I know the screen, processor, etc is great...but i'm having doubts about all the radio issues (gps, signal, etc). I checked out the sprint forums and pretty much all of them were about gps and signal pretty much sucking. Are you guys having these issues with custom roms? Should i wait till the issues are cleared (or not)?
Signal is pretty good with custom roms
Idk about gps
I don't use it so often
But battery life is super amazing

new (SGSIIE4GT) user here, and loving (and I mean LOVING) this phone.
i'm not having those issue on stock, OOTB, even. (meaning, I am rooted, but still on the stock ROM, out of the box. I've only upgraded the modem, and no GPS/signal issues at all)
ever since kern/modem EK02 those were (mostly) non issues.
from what I read, most of the custom ROMs either only improve, or cause no worse.
and yes, CPU/GPU, RAM and storage (internal), screen, lack of Sense, all worth it.

I concur... This phone is SICK! Been through quite a few phones, and this one is bar none the best yet. Haven't had too many issues with the radio, but they are there. Roam control and the 1115 PRL pretty much fixed any issues that I was having though. The only reason I would maybe wait would be for the Galaxy Note, coming out relatively soon. But if you do decide to go with the E4GT you always have 14 days to return if you don't like it.
Phone is awesome. The signal issue is with sprint not the phone....imo. If you already have sprint and are happy you should be fine. Gps works great for me. I use it everyday.

I thought they still had a 14 day period where you could try it out and still able to return without penalty? If so, why not try it for a week or 2 and see for yourself?
Phone is amazing and I am truly happy with what I have.
So, no one has problems with GPS and loss of signal?
the phone is worth it. I love mine hands down my #1 of phones right now even over the GNexus. I've got a few friends that wish they had early upgrades wanting this thing that are stuck on Evo's
Edit.
As for LOS/GPS I had LOS when the phone first came out here and there but with the newer updates it's been fine I've yet to see a LOS sign on my phone. GPs I've never really had an issue with but I do know others have I just have not run into it.
I got my phone 1 Dec and have never had a LOS once. I play "Life is Crime", multiple times a day, which requires GPS and have never had an issue.

No GPS issues and no LoS here... great phone. Super fast and slick. Do the upgrade, you won't regret it.
Wait for the GSIII.
This phone will be surpassed soon. Also the Galaxy Note may come out for us.

... the problem with waiting is you will get stuck in an endless loop of waiting. I agree this phone since the updates is now solid. at release it was iffy. but they were mainly software bugs.

Wait (at least) 6+ months for possibly a new "better" device that will have almost no dev roms?
No thanks.

I'm loving this phone too! As you can see in my sig, I've owned many Android phones. This is the best one yet. No signal problems here. I haven't used GPS on it yet though since I got a stand alone one ...
No problems for me at all, for the past 4 months. (That's how long I've had it so far)
It was a transition from my former iPhone 4. I love it greatly. No LoS for me ever, but I do have problems with GPS here and there. Although, as of recent, it's been able to pinpoint where my location is and such.
Have been using Blazer ROM on it as well. I don't think I'd have it any other way. And with counterparts coming out (GSII Skyrocket/Note/etc.) I don't find myself WANTING those handsets. That's how awesome the phone has been to me, I just don't see a need to get anything else than this.
I've had NO problems with this phone. It's great, actually one problem and thats battery life. But thats because i use way too much (i just got an extended battery so that issue was solved). =D!!!! GET IT NOW!!!!
I decided on getting this phone. I had the Epic 4g so i am familiar with roms, kernels , and such. I actually would have stayed with the Epic if I wouldn't have dropped and broken it, but since I have an upgrade I might as well get an upgrade. I honestly thing a single core 1ghz proc was fast enough. A dual core 1.2ghz will last me years. Thanks for all the input!

Awesome! Welcome to the family...
No GPS or LoS here.
Did have some low signal issues in my house but a free airave solved that.
If I were you, and depending on when the Nexus comes out for Sprint, I would wait for that. LTE support and more update support. Although the hardware on the Nexus apparently is lacking compared to this.
Regardless I'm very happy with this phone.
I've had this phone since the first day is was available and its pros far outweigh its negatives. 4G reception is great, but 3G is not as good as it was on my Optimus S. Battery life is fantastic.

So I currently have the Samsung Fascinate on verizon, and it finally running great with latest superclean, gingerbread.
But I am able to upgrade, I went to the store and at first I was not very impressed. Then went back just today, and realized someone made the fonts extra Large, and once I changed it back to normal, wow what a difference. I just thought something wrong with my eyes on that phone.
I was trying to compare the nexus to the razr and htz rezound. After trying all 3 phones for an hour I am 100% sure I don't want the rezound or razr even if they do get ICS. The main reason is I think the screen looked the best on nexus, and bigger. I just liked having more real estate, of course other big reason is it is ASOP Google which is main reason for looking at nexus.
But I was curious do your phones get hot? I noticed after playing with this nexus in the store it got very warm / to hot when I tried to make a call to see sound quality I could barely keep it on my face.
I downloaded the temperature monitor from market and it showed it at 110.
While razr and rezound was mostly cool compared to nexus. I think temp showed around 98-105
Some other concerns is I saw a thread here where getting scratched easily, I refuse to put a screen protector on, I just hate it, I have never had one on my fascinate and not one scratch. So while at the store I tried as hard to scratch with my nails, and bang it, basically doing what I can to see if anything happened, and I did not see one scratch, so I guess that is good, though not sure what happens when I put it in my front pants pocket.
I also made a call from the store and sounded really good, and person on other end said I sounded great, of course in the store I am sure the reception is great. I was curious how is the speakerphone? I use that a lot, since I am always losing my bluetooth.
I tried to it use while in the store but way too noisy to get a good feeling.

We already knew more-or-less what we were getting with the Verizon rendition of the Galaxy Nexus, and ultimately it delivers. Yes, battery life predictably takes a hit compared to the HSPA+ when you enable LTE, and it's safe to say this version of the phone has a bit more to love than the earlier release, but neither of those are deal-breakers. This, like the other version, is a great phone. At $300 with a two-year contract ($650 without) it is not cheap, but if you must have the best, it's well worth it.

Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.

.. and yes the phone does get hot when you play games, although it has stopped getting that hot when I started using franco kernel because the phone is being undervolted. GPU is also increased to 386 MHz (or something like that.. a boost from clock GPU). The speaker is kind of low but getting Volume+ (or flashing DSP Manager) will fix that straight up. Set volume+ to +8 and all will be good.
This is a stock Google experience and is a far better experience than what the RAZR and Rezound can offer. ICS 4.0.3/4.0.2 is simply amazing.
Thanks I already looked at all reviews...at this point in time it either the Nexus or wait to see what else will be coming out with ICS, kind of curious what will be announced at CES this week.
So razr and rezound is out, definitely not getting them even if they get ICS.
Well I wasn't even playing games, just using the browser and it got hot. So this is normal.
I have to really think about this then, I mean if it gets so hot I cannot talk on it, that might not be so good.

They'll most likely be phones releasing with 2.3.7 and will say "upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich." Previous phones release with older versions of Android, all of these phones have been planned since last quarter. They're just being announced today. With the "nexus" brand they will last for a long time with exceptional support from the dev community as well as Google themselves as it is their flagship device. All updates come directly from Google.
And my phone doesn't get hot when I'm browsing the web or anything. Only time it gets hot for me is when it's playing games like GTA III. But all of that have stopped after using a third-party kernel. I'm not sure if this is fixed with the latest update but it could be. I was on 4.0.1 when this happened, the latest ICS build is 4.0.3 now.

Cool thanks for info. Yeah I am 95% sold on it..just trying to make sure. I refuse to ever buy a phone again where they say it will be upgraded to ICS at some point like razr or rezound I am sure they will get it the question is when, I was burned with Fascinate because of that.
I should have looked in the store to see what version it was running. I forgot to check.
Is 4.0.3 officially released or you put on a leaked version?

Well Gingerbread (2.3.X) came out a long time ago. And phones said "upgradable to 2.3.X" and didn't get it until 6-7 months later. I mean you can use a custom ROM and all that but development is limited when kernels aren't open-sourced that are used for that specific Android version and blah blah blah (too technical to type out).
I've used a Samsung Vibrant, and it heavily relied on leaked Samsung builds by samfirmwares. It was getting really old.
4.0.3 is officially released on the Nexus S but the update was halted due to bugs. But I've been running 4.0.3 with custom ROMs and battery life has been amazing. I'm currently using a leaked bootloader update (PRIMEKL01) and battery life is even better with this bootloader.
4.0.3 is officially released in AOSP, so anyone can compile AOSP 4.0.3. But the latest OTA is 4.0.2 as 4.0.3 is halted (as mentioned previously). So it's not necessarily leaked in any way.
I'd personally recommend you to use custom ROMs + franco kernel. You can check the GSM/CDMA forums and view users' feedback. Idle is amazing with that kernel. If you wish to not root right away, at least unlock the bootloader first so if you change your mind. You can root it and use Titanium Backup (or any other app that does the same) and backup your stuff. Otherwise you'll lose your data when you do decide to root.
Keep in mind, I believe you should have a 14 (or 30 day) return if you are unsatisfied with the phone.
Great info and I agree they take way too long to come out with updates in general which is why I want the nexus...I was curious who controls these updates? Verizon or Google?
Meaning if google says they are ready for update it goes? Or it still has to be officially approved by verizon?
Who halted the update verizon or google?

Well there are different variants of the Galaxy Nexus. But I'm assuming since you mentioned a bunch of Verizon devices (RAZR, Rezound) that you're getting the CDMA version. CDMA version is codednamed "toro" so Google will be handling those updates. For GSM, "yakju" is handled by Google. There is a whole thread about this, but I wouldn't worry about getting updates on the Verizon network.

Oh that is awesome did not know can get it directly from google.
nexus is a great phone, the only issue you may have is the battery life on Verizon LTE version.
although the HSPA+ (GSM) version may have adequate battery life, the LTE version is horrid when it comes to this.
its mainly a hardware issue, coupled with the 4.65 inch SAMOLED HD screen.
on extended battery, i can only get about 2 hours of on screen time before it depletes to 0%. Doesn't sound like much, and I agree. Sadly I am over my 14 day return limit and stuck with a phone with subpar battery life. Hopefully future software updates will alleviate the issue, but again, its more of hardware issue. I can see why Apple delayed their LTE phones. Qualcomm's LTE radio chips are just too power hungry.
Yes, one can just disable LTE and be on wifi. Thats an option, but I do prefer phones that work great overall out of the box.

I figured the battery would be horrible..on any 4G phone, or is it just nexus.
I did not see this option in the store can you turn on 3G only if you know you going to be in an area that has no good 4G service so it does not suck up your battery?
I was looking for it cannot find it.
Personally 4G is not a huge thing for me, but a nice thing to have I guess.

there is no 3G/4G toggle on stock ICS. You can, however, download a widget off the market place and use that as a toggle. you'd have to go to settings -> more -> mobile networks -> network mode to change it otherwise.
hopefully google/verizon will update their baseband firmware and bring better battery life. i think thats whats causing a lot of the battery performance issues on LTE.
thing is, even with good 4G signal, if you watch a youtube video in HD, you'll see the batt % dwindle very quickly. watching a 5 minute hd clip would reduce the battery life by as much as 7-10% give or take.
the saving grace with this phone is the massive support from both google and the community. its the only reason why i'm holding onto this phone over any other 4G phone at the moment.
fyi the users that chime in this subforum either have the gsm or cdma version. depending on who you talk to, the cdma user will most likely ***** more about batt life than the GSM user.
If you are going to stay on Verizon then I personally don't see any other choice Although I would still take a GS2 over the GN in hardware but damn ICS is just such a nice OS.... even when its slow.

i'm actually thinking of going rezound if the battery life on it is any better.
Battery is affected on all 4G LTE phones for the most part. So it's not just the Galaxy Nexus. With custom ROMs, and kernels they can help to bring out the most of your battery life. But definitely battery will be your biggest issue, if you disable 4G LTE... that may be a way around it and only activate it when you really need it.
Also, the Rezound doesn't have NFC capabilities. NFC will be the future, so this is something to think about if you want to make payments with your phone.
Ultimately the decision is yours, http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Verizon-Galaxy-Nexus-vs-HTC-Rezound_id2938
Google a bunch of "rezound vs galaxy nexus" posts and read them. In the end, you choose which you'd think would fit you.
Latest updates and stock Google experience: Galaxy Nexus for sure.
I'm just gonna root and use a 4G toggle and only use 4G when I'm really trying to do some fast tasks, so otherwise, wifi and 3G for basic stuff like FB should get me some decent battery life.

I've had both the Rezound and the GNex and didn't think the battery life was any better on the Rezound.
I've gotten better battery life personally with my nexus compared to my brothers Rezound. Rezound was not too good for him.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I got the Rezound when it first came out. Didn't really have any signal issues like I'm reading most 4G phones have. With that said I did have horrible battery life and usually tried keeping it in CMDA/3G mode unless I was streaming videos.
Gaming or browsing while 4G was on had my Rezound pushing temps of low 140*F...
I also had the famous buzzing issue and the "beats" aren't what they're cracked up to be. The other thing was I got tired of the Rezound looking just like my Incredible.
But the screen was amazing.
It too took awful pic's however. They looked great on screen, terrible when the file was transferred to a computer...
But I will say you don't read about any of the signal issues that you read about with the GNex.
Hey guys, a while back i had the epic 4g, and it was the best phone in the world to me. The motorola photon came out and all i saw was dual core! so i jumped off the samsung epic ship and boarded the motorola photon ship......BIG MISTAKE....there wasnt anything i couldnt do with the epic 4g. Between the devs, and learning how to really have some modding fun with the epic, there wasnt really much of a limit on it. Ive been arguing with sprint for 6 months to allow me to upgrade both my lines, and they finally agreed! Ive had so many problems with the motorola photon, and the dev. department can only do so much without an unlocked bootloader...anyway, Im phone shopping now, and i wanna come back to the samsung epic family. I really like the epic touch 4g. Can you please comment on your experience with the phone? Is 4g and GPS working stable on all the roms? Im so eager and excited...I want to wait for the galaxy nexus, but ive got to take advantage of this opportunity while i have the chance, and the galaxy nexus is slightly outa hands reach...I will await your thoughts.....
This phone is awesome I just came from a nexus s and I don't miss it at all! Especially with CM9 the GPS and 4G is awesome where I live!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
everything is working great for me and i also asked about the nexus and generally everyone agreed that it wont really offer much more then the e4gt. i think just a little bigger screen and more internal memory
It's ultimately that YMMV. I heard that the photons have better modems so they can get better signals compared to the epic 4g touch.
However, ROM development has really been kicking off. We have three main AOSP ROMS, CM 9, AOKP, and Codename Android, which are all about to be updated to Android 4.0.4 and able to record video again. All silky smooth. Make sure to not flash or wipe anything if you flash to ICS or you risk bricking.
As far as hardware, you should check if you have LTE where you live if you want to take advantage of it on the Galaxy Nexus.
Here's a thread asking a similar question
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568211
In all honesty, this is the longest I've ever kept a phone and I've had it since it released in September. I love this phone and the devs (and contributors) here at XDA just give me new ways to enjoy my phone and make it work for me.
I'll be eyeing the new HTC and SGS3 (if it ever comes out) but it would take a lot to make me jump ship, and truly, that is saying a lot for me.
@darkfire2024, i must admit, some of my co-workers have the epic touch 4g and when they dont have any bars of service, i usually have full bars. Not that it helps to have full bars, i might beable to make a call, but i definitely dont have any 3g coverage...I live in chicago, im sure it will be months before they release lte over here. I checked that thread. Very useful, thanks for your advice.
I'd like to say this is by the best phone I've ever used. The great thing, as you pointed out, is the active devs here, they are incredible. I recently helped a co-worker with his newest Droid4; get it at least rooted anyways, and I felt even better about my phone. Great thing is you have SO many options to choose from - especially for connectivity! Maybe the EL29 modem works best on your phone and in your neighborhood. Maybe it's the FC07 or FC24 or even one of the EK versions. The point being you can find out! I've been lucky and had progressively better speeds for both 4G and 3G with each version (except one early FC; caused batter drain and got no 4G) Good luck.
Edit: forgot to add that if you do go flashing different modems, make sure to update the PRL and Profile after/between the updates! I keep coming back to the Blazer GB ROM - literally everything works and works great. I've got a couple FC24 builds I'll probably try this weekend. But we'll see. I'm sure the final offical ICS code will drop very soon; then we'll see some great crazy development.

My thoughts exactly. I have used the nexus in the verizon store and I must say the e4gt runs smoother. Samsung really hit the nail on the head with this phone it is perfect! No lag at all. Watch the video comparing the two by FlossyCarter on youtube you will see what I mean when I say the epic runs better. Like others have said this is the phone that I have owned the longest because with cell phones I am always getting sick of them after a couple weeks (Iphone) this phone has so much dev support and is just so awesome I can see myself holding on to it for another year easily!

right! plus ICS is making it super raw lol. everytime i pick this joint up to use it im still in awe like the first day I got it. Im amazed by how powerful and advanced this thing is. Im totally satisfied with it. Never had a phone this long either, and unless the note comes to sprint, I wont be ditching it anytime soon. Not even for the GNEX which IMO is a downgrade.
the best I always fight w m friend on whos better is iPhone or my epic 4g touch
Et4g + AOSP ICS > gNex ;-)

If I were you I would wait about 2 weeks man! Rumor has it the Galaxy Nexus might be released on sprint April 15. Besides that phone I would just wait for the Galaxy S3 which should be out in the next 6-8 months!
I switch phones quite a bit as well but to be honest with you this phone is the best I've ever owned, and with so much dev support you never get tired of it.
Coming from the HTC Evo 3D I can say this phone blows it out the water. Love my Epic Touch

The question I have is, how does the stock ICS release rate in terms of battery life and performance as compared to TDJ's and Whitehawk's releases? If its not any faster or runs longer, why bother until TDJ/WH release tweaked versions?

Aarons a pretty cool dude lol battery life on the new tmo release didn't cut it for me but others reported good bat life. Give it a go and see how it flows for ya.

When I had my SII, ICS was cool and all but the performance and battery life just weren't as good as the GB builds. I always ended up going back to GB

should probably wait until TDJ releases the new version with his own kernel.
I am quite underwhelmed with the performance. Speed, smoothness, battery life, all better with GB. Not sure what they were thinking in this upgrade. Why send it something that makes the phones perform worse with no noticeable added features. Wasn't this supposed to be the upgrade to really show off the dual core processors?

You people serious? The update literally not even been out 48 hours and you're all complaining about battery and performance? For one, that's not enough time to judge battery, two, did you really think a stock build would be some epic thing? Any one with any sense was excited for what it meant for custom ROMs.
FWIW, I ran stock until last night. That was when TDJ posted his first stock but tweaked and debloated ICS ROM from all things official. That said, the battery did just fine on tmo stock for the whole 16 or so hours that it ran on a single charge. Yeah, no tweaks, nothing crazy going on, just stock as it was installed through Kies.

Its not just the performance that is the problem. Its the fact that they have the keys to making this phone great and are paid well to do so and our amazing unpaid devs have to clean up the mess that the tmo devs left behind. I mean srsly? Releasing a stock rom with shutdown and reboot hang? WORSE battery life? i had to flash a camera fix to make it EVEN WORK. PERIOD. Idk if they even fixed wifi calling but im leaning toward no. Bottom line its pretty lackluster and our devs here are our saving grace.

I don't understand the people on this forum sometimes, you people make my head hurt.
I wholeheartedly agree. Devs spend their time fixing more than enhancing. To anyone complaining about people complaining.
NOT EVERYONE WILL HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE YOU DO.
Me being one of those people. Ucle2 runs much better, smoother with 20+ hours of bat life with 3+ hours of screen on time. With the tmo release I got lag, screen glitches and battery life not even half as good as tdjs evo 7.1.
...yet there are people that have absolutely no issues. Understand that the people with no issues are the minority. Not everyone wants to mod their phone. The amount of tmo gs2 owners on this forum are the minority compared to the millions of average users without knowledge of rooting.
...how do you think ics will run on their gb equipped handsets??
Leave the minority alone unless you have helpful info on changing their experience. If not, I and the rest of the ****ed updaters don't want to hear your 2 cents.

It's not complaining about the complaining. It's shock at the naivety that a stock ROM would offer anything remotely close to what the GB customs offered let alone what the ICS customs will bring us very soon. I didn't expect anything out of TMO's ICS other than, hopefully, that tasty ICS look. TMO had other plans though so my one dream was shattered.
As for any issues with the TMO stock? I had only one. The wifi calling delay was still present for me. Aside from that, it did everything it should have. I understand as well that every experience is different but, again, the TMO release isn't the climax here. That is still to come.

My g/f and I both have the t989. Her's is rooted with stock GB, and I was running Juggernaut. There was a profound difference in battery life between the two phones. So far, my battery life with Mr. X's stock/rooted ICS looks to be about the same as Juggernaut. She is running stock ICS now, but it is too soon to say how her battery compares. It should be the same, unless getting rid of the t-mo bloat makes a significant difference. I don't think it will for battery life, though.
About 2 weeks ago something happened with my phone and the Juggernaut install was corrupted. I flashed back to stock GB and I couldn't get a full 24 hours. With Juggernaut I can get about 3 days.
I really hated the t-mo version of ICS with all the bloat, but with it rooted, I used TB to freeze all the bloat away. Much cleaner phone now.

You are thinking about this from the perspective of the phone owner and android and enthusiast. Think about it from their business perspective.
1) This is the last OS update for this phone. Their emphasis at this point is probably on the next 'latest and greatest' android phone.
2) They aren't interested in making this phone the 'best' it can be. They are simply aiming for better than adequate (that would be for your regular user grade android phone), they are aiming for above average, but not superlative. If they aimed for (and achieved) superlative, you might not be as interested in buying their next 'latest and greatest' android phone. You know "Hey, no need to upgrade now, because, with this latest update, this phone rocks."
3) Finally, judging by all the bloat, another major goal the company has set for the programmers is to develop built in apps, etc. that tempt customers into paying for additional fee based services, thus adding additional income streams.
I'm just glad that it is so relatively easy to root this phone and create custom roms for it. I'm also very thankful there is a talented community dedicated to that undertaking.
It has been about 8 months since I've had a "modern" Android phone, I was really frustrated with the lackluster experience of my Tmo Sensation--it was a dual-core but it honestly didn't seem much better than my Mytouch4g, or my MT3G slide. Many times I would find myself with a laggy experience, which is why I am so hesitant with newer phones still...Well that and the level of development is normally a tadd sketchy and rough around the edges for T-Mobile devices.
1. Is there a high interest in development?
-I know this may sound like a silly question, however it's essential for me because I have had terrible experiences with Samsung dev support for the two Sammies I've owned(Sidekick 4G+Galaxy Player 5). I know the S3 is from may but I would really hate to spend all this money just to find out it's development will play out like the Sidekick 4G's did(never passed froyo, and the player never passed ginger).
2. Bleeding: Is screen bleeding a common issue, and if it is does it get worse over time?
3. How do you guys feel about the CPU/GPU? (can anyone tell me the "min" cpu value?)
4. How do you feel about the screen quality?(this will be my 1st AMOLED & 720P device)
5. Do you experience lag? (if enough people say there's lag that will really turn me away--it's one of those nitpicks that I will not lose...I mean I have a iP4 that's smoother than recent phones--which is saying a lot honestly. )
6. Can someone please explain the whole IMEI loss to me? ( I am willing to remain stock if it means Devs can find a solution--I've rooted, flashed, adb'd, and what not many times but the risks are higher with the S3)
7. If anyone of you are using a S3 in nyc, can you please tell me what kind of data speed it's tugging?
(my sensation had pretty bad 4G/HSPA+ #'s which is why I'm asking this now)
8. Is the 2GB RAM a superfluous feature, or does it partially future-proof the device for 4.x or 5.x?
I know I am asking a lot from you guys, though you have to understand that I don't want to get trapped in a renewed contract with a device that will be cut loose only a few months only after release. I am not into the whole scam of receiving 1 update(as in going from 1 android ver to another) and then never hearing of anything again.
Bump. Doesn't anyone have any input about this phone? -_-
Most if not all of your question are answered in other post, people just get tired and rewriting everything. So dont expect the same questions to get answered every time.
So your coming from some less desired devices, you will deff see dev support on a much higher level. I mean this is the Galaxy S 3 not some low end device.
My advice is make the jump or go try it for the 14 days and return if ya dont like it ( i bet you will like it).
Well good luck,

That's what people said about the Amaze 4G, Rezound, Galaxy SII(tmo), and Galaxy S Blaze...Those aren't low end but they never took off development wise. I am wondering whether or not Devs are scared away due to the S4 being in the Galaxy instead of the Exynos--so far I see about 20+ ROMs for the int'l S3 and 1-5 active ones for this S3. That is why I show great hesitation with new Android phones, their futures are always uncertain if the device isn't international or a Nexus. I tried this device briefly at a tmo store and I though it was really okay, but that's cause it was hooked up to a display stand so I couldn't get a real feel for it.
I came from the sensation to the S3 and am very happy.
It really all comes down to how you use your phone. I did like HTC sense, and sense 4.0 was nice through some of the custom roms available.
But the S3, in my opinion is way better. But its going to come down to your personal opinion.
I have not had any problems with the phone- granted I got it 2 weeks ago and not at release so I haven't had it too long. But still no problems.
THe screen is very nice, again in my opinion. There are some that say they don't like it and it could be better.

Well since you've owed a Sensation, can you tell me if you notice a difference in performance. I mainly ditched the Sensation because it didn't seem very fast, it lagged very often but keep in mind this was before ICS was out for it. Honestly I have lost faith in Qualcomm's competence--they really threw me off when they made their S3's as a A8/A9 design.
Thats probably one of the main reasons I switched from the sensation... that and i couldn't seem to find one with a speaker phone I could actually hear...
I haven't noticied any lag at all on the S3. Not like the sensation. It was definitely noticeable, esp on the stock rom. I've only had S3 for about 2 weeks and love it. I haven't tried any custom roms yet, but have rooted and installed google wallet which works great. I still haven't tweeked it too much or loaded it up with apps and media.
Keep in mind, you have 14 days to decide if you like the phone.

My First thoughts were, its a little bigger than i hoped. But after a week worth of use, Anything smaller seems obsolete.

Its a completely different animal. I can promise it will meet and exceed your expectations.
On another note. I average 18+ hours of pretty decent usage.
My sensation goes on the charger @ noon typically. Not this. I get home with 40% left..

Well I am happy to hear that it's not a mess like the Sensation. It had a nice look to it, but speed wise it was a joke for a dualcore phone. If you say there's no lag on ICS, then I can only imagine what would happen if it got JB+project butter. I guess you have put my fear of lag to rest. However I will wait a little while longer to see if Dev support picks up, right now it seems to be where tmobile's SII+amaze were at in their early life(which was a bad place). Once I see at least 10 active aosp/aopk/CM10 ROMs I will definitely get one. Thanks for everything! :fingers-crossed:

1) The phone has been out for a month so development is merely getting started. It will pick up as time goes by and we will see major roms like cyanogen andothers here (CM9 already and cm10 preview available). Many custom made kernels out there that are amazing.
2) Haven't head of screen bleeding on this device and mine (2 days old) has none. Be warned if you have not heard about the black splotches look into it. When screen is on and completely black you may notice some black splotches around the screen (you wont notice on day to day use unless you try to look. Every device varies you might get one with minimal blotches. This is a side effect of the AMOLED.
3) I believe stock cpu was set at 1.4ghz and I'm not sure what min was. Currently have mine overclocked to 1.89ghz max and 385mhz min.I camefrom the HTC one S and they have the same cpu. The snapdragon S4 is a powerhouse bro you will love the fluidity and performance here,
4) I first compared my HTC One S HDLED screen to my friends samsung blaze and I fell in love with the AMOLED screen. It is just has more POP and vibrant colors. You will love it, idk how anyone can dislike this screen it is beautiful and blasphemy to those who use it on anything lower than max brightness.
5) Only time I have experienced lag has been when messing with the CPU clock and when my min profiles are set on setcput to anything lower than 1ghz
6) As far as I know the IMEI loss has been happening when flashing recoveries or flashing cyanogen using a recovery other than CWM. I Rooted and flashed CWM with no problem. Still havent flashed CM9 until it is more "complete" and I make sure the IMEI issue is not ROM flashing related. (again i have been browsing the forums for only 2 days so im still learning the issues here)
7) I live in the Bronx and work in Manhattan. The data speeds in my apartment suck compared to my HTC One S. I was getting 2-5mbps down and up on it but on the S3 I am rarely pulling past 1mbps down and up. This doesn't matter to me as I have wifi on 24/7 at home. At work (85th and Amsterdam I pull an amazing 15-20mbps down and 3-5mbps up in that area. I go giddy when doing speed tests at work.
8) No device is future proof but the 2gb will help keep the device more current as different Android versions are developed. It is also beneficial when dealing with many apps opening one after another multitasking and such. IF you are a power user it is beneficial. To most it's the same as 1gb
Hope I've helped.

You are welcome bro. Don't get me wrong most of the Bronx does have terrible speed in comparison to Manhattan but there are a few areas where the speeds have surprised me. Like a train stop away from here I get great speeds. 10mbps on avg.

the only problem i had and it happened with 3 from tmobile was the phone was getting very warm. so i got the note from t mobile and the performance difference is very noticable. the s3 is a power house fast internet load speeds smooth and the screen compared to the already beautiful screen on the note is sharper and brighter. I had the black crush issue with the note blacks were horrid so i received another s3 today i have them both in front of me and love em both but am gonna stick with the s3 because of the performance and the screen. If the new note has the inners of the s3 and a 5.3-5.5 inch screen the s3 will be history i love the size of the note..what im trying to say i would not buy a phone with anything less then the s4 snapdragon in .Plus if you want to upgrade the s3 will be desirable and hold its value for a while so you could sell in the future for the next best thing..
I'm having a lot of data issues with my HTC One S on T-Mobile US, so I'm thinking about getting an SIII. I can either do a warranty exchange on my One S but the SIII looks like it can outperform the One S so here I am.
I wanted to know if there have been any issues with the SIII? From the various threads I've seen, there doesn't appear to be any but I just wanted to ask current users. I'd like some input on:
stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
data connectivity (data network and wifi)
camera performance
battery performance
GPS performance
how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
any gotchas?
Also, what's the difference between the 2 development threads? Why is one called Original and the other is not?
Many thanks

stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
A. Amazing! The new touchwiz is smooth and very stable, it's partially the reason why I always go back to stock based roms.
data connectivity (data network and wifi)
A. It depends on where you live but I haven't had any issues with data at all, it's reasonably faster than it was on my Galaxy S2 so no complaints there!
camera performance
A. I think the camera is one of the best on the market, photo's are very sharp and clear from my experience.
battery performance
A. The battery on this device is good, I can make it through a day easily with moderate use.
GPS performance
A. I don't use GPS very much so I can't give you a good answer to that one but I haven't heard any complaints about it.
how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
A. My root experience was great, if you had a Galaxy S2 and rooted it, it's basically the same thing. If not it's still very basic if you follow the instructions correctly.
any gotchas?
A. Not sure what this means, if your talking about issues or something like that then I have one:
- The device can get warm from time to time when using data for long periods of time, other then that I haven't had any issues with phone.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a new phone!
Only problem I have is it warms up from heavy data use from time to time. Stock ROM was wonderful but I finally flashed cm10 last night to see how it is. I couldn't believe it but the phone became even faster Haha I highly recommend this phone

Stock ROM: Nearly perfect. It's fluid. It's fast, it's useful. And you can switch most things on or off without rooting. You can get a newly Aosp experience without root.
Data: As good as any other recent phone. Data completely relies on where you live. The s3 will not give you any problems.
Battery: Good or very good. The phone lasts about 20 hours with moderate usage. It can easily hit 2 days with light usage. Jelly bean currently has no bugs but it does drain the battery slightly more than ics. Expect 17 hours average on jelly bean.
Gps: Best in class. Locks instantly, consistently within 20 seconds cold boot.
Rooting: Rooting is easy and takes 3 minutes.
CAMERA: Same as the iPhone 4s but i do believe the software is better. Pictures are some of the best for a smartphone. Only a few phones best it but it is not by much.
Other: Phone is ready for wireless charging of you want to solder 2 wires on it. Also, i have heard reports that the screen cracks on some drops so be warned and careful.
Overall. Super fast, super reliable, has bugless jelly bean,

Many thanks

I have the sgs3 and I absolutely love it. Was on stock form late July till about 2 weeks ago and it seemed to perform just fine. I'm not huge on the TouchWiz interface of the past but this one wasn't so bad. Was never at a loss for power even though we didn't get the Integra (le sigh). Here in Chicago the data is always smooth but I spend some time in rural WI, so up there it could be better but that is more local then phone performance related. The Camera was outstanding. Girlfriend has the HTC One S and she was a little jealous of the camera by comparison. I had a very smooth root transition and I did it about a week after I got the phone, now I can only imagine it will be smoother for you. Flashed to the cm10 nightlies and I have had a few issues but nothing that was major. Not to mention Cyanogen himself is developing on the T999 which is awesome. Only issues that I would be aware of is that when I rooted my phone there were some issues with people losing their IMEI... but that has mostly been cleared up if you search around the forums. I think it had something to do with people rooting for the international version instead of the US Carrier version. Not sure but I didn't encounter it. Best phone I have ever had. Like it even more then my old G2 that I refused to get rid of till it finally crashed.
Please don't get it.
The only issue I have had is the dirty looks from Apple fan boys

Stock works just perfect its stable and such however i notice that when data is turned on the phone gets a little bit hot but nothing too serious...
Battery life is okay 22hs unplugged and 3h30minutes screen on time ..
I dont see any major issues camera is really good in bright area but when it gets very dark whit no flash camera is taking pics whit lot of noise but its very responsive ..

You should be proud.. that you have a phone that doesn't break apart in the box during shipping.
My first S III had a dent in the metal beneath the battery and the second one had a significant scratch in the speaker grill. My third one was just assembled loosely or the pieces didn't fit together well so there were gaps in the seams under the battery cover and all three of these had poorly calibrated displays because white images appeared to be slightly yellow at times so I wouldn't poke fun at Apple if I were you...
4th one's the charm though. I'm happy with this one.

The GS3 is the best phone I have ever had. Don't have any problems. Only thing I miss is no FM radio.
Yes it leaks.
Best phone period.
Well, until the next big thing arrives
-stock ROM performance (although I will root eventually)
Rooting doesn't necessarily mean that you have to switch ROMs, but anyways, stock ROM seems to use a bit more battery than lets say CyanogenMod but other than that, I enjoy the motion controls on the stock rom. I always have better bars than my friends and everything works like a charm
- data connectivity (data network and wifi)
wifi and data both work well. one time I had a problem where data wasn't working that well but i fixed it by reverting back to stock kernel.
-camera performance
i love taking pictures with the camera. the features are pretty enjoyable too. my aunt really loves the "beauty" feature on the camera where it clears up blemishes and makes you look really nice 8D really enjoy being able to take pictures while recording video as well.
- battery performance
typical day I can get 4 hours of screen time in the full day. that is with some light gaming, lots of texting and some social networking. pretty good for a heavy user. my old phone nexus s, would always get low battery and I would have to watch my usage.
- GPS performance
before i switched carriers, I had unlimited data on mobilicity so that worked really well with the GPS. I could always locate myself and sometimes when I wasn't too sure about the area, i could pull up google maps and it would find where I am within seconds.
- how your root experience was (easy, difficult, issues laden?)
rooting the s3 was pretty simple. It just involved using Odin to flash a custom recovery and then installing superuser. it was a lot easier than my nexus s where I had to use adb and fastboot
- any gotchas?
there is the occasional lag and glitch here and there but then again after rooting you can't expect everything to run perfectly. hopefully you get the s3 and enjoy
