Strange issues after water damage - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Yesterday morning my girlfriend knocked over a cup of water off of my bedstand and after wiping up the mess we went back to sleep. I woke up and realized my phone was drenched as a result of this happening, as it was charging in a spot I usually don't put it. I fumble around with it and realize it's messed up pretty bad, though not black screen.
Fast forward to doing the rice treatment and using an un-harmed battery without the pink water damage indicator, all seems good. Phone turns on, runs full speed, plays sound, camera works, data works, etc. This is running task's AOKP.
I use it throughout the next day and then I notice my mobile connection drop completely. This isn't like 1 bar, it's like the triangle logo empty as in no service. Flipping between airplane mode doesn't seem to help like it normally does. Sporadically I'd get a bar with 3G or something.
Then, I flashed the new version of AOKP and upon reboot my phone's data is still not working and the network connection is always dead as well. But, there is also noticeable lag. Pressing the app drawer takes 3 seconds to load and I see the animation in very slow motion. Using a countdown app, it is literally noticeable that seconds are taking substantially longer than they should.
ODIN to complete stock and the lag is still there. Data is in and out. Also if I let the phone sleep, it sometimes either turns off or freezes, I need to take the battery out to boot it again. Basically, something is up - and it's making no sense. My phone is working in slow motion with no mobile data/network after drying out water damage, and flashing new ROM's or ODIN to stock didn't fix anything. I checked APN's, I checked kernel speeds (when it was still on AOKP, right now stock), I checked mobile data on and off, nothing is working. On the off chance I do get lucky and have data + network, I try to make a call and both of them vanish.
I don't think I'll get any help bringing this to ATT cause the indicator on the phone itself is pink, so does anybody here have any ideas on what the heck to do? Being that the issues persist whether I'm rooted or not, custom rom or stock, I believe it's a hardware issue - right?

Yep. Most likely. A trip to repair will most likely be required.
The most common error is trying the phone out after it gets wet.
Best to do is immediately take out the battery, and use the rice, desiccant, blow dryer, whatever method right then.
After a few days of sitting in the rice or silica gel packs (in a sealed bag) THEN try powering it up.
Those first seconds of powered up state with the moisture present are the most damaging.

The best thing to do when a phone gets wet is to immediately disassemble it and clean everything with a high grade isopropyl alcohol. That will get all the moisture out and remobe any corrosion on the boards. I would still take it apart if I were you and let it dry completely for about a day. It may bring it back to life. There may be some water hanging in the antenna wire plug or in the radio itself. Watch some youtube videos on the the disassembly and go slow.

[Q] Epic takes 12+ seconds to wake, possible water damage?

I may have had a little incident with my Epic where I jumped into a river with it in my pocket..
Now it takes about 10+ seconds to wake.
It actually barely got wet (I didn't completely submerge the phone, and realized what I had done in less than half a second), there was definitely moisture in between the keyboard and screen though. I immediately pulled out the battery and the Florida sun had it completely dry in 30 minutes.
Since then it takes forever to wake. there are no other issues whatsoever that are noticeable, and if the phone is actively doing anything in the background with the screen off (playing music, streaming music, installing stuff, or plugged in) it wakes instantly.
Also if the screen is off and its not doing anything (when usually it would take 10 seconds to wake) and I plug it in before waking it, it will crash and reboot 80% of the time.
annnd if I slide open the phone while its being slow, the keyboard back light will be turned on, though I still wait 10 seconds for the wake.
Running SyndicateRom (latest version), and I have re-installed it freshly, no help.
I have not reset the phone completely where I would have to redo clockwork mod yet. I would have to backup heavily to do that and I have been putting it off thinking it wouldn't help anyway
Any insight guys?
Also, I have SetCPU, and I have made sure that the minimum clock speeds weren't too low, and have jacked them up to 400+mhz even once, and it still would not wake for 10 seconds.
weird thing is that even at that setting, I would still see the speed dip to 100mhz. I know my way around the overclocking software, and I do know it was set properly. Does this happen to others?
Water damaged...
If you remove the battery and look on the opposite side of contact leads, there will be a white sticker, if it's red, then that indicates water damage. Taking it in for repair/replacement at the sprint store will result in charges to you due to it being your fault. YMMV tho
If not, then take it in for replacement/repairs, if you have TEP or under the 1yr manufactures warranty. YMMV also on charges.
Also might want to backup then return to a stock ROM to verify that the issue is hardware related or not.

Condensation Hard Freeze, Reboot on Home Screen.

Hello
I just purchased a GSM Galaxy Nexus From Google last monday. Got it on wednesday the first thing i did was put a screen Protector on it before booting the phone up.(ArmorSuit MilitaryShield) The phone work great on Thursday no issues what so ever. Then i Friday i went to the gym. Kept the thing in my pocket and wiped my hands before touching anything on the phone. (Waiting for otterbox to arrive)
I as soon as i get out i notice Condensation in the front camera. I soon as i received a text my phone hung up and reboot itself. After loading again to the home screen it hung up again as soon as text pop up again. I after 8 tries i final was frustrated. Took the SIM card out and swipe to the right with my finger to try to see if i could unlock it to the home screen.
I was finally able to get into the phone and turn on airplane mode before it hung up again. After i did that i Sut down phone and put the SIM card back in. Repeated the the same steps. As i turn airplane mode off the phone hung up again! (Seems everyone in the mother had to text me at that moment) I was able to make two phone call's before it lock up, but i couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear me. Called 611 then i was able to hear at&t computer but sound like the speaker was dieing. Then the phone lock up and reboot itself.
So i go into the boot loader. The phone was functioning perfected in the boot loader. Play with it for about 10mins. No hangs up. I found that weird. So i reboot the phone was able to get myself into the Factory reset. After that i did a hard factory reset.
So i call Google and they sent me over to Samsung. Samsung wants to do a replacement. I don't mind doing that i just don't like the fact they need a CC number just in case they have to Charge if the phone was abuseded which it wasn't. Baby the hell out of it. They asking me if the phone came into any touch with liquid. The the only thing i could think of was the solution the screen Protector Company sent. I didn't spray the solution directly on the phone but the direction told me to spray couple of sprays on the side of the SP that was going on the screen. (2 Sprays).
The Samsung rep told me the systoms don't sound like water damage. So after getting off the phone (About 1 hr) i notice the condensation was disappearing from the lens. So i took a quick blow dryer to it for about 30 secs. Turn the phone back on and everything been rock solid (Expect for wifi cutting in and out for some reason) for about 2 days.
So tomorrow Samsung fiance department will be calling me for my CC info. My question do you think i should send it in ? Do you think they will find water damage? Was this water damage ? Does the GSM galaxy nexus have Water Sticker ? I'm not able to find one. (Every where i googled no one had a direct answer)
I'm not trying to rip Samsung off i just don't want this to happen down the road again. If it was water damage ill just deal with it i guess.
I wonder if i don't open the new phone tey send me and just use my old 3gs in till i hear back from them... will i be able to send the Replacement phone back if it was water damage ? Just pay the shipping costs? First time dealing with something like this
What do you think i should do ?
Thank you for any input.
Sorry for the wall of text.
Just Notice i posted this in the wrong section My bad ill ask for mod to move it.
Look at the water contact indicator under the battery and see if it is red. A wet apply screen protector should not have caused this, but be careful to not let water get in the speaker and crevices when applying. In the future if your phone does come in contact with water or condensation remove the battery and sim Immediately and place in dry rice for 24 hours, do not try to power it on. Many others are reporting wifi instability, check the threads for solutions.

Do you think Samsung will find anything ? Sorry for all the questions. The lens on the front camera was white. Is there stickers inside the phone where the CPU is
I heard there was like 3 water indicators in the phone.
That I couldn't tell you, I've never taken the phone apart so I would only be guessing. You might could find out by looking for a "tear down" of the phone, there should be several online if you do a Google search. Is the phone continuing to function well for you? Besides the wifi?
Yeah its been running great. Just got off the phone with Samsung. I think i just keep this phone. I don't want to pay for repair cost's. If the phone dies in month then i guess it was water damage. I hope there's no corrosion on PCB. I would love to take it apart but i don't want to void the warranty to check. Is there warranty Sticker in there ?
The wifi thing might be my fault. My laptop does that sometimes too. I'm just freaking out. I love the phone. I don't want it too die. Just ran a CPU stability test for about 15mins. No errors the battery was at 42c temp. Went ahead and sut the phone down. Going to wait 15 mins then turn it back on.

epic 4g touch Water Damaged

well guys, i kinda left my phone sitting nexto my glass of water when i was sleeping, woke up..and the phone was off, and the battery had a RED TAB on it. SO i put it in a bag of rice for 2 days, turned it on with a new battery and it worked COMPLETELY FINE, i used it all day, that night i turned it off and when i tried to turn it on the next morning something went wrong, The galaxy S2 logo shows up, closes then pops up again, then it boots up to the main screen where my lock screen is, the touch screen doesn't work at all anymore, So i boot it up into recovery mode, and i go to try a factory reset, and the power button doesn't let me select anything.but when i hit the little menu button on the bottom left, it takes the recovery to a loading screen, so the touch screen must be working right???... SOO i thought that id try a 1 click ROM, so i tried to connect it to my computer, and the computer doesn't read it AT ALL....i put it into ODIN mode, tried connecting it again, nothing, SOOO i really dont know what to do here, it was working perfectly fine... and the WERID THING is, when it turns on to the lock screen, i can receive texts, emails, phone calls, and the phone is updating games and stuf i have installed...i just cant unlock the screen, so if ANYONE could help me here it would be greatly appreciated, Thank you
Sounds like your phone had residual moisture trapped inside and that seeped into circuits or connections and caused a short that's borking your digitizer.
Whenever you have a water mishap like that you need to disassemble your phone and pack all the pieces in rice or suspend them in front of an air conditioner while letting the cold dry air blow over and around the parts overnight.
The a/c part I know first hand because my wife toilet bombed her epic last summer, and that's what I did, reassembled the next morning and its still working fine.
Of coarse when the phone hit the water it was pulled instantly and I pulled the battery and instantly disassembled the phone.
In your case I don't know if disassembling it now will help.
You may need parts to fix it.
Start Googling. There is NO software that's going to fix your phone.
Pp.:beer::thumbup:
From me to you on an Epic Touch running the best rom ever.
well im taking it to a cell phone repair shop in town tommorow, see if they can possibly fix it, well have to see...
Mine fell in a pot hole left it in rice for 3 days still didn't work was very laggy had to get a replacement phone
Send from a mircowave
When I got my first one I went overboard off the boat I was working on. Five minutes in the water, it was toast. That was salt water though...

Liquipel, email them and ask them to officially support the Sprint GS2 as well as the AT&T & Tmobile that they already support for waterproofing, I already did and they said they'd do it, but it's not official yet cuz not enough people have been asking I think for the ET4G version.

[SOLVED] Black Screen Issue

Hi. I am not sure this is the BSOD problem that others have had.
I bought a second hand i747. It came with 4.3. It will work fine for a few minutes when first turned on, then the screen will go dark. The menu and back buttons stay lit, and the touchscreen still works, the LCD just cuts off.
If I hit the power button, it sleeps the phone. When I hit again, the screen will come on, but only for about 5 seconds, then it's black again. Everything works, just black screen.
Is it possible for it to overheat or something? It doesn't feel hot at all, but if I turn it off and leave it for awhile, it will again work for about 2-3 minutes, then only about 5 seconds at a time again.
I swapped batteries, and it's the same. The battery had pink on it. I opened it up, and none of the other stickers showed water exposure, and the board itself was clean.
It has stock 4.3, and is not rooted.
I did go to phone settings and turned off the "darken screen during calls" checkbox.
I am wondering if the proximity sensor heats up and shuts the screen off. Grasping at straws I suppose.
Any idea of how to fix this?
Thanks
Perhaps a bad capacitor in the digitizer/lcd assembly? My TV had an issue with a bad capacitor that would cause the screen to blank out after a few minutes???

I'll try swapping boards in it later, and maybe at least narrow down if it's the board or the screen assembly. I have an extra proximity sensor I could swap, but it doesn't seem like it's that to me.
thanks, will post more after the board swap
Update: I switched boards (different carriers), and I could not replicate the problem in either phone. I had hoped that would show that either the board or the LCD assembly was bad, but I didn't learn anything useful either way.
I put the boards back in their respective bodies. It still happens now, but not as often. It also appears to be totally random. I did switch batteries in the problem phone, and it doesn't seem as bad. I will try another battery switch and see if that helps it more.
When the screen goes dark, the menu and back buttons are lit. When it went out last night, I could see that there was still some faint background light that I can't see in the day. I pulled up Youtube and did a video, and when the screen went dark, I could still see movement, but couldn't make anything out. So, the phone is still going in the background.
If I push the power button, it sleeps, then push it again, and it wakes up just fine. Sometimes I have to do that 4 or 5 times for the screen to stay on. Sometimes it goes dark after 10 minutes of use, sometimes a half hour, sometimes just a few.
Any help is appreciated.
Well, right before throwing the phone into the wall, I noticed a partially removed liquid exposure indicator. I pulled the phone apart to check the motherboard.
In the process of taking it apart, I forgot to take out the SD card. In so doing, it pulled the sim/sd card module off the motherboard. Low and behold, there was a very light corrosive glaze in a few spots under the module.
So, I got out the 99% IPA, and a toothbrush, and cleaned the whole entire board. Since then, it seems to be working fine.
I don't know exactly what part getting cleaned fixed it, because I just cleaned the whole board.
Anyways, maybe that'll help someone with inexplicable issues downstream.
Thanks for following up with how you fixed the problem. In retrospect, water damage makes sense.
I dropped a Captivate into an ice chest full of melted water last year. I immediately pulled it out and the phone was mostly okay for a while but then the microphone didn't seem to work so well and occasionally the right third of the screen wouldn't respond to touch until I cycled the screen on and off. The water damage sticker and phone interior showed no signs of water.
I will probably sell the old captivate but with full diclosure about the history. Would have been nice if the seller had done the same for you.

Thanks, I should have thought of it sooner, but it didn't seem to have any signs of water damage otherwise.
I ordered the 99% IPA online, because I couldn't find any locally. It works wonders with previously wet boards. You might be able to bring it back.

[Q] water spilled on table, texting freezes

My phone is a T-Mobile galaxy s2 sgh-t989
I had my phone on my table, and my air conditioner decided to leak water out of the front, instead of the back. When I woke up, I noticed it, so I took my battery out of the phone. It wasn't completely soaked, but there was a decent amount of water inside the case and sub-frame (think that's what its called). Didn't have rice, since we recently cooked the last of it, so I wrapped my phone parts in some paper towels, and then put in vermiculite to draw our moisture. Once the phone was put back together, it appeared to work fine, but when I would click text messages, it would free up, and most often turn the phone off. Before this problem, my phones WiFi wouldn't turn on (common problem, from what I read). Last night, I did a factory reset, and the WiFi started working. The texting also worked, until the help popup came up (from when you first start using your phones features). When that popped up, it lagged out, and turned off. I did another factory reset, and now the WiFi still works, and the texting works fine, but the phone calling is messed up. I can make a call, and answer a call, but the screen freezes up. After I hang up, it says something along the lines of "android.phone isn't responding" and asks if I want to close it or wait. I was wondering if any of you have any simple solutions. My father works on phones (not for a living), and says that maybe there is still some moisture in it. I, however, think that some of the files somehow got corrupted. Thanks for your time.
I would try a clean install of 4.1.2 with Odin. If it still acts up, it's likely the water damage. And there's not much you can do about that. The phone isn't worth the repair bill anymore, in my opinion. Also... With water, you often fix one hardware component, only to find something else not working.
Good luck!
