address.
4smartPhone Help!!
Glad to hear that you got the SMS problem sorted which help me out too. I can now sync with contacts but what do I do for the email. Do I have to set an account up on WM5 which I have done but there is no push coming through I have to manually send and receive. Any help much welcome. Thanks
You need to set it up using active sync in WM5. You will need to add a server (secure.4smartphone.net) then your username, password and domain (4smartphone). It will then sync using the GPRS connection.
I've got Outlook desktop, Outlook Web Access (with smartphone) and Outlook on WM5 all synchronizing nicely. My only problem is that I have three pop email account on Outlook desktop, but 4smartphone only seems to work with one.
And just to add the obvious, you need to have email being forward to the address that you got @smartphone.com

4Smartphone.net are US based, where email to SMS is very common. It took the Americans about three years to wake up to the fact that everyone else in the world has to pay for SMS messages to be sent - hence the new push technology from Microsoft.
What they are referring to is a feature known as AUTD (always up to date) which is how Exchange used to do push. A specially created SMS text message would be sent to your phone which told your device that something had changed, and it would then do a sync.
I am told that it worked very well - it is just unfortunate that for everyone outside of the USA the feature would cost many thousands to run for each single user.
Simon.
4smartPhone Help!!
Thanks for your quick reply. I have forwarding set up and all the correct settings for Active Syn in WM5, UserName, Password, Domain and Save password. Under the Options in ActiveSync there now appears and Exchange Server with the following selected Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail, Tasks.
I'm still not sure though what to do with the email all the above are syncing via 3g. In the Messages section do I have to create a new account and if so what are the correct setting for this?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
Tom C.
When it syncs with the Exchange server it automatically goes into the Outlook email inbox on your device. If you've previously been synchronizing with the desktop it wipes out those emails, which is why I'm trying the Pro version of 4smartphone and synchronising all three.
Have you checked if test emails you are sending are reaching the 4smartphone email address? You can do that by logging into the web version of Outlook via the link on their website.
Also the push email icon in Com Manager should now be working and it will say Microsoft DirectPush at the top.
That may not be much help, but I am also completely new to this.
4smartPhone
Once again thanks for the help. Just about got it sorted as I read your reply. The missing link for me is that the you don't have to sent up a seperate email account I was looking for server addresses extra but all those go under ActiveSync. Getting mails fine now but not too sure yet about sending them. Are yours sending fine or is there a delay?
Thanks again, you are still once step ahead of me
I've got Push email working with mail2web.com and have a few questions:
I've gota couple of email addresses that won't forward to my mail2web email account and I don't really want to use mail2web's harvester as that only checks once every hour, so I was wondering whether it's possible to set Outlook on my PC to synce with my mail2web account so that my PC will download emails from my POP accounts, then upload them to my mail2web server, which then pushes the emails to my phone?
Or is there a simpler way to do it?
Also, when I reply to an email that's been pushed the reply address is always my mail2web email address, which is a pain as it confuses people and gets rejected by my email groups. How can I change the default address that my replies go from, or even just change them on each email as I reply?
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.! Cheers.

[Q] POP BB email works, android email doesn't

I'm coming off a Blackberry curve 8300 and i was able to send and receive my company's email via POP3/SMTP just fine.
On my Android phone, i've never been able to get my company's SMTP to work on the e-mail program on the phone.
There's nothing complicated about the setup. mail.company.com for in and out servers, ports 110/25, no SSL, no log-in required.
any suggestions?
How can you run POP without a login? How would the POP server know who was asking to collect his|her mail?
read again. outgoing mail server is not working. i can receive my mail without issues. sending mail is the problem...
does it help to know it runs off an Exchange server?
I know nothing about Exchange, sorry.
found my answer.

[Q] POP3 Email will not work!?!

Just came from bb to the G2 and love the phone, however i cant seem to get my work email to connect. I set the username, password, pop3 server, ports, and made sure everything matches correctly. It all goes through like it should work.....and then nothing. When i send test emails and click on "load more messages" i get nothing. Any ideas why this isnt working?
Not sure if this matters, but i am running miui 2.3.4 - 1.5.6
Ok so i can send emails just fine from this account. Seems like it is just the incoming server. Did a double check and everything matches in the account settings with what is on my outlook account. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
I had some problems getting the stock email app to work as well. I switched to K9 Mail (its free in the Market) and that works just fine for me.
Tried K9 and still no luck. Anyone else have success with a pop3 email account on the G2, or android in general? Thanks.

[Q] K-9 Mail and GoDaddy IMAP Servers

I know this probably applies to a very narrow audience to begin with, but is anyone else having issues getting emails pushed to their phone/K9 Mail from GoDaddy hosted imap accounts? I've used K9 for my work email account for over a year now and never had any issues, emails would get pushed to my phone almost immediately after being received on our GoDaddy hosted imap account. However, about a week or so ago, I noticed that I would get Outlook desktop notifications well before I would get the same email pushed to my phone. After observing this behavior for the past week and testing a few things out, I've narrowed it down to either the way K9 Mail interacts with GoDaddy's mail servers, or GoDaddy's mail servers themselves.
On my phone, I set up two imap accounts in K9, one a gmail imap account and the other my work imap account (hosted by GoDaddy). I sent a single email addressed to both the gmail account and the work account and every single time I did this test, the email would be pushed to the gmail account almost immediately, whereas it would take at least 15 minutes for the same email to be pushed to my work account. This happens on both wifi and 3G/4G, which rules out network configurations as being the root cause of the problem.
As much as I would like a solution to this problem, I'm more curious as to whether anyone else has noticed this problem, and if so, they can perform the same test described above to see if they get the same result.

I had the same problem and had to upgrade my app. Made by the same people who made k9, there's an app called kaiten. That worked like a champ. Hope that helps! I had to switch for my email coming from my graphic design business.
Thanks for the reply. I've tried out several apps that include push support, including Kaiten, with the same results. The problem is either with K9 and the way it works with GoDaddy's email servers, or GoDaddy itself. I'm sure there's 0 chance of finding out which one since both can just blame it on the other.
Solution
Just wanted to follow up and not leave this thread hanging in case someone else runs into this issue, but the problem has been pinpointed and resolved. It turns out that when when you set the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net for GoDaddy-hosted email accounts, there are a total of four physical mail servers available and you are randomly assigned to one of them for access when you establish your imap connection. Two of the servers support imap idle ("push" email) and two do not, which is why sometimes push email works and other times it does not. It depends one which server you end up at when establishing the connection. To remedy this problem, instead of setting the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net, which will land you at one of the four GoDaddy mail servers, enter one of the two mail server IPs that DO support imap idle: 72.167.82.19 and 97.74.135.193
One thing to keep in mind is that on the off chance that the IPs for GoDaddy email servers change, you will obviously not be able to establish a connection and will need to reconfigure your email settings with the correct server address.
Full credit to Ashley Willis for finding the root cause and providing the solution, and Bernhard Redl for troubleshooting the issue as well, both of whom are devs for the K9 mail app.

Thank you for this as i have been searching high and low for a solution
so my company is hosting on godaddy and i got an email account with them i need for business, can you confirm this is still working? I will make the changes in my settings now and check to see if it works, what are your other settings?
I dont want to set my phone to check at set intervals every 1 minute is too much but what i need (ie push) but even every 15 minutes is too burdensome.
Would you mine running me through the settings for your phone?
btw im using the full paid version of aqua mail just recently and if there is a better app i can just refund this one and get another that will work. thanks
---UPDATE---
I tried editing my settings the first IP 72.167.82.19 would not take saying something about an incoming server error, the second one (97.74.135.193) did work but I am not receiving my emails until the 15 minute interval, Has anyone found a solution to this yet? or switching email providers is only way?
I've been using the 97.74.135.193 address for a nice long while now so I can't comment on whether or not the 72.167.82.19 is working still. It's possible GoDaddy has changed that mail server's address. After having used this "solution" for almost a year now, I can say that it works most of the time as far as pushing emails immediately to my phone as soon as they hit the mail server. What I've noticed is that when I'm on 3G, it will work as it should all the time, but sometimes when I get back to work and connect to the office wifi, my emails will only arrive at the set polling intervals.
My settings are as follows:
Incoming Mail
Username: user@domain.com
Pass: ************
IMAP Server: 97.74.135.193
Security: SSL (always)
Authentication: Plain
Port: 993
Auto-detect IMAP namespace: (checked)
Show only subscribed folders: (unchecked)

Outgoing Mail

Thank you for this, I am on my way off the work so ill have to check the actual settings again at lunch but so far with the same server, im not getting push, still taking 15 or 30 minutes to receive even though i have check intervals at 15 minutes.
Should i be talking to aqua mail or godaddy or both?
this is boggling my mind.
I hear ya, it sucks and it's frustrating. Like I mentioned before, I'm using the 97.74.135.193 address right now at work and I can tell my emails are being pushed correctly because I'm receiving them within a minute of the "sent" time stamp and well before the email is picked up on Outlook on my desktop.
I haven't used aqua mail before, so I couldn't tell you how to get in touch with some support staff. I can tell you it was a hassle to get in touch with the K-9 devs and ended up taking a month or two and multiple emails before I got a response. Best of luck trying to get an answer from GoDaddy. I tried calling support with zero luck and started making some noise in the forums about it (http://support.godaddy.com/groups/email/forum/topic/imap-email-not-being-pushed-to-phones/) with no luck. Ultimately, GoDaddy says they don't support IMAP Push/Idle function, even though it had worked consistently for about a year and now only works intermittently. Let me know if you have further success or find something new that works.

so you are using the paid version of the K-9 email app correct?
I will give that a try because aquamail is not working like that, i am receiving emails when my app checks in 15 minute intervals, but i dont want the phone to keep checking like that
UPDATE**************
EVeryone use Kaiten, i wasted money on Aquamail, doesnt work properly, Kaiten just pushed, will try again and report throughout next couple days, but first email pushed right away!
I am so happy, thank you AwkwardBarnacle for all your help!
I'm currently using the free version of K-9 Mail (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&hl=en), which is without a doubt the best mail app I've come across. I've used several different hosts on this app and the only one that doesn't always push mail as it should is GoDaddy. I would definitely recommend trying it out. The link up there is for the marketplace app, but you can download the newest updates from the developers' page: https://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
I'm currently using 4.508 and it's totally stable. Haven't run across any problems yet.

Interesting, for me, both k-9 and aquamail did not work for godaddy push email, but kaiten seems to be working "eventhough godaddy doesnt support" I dont know what is right anymore, but all i know is i press the button on my computer and send a test email from my gmail account and i hear my phone beep before i lift my phone off my mouse (well within 2-4 seconds.) Aquamail and k-9 were not able to do it. maybe i wasnt getting the settings right for k-9, but i definitely didnt have to do anything with kaiten, worked immediately. Plus the UI for kaiten is much cleaner than K-9 and aquamail is just awful and hard to read.
**UPDATE***
k-9 does work with the server as awkwardbarnacle suggested, it was not working before when i was using the imap.secureserver.net that is listed in godaddy support and what they recommend over the phone.
aquamail is confirmed to NOT work however, even with the new server configuration. so its up to user preference. between kaiten and k-9, both work.

[Q] POP3 email sending issue

Tried searching but could not find anything useful.
I've set up my POP3 email many times on all of my HTC phones. Today i got myself the Note 2 and did my usual email set up but am having issues trying to send emails out. It just keep failing. Anybody else came across this issue?
What other email app would you recommend similar to the stock email app? K9 email is way too complicated for me
Im new to android but after reading people suggest me to use maildroid from the google store and works very well for me
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Thanks. Really wish the damn default email client works Am using AquaMail. Seems ok so far.
Hey Buddy,
It probably isn't your email client, more than likely your settings. If your network is o2, go into your settings and change your SMTP settings to smtp.o2.co.uk and port 25. This should enable you to send email whilst on 3G at least. Ideally you can just add your network's smtp setting and have that as well as your email provider's too.

Thanks for your reply but it's weird that i can get go email, aqua mail and a couple more other email clients to work but not the stock mail. I've had a string of HTC phones and never had settings issues until now. I've tried port 25, 26 and 587. Tried with different security settings like SSL and stuff but still no go.
I'm guessing i'm the only one facing this problem
