Why not try an external micro SD?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

I don't think you can root your device with a jig, but the jig can help you if you mess up trying to do something to your device. But as far as rooting it, you might need to use ODIN.

Put the files needed to flash to obtain root on an external and flash. Sorry thought it was self explanatory.

So how would a jig do any good of you have a bad mini port?
There is a method to root by using terminal emulator and some files.
Look for it.
Its not hard.

I'm not quite familiar with mobile Odin. But flash a stock image that has twrp in it. Through mobile odib. Cwm is too buggy.

Its not hard to replace.
I've replaced my mic, camera, power button, and proximity sensor all for under 30$
The S3 is EASY to take apart and replace parts. Just try it. 2$ spent is way better over 200$

Ah completely forgot about the root aspect. I believe there is a way to do it through a terminal emulator. But I know none of the specifics.

WHAT???
Why would you do it then? Theyre pretty much telling you "If we do a s*** job its not our fault"
you should of gone somewhere were they were going to give you some king of warranty and someone who knows what theyre doing.
Thats a load of BS..... i apologize for the language but this is a risk you too that you shouldnt of taken. now youre left with a bas UBS port.
this is all i can think of, that will be the best bet

Nah they said that after they install the part,, before, they told me the price and that they can fix it. So $60 + $150 = $210 ouch!! thats what i was afraid of im willing to sell it or exchange it for another one with someone but anyway i still have hope on a dev to make this happend for the i747 there is a lot of devices that can root without a computer

That ebay motherboard has everything working. All you would need to do is swapp out the motherboads.
(this is just connecting and disconnecting a few connectors)
its 150$ plus free shipping. its not bad and probably the cheapest if no one comes up with a way to root with out PC

haha thanks everyone and no they didnt offend me at all cause im not a noob but im also not a developer, i just cant get my phone into download mode because of the usb port malfunction i actually didnt know it was bad at the the time only because it still charged and what not but i traded an HD2 for it and was done messing with it, i wanted something new and its going to be new to me also installing this usb port haha so wish me luck i also bought one of those usb jigs off ebay to hopefully get me into download mode, everytime i use my cable it goes straight into stock recovery if it wasnt for that i would be flashing away! ive tried everything getting it into DL mode, also ive tried getting it warrantied but tmboile says ive had too many exchanges ha so im SOL on that one, i had the g2x before the hd2 and suppovsevly according to them its my fault they kept sending me POS phones esp since the g2x has been EOLed i mean cmon. they knew that phone had nothing but problems why still send it to people

No problem, also welcome to the community. Hope you are able to fix that usb.
One last thing though, now don't quote me on this, but I remember reading that using the usb cord from a g2x or I think any lg phone would get you into download mode. Not exactly sure how it worked, but I think you turned off the phone, connected the usb to the phone, then to the computer. And then power on the phone and it would take you to dl mode. Not 100% sure but you might want to look into that

To the OP, best of luck and let us know how it goes. There are DIY tutorials a well for usb port repairs.
And as for buying used phones, we must be careful. But otherwise, I say go for it. My SGS2 was purchased used via Craigslist and it's been running great with zero problems. I suggest everyone considering a used purchase visit the xda forum associated with the phone and see what kinds of problems/defects have been common with the phone so you will know what things to look for when you make the buy.

[Q] Bricked S3 with Red LED and seen by computer?

I just bricked my S3 and whenever I plug it in, eventually, some combination of button presses makes a red LED show up, however, no screen on. Whats even weirder is that when I plug it in, it see's some thing called QHSUSB_DLOAD, and attempts to install drivers for it. I'm wondering if this might allow me to fix it? If all else fails, can someone refer me to a JTAG repair service...
Edit - When I attempt DL mode, I can even hear it disconnect, then reconnect. It fails the driver install though.
Unfortunately bud your hard bricked.

All I did was brought it into the store, handed it to the guy and said it was broken. Said I had a FACTORY warranty (from Samsung), and that Samsung told me to have the store do the replacement for me. The guy behind the desk said, "Yeah, whatever you stick your SIM into, as long as it's T-
Mobile, your covered. You can even buy phones offline,". It's going to be here monday. Shipped Friday, next day shipping, only 5$. I'm so happy I'm not paying 70$ for a JTAG... Not sure if this'll work for everyone, but it did for me!

Depends on the insurance. Need more info. Also a diff between rooting and being caught rooting. If it is working enough for them to tell you rooted on a claim it is working enough to reverse before you send it in. Some insurance don't care either way.

Besides, if your really paranoid just tell them you dropped it in a lake, (It happened to me once).

Warranty yes, insurance no. Rooting voids your warranty, not your insurance. Insurance covers physical damage, so if you hard brick your phone, just to be safe you "accidentally" dropped it in the bathtub.

I think you'd win in small claims if Samsung denied you warranty because you rooted your device, assuming there is a product defect.
To be honest there's also a choice DONT ROOT. It seems like it's all new to you, and believe me Samsung phones are way easier to brick than LG or HTC if you don't read carefully. Look if it's worth the risk playing a android game with a ps3 controller or loosing your phone for a period of time. If you go ahead and do it make sure you BACK UP YOUR EMEI, many times that gets overlooked when it's really the most important thing in your phone.

Just read, read, read. Then read some more. Make sure you fully understand every possible thing that can go wrong (I.e. Losing imei) and how to fix it. If you know what can happen, and how it happens, you will know how to avoid those things. Never have the "I will cross that bridge when I get there" attitude. Almost everything that can go wrong is 100% preventable/curable if you know about it ahead of time. If you don't feel like you can explain to someone else how to root or fix their phone, you're not ready yet.

No problem haven't rooted mine and I rooted every other phone I have. I just feel android is android it all looks the same. Not much difference between roms apart from the speed with build props and bloatware free. While you can always prepared yourself 100 percent there's always that random encounter that you can get with electronics that is not your fault and just happens.

Yeah you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43724690 which many have had success with. Or you can send it somewhere to have Jtag repair. Jtag will run you about 60 dollars the method I linked is free but you have to know what your doing. Since you bricked your device I'm not sure if you would be able to complete the steps needed. Good luck.

[Q] Please help! Hard-bricked T999L

Hi, so I hard-bricked my S3 and I already tried using a jig and writing a de-brick .img to my ext. sd card, and neither worked so far. My phone remains completely unresponsive after I followed instructions on this site. The only response that my phone gives is a red light when it's connected to my pc or wall charger WHEN the battery is taken out, then the light disappears after several seconds. Also, my pc does recognize that something is connected, but then I get a bad connection sound after a few seconds. So far it seems that I tried every troubleshooting method on this site and I don't know what else to do. The last resort option I'm considering is sending my phone to a third party to get it de-bricked.
if you tried everything then probably a jtag is the only fix
