I know the screen, processor, etc is great...but i'm having doubts about all the radio issues (gps, signal, etc). I checked out the sprint forums and pretty much all of them were about gps and signal pretty much sucking. Are you guys having these issues with custom roms? Should i wait till the issues are cleared (or not)?
Signal is pretty good with custom roms
Idk about gps
I don't use it so often
But battery life is super amazing

new (SGSIIE4GT) user here, and loving (and I mean LOVING) this phone.
i'm not having those issue on stock, OOTB, even. (meaning, I am rooted, but still on the stock ROM, out of the box. I've only upgraded the modem, and no GPS/signal issues at all)
ever since kern/modem EK02 those were (mostly) non issues.
from what I read, most of the custom ROMs either only improve, or cause no worse.
and yes, CPU/GPU, RAM and storage (internal), screen, lack of Sense, all worth it.

I concur... This phone is SICK! Been through quite a few phones, and this one is bar none the best yet. Haven't had too many issues with the radio, but they are there. Roam control and the 1115 PRL pretty much fixed any issues that I was having though. The only reason I would maybe wait would be for the Galaxy Note, coming out relatively soon. But if you do decide to go with the E4GT you always have 14 days to return if you don't like it.
Phone is awesome. The signal issue is with sprint not the phone....imo. If you already have sprint and are happy you should be fine. Gps works great for me. I use it everyday.

I thought they still had a 14 day period where you could try it out and still able to return without penalty? If so, why not try it for a week or 2 and see for yourself?
Phone is amazing and I am truly happy with what I have.
So, no one has problems with GPS and loss of signal?
the phone is worth it. I love mine hands down my #1 of phones right now even over the GNexus. I've got a few friends that wish they had early upgrades wanting this thing that are stuck on Evo's
Edit.
As for LOS/GPS I had LOS when the phone first came out here and there but with the newer updates it's been fine I've yet to see a LOS sign on my phone. GPs I've never really had an issue with but I do know others have I just have not run into it.
I got my phone 1 Dec and have never had a LOS once. I play "Life is Crime", multiple times a day, which requires GPS and have never had an issue.

No GPS issues and no LoS here... great phone. Super fast and slick. Do the upgrade, you won't regret it.
Wait for the GSIII.
This phone will be surpassed soon. Also the Galaxy Note may come out for us.

... the problem with waiting is you will get stuck in an endless loop of waiting. I agree this phone since the updates is now solid. at release it was iffy. but they were mainly software bugs.

Wait (at least) 6+ months for possibly a new "better" device that will have almost no dev roms?
No thanks.

I'm loving this phone too! As you can see in my sig, I've owned many Android phones. This is the best one yet. No signal problems here. I haven't used GPS on it yet though since I got a stand alone one ...
No problems for me at all, for the past 4 months. (That's how long I've had it so far)
It was a transition from my former iPhone 4. I love it greatly. No LoS for me ever, but I do have problems with GPS here and there. Although, as of recent, it's been able to pinpoint where my location is and such.
Have been using Blazer ROM on it as well. I don't think I'd have it any other way. And with counterparts coming out (GSII Skyrocket/Note/etc.) I don't find myself WANTING those handsets. That's how awesome the phone has been to me, I just don't see a need to get anything else than this.
I've had NO problems with this phone. It's great, actually one problem and thats battery life. But thats because i use way too much (i just got an extended battery so that issue was solved). =D!!!! GET IT NOW!!!!
I decided on getting this phone. I had the Epic 4g so i am familiar with roms, kernels , and such. I actually would have stayed with the Epic if I wouldn't have dropped and broken it, but since I have an upgrade I might as well get an upgrade. I honestly thing a single core 1ghz proc was fast enough. A dual core 1.2ghz will last me years. Thanks for all the input!

Awesome! Welcome to the family...
No GPS or LoS here.
Did have some low signal issues in my house but a free airave solved that.
If I were you, and depending on when the Nexus comes out for Sprint, I would wait for that. LTE support and more update support. Although the hardware on the Nexus apparently is lacking compared to this.
Regardless I'm very happy with this phone.
I've had this phone since the first day is was available and its pros far outweigh its negatives. 4G reception is great, but 3G is not as good as it was on my Optimus S. Battery life is fantastic.
First of all, I absolutely LOVE ICS. I'm even getting a nexus to have AOSP ICS. It's great, but not on this phone. I ran it for 4 days and I am glad I did, but no more. I just want to explain why.
First of all: the camera. While everything but recording WORKS, it does not WORK WELL. The autofocus is awful, and I struggle to take a picture I would take in a second with skyraider. The pictures also are often very grainy. Now, as of AOKP, camcorder works, and flash works on Angel Camera. Everything about the camera works.
Second: Apps. I'm not talking about the ICS apps. They are incredible. On our phone though, many apps I love, like temple run , as well as others crash or just don't work. Some apps just have lots of FC's.All apps except for temple run that I use have no issues now.
Third: Battery life (depends on ROM). On AOKP, the battery life is absolutely abysmal. However, it is wonderful on the Nexus, which is why it is strange to me. I have many media wakelocks, and other issues. Getting amazing battery life with build 31 of AOKP with aero's v9 kernel.
Fourth: Stability. Just today, my gallery decided to stop working. Before, I have had random lockups, a mess of FC's and many other things. For me, it's very important to have whatever feature I need, when I need it. Not in 5 minutes, not in a hour. If I need to take a picture, I need to take one. If I need to check a website, the browser had better not start force closing. If I need to download an app, the Play Store had better not crash 5 times. Twice today, my phone decided to just have a black screen when getting a phone call, and I couldn't answer them. I have not had any issues with ICS stability on this build or the last couple of aero's.
Note though, that I am not saying that YOU shouldn't run ICS. In fact, if you can, DO IT! Just I can't, sadly. The developers do an absolutely incredible job porting this stuff no thanks to HTC. I really want to thank them for that. I'll just be sticking with GB unless there's a leak for us. I just wanted to write this up, not sure why. Oh, well.
Now, ICS is amazing, and there is no reason anyone shouldn't run it, unless you are stuck on sense!
Party on Wayne!
I'm excited for ics, but until we get a good leak I don't see me using it for a while

Are you getting a nexus one(good battery), nexus s(also good battery, or a galaxy nexus( the battery is so bad it can't keep up with charge). Just wondering, I'd go for the nexus s if I didn't have a upgrade and I needed a new phone.
If I had an upgrade I'd get the rezound. I like soft keys(actually I don't like the red soft keys on the rezound, I like the ones on the dinc 2 better), even though are soft keys are a part of the touch screen. It's the fastest phone on the market, and it can take amazing pics. Not to mention the battery is good and development is plentiful. And its getting ics soon......
IDK why I wrote this

Huh, so the Galaxy Nexus has horrible battery. Let's see what an extended battery, franco kernel, and AOKP have to say about that. Oh, yeah, with stock battery and AOKP/franco, you get 3 hrs screen on time. Woops. And the Rezound is my least fav phone out of the "big 3". Now that has terrible battery life. I have a friend, you know the one that gave all the ICS leaks to the Rezound users? Yeah, him. He tried a Nexus and said the battery was amazing compared to his Rezound. Also, the Rezound is really thick, overheats, and has Sense 3.5/.6. Ugh.

I have to say. The battery on the ICS builds are not bad at all. I am running areos 31 build with stock kernel oc 1.2 and still have an all day battery with moderate usage. But to each his own.

I wish the op best of luck, but I hated the GN. Terrible battery life, awful looking screen and one of the worst radios I have ever used in a phone. The only thing good about it was that it ran ICS natively.

Agreed, running the same here, getting a solid 2+ days battery life with light/moderate usage. I don't take many pics so not too worried about the camera. Music FC's on me every now and again, but I haven't had a single hiccup or reboot otherwise.
I do wonder if it's possible (perhaps in an upcoming build) to lock the messaging app & launcher in memory, as sometimes the messaging app is slow upon initially launching.
I'm gonna give ics one more shot with build 29 of aokp

Well, I came straight from stock 2.3.3 to ICS. No other mods/roms of any kind. Been running for about 24 hours now and no problems at all. No lag, no force closes and no reboots. I have the 3500 mAh HTC battery and I've been heavily using it for these 24 hours and I've lost maybe 15%. When I say heavily, I mean drooling at the screen four hours. I'm amazed. At first I hated the video I seen of ics when it was first announced, I thought it was the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but im loving it rite now. I hope I can talk my bro in law out of this phone lol.

I'm having a lot of data issues with my HTC One S on T-Mobile US, so I'm thinking about getting an SIII. I can either do a warranty exchange on my One S but the SIII looks like it can outperform the One S so here I am.
I wanted to know if there have been any issues with the SIII? From the various threads I've seen, there doesn't appear to be any but I just wanted to ask current users. I'd like some input on:
stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
data connectivity (data network and wifi)
camera performance
battery performance
GPS performance
how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
any gotchas?
Also, what's the difference between the 2 development threads? Why is one called Original and the other is not?
Many thanks

stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
A. Amazing! The new touchwiz is smooth and very stable, it's partially the reason why I always go back to stock based roms.
data connectivity (data network and wifi)
A. It depends on where you live but I haven't had any issues with data at all, it's reasonably faster than it was on my Galaxy S2 so no complaints there!
camera performance
A. I think the camera is one of the best on the market, photo's are very sharp and clear from my experience.
battery performance
A. The battery on this device is good, I can make it through a day easily with moderate use.
GPS performance
A. I don't use GPS very much so I can't give you a good answer to that one but I haven't heard any complaints about it.
how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
A. My root experience was great, if you had a Galaxy S2 and rooted it, it's basically the same thing. If not it's still very basic if you follow the instructions correctly.
any gotchas?
A. Not sure what this means, if your talking about issues or something like that then I have one:
- The device can get warm from time to time when using data for long periods of time, other then that I haven't had any issues with phone.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a new phone!
Only problem I have is it warms up from heavy data use from time to time. Stock ROM was wonderful but I finally flashed cm10 last night to see how it is. I couldn't believe it but the phone became even faster Haha I highly recommend this phone
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Stock ROM: Nearly perfect. It's fluid. It's fast, it's useful. And you can switch most things on or off without rooting. You can get a newly Aosp experience without root.
Data: As good as any other recent phone. Data completely relies on where you live. The s3 will not give you any problems.
Battery: Good or very good. The phone lasts about 20 hours with moderate usage. It can easily hit 2 days with light usage. Jelly bean currently has no bugs but it does drain the battery slightly more than ics. Expect 17 hours average on jelly bean.
Gps: Best in class. Locks instantly, consistently within 20 seconds cold boot.
Rooting: Rooting is easy and takes 3 minutes.
CAMERA: Same as the iPhone 4s but i do believe the software is better. Pictures are some of the best for a smartphone. Only a few phones best it but it is not by much.
Other: Phone is ready for wireless charging of you want to solder 2 wires on it. Also, i have heard reports that the screen cracks on some drops so be warned and careful.
Overall. Super fast, super reliable, has bugless jelly bean,

I have the sgs3 and I absolutely love it. Was on stock form late July till about 2 weeks ago and it seemed to perform just fine. I'm not huge on the TouchWiz interface of the past but this one wasn't so bad. Was never at a loss for power even though we didn't get the Integra (le sigh). Here in Chicago the data is always smooth but I spend some time in rural WI, so up there it could be better but that is more local then phone performance related. The Camera was outstanding. Girlfriend has the HTC One S and she was a little jealous of the camera by comparison. I had a very smooth root transition and I did it about a week after I got the phone, now I can only imagine it will be smoother for you. Flashed to the cm10 nightlies and I have had a few issues but nothing that was major. Not to mention Cyanogen himself is developing on the T999 which is awesome. Only issues that I would be aware of is that when I rooted my phone there were some issues with people losing their IMEI... but that has mostly been cleared up if you search around the forums. I think it had something to do with people rooting for the international version instead of the US Carrier version. Not sure but I didn't encounter it. Best phone I have ever had. Like it even more then my old G2 that I refused to get rid of till it finally crashed.
Please don't get it.
The only issue I have had is the dirty looks from Apple fan boys

Stock works just perfect its stable and such however i notice that when data is turned on the phone gets a little bit hot but nothing too serious...
Battery life is okay 22hs unplugged and 3h30minutes screen on time ..
I dont see any major issues camera is really good in bright area but when it gets very dark whit no flash camera is taking pics whit lot of noise but its very responsive ..

You should be proud.. that you have a phone that doesn't break apart in the box during shipping.
My first S III had a dent in the metal beneath the battery and the second one had a significant scratch in the speaker grill. My third one was just assembled loosely or the pieces didn't fit together well so there were gaps in the seams under the battery cover and all three of these had poorly calibrated displays because white images appeared to be slightly yellow at times so I wouldn't poke fun at Apple if I were you...
4th one's the charm though. I'm happy with this one.

The GS3 is the best phone I have ever had. Don't have any problems. Only thing I miss is no FM radio.
Yes it leaks.
Best phone period.
Well, until the next big thing arrives
-stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
Rooting doesn't necessarily mean that you have to switch ROMs, but anyways, stock ROM seems to use a bit more battery than lets say CyanogenMod but other than that, I enjoy the motion controls on the stock rom. I always have better bars than my friends and everything works like a charm
- data connectivity (data network and wifi)
wifi and data both work well. one time I had a problem where data wasn't working that well but i fixed it by reverting back to stock kernel.
-camera performance
i love taking pictures with the camera. the features are pretty enjoyable too. my aunt really loves the "beauty" feature on the camera where it clears up blemishes and makes you look really nice 8D really enjoy being able to take pictures while recording video as well.
- battery performance
typical day I can get 4 hours of screen time in the full day. that is with some light gaming, lots of texting and some social networking. pretty good for a heavy user. my old phone nexus s, would always get low battery and I would have to watch my usage.
- GPS performance
before i switched carriers, I had unlimited data on mobilicity so that worked really well with the GPS. I could always locate myself and sometimes when I wasn't too sure about the area, i could pull up google maps and it would find where I am within seconds.
- how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
rooting the s3 was pretty simple. It just involved using Odin to flash a custom recovery and then installing superuser. it was a lot easier than my nexus s where I had to use adb and fastboot
- any gotchas?
there is the occasional lag and glitch here and there but then again after rooting you can't expect everything to run perfectly. hopefully you get the s3 and enjoy
So Ive had my t-mobile S3 for a few days now. Ive loved it so far, Ive only had it for a few days, so i have not rooted it yet or even looked at the dev section for custom roms. All my previous phones have been rooted and had custom roms, but have not had the chance or desire to do it/read up on it on my S3 yet...
Anyway, to my question. After I initially unlock the phone and am at the first home screen, when I go to swipe it either way to change screens, I have lag. After that initial swipe and lag I can swipe smoothly. Its just that first swipe that gives me lag. This is the most powerful device I've had, so I am surprised to see the lag. Im assuming its touchwiz and the phone probably takes a moment to ramp up the cpu? Im not against rooting and rom'ing it, just have not yet and wondering if others had this or noticed this issue while still completely stock? If so, are there any transitions or anything I can change, or do i just deal with it until I root it and throw on an awesome rom?
Thanks
It's just coming out of deep sleep and at q low CPU clock to save power. It's normal.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah you should relax while we all can admit TouchWiz Sucks its not that bad, Even having power saving on should not affect a little task like that. This phone is really fast stock so don't feel you need to root just because of that. Now if bloatware really bothers you, carrier IQ then you can go on and flash away.

thanks everyone. Ive had android since the beginning (well almost, mt3g). So I'm used to the lag that android sometimes has. but to be honest, i was really surprised to see it on this phone. I thought it was powerful enough hardware wise and the software tweaks (project butter act) that I was just surprised to see the lag (i know touchwiz slows it down). I've noticed a little more here and there...
Any way, glad to know its normal for this phone being stock, I just did not expect it. Guess Ill have to root it and play around with some custom roms to get that smoothness Im looking for
Yea I notice the lag on start up to but after a couple of seconds its good.
You know it's weird, I used to have the same issue, so I know exactly what you're talking about. But I don't have it anymore for some reason and I'm not quite sure when it went away. I flashed a stock rooted Jelly Bean rom to get root, but that's the only thing I've done to it.
Once you get past the little bit of lag...she is butter smooth....

So I've had my S4 since the 30th, pre-ordered it on the 29th at 3:00AM.
After using it now for about 5 days, I am pretty disappointed in the software. Basically none of the "COOL" features it has works very well, especially the head scrolling. Terrible...
The smoothness on the phone is so utterly inconsistent it bothers me till no end. 60 percent of the time, operations are silky smooth, 40 percent there is a motherload of lag. Simply closing an app will cause the animation to "stutter" as it closes. Sometimes swiping between screens will cause the phone to stutter, opening the camera sometimes is instant, sometimes it take a couple seconds! WTF that drives me insane on a phone that pulls in 12,000+ quadrant scores and wipes the floor with pretty much everything in antutu.
I blame Samsung, their TW is definitely not ready for prime time when skinned on top of 4.2.2. Seemed like a rush job to get the phone shipped with 4.2.2 so they can get the upper hand on the HTC One.
TW works absolutely flawless on 4.1 for example on the Note 2 and GS3, there was hardly a hint of lag on those phones. So what do you guys think? TW not ready for 4.2.2 or is it because it's not optimized for the new Snapdragon processor?
i had a s3 and a s2 and a s1 and all these problems people complained about was stil there. I dont remember tw being that fluid on my s3 i remember i couldnt wait to root it to add cm on it. A article i read said it best "Android phones have a reputation for customizability. And to a certain extent, they almost require tinkering to optimize the experience. Theres always gonna be something we dont like about our phones thats why we love to tinker and change it!
wasnt really rushed, just touch wiz isnt meant for performance as much as gimmicky features, which all work just fine for me.
Though the debloated wicked rom is enough to keep me happy for now. as soon as paranoid android or P.A.C drops for our phone im on them in a heart beat. I just need per app dpi to be happy, with any phone
Wicked rom speeds the lag up a bit and im sure things will only get better..
21k antutu score stock, 25k after wicked... Im sure an Oc kernel will help too

I actually think the software is rather well polished. The theme is still not my cup of tea, but whatever. Really the only few issues I have is with camera focus every once in a while and the little bit of stuttery animation which seems more like a governor/kernel issue than anything.
Phone is pretty awesome overall.

i sold my N4 for it as well; and also paid my ETF from ATT so i could move to tmobile.

I think it's pretty well done, the fact is the motion and smart camera tricks are always a little bit of a crap shoot, and they're so situational I can't really justify leaving them on to myself. So I just turn them all off, other than that I don't mind TouchWiz, it's very bright and cartoony, but I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily.
i do not think so
they will test it almost for long times, and someother funcition will be release to us in next OTA maybe, just as the apple doing.
