I am completely new to this so please forgive my ignorance. I am having trouble with my G2 Vision. Let me describe the situation. My phone suddenly began having problems. Mainly, it's ear-speaker makes no sound when I send or receive calls, even though plugging in an ordinary pair of earbuds allows me to hear the person speaking. At the same time the mic is affected, because the caller cannot hear me either. However, if I turn on the Speaker option during the call, the outer speaker and mic work properly. The normally loud outer speaker, however, is no longer working if I try to play music on my phone, though the player works if I plug in the aforementioned earbuds. (The outer speaker can make sounds though, because it beeps when I put the phone's volume settings all the way up.) The really strange thing though, is that as soon as I plug in my earbuds my music starts playing automatically. Now, I already tried a factory reset and it didn't work. But before I did the reset, I had another music program on my phone as well, and as soon as I would plug in my earbuds, both music programs would start playing; the one that came with the phone normally, the one I had installed glitching. I really couldn't find any information that fit all these factors and since I know you guys are the experts, I came to you for help. Anyone know what the real problem is and how I can fix it? I would really appreciate any help you could give me.
My best guess sounds like you need to replace the main flex cable, about 30$ and takes 30min, hour if your new to this kind of stuff

How do I do that? Any hints?
First find the cable, usually eBay has them. Next find a disassembly guide either here on xda or YouTube or use the Google
Then follow the disassembly guide of choice once the new cable arrives, swap cables, reassemble, profit

Hi guys I bought this new headphone RC-E160 made by HTC some 2 months ago and now the right speaker has stopped working just like the headphones bundled with HTC. Has anybody encountered similar problems with their headphones, is it possible to fix it
Probably a faulty wire. It can be fixed, but because you are asking this question, I can assume you do have the knowledge and the required materials.

Well, I have the same problem with my old headphones. One speaker doesn't work. I found out that there is something wrong with phone's jack connector. When I press the headphones into the phone (I have to use a lot of strenght..), it works, but when I stop pressing the headphones into the phone, it moves a little bit, and the contact between phone and headphones is lost.
My waranty is void because of root, so I decided to buy a bluetooth headphones, does anyone have any experience with it?
That was my exact problem also! Try shaving a Q - Tip and lightly dip it in rubbing alcohol and give it a swab, it worked for me being an old phone I just figured dust build up, also I switched to a pair of Marley headphones that claim wont break and the jack is quite strong, still got my WFS even though I recently upgraded to gnex. Hopefully that helps, if not I'd say replace it, use amazon for ANY cell phone replacement parts you need and YouTube for several tutorial videos!

Ok this has been killing me for the past few days. It seems my headphone doesnt fitbquite nice enough and a little wiggle causes it to wake my phone up. Is it possible to disable the phone from waking up when I plug in my headphones???
This is frustrating because im constantly fighting my phone to stay off!

I didn't know this was that big of a problem.
I always thought it was useful so you can efficiently open your music right when you put in your headphones.
Try turning off the Context Buddy in the display settings and see if that does anything.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Context buddy is already off. It's weird, see, the phone never gets interrupted music wise, but for whatever reason the phone detects it being unplugged and plugged back in (without disrupting audio)
I do have headset blocker but that doesn't effect it, so I'm hoping that someone knows any files I can edit to disable this function
Ok so this is cool, after taking a look at my phone, and messing with the headphone jack. My freakin headphone jack is ****ed up. Something is wrong and the pins aren't properly clicking onto the damn jack. What the hell. I never abused the headphone jack and just like that it's broken. This is BS
I guess I thought it was doing this for a while but that's only because I haven't listened to any music for a few days. I just had my headphones on today at work to muffle the factory noise and kept hearing my phone lock and unlock, but now it's for sure.
My phone has a damaged headphone jack! this is messed up. One of the reasons for wanting a samsung in the first place was hoping they had a better headphone jack setup than HTC does/did (which were physically cracking the headphone jack) and now it looks like my phone is messed up too.
This is ridiculous...
I'm going to see if maybe lint or some crud is stuck inside there...here's hoping that's all it is...
nope, it's the headphone jack. This is bs, I'm going to see if sprint will replace it under mechanical failure or something. The phone's only 3 months old and has been in a case its entire life, never dropped/abused or anything.

I've had this phone since the day it came out and never had a problem with the screen turning itself on while my headphones were in, which is saying a lot seeing as I use my headphones every single day on my 1 hour bus ride to work.
And also never had a problem with the headphone jack...
Take the phone to Sprint and tell them the headphone jack is messed up and they will surely give you a new one.
Just you know, be all "frustrated" and what not in the store lol.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning on doing. It's messed up that a 3 month old phone wears out its headphone jack, where my 10 year old cd player still works perfectly fine.
there's no physical damage, it's just that the pins inside have worn out.
Do you think they'll care that my phone is rooted hah. I mean, this is 100% unrelated to being rooted ya know?
I tend to use my headphones 8 hours a day, 6 days a week on my phone. So i guess it was bound to happen. I just hope it never happens again.

If anything before you go just do the "triangle away".
The application can be found in the app store, it resets your counter.
Like I said, I've had my phone about 5 months now and use my headphones every single day and haven't had a problem with them.

If you are worried about them finding root (they will probably look for before giving new device) go into superuser and unroot through there if you want.

Dont need triangle away since my counter never ticked with thebroot method I used. Im not worried though since sprint works on rooted phones as long as root wasnt the cause. In this case the headphone jack wore out from daily use

I have a temporary fix. It seems that the headphone detection pin has worn out severely, so I looked around and found out soundabout (which i was already using to disable the speaker) has an option to force sound to the headphone without using headset detection. Works perfect.
Hello,
After doing some research I have decided on the V-Moda M80 headphones. They include two cables, one for android and one for iPhone, but through my research I have found that the cables may be incompatible with some devices.
So has anybody used the M80's with the Galaxy Nexus and what are your thoughts on them?
Did the cable/remote work as designed or did you have to reverse the cable and lose the remote functionality?
Thanks

Wow nobody owns the M80's I guess. Can anybody compare the headphone jack configuration on the Galaxy S2 vs.Galaxy Nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I actually owned a pair of m-80's a couple of months ago and used them on my galaxy nexus just fine. I don't recall the iPod certified cable working at all, or maybe just the middle button, but the android single button cable works just fine. Just make sure you're getting those headphones if you really can tell the difference in them from some other lower priced ones. I decided they didn't warrant the price after I got them but some audiophiles can really tell a difference.

I have tried pairs that are very cheap and even very expensive and I could hear a difference compared to the headphones I'm using currently which I got free.
Thank you for confirming the cable works.
EDIT: While you had the M80's how did you find the comfort and isolation of them?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I wouldn't think the GNex would drive it that well.

I thought they were really comfortable but the noise isolation and leakage was pretty bad, but that's kind of what you'd expect from a set of on-ear headphones.

I've browsed these forums a bit over the years, but I wanted to post (my first I think?) and say that I got these headphones today, and I have to reverse the cable with my Note 2.
Bit late now, will elaborate tomorrow.
So, the one button cable works pretty good for me plugged in the correct direction, just so long as I keep the 45 degree plug facing to the right while looking at my phone. If I turn the plug so it faces to the front or back, or anything in between that isn't to the right, my right headphone cuts out. The mic works, the button works, but I have to babysit the plug to keep it facing to the right.
What has your experience been? If I reverse the cable, the headphones work great no matter how I turn them. I am trying to research a cable that works, but so far I've had no luck.
My set only came with the android and iphone cable, no standard no-button one like I've read other have received. Maybe I should send V-Moda an email, I've heard they are quite accommodating.

That's interesting regarding the cable, maybe your cable is defective, I have spun the jack while connected to my phone with $5 headphones and the audio didn't cut out. I still haven't ordered the M80's, I have been trying to research a bit more as the m80's have poor isolation/comfort based on reviews I've read and I need good comfort and decent isolation, so the m80's might not be the right fit for my usage.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I don't think that the cable is defective as it were, I've read of others having the same problem. Reversing the cable seems to solve it, but then I lose the mic. I am going to try cleaning the headphone jack and emailing V-Moda. I have been having some problems with the Samsung headphones, twisting the plug can cut the right side in and out, but not predictably like the V-Modas. Cheapo sets don't exhibit this behavior, I am thinking it is something to do with the microphone.
Regarding comfort and isolation, I find both to be sufficient. Outside noises don't bother me, but I do tend to listen loudish. Prolonged use has fatigued my ears a bit, but that was while I was wearing my glasses, which I only do at work. I've heard that the ear pads break in over the first week or so, I'll be better equipped to comment in the near future.
They sound great. If you can get them from somewhere with a liberal return policy, I'd suggest giving them a try.

Does the audio work correctly when you hold down the button on the remote? Regarding the comfort, I have read its either very good or its bad depending on your head size/shape. The other alternative I'm considering is the Monster DNA On-ears they are supposedly very similar in sound to the m80's but with a hint more bass but the DNA are quite a bit more comfortable.

Holding down the button on the remote brings up the Google voice search. Kinda handy. But not if I can't get both headphones working consistently.
I'm going to a high end audio store here locally today...they sell lots of expensive headphones. Maybe one of them will have an idea. I don't mind buying new cables, I just want them to work.

I have the v-moda crossfade LP's and i think they use the same cable but only the middle button on my cable works but on my brothers ipod all the controls work fine.
I was listening to music, then I was planning to go on my laptop. I unplugged the headphones and the tip broke and it's stuck inside of the phone. I tried using super glue, and doing other stuff, but I couldn't. I was thinking that can I use my speakers if the piece is still in there. Can I disable something to make the phone think that the earphones are not connected?
I had that happen to my iPod! Best thing is i took a tac and kept picking at it till it came out, unless i think you could take your phone apart otherwise I don't know any software fixes for that

HELP. I was using my phone to listen to music via the free ear set when all of the sudden it stopped transmitting sound through the earbuds but instead went to go to loudspeaker. It is as if there is no ear set attached to the jack anymore. I thought my ear set was the one malfunctioning so I tried connecting my spare ear set but still yields the same problem. It is as if the jack became loose all of a sudden. I didn't recall dropping my phone or accidentally pulling the ear set wires while still attached to the jack that may perhaps damaged it. One thing I observed is that I can the make the music transmit to the ear set if I press the pin to the 3.5 mm jack really really hard but will immediately stop working again the moment I lift my finger thus going to loudspeaker again. Obviously, I cannot be doing the whole pressing thing everytime I want to listen to music cause its plain ridiculous just imagining that. The jack is literally rendered useless now. HELP !!! What should I do? Is this considered hardware problem already cause it seems like it? I just bought my unit December 1 last year so its considerably new. I already tried doing the SONY PC companion software repair just to be sure but still to no avail. Does anyone here experinced the same thing or is it just me.
HELP. As much as possible I dont want to leave my phone to service center as it takes them too long to repair it (2 weeks) and I have no spare phone to use.
THANKS in advance!!!
Send it to be repaired...

Same thing happened to my Z5P today... Read various forums and tried lots of "solved" issues but couldn't get it to work...
Will try and reset the phone after work today to see if it's a software issue, otherwise it will be sent to repaired...
Anyone else had the same problem?
Mine did that too, but i think it was only the headphones. Because it did work with other headphones and has been working fine
found a solution on sony forums..got mine working
Here what I did to get it working again:
Go to Settings > Apps > ALL > Smart Connect. and clear it's data.
Go to Play Store and install SoundAbout.
Open SoundAbout app and go to Media Audio and select your headset type in my case I selected [Wired Headset (with Mic)]
Plug-in your headset and the device should detect it now! wink
This is concerning to hear. Can anyone update to see if @wilger_18 's solution works?
this work around is annoying, You have to toggle ON OFF button if u want your phone to think if its going into loudspeaker or going into headseat more. Will wait for Marshmallow update if this will fix cause if its not then ill probably send it for repair.

Same issue here
Need to push the headphone very hard to make it be connected. I wonder if this is a hardware issue or just a software. Since I tried @wilger_18's workaround but it did not work on my end. I also reflashed the firmware with Flashtool and PCC but no luck...
Had this problem. For me it was hardware defect. Took it to my carrier shop. They confirmed the problem, took it to be serviced. One week later got my phone back. Replaced headphone jack and outer frame.
Works as should now. Hopefully it doesn't fail again. Disappointed that a $900+ device has a fault like this.

Mine no longer works either. This is the first time a Sony phone I owned has malfunctioned and I started with W810. In US, with Taiwan device. Emailed Sony Taiwan to see if I can get it repaired. Of course, Sony US can't work on a foreign phone. Comical, they all have the same headphone jack.
UPDATE: Sony Taiwan doesn't offer international shipping for repairs so I have two options, fly to Taiwan or live with it. Looks like it will be the latter. Back in the box to collect dust.
