Stable Defy+ sudden constant reboots explained - Defy General

I have a Defy+ ME525 China Retail with the 45.0.2310.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03 installed and build 4.5.1-134_DFP-231 which has been stable since last December when I loaded it via RSD Lite. Besides the issues I have where Google+ crashes at boot up, open, or just out of the blue and some other minor stability issues (I feel come from my phone coming from mainland China where the OS was hacked all to heck to block access to Google Play, Facebook, Twitter, MotoBlur, etc.)
Anyway, since this week my phone has been rebooting non-stop. I was about to re-image with DFHKT_U_4.5.2-109_DHT-25-4_SIGNED_USADEFYPRCB1B50AA00A.0R_JRDNGIBRRTHKTW_P024_A023_HWp3a_Service1FF in hopes of getting the minor issues to be fixed when on a reboot my Avast AV system alarm went off during a reboot stating my phone was stolen, put in the pin all good, next reboot the phone was fine for 2 min then rebooted again and stated there was no SIM. Changed batteries and still the same. It would reboot when sitting on the desk, placed in my pocket, or ramdomly when walking the dog. I thought it was APN on/off but I was able to turn it off and keep it off so ruled that out.
Here is what I found. I had left the phone in my car over the weekend and it was in the windshield cradel. The phone had overheated and shut down. It had never acted up before this. I checked the SIM, it was warped and had a bubble in it. I used an AA battery and a think piece of cardboard to get the SIM mostly flat again, put it in the phone and it still was buldging a bit away from the pins and would not lock in. I modified some packing material PVC with tape and placed over the SIM with double sided tape and so far so good. If your phone has been stable and just reboots when moved, stays on while on the table, check the battery and SIM before installing a new OS. Carefully inspect the SIM to make sure it is 100% flat. The heat from the car wraped the SIM and battery a bit from what I can see so even if the phone is really tough (I have dropped my twice from 1 meter up with only 2 small scratches) the cards and batteries aren't and can cause issues if wrapped, cracked, or deformed.
Thought I would pass along something I found as I didn't see it mentined anywhere in the reboot posts to check the SIM before loading this or that SBK.

Phone freezes up when idle

If I leave my phone on and come back to in about an hour it becomes unresponsive. The screen is won't come on, usb won't work and the power button doesn't work as well, but the lights still flash. All I can do is take the battery out and turn it on again.
At first i thought the keypad must have been getting disabled after a certain amount of time for some reason, but since the usb the connection alos dies when it's idle it must be something else.
I've been having this problem for awhile now. It first it started every once and awhile, but now it's getting to the point that I have to reset it every hour or so.
I just upgraded my ROM to Kavana 080408, but I've had this problem running the T-mobile WM6 ROM as well, therefore I'm guessing it's a hardware issue?
Any thoughts, questions, or help is greatly appriciated!
call tmobile and ask them to send you a new phone... its hardware issues...
Thank you. Err.. the only thing I haven't mentioned (for lack of mistaking the problem) is that just 3 days ago I dropped my phone outside and it rained the next morning. When I recovered the phone it was soaked.. I let it dry out and it worked again.
I think the incedent had to have been irrelevant, because I have been having this problem for about 8 months regaurdless, just not as severe.
Would T-mobile be able to know it got wet at some point and not exchange it because they'd assume the problem was due to water damage?
Well if you look under the battery to the right where the sim card goes, there is a litmus paper that turns purple/pink when wet and its white originally. I would just remove the paper if it is purple/pink and try to cut and glue a white piece of paper the same size. And then I would call them and tell them.
Glue and fish strips?
Thanks, but hmm.. how exact should this be? I was thinking about going to the fish store and buying some test strips and using those. Then i was thinking about thinning out some glue and using that to stick it. Does this sound good? I'll post how it goes.
Dash Arrived then Died
I just got my dash about two weeks ago. Before I could start finding my way around, it began acting strangely. It would not respond and sometimes suddenly cut off on it's on. Then it got to the point where it would not turn on right away. I would have to play with it (battery and SIM removal) and then it might turn on. I thought I was using the power button incorrectly.
Finally, the dash would not turn on at all. Since it was new and insured I requested a replacement. T-Mobile insisted that I test it with a alternate battery (I had a charger stand + battery on order but it had not arrived yet.) Since it would still not turn on via USB or power adapter (no charging lights either) I was certain it was not the battery. After arguing with a T-Mobile Rep and Supervisor I finally decided to lie (er um exaggerate) and tell them I had tested an alternate battery.
Before the new phone arrived the charger and spare battery arrived. I tried both batteries in the new phone with no problems.
You may want to try and get a new phone but the T-Mo rep definitely asked me the color of the paper strip inside the battery housing. My rep told me that it would change color if the LCD was damaged or cracked but I checked another phone (Samsung T409 and Motorola V188) and based on the locations of the strips I would assume it's a water damage test strip.
You may also want to see it you can remove a strip from an older phone.
Good luck!

Strange issues after water damage

Yesterday morning my girlfriend knocked over a cup of water off of my bedstand and after wiping up the mess we went back to sleep. I woke up and realized my phone was drenched as a result of this happening, as it was charging in a spot I usually don't put it. I fumble around with it and realize it's messed up pretty bad, though not black screen.
Fast forward to doing the rice treatment and using an un-harmed battery without the pink water damage indicator, all seems good. Phone turns on, runs full speed, plays sound, camera works, data works, etc. This is running task's AOKP.
I use it throughout the next day and then I notice my mobile connection drop completely. This isn't like 1 bar, it's like the triangle logo empty as in no service. Flipping between airplane mode doesn't seem to help like it normally does. Sporadically I'd get a bar with 3G or something.
Then, I flashed the new version of AOKP and upon reboot my phone's data is still not working and the network connection is always dead as well. But, there is also noticeable lag. Pressing the app drawer takes 3 seconds to load and I see the animation in very slow motion. Using a countdown app, it is literally noticeable that seconds are taking substantially longer than they should.
ODIN to complete stock and the lag is still there. Data is in and out. Also if I let the phone sleep, it sometimes either turns off or freezes, I need to take the battery out to boot it again. Basically, something is up - and it's making no sense. My phone is working in slow motion with no mobile data/network after drying out water damage, and flashing new ROM's or ODIN to stock didn't fix anything. I checked APN's, I checked kernel speeds (when it was still on AOKP, right now stock), I checked mobile data on and off, nothing is working. On the off chance I do get lucky and have data + network, I try to make a call and both of them vanish.
I don't think I'll get any help bringing this to ATT cause the indicator on the phone itself is pink, so does anybody here have any ideas on what the heck to do? Being that the issues persist whether I'm rooted or not, custom rom or stock, I believe it's a hardware issue - right?
Yep. Most likely. A trip to repair will most likely be required.
The most common error is trying the phone out after it gets wet.
Best to do is immediately take out the battery, and use the rice, desiccant, blow dryer, whatever method right then.
After a few days of sitting in the rice or silica gel packs (in a sealed bag) THEN try powering it up.
Those first seconds of powered up state with the moisture present are the most damaging.
The best thing to do when a phone gets wet is to immediately disassemble it and clean everything with a high grade isopropyl alcohol. That will get all the moisture out and remobe any corrosion on the boards. I would still take it apart if I were you and let it dry completely for about a day. It may bring it back to life. There may be some water hanging in the antenna wire plug or in the radio itself. Watch some youtube videos on the the disassembly and go slow.

i think i broke my lower speaker and now i'm a saaaad panda

the story start like this:
i unlocked my bootloader, installed cwm, and started flashing cm11
when the phone reboots, it stuck on bootloop like for 30 minutes, so what i tried to do is, hold the power button like i used to on any other android device, the damn thing wont shut off
googled it everywhere for the method to force shutdown, but damn google kept showing unrelated results
so i digged out my sim card frame, u know? the big-ass sim card frame before we remove our new sim card? slide it in on the side of the back cover, pop almost every clip, prying the back cover off hoping to remove the battery to shut it down. then those schtoooooopid industrial grade double sided tapes stuck hard i hav to use the sim card frame to cut it apart (yes dumb me has no hair dryer), finally got to do what i needed to do. reboot in recovery, flashed it to older version of cm11 and voila! its done
few day later, i notice my lower speaker has no sound coming from i (what took me so long). re-opened the back cover only to notice that wen i tried to cut those double sided tapes, my card knocked on the connector pins on the lower speaker and bend them a little, i pushed them back as close as possible to their original location, and sound came back, but now the sound on the lower speaker cracks when ever i play music at 80% max volume.....
few days ago i stumbled upon a thread with one of the replies saying "u can force restart by pressing volume up + power"........ WTF??? why did they changed the way to force shutdown the phone??? now my phone has a scratched back cover.... and the sound is cracked on many occasions on high volume..... :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Phone reboots getting small jerks/shocks

Whenever my phone receives any minor jerk, like when i drop it on my bed even softly, my phone reboots. Earlier it used to keep working even after accidentally falling onto the ground.
What could be the reson and how may i solve it?
The battery is loose. Take a business card or playing card and rip some of it off. Insert it at the bottom of battery, opposite the prongs. It will keep your battery tight

Question 6S Pro heating up, causing crashes

My 6S Pro has been kicking into reboot cycles a couple times a day and it looks like "Nubia Country Code" is usually the culprit. I have a case open with Nubia and they've said I'll need to send it in even though it's not hardware:
"Kindly let you know that there is a high probability that it is not a hardware problem, but that you cannot complete some software maintenance by yourself, and require professional tools."
So what "software" can be fixed with their "professional tools"? Perhaps just a clean boot.img? I've done more than a few full wipes and tried the last few roms, but eventually it starts rebooting again, more than a couple times when connecting to a new bluetooth device, but otherwise fairly random.
Got tired of waiting for Nubia so took a chance and disabled cn.nubia.countrycode and phone seems to work fine now. No idea what it was used for, but I don't notice any change other than the phone works now without going into rebooting fits a couple times a day.
I see a few other cn.nubia apps which I don't really trust now so I've asked Nubia support what they're used for and if they're safe to disable to see what they say.
Just an update that it turned out it wasn't that app. I think it was just the most sensitive as now it's rebooting again. I'm noticing that when it starts rebooting, it feels quite hot so I think I'm seeing what others were reporting in the thread about the release of the 3.18 rom. Something kicks in, starts draining the battery and heating up, but in my case, I think I do have bad hardware that starts rebooting as a result.
I've confirmed by running CPU stress testers and the phone will reboot as soon as it gets fairly hot. I'll be sending it in to Nubia, but I think there still is the issue of some broken process(es) that start running wild and heat up the phone every once in a while. Restarts don't stop whatever is draining the battery so that's why I'd get multiple reboots, likely until the process finally finished and the phone could cool down.
I've tried every ROM including 4.20 but I still see that effect sometimes once in the day, but other times it'll kick in multiple times. I suspect it may be widespread with the 6S Pro, but I only notice it more since the heat causes my phone to reboot.
Anyone else still noticing CPU use spiking randomly?
Yes am having the same exact problem but with redmagic 6 pro and says Nubia country code

I did finally resolve the issue which I described in my other post, Heatsink/cooling system failure.
It is very likely a heat buildup issue. It took me a while to focus on heat since the issues didn't always correspond to the temp sensor readings. However, adding that copper shim onto the main chip with Arctic thermal paste fixed it and it's been running solid since.
The spot where I put the shim can be seen at 3:10 of this teardown video,
As you see in the video, the chip is just covered by a big blob of pink paste which is held in there with copper foil. I scooped out all that paste, cleaned with alcohol, and put in a 1.5mm copper shim with silver thermal paste on both sides.
The other side of the mainboard had a similar blob covered with foil which I also cleaned and replaced, but there I just used a generic, non-conductive, adhesive thermal pad since there were a number of traces exposed there. I did that side first, but it made only minimal difference. Once I put in the copper shim on the other side, I haven't had one reboot.
I should have made a video, but I honestly thought the phone was finished and I was more just experimenting for fun.
In case you're thinking of trying the same thing, here is the shim kit I purchaed https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07XW9FBDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The 15mm by 15mm by 1.5 mm thick one only needed a couple notches filed away to make it fit perfectly within the metal housing around the chip. That housing keeps the shim in place so once the mainboard is screwed back down, the shim can't move anywhere.
