I'm glad I didn't buy mine online! Well, I ordered online, but picked up in-store.
First one, white. Awesome! Except a small smudgy area of light on the screen, only visible on dark-ish to black backgrounds. Screen fault
I went back into Carphone Warehouse, and they had one white One X left. Yay!
Checked the screen before I left, and it had a dead pixel.
Decided to look at the grey version, and it didn't look awful, so I went for that.
Dead pixel
And another grey one with a dead pixel!
I ended up walking out of the shop with the fifth phone I tried that day - the fourth grey version. That was the first one without any screen issues. They only had two One Xs left in the shop after that. They seemed as pissed off with me at the quality control.
I'm loving the phone - I think it's fantastic - but make sure you spend 20seconds checking the screen if you buy it in-store. Might just save you a lot of hassle.

I think you're what they call a nightmare customer
90% of phone users wouldn't know what a dead pixel is, let alone look for it.

If I noticed a dead pixel it would drive me crazy. Id have to take it back as well.

You know that display manufacturers specify that a certain NUMBER of pixels must've failed before the screen is classed as failed don't you? I suppose they don't tell the sales monkeys that!

Haha same, the dark burn-like marks on some S2s (like mine ; I read that its actually the adhesive they use).
But thanks op, I was going to get mine online but CPW it is... nothing like annoying them right

Ha! I think if they see me walk into the store again they'll probably run away.
They were great about it though - I knew some manufacturers have a certain threshold when it comes to returns and dead pixels, but I said, "if it was a £60 phone, I wouldn't be too bothered, but for £500 I want all pixels present & correct!"
No-one tried to argue that it was a minor issue, so fair play to the CPW chaps. For me, dead pixels are maddeningly annoying - once you've seen one you can't un-see it. Just thought I'd post a heads-up in case people were buying in a shop and not checking the screen first.
I won't be able to get the amount of cash back on the deal I want if I go into a store.. which pretty much means no quality control for me. I have always done it, with my HD2, Desire and my SGS. Got to do it though! There's nothing worse than watching a film, gets to a dark scene and theres some red dot sitting there staring at you Especially if your One X is going to be your precious for the next few years
First one i got had a dead camera now i have a white one everything is fine.

I got mine a few days ago and lo and behold I have a dead pixel in the top left hand corner of the screen.
I have tried all the pixel fixing Apps to no avail.
Contacted Handtec and now am awaiting their reply. Fingers crossed I get a replacement quickly as I have now given my old desire away.
Rob
I will buy mine in a Swisscom shop (I already have a contract but I'm able to choose my phone "later" to get a discount). I ask myself if they will be as understanding as other shops. I mean - they already got the contract signed, they couldn't care less if the phone was bad or not - they don't make that much money anyway as I will get it for around 250-300CHF. I will wait for some more weeks I think and probably also ask them if I can test it directly in the store and whether they would replace it or not and probably also explain why I am that cautious (many reports of faulty devices on the interwebz). Let's hope for the best!

Well, buying off the Internet has its advantages too, thanks to the Distance Selling Regulations, with regards to the Cooling Off Period. It states that if you haven't met the seller face to face, and you're not happy with the goods, you have the right to change your mind within 7 days of receiving it. Notify them in writing (email is good) and send it back. Know your rights people.
Just received mine today and one dead pixel, in the middle of the screen!
Phone up O2, they are sending a brand new phone to my local O2 store on Thursday, take my faulty one day old HTC One X to them tomorrow.
If this replacement has or develops a faulty screen I shall be taking it back, cancelling my contract and demanding a full refund for the upfront payment!
Cannot believe I have him mine last then 24 hours and a screen fault has occurred!
@BeciMester regarding this post with the cooling off period. (Cannot post links because of eight post rule)
If it goes over the 7 day period and the fault appears again, am I entitled to cancel my contract and receive the refund or will I be fully tied in then stuck in the loop if/when other replacements start acting up?
If that is the case then I may just cancel tomorrow and wait for the S3. I cannot be doing with a scenario like wilkomints has had/having, I would be on the verge of killing someone!

Been contemplating sending mine back due to the battery life but when I read things like this I realise it's best I wait it out for the OTA.
My phone is perfect from a hardware point of view. No yellow taint, no dead pixels, no creaking or rattling.
Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of just going into a shop because I bought online. :-(

Hi, I had to create this topic outta utter frustration and annoyance. Well my device was having a charging problem (it was taking long time to charge) and I submitted it to the nearest service center here (Divine Electro Solution, Calcutta, India) on 14th this month. Next day they called me and said the charger is the culprit (but they wasn't sure about that!) and they'll replace it. So I went to take my phone on last Saturday and they handed me the device with the new charging adapter (they didn't change the cable). As soon as I looked at the phone I was . The main screen had at least 6 or 7 very prominent scratches, kind of things which could be only done by keys, or razors, that if you scratch them pretty badly on the screen. I said what have you guys done to the screen? They said, they don't know! They sent the phone to head office and they might have done that. They were pretty sure that I would take the phone, but I wasn't gonna, why would I accept a scratched device while I gave them an almost brand new and shiny one? Anyway, they said I will get it back on Monday, with the front LCD replaced (or the glass maybe), so today I called them and they said there is no spare parts available and they don't know how long would it take. This annoyed me. Well it's not that I've given them a scratched one and they could take all the time on earth, it's their damn responsibility. Anyway, I asked how long could it take and said to do it asap, but they said, they can't tell me any time frame and I could take my device back as it is now and come back when the LCD/glass is available to replace it. Well I am not doing that, because I know as soon as they give me the device they will not hold any sort of interest for any further process. So I didn't take it.
I emailed this incident to the complaint section of Samsung, sent the same copy to Executive board too, and got a reply also, saying,
This is to acknowledge the receipt of your concern and also to inform that the same has been highlighted to the Executive Escalation Team( CEO's Desk).

Well I don't know if they will do anything or not, I sent the mail on Saturday and till today they didn't contact my local SC or HO that's for sure. There isn't a helpline number in their website where I could reach them and tell my issue.
Anyway, what you guys think I should do? Should I just wait more or do something? It's been a week now they are holding the device, and don't know for how long more they have intended to!
Thanks in advance.
PS: Forgot to say how stupid these SC guys are, they told me on Sat after giving me the new charger that this phone should take 5 hours if not more to charge completely, as it has a bigger battery. I, just to make sure they were complete stupids and brainless asked, how big is the battery? They said, it has 2500 mAh battery and a 2A charger should charge it in 5 hours
I never had a pathetic experience like this with any brand previously, be it Nokia, hTC or Apple.
Thats cos samsung are noobs stick t0 google.or.htc in my opinion although the note 2 is best on market

I can understand your frustration. There will be an officer for every city to check whether the service centre guys or behaving properly or not. Better get hold of that guy. Anyway you have contacted the executive section right, tell them you will accept the phone only if they provide brand new or replace the screen including glass. Otherwise you can sue them in consumer court and claim more damages more than 1 lakh. Better wait for the new piece.

Well I am talking with 'that' guy from day 1 and what amuses me that a section manager knows nothing about Note 2! He keeps saying it's a new device, no one knows much about it! I mean in what earth a more than 7-8 weeks old device is 'new' device. His and his total groups lack of knowledge amaze me.
Update: At 10 am today I got a call from Samsung HO and they made a conference call and connected me with that guy with whom I was talking from very first. Same crap he said again, unknown period of time due to lack of parts availability. Nonsense.
So this is their solution, I think they just found a new feature in phones, and that is conference calling.
I am so ashamed. Ashamed on myself, that I purchased this phone.

You should be asking for a replacement phone, not for repairs. It takes the whole 'we dont have parts available' issue out of the argument. This is their error, not yours. Insist on a new device.
Tell them if you don't have the parts, replace the phone.

I would DEMAND a new phone!
only iphone has a total replacement policy n thus the price:
well i had a camera issue with note 1 on the very first week,i hd rooted the phone but helpfully(xda) there was unroot,n i gave the phone to the service centre it took them 7 days to replace my front camera, but all was well, and yes availability of parts for a newly released device is hard.the person who inspected my device said front camera is only for video chatting that was the noobest reply i got, have a patient i hv a gult feeling ur problem will be solved.and as far as htc n google are concerned there have very small bussiness foot print in india,so samsung is a good choice for indians
I had huge bubbles under the gorilla glass so i gave it to sabsonic service center ( kolkata ).it was a 1 week old set with 0 scratches.they replaced the display and added more or less 5 scratches to screen and 15-20 scratches on back cover ( yeah back is ruined ) and few dents to the metal lining on sides.i asked them for an explanation, they said they dunno about it. if your issue is resolved, kindly update here.
I second you telling them to give you a new device. Either they fix it now, or they give you a new phone and you'll give back the parts. It's unacceptable that THEY mess up your phone and give it back, and then don't have the parts to change it... Fine... It's a new device, no new parts yet, but then give you a new phone to replace the busted up one!
You went in for a new CHARGER
and now you have to walk out with a NEW PHONE because THEY messed up!

I called them yesterday and they said come and see, we have changed the 'Gorilla Glass' (the pronunciation made me laugh hard), see if you are satisfied. I went and checked the screen thoroughly and there was NO scratch and they indeed changed the front glass. But yea, there were two or three small dents at the metallic border, and the back cover is scratched as well, but this isn't my iP5, so I didn't give a damn at that plastic.
But for the issue I submitted the device, that was long charging problem, it is NOT resolved. Device is still taking same time like before. Now I am gonna try with a different charger or cable, and if it's not good I will ask them to replace the device.
One thing I did learn, these service center guys should go back to school and learn ABCD first, but I doubt that, because I don't think they have any better IQ than Forrest Gump.
i talked with them regarding exchange, they said " sorry we don't do that, we only replace faulty parts "
So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

That's all good and stuff. . but it's the hardware that is failing this device. All these defects. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone. However this is not okay for me and shouldn't be acceptable for anyone else.
I just want my phone to work as intended.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Is the replacement with T-Mobile or asurion? Or another private insurance..I remember with my wifes note4 they gave us a new phone right there in the store..and it was past the 15 days return policy...but then again it was Verizon not T-Mobile

Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).
Okay so after using my phone for some time I noticed that I've been having a gradual pinkish gradient on the left side of the screen that slowly creeps to the right. At first I was like, nah it's not me even family was like "I don't see anything." Two people I know while getting my haircut looked at at the screen without me saying anything and asked "is it supposed to be slightly pinker on the left?" I was like "I knew it wasn't me."
Needless to say, I know this is possible with amoled, but how often can you get a uniform screen?
On my s6, it took me 6 returns to get an "acceptable" phone. When i upgraded to a note5 i got a flawless perfect screen the first try.
Now im scared to upgrade....
Btw all my phones were from vietnam. 4 of my friends all haelve korean samsungs and they lucked out with all good screens the first time.

Know exactly what you mean.
Why do we have to play the screen lottery with these new phones?
Back when I had my S2, ended up returning it 3x to get a good screen.
My G2 took 4 returns for various reasons and my recent G3 screen went on the fritz within the first 6 months.
Now I have one with a perfect screen I'm selling bc of the Note 4 only to received a Note 4 with screen tint...sigh

Im returning mine today, also got the pink tint which was not there during purchase.
Got the same exact problem. I want to get it replaced it as well. Is it at their own discretion? Can they refuse to change the device? Is the replacement a new device or refurbished? I've bought my device from UAE what about you'llhttps://s17.postimg.org/kzxexdv33/photo_2016_08_29_20_30_35.jpg

They can refuse to exchange it if its passed the return period. They can even refuse during, but then I just threaton to return it outright.
After the return period, its up to them, some may exchange or give you a loaner and send it out to Samsung to look at.
So after 7 replacements all for various different issues listed here on XDA I have decided to return the phone instead of getting an 8th replacement. I am going to try my luck with a Oneplus 5t.
Any-who my question is this...
Has anyone returned there phone after getting a credit for selling the OG Pixel to Google? Did you get a full refund of the original selling price or the difference?
I hear 8th time's a charm. You gave up too early.
You should probably just keep replacing them until the 3rd pixel comes out, then repeat the process in perpetuity.
7 replacements?
lol
you just didnt like the phone. its ok
not all phones are for everyone. good luck with your 1080p screen

Could you list the reasons why you returned each one? I mean.. 7! My first one came with 2 dead pixels on the screen but my second one has been fine for other a month now. I know it has a blue tint thing going on but that's just AMOLED technology and you will find that on every OLED phone.
What is exactly wrong with these phones you guys are returning? I don't really get it. Mine works and looks fine.
I'm ok with mine and the first reason for me not buying 5t is its 1080p screen.

I loved the phone or I would have giving up after the 2nd one. I really tried to make it work. And I know a 1080p display isn't ideal but it is only temporary until the next flagship phone is released.

This is to the best of my knowledge.
1. Blue tint was horrible
2. Brown lines going across the center of the display
3. Dead pixels
4. Dead pixels
5. Phone kept rebooting
6. Phone kept rebooting
7. The display randomly turns on for 1ms and flashes. Happens several times per min.
I might have these in the wrong order but it's close enough.
#7 was the best phone I had received and was perfect up until a few days ago. When I called Google about it they said it was a know issue and they are working on it.

Almost sounds like they kept returning the same phone to you. What a Charlie Foxtrot of epic proportions. Sorry man
I'm on my 4th... first one was a bad battery drain even in safe mode, 2nd and 3rd I had bad burn in and now the 4th wont take the January update. Been waiting a week for them to figure out whats wrong. Just says installation problem between steps 1 and 2, I enrolled in the beta to see if that helps and now phone says its up to date in the Dec 5th patch so no idea whats going on with it.

Google will only issue you Google Store credit for your trade in. I went through 5 before I called it quits.

I already received my refund for my trade in months ago. I just want to make sure I was going to receive a full refund for the phone. Google's answer wasn't 100% clear.

You will receive a credit for the actual amount that was charged to your card.
I guess it's just luck
My manufacturers or build or what it is called date is of 14 oct or so and except that blue tint which is evident and it's slow charging about 2h 45min fro 10 to full i had no complaints
2nd day got the swift black theme and gone the blue tint to an extent lol
Still coping up with slow charging as i was spoiled by dash charge
Cheers ?
